I agree! As others stated: the genderless Cenobites make perfect sense as per the original text, and the transcendence of pain and pleasure. I also am a sucker for the overwhelming addiction parallels put on display here, albeit a bit on the nose. The first Evil Dead remake, which I also dug, had that parallel done well too
I agree with everything in your review . Really liked the callback to the original soundtrack with the bell sound and the new mechanical effects for the box were fantastic . I liked the movie and was impressed , like you , that they managed to make the best Hellraiser movie since III . Watched it once but haven't felt the need to see it again though . Hope you're feeling better soon .
@@horrorhands879 yeah I'm just glad it's somewhat decent considering the state of modern film! I'm kinda okay but it's the best you can hope for!!! Thank you x
Great review Bryn, I’m one of the weirdos that loves this franchise lol. I saw the OG film when it came out, it was popular with all my friends at the time. This newer film was kinda fun, I enjoyed it. Glad you are feeling better, I’m recovering from a similar bug. Cheers my friend✌️

Glad you are feeling better Bryn. I hate that the physical media edition is just a DVD. I know why it is but it's not right. I'd like to check this one out at some point. Thanks for sharing. Trev
I agree. I thought it was half decent but yeah, the female pin head wasn't awful it just didn't have that same presence. If you can get past that and the tokens like your friend mentioned, it's a solid enough flick. Hope you feel better, man. With chest stuff, that cough and rasp can stick around for weeks even when everything else feels better but of course I hope that doesn't happen. Have a great weekend!
I really like this too. And the casting of a transgender person (who was born a man) is actually closer to the original novella. In the original novella that the films are all based on (The Hellbound Heart), the gender of Pinhead is fairly ambiguous and the character is even described an androgynous being with a feminine voice. So this was actually more faithful than Doug Bradley's portrayal from that perspective. But I do personally prefer Doug Bradley's portrayal and don't think anyone else will ever own the role like he did
@@horrorhands879 Yes, Jamie Clayton is a trans woman and in the novella the cenobites are often androgynous *because* of how heavily mutilated they appear. Blurring the lines of sex/gender by extreme body modification by way of preternatural means.
Yes I agree, I thought this was a great film, thought the cenobites looked great, although nobody can compete with Doug’s pinhead, the female version was also great.l love the original 3 (in that order) but this is definitely no 4 for me in my rating.keep up the great work. Thanks steve 👏😁👍
Love all the Hellraiser films, grew up with them, the first 3 I reckon are the best, but I still like the rest. Classic horror films, like to have them in my collection. Hope you start to feel better soon Brynn. Have a good 1.
I’m not PC at all but didn’t care about the gender swapping Pinhead. As long as it’s well done, I’m good with it. This was one of the more enjoyable additions to Hellraiser (just like Prey was to Predator).
Interesting to hear your take on this Bryn as I'm yet to watch it for myself but heard very mixed reviews. Some friends of mine have highly recommend it to me so I'm guessing there's something about it they seem to think I'll like.
Excellent video Bryn. Really enjoyed it mate. Haven’t seen this film yet. Only seen the original 3. My favourite is definitely the first one, and didn’t mind the second one either, but really didn’t like the 3rd one, but definitely going to check out the remake at some point.👍
Hey mate, sadly this remake wasn't for me, found myself check how much longer it had to go on many occasions, the 'token' issues u mentioned really dampened everything down for me too. Glad u found some enjoyment in it though mate 😎👍🏻 where can we get those sweet horror hands hoodies from too?! 🤔
Excellent review, you shared many similar thoughts to what I had about the film, especially Chatterer biting the arm. 😄 Since you asked for my thoughts on the movie, below are those thoughts which I wrote 7th May last year: “Not bad. I set my expectations to absolute zero for this film and was pleasantly surprised that it wasn’t entirely unwatchable. It’s not particularly good or anything but wasn’t unwatchably bad either. Just a time filler. The cenobites look pretty good, some of the special makeup effects are decent but overall, the lighting is too dark and I get fed up of being spoon fed these irritating American characters. Why do modern horror movies keep giving us these awful central female characters, who’ve always had to overcome some past trauma or addiction? It’s like America’s young twenty somethings is 1 in 3 populated by all these sassy, strong women who’re all bravely getting over a series of poor life choices and we’re supposed to identify with these skanks and feel sympathy for their petulant, bell-endish behaviour. It was the same with Evil Dead Rise I went to watch recently and scores of other films before. Jesus horror heroines used to be so much more fun. Anyway, pinhead is now a woman, well all the cenobites were I think, and there’s a ‘special secret’ book like the Necronomicon in The Evil Dead franchise, that helpfully explains all the Hellraiser lore and box configurations. While the cenobites just walk around spouting silly lines in gruff male voices in an attempt to appear scary. It’s good we got Chatterer as a cenobite in this, I like Chatterer. Here he/she/it bites into someone’s arm with its teeth, which was quite cool.” For me Hellraiser 2 is still the best film of the franchise, closely followed by the first Hellraiser.
Thanks for giving your thoughts on this, Cliff. Great write up there! 👍 I’d say the first two films are definitely the best, but I have a real love for the third one too and it’s much more Americanised approach.
As the weather has started to warm up here in the uk it got me thinking about a video idea for you, your top summer camp slashers. Let me know what you think, I’ll be watching the burning tonight for sure.
I can't speak for the film, but this video certainly didn't feel like a HorrorHands video. There wasn't a single llama anywhere in it. And I only counted 5 Twilight easter eggs. Only 5. Shameful.
This passed me by 😮. Didn’t even know they had remade it. I liked the original first film. If I remember correctly, the second one was watchable. After that I was out. Sometimes I wish these film companies would lay off the sequels. Films like The Burning or The Prowler are special because they’re one and done, and no one has the opportunity to mess with the lore or whatever with more films. Jaws, as you know, is a remarkable film. How much more remarkable would it have been if it was the only one ? The sequels didn’t damage the original but they’re not fit to share the same space with Spielbergs masterpiece. Hope you’re feeling better.
Thanks for the comment. I totally agree! Have always loved the fact that The Burning and The Prowler are standalone films and I hope that never changes. Whilst I do enjoy the Jaws sequels, they were completely unnecessary lol.
I feel bad saying this but Hellraiser and all the sequals are movies I've never wanted to watch. Thanks for watching the video anyway despite not wanting to see the movies. And thanks for letting me know about my voice. To answer your question, I recently watched Turkey Shoot which is a really good Battle Royalè style movie from the early 80s. Razorback is also a popular one about a killer boar in the outback. And there’s Undead, a fun ozzy zombie movie. Hope that helps!
