    It’s interesting that younger people don’t realize we used telephones to connect in the beginning of the internet. That’s why they need the phones 😊

    • @steved1135
      @steved1135 Месяц назад +13

      Interesting indeed. But that's not quite accurate as to why they need the hardline phones. What's needed is an access point that's native to the Matrix system itself. Thus, the phones. Later on, as system technology 'within' the Matrix advances, a local WiFi access point for example would be required...

      Yeah, in Eastern Europe, the internet only became a thing after 2005, and it was just like it is now. So we don't know how it was in the 90s. Even to think that there was internet in the 90s is so unusual

    I love that you got the ‘Accept cookie?’ Reference. It took me years of seeing this before it finally hit me, that she really did pass him a bit of software that would radically alter the course of his life.

    • @Bunny99s
      @Bunny99s Месяц назад

      It's questionable if they actually intended this reference. HTTP cookies were just invented 5 years before the movie came out. So even less time when you think about the concept of the movie and the production. Furthermore in 1994 only a precursor to the cookies we know nowadays was implemented. The Cookies we have today were first standardizied in 1997 with the RFC 2109. Back then the Web itself was quite new. "Accepting cookies" wasn't a thing either and at that time there were no real security concerns about cookies. The EU first regulated that websites that use cookies must inform about that in their privacy statement in 2002. It's only since 2018 that websites have to actively ask for consent.
      This development was generally a huge mistake from the regulation perspective. The burdon of accepting / declining cookies should have been put on the browser's shoulders and not the website's. In the end it's the browser that actually saves the cookie locally. So it would make way more sense to have the browser asking for the consent. That way the browser could provide a general rule to not accept any unless you actively allow it. This would have been SOOOOO much better. Now literally every website is "infected" with those pesky cookie banners just because some politicians haven't really thought this through or didn't ask some experts about it. The sad thing is, even if they would change it now, it would take ages for websites to get rid of their cookie banners. Companies have spent millions to implement those stupid banners... One of the biggest political fails with long term effects on the digital world.

    "There are no bullets". Thank you for understanding what happened at the end. So many reactors roll their eyes thinking that Trinity's kiss somehow brings him back to life like some disney princess movie. When in reality, that wasnt it. The Oracle even told Neo that he or Morpheus will die, and that Neo is "waiting for something. Maybe the next life". She prophesied him dying.

    • @michael5045
      @michael5045 Месяц назад +1

      Some people think it's a leap of logic to accept that Neo came back to life after the kiss. When really, it's more of a leap of logic to accept the premise that you die in reality when plugged into the matrix, simply because "your mind makes it real". Which is a fine premise don't get me wrong, that's one of the points of the movie is how encompassing and hard it is to not accept the simulation presented before you. I'm just saying that anyone annoyed or bothered by Neo's "resurrection" should be even more so annoyed by all those people who died in the matrix beforehand, when there physical bodies should have been just fine on there hovercrafts or w/e outside the matrix. Neo simply was able to resist or deny the reality the matrix was pumping into his brain, more so than anyone beforehand had been able to. Like you said, he's chilling on a chair in a Hovercraft just fine.

    The Wachowski brothers unintentionally changed society so much with this movie, once a free thinker watches it for the first time it’s an inescapable rabbit hole that changes their perspective forever. Once you’re out you’re out.
    The movie is a red pill in and of itself, we know it’s just a movie but it’s so relatable to real life in so many ways that you look at everything around you more skeptically, with eyes wide open.

    • @tannhauser5399

      And all of it has been discussed before in various movies and books. Just they have made it more... popular thatn it used to be. There were some stories and movies before it, so it wasn't exactly a new concept as such (especially if you were familiar with science fiction books):
      - classic "World on a Wire" from 1973 (easier to find under "Welt am Draht" german title).
      - or a classic book Simulacron-3 by Daniel F. Galouye, from 1964
      - or Neuromancer by William Gibson from 1984
      and of course some during/after that time such as "13th Floor" or Dark City (even thought Dark City was filmed before Matrix).
      Or even now, the Simulation Theory is discussed in academia at some levels (particulary in quantum physics, but also regarding people involved in Artificial Inteligence research, or even top level IT specialists).

    23:45 Trinity telling Neo "It can't be true." And he asks her "Why?" But she doesn't answer.. (Because the Oracle had already told her she was destined to fall in love with the one, which she keeps to herself. )

    One misconception young people seem to have is that plots with AI or even virtual worlds were new or uncommon in the early 2000s.
    In fact they were incredibly common, in movies, tv shows, and books.
    In particular in books they were common going back to at least 50s.
    None of the plot ideas in the Matrix were really new, it was just really great writing, plot, and style.
    And it's true the advertising basically spoiled nothing. So although the idea of a virtual world wasn't new at all - you didn't know it was going to be that kind of movie until they unhooked him. So it was a surprise just the same.

    This movie has a notorious gun mistake in it, during the "dodge this" part. Trinity shoots him in the side of the head, but when the body falls the bullet hole is right between the eyes. A spot he never got shot. It's up there with Dirty Harry and End Of Watch, where they're great movies but goofed up as well. Each of them have a scene that is notorious in the gun community for a mistake, but also held in very high regard nonetheless. It's an interesting paradox they fit into.

