There is One Major FLAW with THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN
Btw in the comics Peter was never “nerdy” he was only described as an “outcast” and that he was “awkwardly charming”. That along with him being a genius ppl just came up with the misconception that he was a nerd. Andrews portrayal of Peter is honestly my favorite
100% he’s the most comic accurate Peter and spidey, people don’t like to accept that because he’s not a mega awkward nerd like Tobeys interpretation and in the comics Peter is obviously attractive you can’t tell me his rigid jawline and facial structure aren’t straight model features. Really shows you who has actually payed attention to the character in the comics and who just knows general knowledge
I actually didn't know that, I did previously have that misconception so knowing that makes him all the better as Spider-man! (Not comparatively to Tobey, I like his portrayal too)
truly? That's very good to know
Cap
@@nier-f9s Yeah, that's true. A similar thing with the original Cap before he got the super serum.
In the comics Gwen is actually Peter's first love
actually its Betty Brant but that never rlly goes anywhere
@@Greyfoxhound Betty was never an actual love interest. Yes they flirted but like you said it never went anywhere
As a comic reader, it's always fun to see reactions to Gwen in the second movie.
A friend of mine was destroyed, whereas my brother and I (both knowing the comics very well) already expected it after watching the trailer. 😅🤭
We're like "Meh, it was kind of obvious. If you know ANYTHING about the comics, you knew, this would happen!" Lol
@@chanceneck8072 as a comic book reader, I expected it with all the set pictures, thanks to her outfit which is the same as in the comic. They messed up with this, it was surely the only outfit not to be replicated due to spoilers.
@@chanceneck8072 I’m hoping he’s ahead when I type this but yeah I knew about it but didn’t think they would actually do it
The best way to describe Peter is “awkardly charming”. Andrew does that perfectly imo. Great casting
also insane actor. man...he makes you feel what he feels not many can do that.

In the comics Peter was never ugly. He was always a handsome man with an awkward but a little dickish personality. I think Andrew captures these aspects perfectly. The skateboarding and his clothing choices however does seperate him from his character in the comics very well and gives him a fresh feeling. I personally love this take on Peter's character.
Also being conventionally attractive doesn't guarantee that you'll be popular in Highschool. People will still find petty reasons to not like you especially if you're different and don't subscribe to the "norms" of Highschool life
In the 90s comics he's even more handsome. And kinda buff.
Peter was quite the ladies' man in the comics. Gwen. MJ. Kitty Pryde. Felicia Hardy. Silk.
Easy, World Class TikTok travelling circus act.
Also, the fact that the skateboarding was added because that was Andrew's way of dealing with his own issues when he was in high school make that bit a lot more wholesome.
the scene with Flash in the hallway where he apologizes and it just cuts to Peter in tears hits so hard, this movie isn't perfect but it has so much more heart than any CBM today
No
@@breesybird9207 yes
It is absolutely perfect! Bet spider movie objectively
They went more for the loner kid, focusing on what happens to a kid when the parents leave him at such a young age. He may not be the typical "nerdy" kid but more socially awkward. Personally I think Andrew does the perfect job as both, he is my favorite. Love his movies!
Thank you!!
Hands down Andrew is my favorite. And the chemistry between him and Emma just felt different and authentic
I mean they were dating for the two movies that they started in
These movies were actually a huge passion project of Andrew Garfield. At the time he was getting huge artsy roles that had him in talks at every Oscars season, but the second he heard a new Spider-Man movie was being made? He dropped all of that and auditioned. He’s loved Spider-Man since he was a little kid and put his entire heart and soul into the role and it shows.
Which honestly is hurtful since they considered andrew for multiple movies in the mcu and got scrapped, people hate his films and when his only redemption was years later in NWH

