You just don't understand the cinematic markers that Zach Snyder uses! You're a hack fraud who probably fanboys over Christian Bale! It's so obvious that Lex Luthor had a back up plan in case Doomsday won you idiot! It's so obvious that I'm not going to explain it at all! Besides that ending was so awesome! It was awesome when Superman punched Doomsday and used his laser vision! So much more cooler than those stupid old ones! Superman barely punches anything in those!
Why did the ship even have the means to turn a dead Zod into a giant Uruk-Hai Doomsday? Does that come standard? At this point I'll just assume that after Supes died, Luthor was going to milk Doomsy's tits for precious Kryptonian milk and sell it on the Facebooks.
Its like in the Godzilla movies when they wake him up to kill a kaiju and it kills the kaiju and then Godzilla is like fuck you and still destroys buildings but still not as much as Superman
I dunno. Maybe he had some fucking high or low pitched doomsday whistle that got him to stop and run back when it was used? "here doomsdaydoomsdaydoomsday! WHO'S a good BOY? WHO'S a good BOY? You killed superman? Yes you DID! yes you did. Here's biscut!"
Agreed. I don't really like superman in general and i don't care for a new batman so quickly. It also has a bunch of other characters that maybe cool, but the movie isn't about them. There really isn't much in it for me in the actual movie.

Copperbeard Plot points weren't so much spoiled (well, they were, but they're so bad that I prefer hearing them versus seeing them myself) as the shockingly bad filmmaking, which I enjoy hearing about. That, and the now famous jar of piss from Lex Luthor.
But he also couldn't be Captain Hypocrite, because that implies he's guilty of the same behavior as MurderMan. It's just a joke, not a literal statement of fact. Jokes are often exaggerated for effect.
I know nothing about the source material, but the idea of a mere earthling without any superpowers fighting Superman is ridiculous. Does that come from the comics?
Feels like yesterday. I remember watching this right after I’d seen BVS in theaters. I was so pissed about how the movie turned out and this episode pretty much covered the main reasons why. Hard to believe that was almost five years ago.

The Dark Knight Returns’s ending fight with Superman works because Miller spent the whole book setting up their contrasting ideals caused by their different views and roles in a complex Cold War world, and how these two characters already have a relationship spanning decades. That fight had 20 years of in-universe buildup. Miller’s Batman is not a hero, he’s not an Iron Man. It’s not an Avengers type story, it’s an Old Man Logan type story, and you can’t put that character in what was supposed to be the DCEU’s first Avengers movie. You don’t put Old Man Logan in your very first X-men movie.
I would also point out that in "The Dark Knight Returns", neither Superman nor Batman wanted to kill each other. Superman was following orders to stop Batman, and Batman wanted to beat up Superman so that Superman would always remember that he could be beaten.
Yep. Rich was right about the parsec thing in the Han Solo movie, too, even though Mike scoffed at the idea. Rich is a lot smarter than even he gives himself credit for.

Here's the part that always got me with Superman. He knows. He knows he's fucking terrifying, he knows that what he can do scares people, so how he deals with that is to be the best example of Mr. Truth Justice and The American Way, he smiles at everyone, rescues cats from trees, talks people down from killing themselves because he knows there's more to life than that and that's what makes people like him, he's supposed to be the heart. He takes the hits so his team doesn't have to because he knows that he can. He doesn't show up when people are begging to be saved by slowly floating over them and looking sad. He would save them all as fast as he can, tell them it's going to be alright, flash them a big smile and zip off to help someone else who needs it.
Which is fair enough man aye, that's a smart thing to do, assess a situation before you jump right in; But think about if that scene was done in the Justice League animated show (which everyone compares it to I know but there's a merit for it) first thing you can bet that Superman would do in that show is start talking to the folk as he arrived, letting them know they were gonna be alright, he was gonna help them etc. Now compare that to floating there in moot silence looking as mortified as the people you're there to save. Y'know what I mean man?
Laverne Blaszczyk "it should only take him a tenth of a second to grab one person fly them half way around the world," Superman, at this point of his life, couldn't fly nearly as fast as you're suggesting. Even if he could, the humans he rescued wouldn't be able to survive such a speed without oxygen being sucked out of their lungs.
A couple of weeks before BvS came out, I just randomly realized that B and S both had moms named Martha. It was a neat coincidence, but I shrugged it off, because no official media had yet made a big deal out of it, so why should I? Ah, the innocence of youth...
That save Martha scene really piss me off especially when Louis had to run after him and explain to Batman Who Martha is to Superman and I was like Superman couldn't have said that himself I obviously knew Bruce didn't know that Superman had A mom also named Martha he thought he was saying that about his mom which of course Bruce will of course going to freak out but Louis being there made no sense that Martha scenes sucks after that Batman goes and kills people what the fuck!

