Ever since I watched this in 3rd grade (millennials were bred different) Trinity was always the absolute best example of a "strong female lead" just like Ripley or Sarah Connor.
I highly HIGHLY recommend watching the rest of the trilogy. Matrix Revolutions (aka Matrix 3) is one of my favorite movies of all time. It’s so freaking good
Lots of people like to write off Trinity's kiss at the end as a "true love's kiss" trope, but I always like to look at it simply as a strong reminder to Neo in the Matrix that he isn't actually dead, he still exists in the outside world and that if he chooses to, he can just get back up. It's what finally breaks the last bit of doubt and reservation he had and awakens him to seeing the Matrix for what it really is, a computer program that can be manipulated.
25 years ago. Super-monumental. The Wachowskis' 3rd film following Assassins (1995) & Bound (1996). Blending together all the things that nobody would think could be done in a movie, all at the same time. Obviously it's a established universe before we know it's origins. But the ideas of reality, science and philosophy metaphorically define what it means to live in it. It's made in a way that's not too complicated to understand it, yet it does trigger some kind of need to study. Among Keanu Reeves' most iconic films out of the 1990s. Veteran actor Laurence Fishburne (no longer Larry) as Morpheus is like the best mentor. Carrie-Anne Moss was a model turned actress and mostly known for tv, as Trinity she totally shined as the next new action heroine. Hugo Weaving as Agent Smith is one of the best villains ever. Everything that went into this movie is unprecedented. One-liners, constant jewels of knowledge, action sequences, wardrobe, special effects and all are part of the cultural vocab (Free Your Mind, Dodge This, What Is The Matrix?, Whoa!, etc). For 1999, it won 4 Oscars out of many awards, had the highest opening weekend, the highest grossing Rated-R film and the first DVD to sell more than a million copies. If your going further down the rabbit hole, watch The AniMATRIX (anime short films) first and then The 2003 sequels.
Awesome video Angelina! It's always refreshing to see someone watch a classic that was from back when I was a kid! It was awesome to see you enjoy it so much!
"The Biblical references! I'm rollin' with them!" Ahhhh, Angelina.... The entire movie is a Biblical reference. This is a Messiah story. The guy who comes in from the outside to save the people from The System. The Woman in the Red Dress scene is the message meant for the Messiah: You're going in to save these people from The System, but they are so dependent on The System that they will kill you for trying.
The plot mechanics are Jesus - The One, the one who goes before to make the way for him, Judas, death and resurrection. But I respectfully disagree that it’s all Biblical. The deeper themes of the Matrix are Buddhist, an equally important layer that could go unnoticed depending on your cultural background. Buddha was not a supernatural atonement for our sins, he was a teacher who saw through the illusions of the mind and spent the rest of his life waking people up, freeing their minds from the invisible prison, and bringing relief from suffering. Relevant themes include not accepting your ego as your fundamental identity (Mr. Anderson), freeing your mind, training the mind with new abilities by noticing the illusoriness of things, this giving you a new experience of being alive (seeing the Matrix code) and so forth.
Actually, the creators of the Matrix both say that the movie is supposed to show what it's like to be Transexual people living in society. People that live in the world and yet don't fit in and don't feel comfortable. Until they start living their true Trans selves and no longer have to follow the system's rules. The Matrix is supposed to show what it's like to be Trans. They didn't write it to have anything to do with any biblical messages at all.
@@paulmayden7344 Even though there are all kinds of words and language used from the Abrahamic faiths (with some other cultures myths and stuff mixed in)? If they are now saying it after one/both transitioned, years after the initial trilogy was made, it sounds more like a bit of a retcon for extra clout, unless there are interviews and such during the early 2000s in which they at least alluded to this "It really is more of a coming of age thing for trans people" rather than "we mix all the more known faith story bits and faith-adjacent things together in a dystopian sci-fi setting with an extra helping of cool action scenes to score high marks among the at least decently religious young adult and middle aged demographic that is/was the USA populace".
@@paulmayden7344 Yeah and I'm sure the Wachowski duo have a bridge to sell you in Dubai. Get real, you watched the movie haven't you? That whole statement was a retcon to stay relevant with their Hollywood peer group and get someone to pull strings to put some money somewhere into the production of Matrix 4. The Social Darwinism culture in Hollywood ate the Wachowskis alive, you're parroting words spoken from the bleached bones picked clean by the vultures that own them.