    "You hear that Mr. Anderson?... That is the sound of inevitability... It is the sound of your death... Goodbye, Mr. Anderson..."
    "My name... is Neo."
    Fun, deep film. This movie is about free will and breaking free of the machine. Unfortunately, the second and third movies (while watchable) are philosophically inconsistent with this movie. The fourth movie is absolute garbage and completely unwatchable. I can't stop you from watching them, just be prepared to be disappointed in them.
    Fun Fact: Theatrical movie debut of Tamara Brown.
    Mythology Fact: In Greek mythology, Morpheus (Laurence Fishburne) is the god of dreams.
    The One Fact: To prepare for the scene where Neo wakes up in a pod, Keanu Reeves lost fifteen pounds and shaved his whole body to give Neo an emaciated look.
    Set Malfunction Fact: After the lobby shoot-out, the camera pans back, showing the aftermath of the gunfight. A moment passes, and a large chunk of one of the pillars falls off. This was not planned, but was left in for a comedic effect.
    Not A Snowflake Fact: Carrie-Anne Moss twisted her ankle while shooting one of her scenes, but decided not to tell anyone until after filming, so they wouldn't re-cast her. Carrie-Anne Moss performed the shots featuring Trinity at the beginning of the film, and all the wire stunts throughout, herself.
    Sunglasses Enthusiast Fact: The iconic sunglasses worn by the Matrix characters are from the "Blinde" label, which prides itself on producing handmade glasses. The company's founder, Richard Walker, had to tender against large companies, such as Ray-Ban and Arnette, to win the film's sunglasses contract, and set himself apart by scratch-designing pairs of glasses based purely on the characters' unusual names. When his tender was successful, Walker was flown into Sydney where he spent the duration of the Matrix shoot custom-designing sunglasses for the cast in the back of an Oxford Street optometrist.

    Of course, we thought about and discussed the effects and dangers of AI. We`ve been aware that governments and the Deep States used it to their advantage and have had plans to use it to control us.
    Mega Computers had already been a thing since the 70s. And that`s why "The Matrix" resonated with many of us.
    For those of us who have watched The Discovery Channel (during and up to the time it used to provide us with relevant and intelligent content) AI and its development was an important issue.
    We`ve also discussed the probability of living in the Matrix even before the movie came out.
    But just like today, the majority thought very little about AI and its effects on society, and they couldn`t care less. Many didn`t even understand the movie and described it as "fairytalish" rubbish.
    Of course, you`re right in saying that times have changed and that nowadays, we are (evidently) much closer, more exposed to and involved in AI in our everyday lives than we were in the 1990s.

    The original idea was that human minds would be harnessed as extra RAM (processing power) for the computers, helping them think their thoughts for them, which would result in sensory input flowing through human brains. To keep the humans from trying to get out of the system, the computers made sure that the sensory data looked only like “real life”-what human brains are used to processing anyway. This kept the humans calm and compliant and let the computers get on with their stuff without any human interference.
    Unfortunately, the studios couldn’t understand this, and certainly didn’t think the moviegoing public would either. So they went with “batteries.” Which leaves the question, why have the dream world at all? Why not just leave them all brain dead in lifelong comas? Hi! I assume you've heard that the Matrix sequels have been getting progressively weaker. That's why I recommend that you DO NOT watch the 2nd and 3rd movies. Instead, check out the combined '2+3 Ultimate' version, which won't disappoint. All the childish, stupid, and boring parts have been cut from the 2nd and 3rd movies, resulting in a fast-paced, three-hour action film that's a worthy continuation of the first Matrix. As an extra change, we also get two minutes from Matrix 4 at the end, showing an older Neo and Trinity.
    It's worth noting that Matrix 2 and 3 were originally filmed together, with the story split into two parts and released in theaters six months apart. So, the Matrix was never really a trilogy. In my opinion, with the ULTIMATE version, we now have a proper continuation, and hopefully someone will eventually create a decent third part (Matrix 4 is unbearably bad)... Let’s just forget about it.

      And the interesting part is that you can see so much in the movie now, looking back, that points to it. A semi-androgynous character called....Switch? A world where you can alter your 'self' based on your mind, not your physical body?
      I know you were not-so-subtly trying to express your opinion of their actions on a personal level, but I'm more interested in the film. It's interesting how many people love the film's themes, but don't like it when certain aspects of those themes play out in real life.

    There are 4 Matrix films, there has been talk of a fifth, but will it come to anything? And as one user already wrote... Cloud Atlas is an almost epochal film and you should have seen it and V for Vendetta. Why you can't find any reaction videos for Cloud Atlas (2012) is a mystery to me. There are still many good films where there are hardly any or no reaction videos.

    • @SolistFrankHerrmann
      @SolistFrankHerrmann Месяц назад

      @@seanstinchfield-mp2xm It was by far the worst part, I was also disappointed, just average. If you hadn't seen the first three, you would say, you can take a look, but nothing special, one of the Wachowskis probably didn't feel like it yet to shoot a fourth one, but there are probably people behind it who put a little pressure on it and that's perhaps why it was implemented so carelessly. However, if you have watched the first three, you would still want to know what happens next, but there are also messages in them that need to be interpreted.
      Since the 4th was so bad, the person responsible for the fight scenes in the first three parts, a luminary, was also scared away, the age of the actors is noticeable..., Morpheus was replaced, etc. That's why I have doubts as to whether there will be a fifth will give, but ultimately I have no idea, but one thing is clear, then we really have to step on the gas again and at least step it up a notch. As good as the first or the first trilogy... or something completely new in terms of technology and content, but that would definitely not happen. This level is no longer reached.