I'm years too late for this conversation, but I have an interesting observation. Zack Snyder said that Batman not killing people is unrealistic. But, Christopher Nolan's Batman never kills, and yet those movies are way more realistic than Zack Snyder's.
With how many people batman has punched, he's killed someone, just not on purpose. But boxers die in the ring all the time and they have padded gloves.
@@JonathanMutsinzi1998 in Batmans defense hes bound to fuck up by punching someone a bit too hard and killing them. But even then he generally does as much as possible to not kill someone. Batman in BvS blew a car up in a fiery explosion and most definitely stabbed a guy. I don't think he was trying to minimize risk here at all.
Ironically, Frank Miller (who wrote many of the stories this film mis-adapts and references) hates the concept of "realistic" superheroes, or the "what if?" scenario this film is built around.
Yeah, despite being known for his "dark and gritty" interpretations of Daredevil and Batman, Miller never actually abandoned the fantasticism and humor associated with traditional comic book stories. The Dark Knight Returns featured the Joker riding around on a flying doll that shouted insults and spewed toxic laughing gas.
The fantastic elements weren't abandoned. Did you not notice kryptonite gas bombs, Doomsday, Batwing, batarangs, heat vision, time traveling Flash, 5000-year-old Amazon women, etc.? Nolan's movies were limited to the "realistic" elements, not Snyder's who FULLY embraces all the comic book elements. He even was the first director to not give Batman a black suit. The ridiculous, bogus criticisms of this movie never end.
jedijones Sure he didn't ABANDON those elements. But that's precisely the problem. He's telling this story set in "our" world (cameos by real-world celebrities reacting to the Superman crisis, real world chains, etc.) but without conforming to the real world's rules. He's trying to make a silly, over-the-top comic book movie set in a sci-fi/fantasy world while also telling a "Watchmen"-like "what if heroes existed in our real world?" story at the same time
"Doomsday is the key to all of this. If we get Doomsday working... because he is a funnier character than we ever had in the other movie." -Zack Snyder
If the story takes elements from 'The Dark Knight Returns' comic series and had Frank Miller as a consultant, chances are *Spoilers:* The new Joker turns out to a psychotic Dick Grayson w/a super fast healing factor

