Hey guys! Thank you all so much for all the love and support you constantly show me over here on this channel! Yesterday was one of those days where I woke up feeling like shit. Not in a sick way, but I just felt terrible about myself. It was weird as fuck. Felt like I couldn't be proud of myself. Felt like I didn't deserve anything. Felt inadequate. Only reason I'm saying this is because this was on my heart, and I felt like someone out there may need to hear this. I know that a lot of times life can get weird. It can be difficult. It can seem unbearable. I want to remind you guys that no matter what stage you're in, in your life, there will be struggles. We are all going through it. That is a huge part of the reason I make these videos: to help provide some relief and escapism for all of you
Lex has never been psychotic like Joker. He's a bald, insanely smart, stoic, calm and collected businessman. Nothing like Eisenberg is in this movie, but also nothing like Alex is expecting Lex to be.
Exactly! He's been a businessman, an arrogant a-hole, but never crazy or fully unhinged. My personal favorite version of Lex is from All-Star Superman. A human, a genius, a billionaire--with all the self-confidence and human failings that come with it. There's something to be said about a man who feels he is made less, that it is patently unfair for an alien to be this pinnacle of power without having to work for it like he had to. My second favorite is likely Rosenbaum's Lex from Smallville. A potential brother, a best friend, an abused child looking for connection, feelings of personal betrayal? Anything but this
Lex HAS been that way but only when under the influence of another being or drug, take when Brainiac used Lex as an incubator or when he was juicing himself up with that crazy kryptonite steroid thing he made and he was roiding out 😂
I think what this movie was going for was making him into like, a pretentious Elon Musk/Jeff Bezos type of character, which I honestly don't think is a bad idea in concept, but the issue is that they leaned too much into the whole "pretentious god complex" aspect, which just made him seem unhinged and ridiculous. Methinks with a better script or better direction, this version of the character could have had more going for it.
Eisenberg could’ve been an amazing RIDDLER, imagine replacing lex’s character with The riddler, it could’ve been much more fun and fitting for Eisenberg eccentric personality
I think Eisenberg could have even been a good Lex. He's a strong actor, he's got the look after his head was shaved. They should have just toned down the insanity
I hate how people are too annoyed by that he isn't acting like a Lex and more like a Joker and Riddler, but they don't give a shift when Marvel tone down serious and powerful characters and made them a joke.
@ like who? Plenty of people have been upset by ultron, malekith, abomination, modok, the mandarin, and so forth. Lex just stands out amongst bad portrayals because it is SO off and was a factor in the failure of a disappointing film that started the downward turn of a new cinematic universe. Yeah, ultron should have been far more insane, but he didn’t derail the MCU’s trajectory. There’s a difference
38:45 If you remove the safety pin and don’t let go of the lever you can put the safety pin back. But if you let go of the lever the fuze will ignite and there is no turning back
@@xtheregulator42x This movie was released a little more than a week before JDM's first episode as Negan. He had been John Winchester since 2005. Plus, he was in Zack Snyder's Watchmen as the Comedian.
Superman knew exactly who he was when he was listening at Lex Luthors party. He just waited until Batman was out active again. How do you think you found him so easily?
@@Terp311wrong, Superman knew exactly who he was at Luthors party. He could hear everything. He waited to catch Bruce in action which is why he found him so easily
You have a weird decision to make "Justice League" or "Justice League Snider cut". In most movies the directors cut just means extra scenes, this is not the case here. The Snider cut its really, really, different like not the same movie different. Its fucked up how different they are. LIKE for Snider cut (my choice) DISLIKE for Theatrical cut. Supermans death makes more sense in Snider.
They're not nearly as different as you suggest. Yes, there are differences, some bigger than others, but the "core" of the movie is the same between the two.
The Batman that Affleck is portraying is based widely on the Frank Miller character from his graphic novel. The suit you see that has “jokes on you” is from when Joker killed Robin. This Batman is older, has been fighting crime in Gotham for 20 years and has lost his moral compass. You should watch the animated movie Batman: Return of the Dark Knight parts one and two. You will see why Batman has no issue killing. Hope that helps, as always Great reaction!
Exactly that movie is so good and so are all the other DC animated movies. That version of Batman isn’t my favorite I like the more agile and younger Batman with strict morals but i can respect this version and Affleck fits the look perfectly
@@johnnyskinwalker4095 That's a fair point, but Batman's origin has been so used in the past in film that I thought it was a good idea to do a different version of Batman.
When Iron Man came out with the tease for building to an Avengers film, DC was asked if they had any similar plans. Their response was no, their heroes were iconic and had no need to team up (even though there is that Justice League thing in the comics). Flash forward a few years when Avengers makes over a billion at the box office... NOW they decide they need to go that route. Unfortunately, instead of wanting to establish each hero on their own and build to the big team up, they had a 'we need to catch up to Marvel quick' mentality and rushed everything. DC/ WB only have themselves to blame.
