  • Balance is an essential aspect of our everyday lives, affecting everything from athletic performance to overall stability. And, if you've ever tried balancing exercises with your eyes closed you already know how critical vision is to balance.
Beyond this, however, research has shown some really interesting connections between eye movements and foot function that play a key role in your balance. This means that by incorporating targeted eye movements into our training regimen, we can unlock new levels of balance and coordination.
Today, we're going to explore this research by practicing a 3 minute exercise focused on horizontal saccades - rapid eye movements that have a profound impact on our ability to maintain balance.
Many of our clients are often amazed at the immediate improvements they experience in balance, proprioception, and overall body control after just their first practice session and we hope you find it very useful, too!
If you are a movement professional or are personally looking to maximize your pain-free movement and performance, we invite you to subscribe to our channel.

Wow - at 71 years old, this could explain why balance while running on a treadmill is much more problematic for me than balance running outside, where eyes are constantly changing focused objects.

Do the saccades while standing only on 1 foot or while on 2 feet and then retest?

This really helped my left foot which is always wanting to lift up and then when I try to balance, the arch collapses in. But I wanna know WHYYYYYYY haha why does this work??

No. Test your balance on one foot or any other challenging variation, then do the eye movements, then retest your balance.