Henry Cavil was sitting there like "What the fuck are you talking about Ben, this is the dumbest movie Zack Snyder's ever made, and he made Sucker Punch."
@@frankmerker630 considering how their first Joker is gone, their first Batman is gone, Superman has stand up doubles in certain movies, Batman has stand up doubles even in his own movies in important scenes etc. no, not really. At least I can say for Star Wars that the actors showed up. I can't say that for DCEU.
I'm starting to think the Joker is actually a really easy character to portray, because not only has (almost) every actor that's portrayed him done an amazing job, but even actors playing other villains (Jim Carrey Riddler, Tommy Lee Jones' Two-Face, Jesse Eisenberg's Lex Luthor, Ewan McGregor in the Birds of Prey movie) seem to do a good job at playing the Joker as well. Maybe it's just not a difficult role to play in the slightest (and yet somehow Jared Leto managed to fuck it up)
I think it's because joker as a character is really flexible and most professional actors can find a way to interpret him in a manner that fits their acting style.
Just put on something purple even it’s just a tank top, then paint your face with a hint of green in your hair, laugh maniacally in a high pitch for no reason while maybe throwing in a George Orwell Quote and then have your mom make you a joker costume
"Corny Christopher Reeve Superman cannot exist in 2016" But hasn't Marvel largely proven that somewhat wrong with Chris Evan's Captain America? Even in 2016 not everyone is a dark souled cynic. Marvel understood that dichotomy and has given us what should be the Batman/Superman character split in Iron Man/Captain America. And made it work in a believable modern way, without sacrificing the "nice" and the "corniness" of the character. Snyder is just a hack with nothing but dark imagery in his head. (mostly dark blue)
Steve Rogers has no powers compared to Superman. He has the exact same gift as the Batman... the ability to indulge in self-righteousness and certainty because of his own limited power to impose it on others. The lack of great power, allows him to be irresponsibly absolute with limited consequences. It's a false- and frightening- equivalence to suggest Superman should inspire in the way Rogers does. Rogers with Superman's power is terrifying and it's horrifying to imagine people wanting a being of that power to pander to them in the same way.
So instead of actually acknowledging the overall optimistic spirit that the OP was referencing in 70's Superman and MCU Captain America, you decide to insult Steve and find whatever negative thing you can over-exaggerate just to try and enhance your false point? Steve may not have great power like Clark, but he knows what it is, and does his best to trust the people wielding it and not the power itself. First Avenger and Winter Soldier shows this ideal at its best, while Civil War, and even Age of Ultron to an extent, show some of its more negative elements. It is foolish, or at least disingenuous, to say that ( especially after First Avenger's message that a good man doesn't let power corrupt them) Steve would be a terrible user of Superman's powers. At best, Steve is a mix of Superman and Batman: a righteous boy-scout with great morals(Superman) who can slide into stubbornness and self-righteousness (Batman) if pushed too far (like in Civil War). Clark and Steve are, in spirit, very similar characters who tend to be optimistic and idealistic. They are traditionally leaders and paragons that their peers tend to look to for strength and/or leadership. To compare them is very understandable, even in the films. In defense of Hobokitty (that's a weird image), they're simply saying that disregarding most of Superman's traditional idealism from the 70's is not doing the new films many favors and is using MCU Cap as an example of a rather corny character being taken seriously in modern day, but not sacrificing too much the corniness that makes these characters so enduring. (Granted, he shouldn't have called Snyder a hack).
I mean, the comics don't do this dark gritty Superman anyways, of course corny Reeves version wouldn't exist but you modernise it a little bit like Captain America has done.
I think another benefit Captain America’s story has is that he was frozen in time. He can jump into the first Avengers all hopeful and idealistic because the last conflict he was in was WWII. That’s as black and white morality as you can get. Think about how jaded he gets in between Winter Soldier and Infinity War, he throws away his shield. Snyder’s Superman grew up in post911 America. There’s no way he could be campy Reeves Superman without coming across disingenuous. The problem is Man of Steel is an interesting idea on paper, might have even been a good standalone movie, but it should have never been a tent pole for a damn superhero universe
What ruined the entire movie for me was how batman was baited into fighting superman. Isn't batman supposed to be a supposed genius? A master detective? But not Lex Luther somehow tricked batman into fighting superman?
I credit this movie and reviews of it with the widespread revival of the term "Idiot Plot" that Roger Ebert often used (not sure if he coined it himself). This is a movie plot that is not just stupid, but stupid in a particular way: it's one where the main conflict that drives the story depends on the characters being "idiots" in the specific sense that if they stopped to have a short conversation about what was going on, the conflict would resolve itself.
Exactly! It's insulting when people say this is "by far the best Batman we've ever seen on screen"! Affleck's performance was good, but he was a poorly written version of Batman who was psychotic easily manipulated dupe! That's not Batman!
Marvin Wade yes there's not nearly enough of a character or a character arc there to be able to even come close to saying a stupid comment like that - it's as if people went strictly with what costume they like more
Marvin Wade I really did enjoy Ben Affleck as batman, but the way the character and plot was written gave me a headache. There was so many "what?" moments for me I can't believe I even finished it

Mr. Plinkett needs to actually do a proper review of this movie. DC was boasting in a press release about how they were concerned about Marvel fan's 'not getting it, since BvsS was a thinkin' man's super-hero movie'. And uhm....yeah, Dawn of Justice did not fit into that category. Not even by the loosest definition available.

"Mr. Plinkett needs to actually do a proper review of this movie." If you guys can do it right away you might have some (tiny) affect on future DC movies. Naw.... I'd like to see this anyway.
Marvel does make dumb, forgettable, formulaic movies. You're right about that. Zack and these writers put together a fascinating story and screenplay in BVS that is so much more deep, thoughtful and intelligent than what Marvel does. The non-Marvel Studios movies like Spider-Man 2 and the best X-Men films are the only superhero movies to come close to this intelligence level.