I don’t think it was bad. Man of steel BVS and The Synder cut was an amazing trilogy and they should’ve expanded from there like they wanted to but yall hated BVS which caused them to change 2017 Justice league
I blame people who hate this film because a gf we Zach Synder left it gave WB the green light to butcher the justice league. Man of steel BVS and the Synder Cut it a great trilogy and they could’ve had the solo movies after like they wanted to. They didn’t need to follow the mcu, just run their own pace and they tried but they didn’t trust Synder because a lot of people didn’t understand what he was doing
@@tmac731It wasn’t as terrible as some people make it out to be, but both MoS and BvS are fundamentally not good because they do injustice to each of their respective characters, namely in the fact that both Batman AND Superman do not kill, period. I know what they were going for with the seriousness of Superman killing Zod, but they still needed to find a way to have him beat Zod without killing him. In the OG Superman 2, they find a way to trap Zod and his crew in some crazy prison. I think it would’ve been cool to have a callback to that. Then, I do understand that Batman had been done 3 times up until this point on the big screen. But to establish why this particular Batman is so dark and jaded and unlike the others, we need more than some expository dump.
@@tmac731For example, the Robert Pattinson Batman was absolutely fantastic for establishing the character, and it matches perfectly with Batman Year One where he’s extremely moody and aggressive. However, it only works for one movie, if they try to do that again if they do a sequel, it won’t work.
unpopular opinion but this was my favorite "movie batman" he is a seasoned batman that has been through years of dealing with the worst of the worst and no longer pulls his punches
Affleck is fantastic as batman all around. Batman is one of the harder superheroes for an actor to play, because you have to play two distinct characters, Batman and Bruce are NOT the same person and require you to really flex your acting ability, and bruce is often masking himself with yet another persona. Keaton was a decent Batman, but was fantastic as the isolated, emotionally damaged and traumatized bruce wayne, for example. Clooney was decent at both, but trapped in a terrible film. Bale was far better at being batman than being bruce wayne. Affleck nails both sides of the character very well, and (in my opinion) has the same problem clooney did, in that he's trapped in a subpar film by a writer/director who doesn't really understand the characters he's creating. visually stunning films, don't get me wrong, but lacking in understanding of the substance of it all. i was really looking forward to the cancelled Affleck standalone Batman film, because it feels like Affleck really get's the character, and he's a fantastic director, so i had real high hopes for it.
Fr like the comic Batman that stays the same morally throughout decades of fighting crime in one of the most dangerous cities on Earth is completely unrealistic to how that would affect someone's mind. The closest the comics get to portraying the mental and emotional impact of that life is the time after [SPOILER] Jason's death, where he's much more careless and cruel than usual.Ben Affleck's Batman probably started out with the no-guns, no-killing rules, but unlike the comics he didn't keep that mindset as he progressed and saw more and more terrible crimes. Maybe he would've been less of a hardass if he's had a Robin in this universe, but he doesn't. There's no reason for him not to kill besides his own moral compass.
@@gourdguru I think Pattinson's Batman, while quite different from the comics (he doesn't pretend not to be emo), is also a good portrayal, especially since that's the first few years of his work as Batman. In the other Batman movies, and in most of the comics, he starts out his vigilante "career" with already great skills and planning. We get to see Pattinson's Batman make mistakes and learn from them.
Alex really said he didn’t get any of the Superman origin in MOS?? 😅 The opening scene is literally 5 minutes of his origin, then the flashbacks throughout. Gota love Alex
@@B-DadSmallville is not an indication of what Snyder was going for. There’s so many ways to do a Superman origin story and Snyders looked hardcore and almost depressing compared to The series.
@ It’s over. The evil Snyder can’t hurt you anymore 😂😂😂 I just meant I know of Clark’s family and the lore. It’s always different but I’m sure there was plenty of same there too. But yeah even what we saw wasn’t really Smallville feeling.

38:46 The pin of the hand grenade is a lock, the handle is the fulminant, when you remove the lock you can put it back on if you have not released the handle, once you release the handle without the lock on, you release the fulminant and after approximately 5 seconds it will activate the explosive charge. In summary: Yes, you can remove the pin but once you release the handle there is no turning back.
Tom Holkenborg (AKA Junkie XL) gets slept on a lot, too. He worked on ZSJL solo and that score is phenomenal. And he had a big hand in helping to craft this movie’s score, too. They work great together.
Man I still listen to so many of the DCEU scores even though I definitely am not a fan of the movies. Snyder has a gift for making some moments shine even if he can't get the whole movie to work and when you have good 'moments' and add Zimmer? Magic. Man of steel music never fails to move me.
I agree. Smallville had a lot of what I consider the "gold standard" for some of the Superman characters. Which for me were Lex, Martha, and Johnathan. All of which were played perfectly by their respective actors.
@@brutusjudas5842 Yeah it's such a shame. The showing I was at people applauded and cheered at her entrance. Can't imagine the excitement level if it wasn't spoiled. :)
13:26 - So, the Joker painted message on the armor isn't just a reference to the Joker, it's also a reference to one of the comics where Joker kills Robin, Batman's second, his partner in crime. It leaves a really bad scar on Bruce, he's never the same after he loses Robin. Do yourself a favour and watch the scene again, watch Batfleck's acting, it's one of the best scenes in this movie if you understand why he's so angry right there.