Loved you watching the Matrix! ♥️ Glad to know your channel :D Matrix is one of my favorite movies/franchises of all my life. Matrix Reloaded is my favorite, the Wachowski sisters made continuations where they expanded the movie in all the ways - explored more that world, that story, the philosophy in it, the action scenes, the characters, all of it. I really suggest watching the sequels you can get a lot of cool moments from it. (And Animatrix too, a collection of animations in Matrix universe, one of THE BEST things from the franchise c: )
24:26 When Trinity says, "No, Neo, that's not true. It can't be true." And Neo asks, "Why?" Trinity doesn't answer him. This is possibly a clue that the Oracle had told Trinity in the past that whoever she falls in love with will be "The One." But she doesn't tell Neo this because, perhaps, she feels its awkward and strange to just tell Neo that she's in love with him, and that the Oracle had prophesied that whoever she falls in love with will be "The One." Trinity not answering Neo clues in the audience without telling them directly, that Neo is "The One." Great storytelling always utilizes subtext, and this movie does a great job at that!
fun fact: the room numbers (101, 303) are significant. another fun fact: in the Barbie movie, the Mattel building has 101 floors and then a level above marked "all the way up" which is therefore level 101. The Mattel building is very reminiscent of the Metacortex building, and both Mattel and the Matrix have similar Agents and Barbie meets her own version of the Oracle too...
I'm so glad you mentioned the Red Pill story at the beginning, otherwise I would've been triggered and possibly start shaking my fist the the monitor. Also, Vander showing up at the end and glare are you whilst thinking "I don't like the first John Wick movie due to the treatment of that puppy, you heartless wench." was very cute.
My laptop crashed 5 times in a row while trying to watch this video, in a different way each time. One page fault in a non-paged area BSOD, one driver crash and forced shutdown to restart, one manual restart to try to get my network to connect again, one graphics freeze and subsequent crash, and one power source change fault. Everything appears to be working for now, so maybe I can finally get past the first 5 seconds :) By the way, if you don't address it in your reaction, I would definitely watch your reaction to the sequels, especially the second and third ones. I like those two even more than the first one, and the first one is already amazing. The fourth one is also good, but not as good as the rest, and I haven't rewatched it since my first watch so I don't remember as much of it.
A little note about the filming they filmed the matrix and matrix reloaded in Sydney. I still remember them shutting down part of the freeway for a certain chase scene and part of the city for that very helicopter scene
Yes I here for a new video also new to your channel and you have pretty much been what I’ve been watching for like a week ford you through Movies in depth/Billy binges
My favourite thing about this story is that it it challenges the heroic arc. The story in the Heroic Arc is that the mentor always dies. In Star Wars, that's Obi-Wan Kenobi, for example, the mentor figure dies so the hero can rise. So if the Matrix was following the Heroic Arc, Morpheus would die. But what's really interesting is that he doesn't. He attempts to make the sacrifice, and Neo says no, goes back into the system and saves him. That's fascinating to me.
This was a blast to see in the theatres in 99. I was 11. This is my favourite film of the series, followed by the most recent one. In some ways the finale is the most beautiful, but I saw the first 3 in theatre and liked them all. #4 really tied them all together though and explained the meaning beyond the meaning.
There are certain lines from this movie that are just ingrained in my psyche forever. Just something about the whole movie is otherworldly. "You think that's air you're breathing?" is insane. And "you're telling me I can dodge bullets?" "I'm saying you won't have to dodge." Even the pop culture term "find out how deep the rabbit hole goes" was started here. Obviously Alice falls into the rabbit hole in that story, but the term specifically referring to how extensive a conspiracy is originated here
One of the most perfect movies ever made, so good, so well executed, still holds up even 25 years later. I would highly recommend checking out the Animatrix if you decide to go forward with the sequels. It’s a series of nine shorts made by different Japanese animation houses, it’s a stunning collection of different perspectives on the world of The Matrix and one of them ties directly into the events of Reloaded. The sequels were kind of hated at the time, mainly because internet speculation and hype was impossible to live up to, but I always enjoyed them for what they are and think they are worth seeing. Check them out and see for yourself.