"His dad worked for Oscorp?" Actually, it turns out in the comics that Dr Richard Parker (and his wife) were both deep-cover S.H.I.E.L.D. agents investigating malfeasance inside Oscorp, which is why they were murdered.
As others have already said in the comments. There have been many versions of Peter Parker, but he most definitely was not classified as being super nerdy or unattractive in the comic books. He was intelligent especially in science, but he was more of an outcast/loner than a nerd. He does his own thing and was more socially awkward, which is why if you want to say COMIC BOOK ACCURATE Peter Parker and Spider-Man it’s definitely Andrew Garfield!!
I grew up with Tobey’s version of Spider-Man, but even I know that it was not comic book accurate. They did change up some things like webs coming out of him organically. But I still watched and loved it.
Tom’s version is way more balanced and honestly his movies have the better story telling and writing compared to the others.
However, I related to Andrew’s version more and it felt a little more down to earth and at time dark too. I love the cast and well the love story/chemistry between Peter and Gwen is so much better tbh. Ohh and yes Gwen came before MJ in the comics.
i agree whole heartedly brother , preach
Totally agree with you on everything
Yeah, I'm so tired of people being convinced that Toby's version is the accurate one, when in fact it is most inaccurate out of 3 of them(still like the second movie, thought)
@@LiveFromhEll facts! They're good movies but they're really not that accurate. Annoys me so much when people try to shit on the other movies trying to claim they're inaccurate.
When the comics started, Peter Parker was a nerd, an outcast, and he had no idea how to talk to girls.

@@oduinn7948 that's what your mom called me last night
The thing is in the comics Peter has always been a good looking guy he’s just also always been nerdy too and timid but after the bite he kind of got a confidence boost also a smart ass so this is almost spot on
It doesn't fit the "Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man" motif which Tobey Maguire did. This DOES very much fit the Amazing Spider-Man comics which are more brooding punk teen. And Tom Holland is an amazing Avenging Spider-Man. Spider-Man comics have a lot of sub series and are written in different manners. I think all 3 actors have very well defined each iteration of Spider-Man based on how those stories were written.
for sure! glad someone brought it up for him!
Yeah Andrew Garfield looks exactly like the amazing Spiderman iteration from the comics
There’s so many Spider-Man comics that you could make a movie about literally whatever and it probably happened at one point in a Spider-Man comic 😂 Trip to Europe, fighting in space, organic webs, super spy parents, you name it. It’s all got a comic
Yep, completely agree. I think when people say comic accurate they have to remember there isn’t one version of him, even in the comics. So all three represented and was closer to a specific interpretation that can be found all throughout the comics.
@@mitchkat123 yeah, even the organic webs thing happened for a bit in the comics too.
the lizard's original design in the comics was where he wore a lab coat. it was an easter egg to reference that
If I had spiderman powers, I would take pictures of myself doing stuff in my suit and sell it to the magazine I work for.....
Not sure if anyone else has pointed this out but, the school hallway fight scene with Peter and The Lizard was entirely CGI. The two fighting as well as the actual hallway. All the destruction and physics of the environment was all computer generated. It was really well done as most people don't realize it. It just looks so real
The crane scene always chokes me up; people helping other people just to be good. The people of New York and the city are such an important part of the Spiderman store and I feel like three out of the four Spiderman franchises we have really reflects that. No spoilers for future franchises, but the subway scene from the Sam Rami Spidermans and this crane scene are perfect examples.
This is what the Tom movies are missing. His relationship to the city. How he helps them and how they appreciate/hate him.
All the Sam Raimi movies had a lot of focus on the people of New York. The MCU had the least, heck most of his movies didn’t even take place in New York which sucks
The only scene in Tom’s movies is that one montage with the Ramones music where he’s doing street level chores
[Goes to audition]
“Great you got it”
“Awesome who do I play?”
“Uncle Ben”
[realization of dying in the first movie]
I love all the spidermen as they are all very different. Andrew is probably still my favourite though, some of the best on screen chemistry.
It's worth noting that Peter Parker, especially in the comics and old cartoons, was never an ugly/weirdo/loser. He was always a dorky nerd, but also always had some cockiness and wit. The swag/confidence always came after he got his powers. So the idea that has been floating around since Andrew's movies have been out that he was always too "cool" to be peter aren't really a fair criticism, at least in regards to how faithful it is to the older renditions/comics. But, to each their own I suppose. Andrew will always be my favorite, and I've found that so many people who actually give these movies a chance instead of just mirroring what other people say about them find themselves very pleasantly surprised!
I mean every spider man is different especially Peter Parker Spider-Man
I like Andrew, I just don’t like anything else in the movie
I love Andrew as Spider-Man just the way he moves and swings as him its amazing . It’s a different take but I enjoyed his movies . Love the reaction 💪🏽🔥
andrew garfield isnt actually the one you see doing that stuff. he pretty much only acted out the talking scenes and once the mask goes on they cut to stunt doubles and cgi
@@NewYorkFloridaMan Yeah, it was Ilram Choi IIRC. I don't think he was the _only_ double for Andrew as Spider-Man but I know he did a bit of the work and talked about him actually having to swing which is why those scenes feel so weighted and "real".
He’s the only thing I like about these movies
I like how they make the swings with practical effects
They made Spiderman look more real
You already commented this bro.
32:27 alex getting a jumpscare kills me every time😭 I need a compilation of them all
Actually, Peter was never really dorky/unnattractive in the OG comics, he was just timid and lacked confidence, something that lasted for very few issues.
My favorite part is when Spidey tells the car thief to not dress like one.
Peter’s response was pure, unbridled rage and a thirst for blood, initially. Somewhat the same with Tobey’s Peter. Which is why “With Great Power, Comes Great Responsibility” means so much to him. It’s also why he nerfs himself and has a “no killing” rule. He’s very aware that he has the strength and power to take on the likes of Kingpin, The Sinister Six, and Green Goblin all on his own, but he chooses to hold back to honor Uncle Ben and try to atone for his own mistakes.
If I had Spider-Mans powers to act irresponsibly with.. I’d probably go to a bar and make random bets with drunk people such as “bet I can hit the punching machine harder than you”
I know this movie gets criticized a lot for some of its writing/studio notes, but I just love its tone. It's hard to explain, but whereas MCU movies have a sort of standard Marvel feel, this one feels like it lives more in the depths of despair and heights of joy. We're giving time to sit with the characters' emotions more.
"He's not nerdy enough"
**cuts to Peter literally studying oscorp research files likes its last night homework**
It's also rlly funny how the ppl pissed off at tas movies came out of the woodwork to air out their frustrations on how a fictional character should be portrayed on this video..
I love how suddenly "nerdy" is a look now?? Like I thought it was someone well versed in a subject? Not oh this guy rides a skateboard? Too cool to be nerdy.
That wasn’t “nerdy” he was doing investigative research, every Peter Parker has been nerdy but this one least of all imo
My wife and I watched this in theaters. The dad of the boy that he saves on the bridge is that same actor that played a recurring serial killer on Criminal Minds. We looked at each other when we saw him and seriously were waiting for him to be a bad guy also haha. Glad we were fooled.