27:40 Old as Alfred is (usually 60-70), he can still kick ass. He’s shot aliens with a shotgun, gone after invaders in the batcave, and is all the more dangerous than (usual) Batman since he doesn’t share his no-kill rule.
My all time favorite Superhero film. There's plenty of emotional depth in the Snyderverse, there's just not any unnecessary exposition. Superman and Batman are the two most recognizable and well known superheroes in all of pop culture... We've gotten the full blown origin story a bunch... Personally, I like how we get an older Batman who's more brutal, a bit jaded, and honestly... More grounded and realistic. The way Ben Affleck stares at the suit like an alcoholic needing his bottle. The Snyderverse takes the concept of what it would be like to live in a world with superheroes... The grounded, serious tone is what I appreciate so much. The morality aspect of it... The nihilistic nature of characters vs the hopeful faithful nature of others... It makes for a deeper story with each character's ideologies etc... Marvel imo wastes time doing joke fests and not telling a deeper story, with the exception of stories told in shows like Daredevil and The Punisher. I'm really glad you saw and appreciated the true meaning behind the "Martha" scene... It's easily overlooked by some people. Also, the greatest fighting sequence is shown in this film: The warehouse fight sequence. The Robin costume is a direct nod to the fact that Joker killed him and kicked him by writing that on his burnt suit. When I first watched this, the only thing I wasn't initially sold on was Lex Luthor, but upon rewatches, I appreciate his character... He's the Lex before the iconic Lex... He's extremely nihilistic and psychotic, but he's not as collective as he becomes after this experience via this film. Overall, I love it and I hope to see your reaction to Zack Snyder's Justice League... Please DO NOT watch the abomination that was the Joss Whedon version.
@@ivanagustinortiz5237 it's even worse when you consider how they've sometimes explained it in comics and animation before. Superman can literally hear EVERYTHING, and just focuses on whatever sounds are most important at the time. if he hears an entire group of people screaming in terror at once or a series of massive explosions, that's the issue that takes precedence over one individual scream, for example. in the issue of Lois Lane, he literally can recognize her voice as distinct and considers her top priority, Barring an impending world ending catacysm. the same SHOULD apply to Martha Kent, and a more comic accurate Clark would likely have intervened when she was first kidnapped.
With a grenade- once the pin is pulled the “safety” has been disengaged. As soon as the hand lever releases past a certain point the ignition has already begun making its way to the explosive payload, within. You could pull the pin and potentially hold the grenade as long as you want. But as soon as the fulcrum of that hand lever progresses far enough that “fuse” gets lit.
1. I love seeing the DCU through the eyes of non-fans who see it like it actually is. 2. Lex was never like the Joker. He is not supposed to be insane. He is a genius that fears Superman will one day take over and is hyper focused on killing him before he can. 3. If they had only added "Save my mother, Martha Kent, save Martha"...it would stopped the literal flood of tears from bitchy fans that harshly judged the movie and not made that scene as cringe as it was. 4. Yes, in the comics their mothers names were both Martha. 5. There is no "I think Batman would team up", Batman was always a loner AND this is before the Justice League which formed out of a "need" to be able to take on stronger villain's. That is why the movie is "The Dawn of Justice". IE: The need for the Justice League. 6. The "monster" is supposed to be Doomsday and in the comics....Doomsday kills Superman in "The Death of Superman". But. Will he rise again? 7. This is the Batman after Robin is beaten to death by the Joker...he is broken. Dark and more extreme. 8. The "thing" that is missing is that Warner Bros wanted to do in 3 movies what the MCU did over 12...build a cinematic universe. Snyder was forced to make this 2 part script into 1 and then do the same with the next movie, Justice League all while turning down the idea that Superman needed another movie and that the Wonder Woman, Flash and Cyborg movies should be released BEFORE this one.
The "Martha" scene isn't cringe at all, people just misunderstood it and got triggered for some reason. Also, it shouldn't matter when the movies were released. There's nothing wrong with introducing characters before their movies are made. The MCU did it with Black Panther and Spiderman. And there's a version of Lex in the comics that's like he is in this movie. Yet, people either don't know that or have forgotten.
Of course you only really needed Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman, movies before the team up movies started, just like Marvel only really needed Iron Man, Thor, Hulk, and Captain America before their big team up... It is OK to introduce some character IN the team up movie...
@@jamesraykenney Iron Man had 2. Hulk was already Established with several iterations. Introducing Thor and Cap basically set up a team in fans eyes since Iron Man 2 also had War Machine, Natasha Romanoff and Nick Fury in it...plus the Agents of Shield show was on TV setting up the Avengers movie. So I will disagree that just doing a Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman film would have been enough especially since Snyder himself said he had 2 scripts and wanted The Flash and Cyborg coming in to help stop Doomsday who was also written very differently for this single film. BTW...Brainiac was completely cut out of the script and Luther was made the creator of Doomsday. Brainiac was going to be the computer on Zods ship making it more in line with one of the comics iterations of the character.