Loved your reaction as always. You should watch society of the snow. It's a great movie and I would love to hear what you have to say about that one. If you do watch it I recommend the original language with subtitles, the acting was amazing
Man I feel so old. Because you're reactions were the very same as my reactions only they took place over twenty years ago, when I first watched this movie at release.
Everything was well explained in the movie, it's just a matter of paying more attention to the movie and less to the camera next to the movie. Some people miss some stuff when watching for the first time, but everything makes sense when watching a second time because the "cryptic" sentences are about later events that you already watched and know about, like the Oracle saying that Neo is not The One but "maybe in the next life", and how Morpheus knew how to help Neo escape the Agents at his office because he was watching the Matrix code from the outside.
This movie had such a cultral impact when it first came out and it still does to this day. The fashion, the effects, the ideas it explores, the iconic scenes. Didn't really need the sequels but thats about the only complaint I really have.
Well, yes, “just because he’s The One,” but that entails much more than it can come anywhere near properly summarizing. Enjoy the very scenic ride getting there! 😄
10:34 - the director used Dragonfly larvae as the model for that robot. Dragonfly larvae are a very scary underwater predator. 19:00 - makes sense that a program would make you accept a cookie before it interacts with you. 29:29 - they may look weird, but those Sentinels are very effective designs. Sensors, intelligence, a laser cutter, strong tentacles, and still cheap enough to churn out from factories.
Angelina if you really love this series I highly recommend all the other movies the Wachowskis made because they are great (well mostly), especially the Sense8 Netflix show
This movie was actually better than I thought it would be. Pleasant surprise, and I looove Keanu Reeves. Please please please react to "Treasure Planet" 2002 and "Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron" 2002. Both are AMAZING animated films, and so underrated.
Probably been said but my favourite matrix Easter egg is in the "woman in the red dress" program, all of the background characters are twins. It gives the impression of the programmer reusing assets
This movie released into theaters in 1999 just a month or two before Star Wars Episode 1, and i remember walking out of my first viewing opening weekend wondering (as a huge SW geek) how the hell Episode 1 was gonna hold a candle to this mind blowing experience. Answer: it didnt...not even close. It even tried to do the whole "chosen one, prophesied hero" bit...but embarrassingly weaker than what The Matrix had done. Its something that has forever been etched into my memory of that period in my young life
Yeah, Angelina. This is the film that revolutionized the industry forever that defines the use of CGI and VFX. It also brings out the dilemma of how we’re getting used to technology in such a way that now, we can’t imagine living our lives without it except for those who lived before us. The scene where Cyber actually admitting to the team that he wants to return being trapped in that prison because to him, at least he won’t be in a world where it’s a literal hell reminds me of a TV show called Continuum where future terrorists traveled to the past to enact their movement to secure their legacy. In one episode, there was this girl who recently joined the revolution that was telling one of the members how we need to open our eyes to the truth and he said the one thing that I still remember to this day and I quote, “But some prefer to sleep.” This statement shows how easy it is for us to believe in a lie because we get swayed to the pleasures and materials of this world that when we’re told otherwise, we reject it because it’s hard, if not, impossible to accept it. With that being said, we must be very careful of what we see and hear since not every thing is as it seems.
We lost our minds when this movie came out in 1999. The soundtrack, the style, the dialogue, everything was so cool. This movie made people question everything along with our own existence. Is this real or is this just a dream?
New subscriber here, great reaction of one of my favorite movies, I've watched it hundreds of times. I suggest, after watching the trilogy of course, watch the Animatrix, a compilation of shortfilms that expand the universe of the Matrix. 6:24 smooth advertising here 😅
I've watched this movie like 20 times and discussed the Phillip K Dick book references with so many people, but only realised last year that Neo was an anagram of "One" this whole time! Please watch Cloud Atlas. Same directors and amazingly good
16:32 "A sentinel. A killing machine designed for one thing." "Search and destroy." This always makes me laugh; that's two things! Three if you count "killing" as different from "destroy."
Im curious of what she'll think of the next chapter movies. Also, the anthology anime movie and some of the books and graphic novels that explores more about The Matrix Universe. Would be cool to see her reaction to try some of The Matrix video game series. It would also been cool to see her reaction for that special new gaming engine event that they had for The Matrix gaming demo limited time few years ago.