My fav scene in this has to be the one with Peter and the little kid in the car. The way he interacts with him is what ive been wanting to see in all the other Spiderman movies, but never got. Andrew def knocked it out of the park w his adaptation of the character.
It's actually the other movies that are weird for not having Gwen before Mary Jane.

In the comic, he didn't meet MJ until after high school. She was a model in NYC. The other 2 Spiderman movies replaced Gwen Stacy as the high school sweetheart with MJ.
Personally if I had spider powers I think my best course of action would be to become an actor for Spider-Man movies. Sounds like a perfect fit to me
Marc Webb is amazing, and people should NOT blame him for the failure of this franchise
They should blame AVI ARAD

The “shirt” the lizard was wearing was supposed to be a lab coat. It’s a comic accurate look
If I had Spider-Man powers I’d try to be the first athlete to play multiple professional sports. So like I’d wanna be a professional hockey player, basketball player, football player, baseball player, etc. It’d be pretty cool to be known as that one guy who was a pro at every sport
The person in the final scene talking to Lizard in the prison is "The Gentleman" AKA Gustav Fiers. He was almost Like the Nick Fury to The Anti-Avengers-esque group The Sinister Six of which Lizard was one of the aforementioned evil bastards 😂
An interesting theory I read about why this Spider-Man doesn’t have organic webs is because he was bitten on the neck and Toby maguire Spider-Man was bitten on the hand.
I really liked this take on Flash, he would've made a great Agent Venom, this new Flash, I don't think is cut out to lose his arm in Afghanistan and then bond with the Venom Symbiote.
You may say he doesn’t fit the nerdy petter but I don’t think you realise the amount of different Peter Parker’s there are in the comics
If I had Spiderman powers I would get paid millions to play Spiderman in shows and movies.