To explain the Chamber. In this version of the story, Kryptonians are no longer born. A decision is reached as to what *type* of person is needed for a particular task and the genetic material from two people who are best disposed to that task are combined in the chamber to tailor the resultant child to be what is needed. Zod, for instance, was literally bred to be a warrior in such a manner. However, if you're not careful, or screw around with the genetic material, you can create some truly monstrous beings with unpredictable and terrible power.
It got rated R for the F bombs and the scene in the hearing room after the explosion showing Superman just standing there. Those were cut from the theatrical version.
@ been a while since I watched it myself but I’m pretty sure there’s the explosion and then later you see him helping the victims outside. Might have to watch it again. But it’s such a muddled mess I don’t know if I want to subject my to it.
@@bradleewalsh7676 - yes it's in the theatrical release. NO bodies being incinerated or pieces of humans flying around in explosion scene that needed to be cut.
A lot of people assume Alfred is supposed to be weak and old, but in the comics, that's not really the case. In most versions, Alfred served in the British Armed Forces or worked in intelligence, which gave him combat skills, medical training, and tactical knowledge. As for his age, he’s usually portrayed as being in his late 50s to early 60s in most iterations.
Wait, Man of Steel shows Krypton at the beginning of the movie and how Zod wasn't listening to Jor-el about the death of the planet. They even show Kal-el being sent off to Earth. No origin story?
he means, Superman didnt get an origin story arc. He was just thrust into it in the first movie, and never knew what he was doing. Superman's origin story was supposed to be Man of Steel, BVS and ZSJL. That was his "Hero's Journey".
A NON-SPOILER STORYTIME: Although the "extended version" of this movie was as long as it was... the studio refused to allow for Zack to create his completed universe which would've ultimately answered all questions and allow audiences to watch them in whatever order they wanted just like a nerd would with a comic book collection or just like people do with the MCU (watching them out of order, and still having them all make sense, due to all the information being there scattered throughout). Thus, the following movies are missing which could've beaten the MCU if they were given time to breathe: > Su*c*de Squad (the original script for the brutal R-rated 3-hour long action/thriller/horror team-up movie that was to introduce The Joker and a bunch of new characters that are all bad guys, including Harley Quinn) > Green Lantern (solo movie + backstory) > Batman (solo movie + proper backstory to how Bruce became "Old Man Bruce" like in the comics + Directed By Ben Affleck) > Man Of Steel 2 (explaining more backstory, and much more emotional character development) > Zack Snyder's Justice League 2 & 3 (Zack almost completed the 2nd film during production of the first one, and the footage only exists in his possession until the studio allows him to complete the rest of the movies. The 3rd film was a natural result of changing so much during the production of the already released films being released as they were due to studio interference) > The Flash (the version that was originally pitched and not the version we ultimately got) The studio in fact removed so much content, that in the next movie (Zack Snyder's Justice League), it was originally meant to be a 2-part cinematic epic, with both parts being roughly 4+ hours in length each. In the end, the best Zack could hope for was what he was allowed to create: > a single 143-minute Superman movie > a single 182-minute long Batman movie that was badly merged into a Batman VS Superman movie because the studio wasn't going to allow him to make a natural continuation > a single but extremely worthy team-up masterpiece in Zack Snyder's Justice League movie (the legacy of this film cannot be understated, as the studio wouldn't even let Zack Snyder grieve over the loss of his real-life daughter who took her own life during Production of the 2017 version of the Justice League movie, and as a result, the studio just handed that first version of the film over to Joss Weadon who didn't even wana do it. As a result of that, Joss changed the entire feel of every single character, their motivations, warped the story into a vomit-like cake, and didn't give us a proper conclusion to anything. The studio also forced Joss to cut the film to a 2 hour long runtime. In the end, the studio finally caved and Zack Snyder's Justice League finally happened a few years later, with 85% new footage, a 4+ hour runtime, and among some of the best fight scenes in all of DC - excluding the Dark Knight Trilogy). The remaining movies which ended up being removed from Snyder's control but were infact created for public consumption were the following: > Su*c*de Squad (the 2016 version we ended up getting was so tampered with, it's barely a shadow of its former self. The studio even ended up getting a music video editor to edit the complete film behind the Director's back just before the films release. The Director denounces the films existence to this very day. You can find heaps of the removed footage in all the trailers, music videos, and promitional material) > Aquaman (a hit with both critics and audiences) > Aquaman 2 (a missed opportunity) > Wonder Woman (to be fair, turned out to be a worthy entry if you finished before the final battle) > Wonder Woman 2 (a commerical and critical failure) > The Flash (another heavy missed opportunity that had good moments, but ultimately failed to do what it was originally set out to do in the original script)
That clown Whedon also hit back at Gal accusing him of being abusive by saying English was her second language. What's the matter Joss, won't she sleep with you scumbag. In buffy he was not allowed alone on set with Michelle Trachtenberg who played Dawn. She was 14 at the time.