Rogers with Superman's power is terrifying and it's horrifying to imagine people wanting a being of that power to pander to them in the same way. Instead, what does BvS show us? -Someone who could rule as tyrant... who instead serves mankind -Someone roundly criticized who could capture the spotlight to rebuff his critics... staying silent without ego. -Someone who could intervene in anything... who instead leaves mankind to make its own choices. -Someone who could unmask and undo the Batman... who instead offers the mercy of retirement. -Someone who could take the Batman's life for the sake of his mother... who instead offers his own. -Someone who is not beholden to human law... who tries to uphold it. -Someone who is not beholden to human governance... who submits himself to its authority. -Someone who has no need to submit to a boss... who submits to his boss as a human. -Someone who is not a human from Earth... who accepts his adoption and is incredibly human. If someone has that kind of power, I'm inspired by his incredible character and restraint in using it. It might be exciting to see those who oppose authority, compromise, procedure, and reason... and consider rebellion recommended... but Superman's power makes him an authority unto himself and his story is in how he refuses to force it on the world, not how he uses it to undo it.
@@zhengyingli I didn't say that superman should be inspired from steve roger nor steve rogers should have superman's power. I'm just simply stating that based captain america's personality is quite similar to what you will imagine modern superman would be, especially if you know superman from the animated series. Sure they are not 100% identical in terms of personality, but like I said they are similar, not identical. They’re both as heroic as it gets in comic books. There isn’t a hair’s breadth between them in that regard. Noble, upright, do what’s right just because it’s right, Boy Scouts, both of them. They are extremely similar characters. People who are focused on relative power levels are missing the point of comic book heroes. Powers come & powers go but moral rectitude is forever.
@@Arpin_Lusene And Superman would be a fearsome character with Steve's attitude. Superman can call the shots more easily, because who is going to tell him no? If they switched powers, I don't think either would change. Superman would keep doing what's right, with less power, and Cap would keep doing what's right, with more power.

Jgt612 That flood scene actually demonstrated a conundrum for Superman, that's why he was floating in the air surveying the situation.
Which is fair enough man aye, that's a smart thing to do, assess a situation before you jump right in;
But think about if that scene was done in the Justice League animated show (which everyone compares it to I know but there's a merit for it) first thing you can bet that Superman would do in that show is start talking to the folk as he arrived, letting them know they were gonna be alright, he was gonna help them etc.
Now compare that to floating there in moot silence looking as mortified as the people you're there to save. Y'know what I mean man?
Laverne Blaszczyk Whom to save first.
Laverne Blaszczyk "it should only take him a tenth of a second to grab one person fly them half way around the world," Superman, at this point of his life, couldn't fly nearly as fast as you're suggesting. This comment aged like me. Not well.
He's trying to make a silly, over-the-top comic book movie set in a sci-fi/fantasy world while also telling a "Watchmen"-like "what if heroes existed in our real world?" story at the same time
+jedijones you're special aren't you?

I’m just glad we can star a conversation about more gay men in politics, that would be very good for eveyone, because equally is better than bigotry! 3/5 stars
These reviews are better than the movies
Seriously they are. I’ve never seen the rise of Skywalker but I’ve seen their 90min+ review of it and it’s hilarious [to me].

Hi Max! Your awesome.

+Uptomyknees Where are your thoughts on this being a Superman writer?
Batman didn't want to beat the shit out of Superman to be fair.... he just wants to impale his face with a kryptonite spear!
yeah
Is that why he slowly dragged it across his face and took his sweet time with him.
+Orion Maximus Well first he wanted to "show him what it means to be a man".
paperbackwriter1111 Zack Snyder's Batman comes across as one of those kids who pulled the legs off bugs.
+FullMetal Bat He's like Horror movie James Bond. Likes Aston Martins, banging hot ladies, drinking and killing dudes violently while dressed in a halloween costume. He's kinda like the Casino Royale Bond, just with a costume, a hangup about his parents instead of his girlfriend and even more unhealthy ideas about masculinity ("fear and blood makes you a maaaaan").
Henry Cavil was sitting there like "What the fuck are you talking about Ben, this is the dumbest movie Zack Snyder's ever made, and he made Sucker Punch."
Watching this post Endgame really highlights how poorly thought out the DCEU was. It never stood a chance
To be fair, it looks expertly crafted in comparison with Star Wars