I don't believe for a second, someone with a literal Amazing Spider-Man sticker on their door has NEVER seen these movies before.
The major flaw is not getting a 3rd movie. Even tho they are pretty messy, Andrew deserved a full cycle as Spiderman.
I love the fact that alex manages to predict literally every word theyre going to speak juts 2 seconds before they do
Everytime someone describes who Peter Parker should be, they describe Tobey(NOT THE COMIC BOOK SOURCE MATERIAL) When you look at the comics Andrew is right on the money with this character
A fairly common trope in comics is if a non main character finds out the secret identity that character has to be killed off shortly.
IVE BEEN WAITING FOR THESE TWO MOVIES FOREVER
Fun fact, in the comics it's the Red Skull who orders to have Peter's parents killed
Watching tom's later, but this peter seems so realistic and i love how he doesnt really freak out about peeps knowing his identity. His first priority is always helping people no matter what and i think thats so inspirational, and he's so caring to everyone esp kids and its so sweet idk..he really sees people, and shows them that. Empathetic and shows it and uses it...that is why this spidey is amazing❤
If they fucking give us an Amazing Spider-Man 3 I will cry idc. These movies were fun af.
I do love how angsty Peter is in this version
When Peter falls in the box ring, that's the same gym in which Daredevil trained in the series.
The soundtrack by Sir James Horner for this film was epic, peaceful and enormously powerful at the same time.🔥🙏
About a hundred years ago there was a principal and superintendent named Webb in Concord, NC. They named the athletic stadium Webb Field in his honor and the Concord high school mascot is a Spider. I'm a Spider. Both of my kids are Spiders. The longest continuous high school football rivalry in the state is between the Concord Spiders and the A. L. Brown Wonders. It's the last game of the season and we call it the Battle for the Bell. Over 10,000 people come to watch. When fall hits, all the Spiders come out.
Basically:
Amazing as Peter: Tobey
Amazing as Spider-Man: Andrew
Great at portraying both: Tom (mostly because he actually looked like a teenager and his film's high-School actually felt like high-School)
And also the most accurate and most fun to watch to swing is Andrew's. His portrayal just really felt more natural when it comes to the swinging and overall combat/movement. Also has the most practical/natural-looking suit design especially in this first film (it kinda changed in the sequel though). I really liked this film and the sequel as a 15-17 year old teen when this was released and I didn't even know they weren't well-received until I was an adult. Andrew Garfield definitely didn't deserve all the hate he got before because of this reboot.
Yeah this is my opinion too. Tom Holland is the good mix of both, but Andrew is definitely the best as Spiderman and Tobey is the best as Peter.
I think his Peter Parker gets overlooked when it’s straight out of the amazing comics, Peter isn’t a mega nerd with no friend and no social skills, Peter has always just been reserved and low on confidence, and people who say he’s too attractive have clearly never seen Peter in majority of Spider-Man comics… (you really gonna tell me Peter can pull mj, gwen, Betty brant, Liz allen… the list goes on of women who openly state he’s attractive
To add to it we actually see Andrew tinker and create his suit and spider gadgets instead of them being a handoff from iron man or wisped into existence by Toby, this shows the resourceful and genius Peter that the other interpretations fail to deliver
he have seen life of Pi.....the actor(the narrator) of that film was a great Hindi cinema Actor who died due to cancer in 2020...RIP Irrfan Khan
In the comics Peter absolutely FUCKS. Every girl wants him😂
This is far closer to the comic than the first movies
I grew up with Tobey but Andrew is my favorite of the 3!
Now this is the REAL Peter Parker!!
At 27:30 that clocktower is the same one from the second movie it’s foreshadowing done by the writers because they basically already had the script for the second movie when production started for this one.
I feel like the reason Andrew doesn't look as nerdy as Tobey did is because nerdiness was really a thing around the time when Tobey's movies came out, the amazing Spider-Man is more of a modern take and modern days now we don't really have nerds anymore we have those type of people that don't really hang out or speak with anyone because they're a loner a little socially awkward, which is exactly how I was going through high school. So I would say Andrews take on Peter Parker is more more modern and relatable for people around my age and like me, but that's all just my personal opinion though everyone has their own