TL;DNR My dude. Snyder is overrated. More complicated does not mean better. His direction and storytelling peaked with Suckerpunch. He buries rational narratives and emotional character building beneath his desire to be Michael Bay.
@@MercenaryMuse Your TL;DR doesn't even come close to what i was explaining. Beyond that, ignoring the fact that Suckerpunch sucked in general, the only version of Suckerpunch anyone should be watching, is the Extended Cut (a much more difficult version to find these days). And if a few extra minutes + a few new scenes aren't enough, that's because the movie was so restricted, censored, and cut down by the studio that Zack's still waiting to get the okay to release his Director's Cut (aka, his version of the actual movie that hasn't been tampered with by the studio). As goes for your imaginary version of Michael Bay - anyone with half a brain, knows he's an actual competent Writer and Director. Case and point; - Bad Boys 1 & 2 (Will Smith owes his action career to MB) - The Rock (Nicholas Cage owes MB for his action career too) - Pain and Gain - The Island And don't even bother mentioning movie that he's Produced but didn't Write or Direct. Being a Producer on a film gives you little say in what actually happens with the movie. Their biggest responsibilities are legal issues, shooting schedulling, financing, hiring talented people like writers and other folks on production, and lastly, commerical viability.
I'm just curious, what made him feel more like the comic book character? The fact that he murders people with guns, ritualistically tortures people, wakes up next to random women with no real explanation, or that he has somehow developed the super power of prophetic dreaming? He's without a doubt the least comic book accurate Batman. But to be fair, this script also split Lex Luthor in half and mixed one half with Batman and the other half with the Riddler. The whole movie really wanted to be a Frank Miller story but it was written by someone who has decidedly far less talent than Frank Miller.
@kylekillpack2272 I feel his fight scenes like the warehouse scene it felt like something from a comic book the way he fighting and the way he’s super big and opposing he maybe the least comic accurate one but the other Batman they fight scenes just don’t hit like his.
@@kylekillpack2272 Well if you look at the earliest comic iterations of batman he did indeed kill and used guns. It was changed to the "no kill, no guns" later on but originally, yes, Batman did use guns and killed. Also the Batman that is portrayed in Zack Snyder's movies is based off of Frank Millers Dark Knight series which the movie did a solid job at doing. Therefore Ben Affleck's adaptation of Batman was one of, if not the most comic accurate physically and mentally comparing to the original Batman comics and the frank miller Dark knight series this is specifically based off of. I don't understand why people complain about the killing/guns and his mentality in the film when all it takes is a quick 5 min google search lol. You people expect some perfect portrayal of a character which is not possible. Someone will always have something negative to say and in no way am i saying this Batman is perfect but in no way was he a horrible adaptation... People just say that cause of the DC bandwagon hate that came for no reason.
One thing I haven't seen mentioned is this version of an older jaded Batman with a dead Robin is largely based on Frank Miller's portrayal in the classic game changing comic The Dark Knight Returns, including the fight with Superman where Batman wears a similar metal suit and puts the beatdown on Supes, although under very different circumstances. I hope you check out Justice League Snyder cut.
stay away from the non-Snyder cut - I didn't mind it, but it was super disjointed and confusing - the Snyder cut is worth two episode, the movie is so long.
A little deeper insight to make you understand more, the whole point of this movie is to show lex’s cruel ambition to exterminate superman and make the whole world to hate him. So thats why in the terrorists village they kill all the people and said that superman did it because he was there, place a bomb inside a led so he could not see it therefore couldn’t save everyone and make it look like he did it on purpose, sending all that cruel letter to bruce and said it was from superman, and the final attempt to make superman kill batman (human being) so that superman could save his mother and then lex could show the murder that superman has conducted to the whole world. So i think that the emotional expressions and feelings in this movie are pretty touching because you’re seeing superman and also batman to try and fit to this world so hard and be accepted but only by the end of the movie when superman dies that humanity finally understand that they’re just trying to do good and all of that murders and evil was done by lex. P.S. Batman seems to be like the bad guy in this movie because he’s already been batman for 20 years in Gotham and he’s getting tired because there’s still crime, evil, etc so he decided to just put bat brands on the criminals that he caught to warn other criminals that if they do anything, batman will be there.
@@passionsquietrage I mean, there's literaly a scene where theres at least two guys in a car, batman rips it to pieces with the batmobiles machine gun and then drives THROUGH it blowing the car up. If they can survive that, then they are the real superheros of the film lol
World's Finest, Parts One & Part Two from Superman: The Animated Series (1997) does a far superior job of portraying the first meeting between Superman and Batman. This storyline sees the Joker arriving in Metropolis and forming an alliance with Lex Luthor. Bruce Wayne's arrival in Metropolis leads to a tense start with Clark Kent, thanks Bruce asking Lois out for dinner. Batman and Superman then meet in a strip club, Superman discovering Batman's true identity. Batman then discovers Superman's identity by tracking Superman back to Clark's apartment, again no physical just both characters being mental games on each other along with Bruce trying to make Clark a little jealous by dating Lois for a little while. Batman leaves Metropolis as an ally to Superman. There's no Superman's death or underwhelming introductions of key DC characters. The Batman (2004) also had a really fun first meeting between Batman and Superman, heavily inspired by the story above just with its own spin. Both are so much better than what we got in this film.