The Oracle told Neo that he COULD be the One, but it was like he was waiting for something, and that either he or Morpheus would die. His Death/Trinity's confession is what he was waiting for, so he could be reborn as the One. You were right about the biblical imagery, and Neo's death and resurrection as the One is part of that.
When the Matrix came out, I was already doin' the internet thing on my 56k modem, so when they freed Neo, I recognized the modulation sounds as modem noises. And for more information on the Human/Machine war, I'd highly recommend checking out The Animatrix. It's a series of short animations.
I wonder if “Dr.Strangelove or how I learned to stop worrying and love the bomb” Would be your kind of dark comedy. Dr.Strangelove both the movie and character are hilarious. Would be good to watch before Fallout- if you are going to do a reaction to that series.
I love all the details in this movie.. Neo being an anagram for One. The Oracle saying that he's waiting for something, and that perhaps he would become the one in a following life.. only for him to get shot, die, and come back.. a following life.. and perhaps the very best joke in this is that the Oracle gives him a cookie.. in a computer simulation.. Stuff like that makes me chuckle
@xX_H347H3R_Xx No. They are not live action. They are their own things. Movies are movies. Cartoons and csrtoons. And games are games. They do not blend together. Lol Otherwise i can make my own cartoon or game right now in the matrix world and dub it as canon. And we both know that would not be accurate. This is probably the lowest IQ comment i have ever seen.
There is also the AniMatrix which is an anthology of anime shorts that take place in The Matrix universe, some are just imaginative shorts, but others are cannon with the films and at least one "Finel Flight Of The Osiris" takes place right before 2nd Matrix film begins
The 2nd and 3rd films are actually pretty good and enjoyable. The 4th film was just… weird imo, but I heard a lot more people saying they didn’t really like the 4th one either. And storywise, you can be fine not watching the 4th one. The 3rd film didn’t really leave it that opened for it.
The explanation is that Trinity was told she would love The One, and she knows she's in love. No one can tell her she's in love. She just knows it, through and through. She knows it so much, that even the supposed death of the man she loves is not enough to dissuade her from believing he's The One, and therefore not dead. The explanation is that love conquers all, even death. It's ROMANTIC!
*So to give my answer on how Neo revived:* As you mentioned earlier there is a lot of Christian parallels in these movies. Trinity, Nebuchadnezzar, (Lu)Cypher, and then Neo's rebirth to the One. This is taking on Christ like parallels of dying and coming back again. The Oracle even hints at it when she says (and I paraphrase) that "You're not the one, you're probably waiting for something" (death) especially after already embracing (prematurely) that he's The One and letting go of most (if not all) of his hangups that kept him from believing. Side Note: The later two movies expand to parallel other religions, but unless I missed something the first one pretty much exclusively parallels Christianity.
Ummm... the short Final Flight of the Osiris, literally sets up the 2nd movie, so maybe waiting until after the 3rd isn't the best idea 🤔 just a thought...
@@sirfriendzone1228 I just googled " in what order should i watch the animatrix and you are right. the shorts are more intertwined with the movies then i remember. However, most people would watch all back 2 back instead of slipping in 1 or some between the movies which is why i said at the end.
Neo came back to life because "the kiss" reminded him that the world he died in isn't real. That's why after he came back to life, he could see the Matrix for what it actually was, just computer code. Like a dream where you realise you're dreaming. So cool.

Funny enough the matrix is written based off Philosophy Books from the past. The book he opens in his apartment to get the Floppy disk is one of the books lol
Morpheus: She is beginning to believe!
Iconic
Actually no. She didn't understand any of this movie. You can tell at the end of this video.
Before we had Stilgar saying "Lisan al-Gaib" to everything Paul Atreides does, we had Morpheus saying "he's the One" to everything Neo did
I got blown away by this movie when it was released!
Winner of 4 Oscars
Best Visual Effects
Best Sound Editing
Best Sound Mixing
Best Film Editing.
Do you live in Kansas?
that's cool to know. I damn love The Matrix but I was too young when it came out in 1999 no way I remember or was paying attention to the awards ceremony that time lol
Ever since I watched this in 3rd grade (millennials were bred different) Trinity was always the absolute best example of a "strong female lead" just like Ripley or Sarah Connor.
