“Seems like he wants to die” that’s actually Bruce’s whole mind set in the movie. He’s reckless and angry, if he gets hurt it doesn’t matter to him.

      @nattteo 2 года назад +292

I agree with you, he's super edgy the whole film, but I don't think this theme really hit home because we never actually see him get hurt. Like I get the movie is trying to be like "he's hurting on the inside" but my man is tanking bullets left and right like he's superman, and despite all the things that happen to him in the film, he basically just shakes it all off like it's nothing. It's hard to have this theme of self destruction if it isn't really shown. I think you could even apply this on a more emotional scale. Like he's clearly very depressed and having trouble emotionally, but we don't see his behavior affecting his relationships really. By the end of the movie he's "got the girl" and everything seems to be on the up and up, but that's not because he changed anything about himself.... it just, you know, happened XD

@@nattteo I hear you, definitely agree w what you’re saying. I think we do get small bits and pieces of that in the film, although it’s very subtle. Like when we see Bruce in the bat cave and his back is all scarred and bruised, or when he retaliates against Alfred like an angsty teen saying “you’re not my father”. Maybe if we saw more of these repercussions it could’ve hit that idea home a little harder. I personally enjoyed the subtleties of the film and what it had to offer, but I wouldn’t have minded seeing more of Bruce’s character in this aspect as well.

The thing about him being the “weakest” Batman is because he’s young and reckless. He’s been the Batman for two years and only by the end of the movie he understand his role as more important than this vigilante guy that scares people. He’s building to be strong and smart, so he’s not the best at it yet and I think that’s amazing.

Tbh I think it makes sense for Batman to not be super buff. In order to build a lot of muscle he would have to: use steroids, sleep 8 hours a day while eating chicken and broccoli 5 times a day. I could see Pattinson's Batman sleeping through the day because he is an heir, but how would Bale's Batman have a good sleep while he is a business man by day AND fights crime by night?

Weirdly enough his feats in this movie far outshine Bale’s fighting scenes in the nolan trilogy. You actually get the sense he’s a master martial artist I mean he barely struggled with fighting goons except for the dude who just blasted his shotgun in his chest. Batman easily overpowers a few guys at once. Bale just flailing his elbows around always looked stupid to me. Ben and Rob had far better choreography.

I think the ‘bad casting’ kind of adds to the story, with Gotham being a disorganized city with a lot of crime. A not-intimidating officer and a ‘weak’ DA fit that picture. It can make the audience feel helpless or frustrated even, the feeling that everything depends on Batman, who isn’t the perfect savior either. Kind of dark if you think about it that way

That was OBVIOUSLY intentional. We've seen Robert Pattinson in several movies that included love stories. He can play the "being in love" part very well and from Twilight we also know that he can portray intentionally holding back those emotions (while Bella is still a weak human). Also, the serum he took was just epinephrine/adrenaline (confirmed by the director). The double barrel to the chest broke like 3 ribs and just about knocked him out. He literally didn’t have the strength to pull himself up while hanging, or stand when Catwoman was attacked. So he needed a little boost.
While epinephrine is clear is real life, it was colored green for dramatic effect, similar to how the C4 explosives were all giant fireballs, when C4 is essentially flameless in reality.

So the cutting the electrical wire scene. I think the reason it is so dramatic is because Batman (not Batman, Vengence) technically died when he fell in the water. When he emerged, it's like when a baby is baptized. He was reborn as the Batman after rising from that water. Before, he was just a tool for fear. But he became a beacon of hope by the end, that overhead shot with him leading those people out with a flare is one of my favorite scenes in movies ever

Which is is why she was attracted to him. She was attracted to the mystery behind him, and that would explain why she wasn't big into trying to find out who he was under the mask. A lot of people get so weird about long runtimes in certain movies but I think this one is a clear example of why that can be a good thing; shots are held for longer periods than in other movies, especially without dialogue, but that isn't a useless device - it helps to communicate things subtly, build tension, atmosphere, blah blah, but it can also really help an audience to digest what they're seeing as things play out. And then especially if that slow pace switches to something really fast-paced - like the car chase scene - it REALLY feels like a change in pace, which just adds to the effect.