11:18 Today I learned the news guy from spiderman voices omni man. What a glow-up. As someone that got most of my superman knowledge from watching Smallville I honestly never saw Lex Luthor as a crazy man. He was a bald man that at some point was friends with Clark, he kept trying to prove he had powers but always failed, he did get obsessed with him but was still very much a normal and level headed person from an outside perspective.
15:14 - This Lex was quite enough for me. I feel like many people are too focused on whatever they knew before upon tapping into something new. Also I love how Lex jokes about Sups and Bats (and hints Batman to investigate his R&D) right in their faces knowing perfectly well that those two have no idea.
Re: Grenades. The pin you pull is there to keep the clip/handle thingy in place on the grenade. You put the pin back in to hold the clip in place? You're good. The clip pops off cause you let the grenade go? Nothing to put the pin back into, that grenade is gonna go boom.
What I got from this movie, if a person who actively tries attack and murder me, then I should mention my mothers name because there is a chance that his mother could have the same name as my mom
The entire reason of Batman being who he is is because of his parents death, and to see someone who he sees as nothing but a monster trying to be a god, say that he only wants to save his mother that it makes him human after all, it’s just an added benefit that they have the same mothers name, which also makes it matter more because it’s also allows for him to relate to Superman in some way and that’s it’s meaning
@@seanoconnor8178That is BS. First thing, Clark never has called his mother by her name the entire movie. Now he suddenly does just to have Batman go "Wow, our moms have the same name" And the other thing. This also doesn't make sense since earlier Batman says "Your parents probably told you..." so he was aware (or at least was assuming) that Superman has parents. This movie has a lot of BS but that scene is the biggest of them all
@ of course he has parents but he thought that Superman never cared for humanity because of all the death that happened from man of steel, but when he humanized himself by putting his moms well being over his own rather he died or not it allowed Batman to see that other side of him where he cared for the human race. Sorry that you hate this movie, I personally think it’s a masterpiece. And no matter what I don’t think we will ever agree
Somebody has probably said this, but there's an animated version of this from the 90s that's awesome. It's a more traditional version of both characters, but the story and the way they slowly gain respect for each other and eventually become more friendly is so well done.
1:42 We've seen Thomas and Martha Wayne die so many times we can make a drinking game out of it. 6:37 I got to hand to Zack Snyder that first seen of Batman was perfect. The way he depicts Batman as this demonic creature straight outta a horror movie is so epic.
I love that you embraced the Martha thing. So many people hated on that when the movie was released and I never understood why. This movie is so under appreciated.
I've never seen it that way, but when MoS came out I was hyped that DC movies were back and getting nice live action big budget films again. And the director of 300 as well? Sign me up. I also love the MCU as well. but strangely prefer Whedon's work there over what he did in JL. Snyder cut is much more in line with the first two films. Whedon colors his movies like they are literally out of comic panels. which imo works well in the avengers
@@johnohrstrom5112 I agree, this film and man of steel hold up really well compared to a lot of the MCU. they just have a different feel and tone to them that works well with how DC usually is. MCU has its peaks and valleys, and peak MCU i guess is pretty subjective, I know I adore Ultron because of James Spader as a stargate nerd myself, though that one gets debated a lot. it pretty much sets up the infinity saga in the same way as man of steel for justice league.
I'll always die on the hill that the intro with Bruce running into the collapsing Metropolis trying to do anything is one of the best depictions of Bruce/Batman across media... Sadly, in my opinion, nothing else in the DCEU ever came close to it...
Its a great moment but then the rest of the movie happens. Batman using the 1% line as the main reason to kill Superman is easily one of the worst depictions of Batman I've ever seen.
@@jabbathehutt83 I also loved the warehouse fight with Bruce being a beast. This movie has a few great moments, but they're just so poorly strung together
Wonder Woman is what you're looking for if you want that emotional "it" factor. Edit: also if you want that R rating watch the DC animated movies. Some of those are daaaaaaaaaaark. Straight up disturbing at times.
So the thing they fight at the end is called Doomsday a monster using the corpse of General Zod from the previous movie. His main thing is evolution/adapting. Which is why he keeps getting stronger and more difficult to kill.
Jesse Eisenberg's portrayal of Lex Luthor was like a wet fart to the face. The dude is nickel and dime store Michael Cera for me and plays practically the same character in everything he does.