Strong female leads have been around forever. Woke gen z dont seem to know that.
Been rewatching bits and pieces of this movie of late. Stoked you reacted to it! Practically a first viewing. Biblical references are legit.
9:56 the COOLEST movie sound effect EVER!!! More than the lightsaber, Tie fighters and blaster, more than EVERYTHING! I love that sound!
I highly HIGHLY recommend watching the rest of the trilogy. Matrix Revolutions (aka Matrix 3) is one of my favorite movies of all time. It’s so freaking good
@xX_H347H3R_XxAnimatrix is one of the best release of this franchise no doubt
@oopartsw911 Resurrections would be Matrix 4 actually, that's the one you're talking about?
@xX_H347H3R_Xx omg I just realized that! Lol sorry yeah I meant Revolutions. I despise that 4th movie
unless you count The Animatrix that is
I like transitions in the video and also i like screen proportions like movie/ face cam, which are really good. subscribed for that
Lots of people like to write off Trinity's kiss at the end as a "true love's kiss" trope, but I always like to look at it simply as a strong reminder to Neo in the Matrix that he isn't actually dead, he still exists in the outside world and that if he chooses to, he can just get back up. It's what finally breaks the last bit of doubt and reservation he had and awakens him to seeing the Matrix for what it really is, a computer program that can be manipulated.
If your going further down the rabbit hole, watch The AniMATRIX (anime short films) first and then The 2003 sequels.
and the revisited documentary as an option
Anderson), freeing your mind,
training the mind with new abilities by noticing the illusoriness of things, this giving you a new experience of being alive (seeing the Matrix code) and so forth.
@@acslater017 And they don't have guns in the bible
Not only is Hugo Weaving in the MCU, but his first appearance in Captain America is shot-for-shot taken from the Matrix
When this came out back in 1999, people were absolutely mental about it. Movie was many years ahead of its time.
The fun part is the next time you watch The Fellowship of the Ring, all you'll be able to hear is "Welcome to Rivendell, Mr. Anderson."
😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂😂
Saw a vid where Gandalf like "We must look to the world of Men" and he's like "... Humanity is _a disease_ . . . and we . . are the Cure."
Had the good fortune of catching this on tv as a kid. It looked like magic back then and it still does now, glad stuff like this still holds up today
This is a video I didn't know I needed today. As a fan of "The Matrix" I'm excited to see how much this blows your mind if it does
oh please PLEASE watch whole trilogy I BEG there's so little reactions on 2nd and 3rd movies and i would love one exactly from youuu
that's because the 2 and 3 are really bad. and the 4 is the worst movie ever made. Animatix is 10/10
@xX_H347H3R_Xx have you read the matrix comics?
@@HernanSoberon first of all they are not bad enough to not follow the story second of all i didn't ask 🤨
@@crazymurder7559 it's ok if you like the 2 and 3th but the 4 is an abomination. And welcome to internet, where you don't have to ask.
I really would LOVE a reaction for Matrix 2 and 3 (actually for 4 too, and the Animatrix also)
fun fact: the room numbers (101, 303) are significant.
another fun fact: in the Barbie movie, the Mattel building has 101 floors and then a level above marked "all the way up" which is therefore level 101.
Everything appears to be working for now, so maybe I can finally get past the first 5 seconds :)
By the way, if you don't address it in your reaction, I would definitely watch your reaction to the sequels, especially the second and third ones.
I love how Morpheus says "This line is tapped, so I must be brief. YOU ARE THE ONE, NEO!"
The agents listening were probably "Well...that was easy..."
Loved your reaction to one of my favorite films.I have over 50 action figures from the movie.
Yes I here for a new video also new to your channel and you have pretty much been what I’ve been watching for like a week ford you through Movies in depth/Billy binges
Oops I’m not I I’m tired
I love your reactions, appreciate you reacting to one of my favourite films of all time. Best reaction channel 🥹🙂↕️
🎉
"Baby Keanu!" ... -_- I think it's time to watch Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure
I've seen this movie SO many times, and every time it's even more clear about how not a single moment was wasted.