Frank Merker
The Star Wars movies were not that bad. They weren’t great but they weren’t terrible on the level of the DC movies.
@@croisaor2308 Well Rise of Skywalker was worse than this lol
@Stevo Ok dude bro man
I'm starting to think the Joker is actually a really easy character to portray, because not only has (almost) every actor that's portrayed him done an amazing job, but even actors playing other villains (Jim Carrey Riddler, Tommy Lee Jones' Two-Face, Jesse Eisenberg's Lex Luthor, Ewan McGregor in the Birds of Prey movie) seem to do a good job at playing the Joker as well. Maybe it's just not a difficult role to play in the slightest (and yet somehow Jared Leto managed to fuck it up)
I don't particularly think Leto fucked it up. It was a terrible script - edgy emo gangsta joker. He didn't have much to work with tbh
I think it's because joker as a character is really flexible and most professional actors can find a way to interpret him in a manner that fits their acting style.
The best not-joker joker performance is Wesley Snipes in Demolition Man.

You are absolutely correct, sir/m'am.
Marvin Wade yes there's not nearly enough of a character or a character arc there to be able to even come close to saying a stupid comment like that - it's as if people went strictly with what costume they like more
Your Grace that's stupid. the point of batman is giant vehicles that murder everyone, you marvel fanboy!
Marvin Wade I really did enjoy Ben Affleck as batman, but the way the character and plot was written gave me a headache. There was so many "what?" moments for me I can't believe I even finished it

As a woman, I completely agree with Jesse Eisenberg’s unconvinced head nod to that bs fluff Gal Gadot was spouting. “A huge opportunity to show the strong, beautiful side of women, *finally.*” I don’t even know what she’s talking about.
@BK Beatty I would have agreed with you until she did the whole "Imagine" thing. I genuinely think those were her words- she's just that vapid.
She’s a no talent who just wanted to act and has never been told no because she’s pretty
I really feel for Amy when Gal talks about strong, beautiful women. The look on her face says it all.
you can just tell how fucking dumb Gal is - I wouldn't even be mad at her
Gal is a model. She got the role because she's beautiful, not for her acting ability. She's pretty good in her own film, but I don't see the top directors queuing up to cast her for their most challenging roles.

Very milfy
Every bit of this movie I see from trailers and clips makes it look like the most painfully pretentious thing.
You are not wrong.
it was.
to me it wouldnt be so bad if batman and superman and lex had motivations and weren't total hypocrites...they preach preach preach and then in the end just destroy everything with no regard for human life...batman kills some people...which goes against his moral code...if batman were ever to kill someone on purpose, he would turn psychotic...and evil..at least thats how I always saw it cause hes already borderline....
I like your choice of words - PAINFULLY!! That perfectly describes this pretentious movie... Snyder literally screams BE AWED to the audience with every single shot in the film!!
Batman Laughed Snyder gives us illusions of sophistication and that pisses me off. He should just go ahead and be the Michael Bay he is within, rather than giving audiences unearned moments that proudly scream "NOTICE MY DIRECTING!! NOTICE MY DIRECTING!!"

New viewer. This was the best review of BvS. Ever.
Yes, the scene where Murderman rescues Martha from the explosion was inappropriately placed, but at least HE knew how to be COOL about fire safety!

Episode 7 was too decent to get a Plinkett review. But then again, they announced the Plinkett review before Batman v Superman came out. I think nobody thought it was going to be THAT bad.
I don't think Mike cares enough about superhero movies to do a plinkett review of it haha. Star Trek Beyond tho? I can definitely see one coming for that.

Plinkett is best on disappointing movies. Everyone knew GB (2016) would be disappointing. The Best of the Worst review is fine with me.
The only good thing about Batman v Superman is that it gave us this review.

Rogers with Superman's power is terrifying and it's horrifying to imagine people wanting a being of that power to pander to them in the same way. Instead, what does BvS show us?
-Someone who could rule as tyrant... who instead serves mankind
-Someone roundly criticized who could capture the spotlight to rebuff his critics... staying silent without ego.
The relationship between the characters powers and their behaviors can't be understated since those powers have different consequences depending on the characters' actions. Imbued with Superman's powers, Captain America can't continue to behave the same and not have severe consequences.
@@zhengyingli In terms of morality they are both about as good as it gets. They always do what's right, regardless of how hard it is or what others will think. It's harder for Cap, of course, because he doesn't possess the godlike power that Superman has, but Superman also battles far more powerful enemies. Superman can call the shots more easily, because who is going to tell him no?
If they switched powers, I don't think either would change. Superman would keep doing what's right, with less power, and Cap would keep doing what's right, with more power.