This Batman is the Batman that has been doing this for 20 years and has seen and lost so much that he is at that point of at any cost. The end when he doesn’t brand lex is showing that he is coming back to what he used to be. Superman’s death was a turning point. You have to watch this movie knowing where Batman is in his life and understand that he is different at this point in his life. The struggle that Superman goes through trying to do the right thing and doubting if he can live up to what his father seen him as makes him relatable and human. Love it
in most of the comics and the shows where Bats and Sups are a part of the Justice League, batman is very closed off and suspicious of every member of the team, so much so that he has a thing called a contingency plan that is basically all the weaknesses of the the members just incase they go evil or rogue.
37:40 oh geeeeee look at that… Alex understood the entire point of the Martha scene, got it very easily and thought it was well done (which is the correct response). That scene humanized Superman to Batman and made Batman realize they had more in common than he initially thought.
This is the sort of review I wish people would listen to This guy is like the general audience, he clearly sees and knows that this film did not explain or show or focus on why or what made Batman became like The Punisher (which it should have focused on and dealt with).
It definitely did. It just wasn’t spoon fed to you with too much unnecessary dialogue and flashbacks. It’s all definitely there. It’s better to say you just wish Batfleck had a solo film before this movie to show his world right before the beginning of this one.
@@notyouraveragebear9326 there's this famous proverb : instead of offering too many hands to tocuh, offer a few to hold. The film clearly did not learn from this proverb
His Robin was murdered by joker..........that put him over the edge. Then he worked out that superman could destroy the planet, Its the only thing i do that matters..Hence anyone dying as a result of getting to that goal became fine. I think he only killed in that movie. Alfred saying "new rules" as batman was branding people would seem like a cake walk if he was murdering them ll the time
The horse is there because a lot of major cities have police horses instead of motorcycle cops. Horses can get up around traffic and on sidewalks/down alleys. Metropolis is based on NYC, which still has a major mounted police force.
yeah i know. i tried to fit it in the video but the scene leading up to it and after it made the video pacing a little slow, so i cut that shit out. sorry lol
The close proximity to kryptonite causes him to weaken, significantly. The bullet that exploded in his face was kryptonite vapor, that he breathed in, causing him to weaken until all of the vapor got out of his system......ei, he breathes it in, his blood stream picks it up, circulates it through his body. The question is, how many exhales does it take to rid the body of ALL of the air you just took in? This is why the vapor lasted as long as it did

Anything but this
Yeah, Jesse Eisenberg gave more Riddler or Joker vibes.
This is his son, not the original Lex Luther
When you watch Justice League, make sure it's the Zack Snyder version.
Everyone needs to upvote this
I think he should watch Josstice League first before watching the real one just so that I can see him curse the fook out of Joss Whedon

YES! Snyder Cut is an absolute MUST. You will not regret it.
Eisenberg could’ve been an amazing RIDDLER, imagine replacing lex’s character with The riddler, it could’ve been much more fun and fitting for Eisenberg eccentric personality
you mean if they actually made a Batman movie to set up this world first? 😢
I think Eisenberg could have even been a good Lex. He's a strong actor, he's got the look after his head was shaved. They should have just toned down the insanity
Exactly! Sadly that and the "Martha" bit made the movie look bad. I wouldn't mind Jesse being recasted as Riddler in the new DCU. He's perfect for it
I hate how people are too annoyed by that he isn't acting like a Lex and more like a Joker and Riddler, but they don't give a shift when Marvel tone down serious and powerful characters and made them a joke.

Hope that helps, as always Great reaction!
the biggest issue was that the studio wouldnt let the filmakers make the film.
They should have never have chosen to go with a middle age Batman when you start a new franchise.
Still small reasoning and terrible Batman
It worked for me.
Best Batman
It can stay unpopular. Batman is admirable because he doesn’t break.

Clark trained himself to memorize Lois's heartbeat with his super hearing to tell when she is in danger
I still call bs that he didn't find the heartbeat of his own mother but did so with Lois, and ALFRED with some Wayne tech finds Martha ez no problem.
@ that is a good point and another reason snyder sucks as a writer
You could also if you haven’t moved your hand from the lever re-pin the pin making the grenade “safe” again and not “live”.
@ Very true. Much as the “safety” is still in place whilst the hand lever is still fully compressed/“he’s just holding onto it!”
One of my favorite Superhero movies. Hate me all you want, you cant change my mind.
@@passionsquietrage The idea was good, but the execution wasn't fantastic.
@childishslinky324 But it wasn't terrible either.
I don’t know if anyone said it but the monster at the end they were fighting was called Doomsday, one of super man’s most power villains in the comics
Yes. Impressed and underwhelmed is a great way to describe this movie. Now watch Wonder Woman Next. It F'n Rocks!