Obviously Alice falls into the rabbit hole in that story, but the term specifically referring to how extensive a conspiracy is originated here
Oh My Gosh! I can’t wait for this reaction!
Neo: you're saying I can dodge bullets?
Morpheus: I'm saying you won't need to
Rees, that segue into the ad was impeccable.
We need that reaction to Rush hour 2 and 3. We starving for them
29:49 "The Oracle told me that I would fall in love" Dog in the background "wrong" 😂
I don't know why people think tan lines are bad I think they look great
People are individuals bro beans. Don't lump folks unlike you into groups, that's how otherism starts.
Nice! Don’t miss out on The Animatrix (2003)! So good!
Lets see how deep this rabbit hole goes!
Man I feel so old. Because you're reactions were the very same as my reactions only they took place over twenty years ago, when I first watched this movie at release.
I wouldn't mind if you did the other three. They are fun to watch first time.
You're so fun! I don't know if you're into anime at all but I'd like to see you react to The Apothecary Diaries.
Its something that has forever been etched into my memory of that period in my young life
"Look at how young he looks!"
So you haven't seen Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure, then? XD
_Imagine... inserting yourself into a video game!"_ Um, ever heard of a little 1982 film called "Tron"?! lol
We lost our minds when this movie came out in 1999. The soundtrack, the style, the dialogue, everything was so cool. This movie made people question everything along with our own existence. Is this real or is this just a dream?
What an amazing movie! Timeless.
21:00 To go from seeing Keanu in this be terrible with a gun to John Wick is pretty hilarious.
you're training for a marathon? you are even more perfect than i thought!
A killing machine designed for one thing."
"Search and destroy."
This always makes me laugh; that's two things!
Not a fan of any of the sequels. But I'm glad you were appropriately blown away by this.
you've got to watch the other ones! most channels only watch the first
The Oracle told Neo that he COULD be the One, but it was like he was waiting for something, and that either he or Morpheus would die.
It's a series of short animations.
btw the reflection on the doorknob you mentioned is also one of famous movie mistakes, because you can also see the reflection of the camera :D
It's funny how one of the last things you mentioned was the doorknob... you gonna have to go back now and freeze frame it...
I wonder if “Dr.Strangelove or how I learned to stop worrying and love the bomb”
Would be your kind of dark comedy.
The “why” isn’t revealed until the last movie. It’s contentious, but it’s not unprecedented in other franchise lore…
The only matrix lore is the matrix movies. There is nothing else that is cannon for the movies except the movies. 🤡
@xX_H347H3R_Xx No. They are not live action. They are their own things. Movies are movies. Cartoons and csrtoons. And games are games. They do not blend together. Lol
Otherwise i can make my own cartoon or game right now in the matrix world and dub it as canon. And we both know that would not be accurate. This is probably the lowest IQ comment i have ever seen.
@@WheresWaldo05 I mean the concept has been used in different franchise lore. Non-matrix. I don’t want to say which as it will spoil
The spin around slow mo shots? It’s called bullet time, and it was first used in The Matrix.
Its crazy how much of action dramatic kinda stuff in movies nowadays are there just cus of this movie. Its kinda mindblowing xd
None of the other live action movies are all that great, IMO, but I definitely recommend the animated prequel, The Animatrix.
The whole Fight scene on 25:27 is Truly Iconic and Incredible, I wanna rewatch it Every Single Time😃
So ahead of its time brilliant film
If you do dive into the Matrix, please do not exclude the Animatrix!!! (probably best watched after the 3rd movie)
Ummm... the short Final Flight of the Osiris, literally sets up the 2nd movie, so maybe waiting until after the 3rd isn't the best idea 🤔 just a thought...
@@sirfriendzone1228 I just googled " in what order should i watch the animatrix and you are right. the shorts are more intertwined with the movies then i remember. However, most people would watch all back 2 back instead of slipping in 1 or some between the movies which is why i said at the end.
I love your reaction videos 🥰
Neo came back to life because "the kiss" reminded him that the world he died in isn't real. That's why after he came back to life, he could see the Matrix for what it actually was, just computer code. Like a dream where you realise you're dreaming. So cool.
There is *ONLY 3* Matrix movies and The Animatrix. Please do react to the full trilogy tho. Loved these movies growing up.