the "serum" is just adrenaline, i think. And he cut the cord because with the water rising, it would have eventually touched the surface and electrocuted everyone in the water. So while it shocked him cutting it, he did it to save everyone else.
A lot of his "weakness" is willingness to take hits. He's reckless and doesn't care if he dies. He has a lack of fear that ironically makes him a worse fighter-- not unlike The Dark Knight Rises. He only has a vague idea of what he wants to do, and is primarily motivated by anger and vengeance, and that's exactly what everyone sees him as, including the people he's trying to help. Hence the guy in the beginning begging him not to hurt him, and his reaction to the Riddler's follower saying "I'm Vengeance." That's when he realizes what he really is, and what he's done wrong.

Yeah but there are no consequences to him being bad at Batman; why even learn assassin skills if your suit is entirely bullet and bomb proof? Yes it was dumb for him to stand by a man that's going to explode! Yes its hugely convenient that doesn't harm him! That's what I dont get about THIS iteration of Batman. He's supposed to be realistic/ inexperienced (hence the crappy wing suit) but then he crashes full speed into a moving truck, bounces of a bridge and rolls away with next to no damage! Even Nolan's batman had bruises!! Another scene where there are no consequences? Well he chases down the Penguin even though he already knows where he lives, which results in a massive explosive crash, he 'catches' the Penguin and then let's him GOOOO!!! No consequences for that one either.

The fighting I understand, he trained in the movie. But being Batman is more than that, which I think was pretty well portrayed in Pattinson's. Besides, there's a lot of material to reference in the comics about a young rookie Batman that Bale's and Keaton's went over. Most of the women I’ve talked to have agreed that a normal human being who can overpower me is way more terrifying than the in-human strength of a comic book villain. In the theater, I literally felt the air leave my lungs. I think that’s probably why “the invisible man” scared me so much as well. It was realistic.

Other variants had him with an entire team of scientists who put his gadgets together for him. In here, he makes them himself.
I seem to remember in others, Gordon simply slipped him case files, and he did the work on his own time. In here, he's actually working with the cops and going to crime scenes. Not to mention he demonstrates a knowledge of forensics.

It had been a while since I was so legitimately creeped out by the villain of a comic book movie the way I was by Paul Dano’s Riddler. While there were some things I would have changed (like Batman’s failed glide off the tower, and a few certain aspects of the car chase scene), for the most part I was fully drawn into the story, the characters, and the world of Gotham City. We see varying degrees of wronged children and orphans with Falcone as the center. Selina’s quest for vengeance for her mother, and how she ultimately decides not to kill Falcone. Bruce’s overall anger and guilt from his parents’ deaths and what his father did to cover his ass and Martha’s. Whereas Riddler ends up killing Falcone and targeting those he felt wronged him. It’d be even more personal if he was the reporter’s son, showing how Batman and Riddler are two sides of the same coin in a way.

Like, that's by far (for me) the Joker at his cruelest, and it would show what an actual monster he is. I'm so tired of the "sympathetic" Jokers. BUT, to get to that they would need to introduce Dick Grayson and then Jason Todd. And I'm scared af that they would either stole Jason's whole backstory (like they did in Batman Beyond giving it to Tim, and with "Cass" in BOP or in the Snyderverse where the Robin that Joker killed was aparently Dick?) and give it to Dick or just....completely ruin him. Or erase him. So.....

I'll take longer shots of scenes anytime, when a film looks like this where every scene is shot to look like art 🤩

the reason him cutting the wire at the end is significant, is because it's the first time he made the choice to save people rather than continue his objective of vengeance.

I think my favorite scene was one Dylan skipped over. When Bats is escaping the police station via grappling gun, dozens of officers are just shooting upward. As if gravity is optional. Like their colleagues aren't standing on the staircase above them. Like, everybody should've had mandatory retraining on gun safety.