Peter also wasn’t really an unattractive nerd bar the first couple spidermen issues, majority of comics with Peter have him looking like a male model
That guy from the end credit scene was never revealed due to them not making another movie after 2 but I can't remember if it was theories or confirmed to be a villain from Spider-Man comics called The Jackal.
The classic nerd look isn't really a thing anymore. And I think a lot of people got hung up on that with Andrew. He clearly didn't have any friends. He was awkward around girls. Got his ass kicked and no one helped him.
Just FYI, the podcast Planet Money did a great episode about this called "the spiderman problem", in which they talk about the contracts between sony and marvel about how and why sony had to keep making spiderman films... and they explain how it connects to marvel. It may be good to wait until after NWH to listen.
32:27 The best part of the reaction is when Alex is at his best 😂😂🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
The small Knives comment is one of my favorite Spider-man lines from all of the movies. And this film had one of my absolute favorite Stan Lee cameos.
Are we just going to skip over the "Look Alex, it's a European mattress... Europeein' in your new mattress" 😂😂😂😂😂😂
This version is the most comic/Capcom accurate version of how Spider-Man fights
According to the director, Marc Webb, this version of Peter Parker/Spiderman is more the outcast type, not necessarily the nerdy one. Just because one is good looking does not necessarily mean he's popular. I know lots of good looking people who are still unpopular and bullied in school. Just my two cents.
It seems to come from a lot of outdated cliche and misinterpretation of the comics, the fact they say Peter is too cool because he skates shows they’ve never met your local average skater who more often than not is a social outcast of sorts or sticks to their crowd
Peter's dad is the marvelous Campbell Scott, son of George C. Scott, aka "Patton." Great reaction, Alex - we're almost there!! 🙂❤
Dude you gotta react to the second one next!!
I would watch Alex Hefner videos while hanging on the ceiling drinking iced coffee upside down
I saw this movie in the cinema when I was a child, I cried so many times😭😭😭
like I've always said, Tobey is best Peter Parker, Andrew is best spiderman, and Tom is the ebst of both worlds (Hannah Montana)
I think once you see the sequel uncle bens voicemail elicits a response more than his death in the 2002 movie did.
Imo Andrew has a better spidey and Tobey has better Parker. Glad you caught the Parker here looking/being too cool/hip. But Holland is a perfect combination. Best spider-man. Also Curt Connors was in Tobeys movies, his college prof with one arm. Probably would’ve got lizard if those films had continued.
You can tell this one was made at the height of the Twilight craze because this Peter is a brooding angry loner who breaks into his love interests' room at night.
This is my favourite superhero movie of all time. Insanely comic accurate (definitely the most accurate representation of Peter/Spidey), a lot of fun, and visually looks great. People forget how fantastic this movie is simply because of all the hate the second movie got.

The Tobey movies have, very sadly, not aged as well as I would have liked. They feel very generic and straightforward in a boring sort of way. They are iconic, but I dont often yearn to watch them again. And they came from the same era as the Dark Knight trilogy which has an insane rewatchability factor to it. I love the Amazing Spider Man movies, though, and re-watch them more than the Tobey movies. All of this is to say I agree with you
tottally agree
I so agree!!! I don't care to watch them either. They're just so......awkward. Andrew Garfield and Tom Holland just do it better. Did I like Tobey Mcguire's when it came out, ehhh it was ok.
But let's agree they r best in their universes
*Spiderman pointing meme* JED BARTLET?? WHAT ON EARTH ARE YOU DOING HERE?!

This peter and general storyline is more akin to the “ultimate Spider-Man” comic. He’s edgier and cooler but still a dork.
I love how Alex is basically saying Tobey isn't good-looking. Also, yeah, comics Peter was handsome as well. He was just awkward and lowkey antisocial.
If I had spidey powers, I'd do "magic" shows where someone comes up on stage and throws knives, and I try to dodge/catch them while blindfolded.
Why does everyone think Tobey is ugly lol, he’s good looking just not in a “hot” way