A NON-SPOILER STORYTIME:
Although the "extended version" of this movie was as long as it was... the studio refused to allow for Zack to create his completed universe which would've ultimately answered all questions and allow audiences to watch them in whatever order they wanted just like a nerd would with a comic book collection or just like people do with the MCU (watching them out of order, and still having them all make sense, due to all the information being there scattered throughout). Thus, the following movies are missing which could've beaten the MCU if they were given time to breathe:
> Su*c*de Squad (the original script for the brutal R-rated 3-hour long action/thriller/horror team-up movie that was to introduce The Joker and a bunch of new characters that are all bad guys, including Harley Quinn)
> Green Lantern (solo movie + backstory)
> Batman (solo movie + proper backstory to how Bruce became "Old Man Bruce" like in the comics + Directed By Ben Affleck)
> Man Of Steel 2 (explaining more backstory, and much more emotional character development)
> Zack Snyder's Justice League 2 & 3 (Zack almost completed the 2nd film during production of the first one, and the footage only exists in his possession until the studio allows him to complete the rest of the movies. The 3rd film was a natural result of changing so much during the production of the already released films being released as they were due to studio interference)
> The Flash (the version that was originally pitched and not the version we ultimately got)
The studio in fact removed so much content, that in the next movie (Zack Snyder's Justice League), it was originally meant to be a 2-part cinematic epic, with both parts being roughly 4+ hours in length each. In the end, the best Zack could hope for was what he was allowed to create:
> a single 143-minute Superman movie
> a single 182-minute long Batman movie that was badly merged into a Batman VS Superman movie because the studio wasn't going to allow him to make a natural continuation
> a single but extremely worthy team-up masterpiece in Zack Snyder's Justice League movie (the legacy of this film cannot be understated, as the studio wouldn't even let Zack Snyder grieve over the loss of his real-life daughter who took her own life during Production of the 2017 version of the Justice League movie, and as a result, the studio just handed that first version of the film over to Joss Weadon who didn't even wana do it.
The remaining movies which ended up being removed from Snyder's control but were infact created for public consumption were the following:
> Su*c*de Squad (the 2016 version we ended up getting was so tampered with, it's barely a shadow of its former self. The studio even ended up getting a music video editor to edit the complete film behind the Director's back just before the films release. The Director denounces the films existence to this very day. You can find heaps of the removed footage in all the trailers, music videos, and promitional material)
> Aquaman (a hit with both critics and audiences)
> Aquaman 2 (a missed opportunity)
> Wonder Woman (to be fair, turned out to be a worthy entry if you finished before the final battle)
> Wonder Woman 2 (a commerical and critical failure)
> The Flash (another heavy missed opportunity that had good moments, but ultimately failed to do what it was originally set out to do in the original script)
That clown Whedon also hit back at Gal accusing him of being abusive by saying English was her second language. What's the matter Joss, won't she sleep with you scumbag. In buffy he was not allowed alone on set with Michelle Trachtenberg who played Dawn. She was 14 at the time.
TL;DNR
My dude.
As goes for your imaginary version of Michael Bay - anyone with half a brain, knows he's an actual competent Writer and Director. Case and point;
- Bad Boys 1 & 2 (Will Smith owes his action career to MB)
- The Rock (Nicholas Cage owes MB for his action career too)
- Pain and Gain
- The Island
And don't even bother mentioning movie that he's Produced but didn't Write or Direct. Being a Producer on a film gives you little say in what actually happens with the movie. Their biggest responsibilities are legal issues, shooting schedulling, financing, hiring talented people like writers and other folks on production, and lastly, commerical viability.
I actually really liked Batfleck, But they should've just had Vincent D'nofrio doing his Wilson Fisk as Lex Luthor and that would've worked.

@CaptainRockoBD I do that's why I am telling you should too.
I like my Alfred a little older... meanwhile Jeremy Irons was already 68 when this came out haha, he looked damn good for his age
I loved this version of Batman he felt more comic book and less real like the fights with him everything I loved I feel he is underrated.
39:10 "So this batman doesn't care about killing people right?!" Alex says, after watching batman kill several thugs during the batmobile chase scene

@karlfleming7182 I mean, being burned isn't necessarily fatal. At most, they'd be disfigured if not crippled.
@davidivaskovic Being burned isn't necessarily fatal.
Wouldn’t disagree with anything here. DCAU is PEAK DC media.

As someone that got most of my superman knowledge from watching Smallville I honestly never saw Lex Luthor as a crazy man. I thought that was obvious
Omniman is also the Yellow M&M

What I got from this movie, if a person who actively tries attack and murder me, then I should mention my mothers name because there is a chance that his mother could have the same name as my mom
The entire reason of Batman being who he is is because of his parents death, and to see someone who he sees as nothing but a monster trying to be a god, say that he only wants to save his mother that it makes him human after all, it’s just an added benefit that they have the same mothers name, which also makes it matter more because it’s also allows for him to relate to Superman in some way and that’s it’s meaning
Lmao my mother's name was Robin. Could only use it on bats but not for the mother's name reason haha

I Remember when people said this movie would kill the MCU
The directors cut bodies most of the MCU. So does MoS, but they aren't as good as peak Marvel.
Didn't kill it, but it also has nothing to envy them imo, specially considering what Marvel's been putting out now.

This Batman is the Batman that has been doing this for 20 years and has seen and lost so much that he is at that point of at any cost. The end when he doesn’t brand lex is showing that he is coming back to what he used to be. Superman’s death was a turning point.
