Yay, another recipe from the Farm Journal cookbook! And especially another recipe to use up applesauce. I'd have to make these pies every day for a few months to work down my applesauce stash but it would be a help, haha. Our apples cook to mush so I can only turn them into applesauce, apple butter and apple bbq sauce. Glad you and Howard both did a taste test, the results tell me I want to bump up the lemon zest to push that flavor. Hubby isn't a fan of applesauce so if I can hide it, that much better. Thank you, LeAnne!
Thank you for tasting the pie too. I'd bet if you made both pies side-by-side he would be able to taste the difference, but in the end it doesn't matter because he liked both pies. I've just recently found your channel and enjoying watching.
I love the Farm Journal Pie Cookbook! This recipe looks so simple and delicious. Love that it’s made from your pantry. I might try it with freeze dried eggs so everything is coming off my pantry shelves.
Oh boy, oh boy...this looks delicious 😋 1600 pie 🥧, huh? You can't beat those old time pies. I'm going to look up your apple sauce recipe and butter apple 🍎. Thank you for sharing this 🙏 Howard, you're so lucky to have a amazing wife who cooks all these yummy recipes. Ps ALWAYS SAY YOUR WIFE MAKES THE BEST. 😅😅😅 Happy wife, happy home. 😊 I think he was just pulling your chain. 🤣 Hugs and God bless. 💦💙💦
That looks great, LeAnne! I really can't wait 'til Easter so I can start baking some of these sweet pies!! Sometimes, it's really hard when you give up sweets for Lent! LOL
I've never heard of this kind of pie before, but applesauce custard, YUM! It looks easy to make with simple ingredients too. Thanks for the recipe. I'm going to try this real soon.
The name alone got my attention. I had never heard of anything like that. It looks like something want to try. This whole collaboration can have me baking forever it seems, never a bad thing.
So glad for a pie that calls for applesauce! Sounds wonderful and so easy! Thank you LeAnne for another great pie recipe! Blessings on your day Kiddo!🥰🌻🐛💕
@@MennoniteFarmhouse Me too as I can my applesauce unsweetened as well! And it's just a good healthy food addition for so many things. Blessings on your day Kiddo!🥰🌻🐛💕
LeAnne, another great pie and another great video from you, expecting nothing less. This is a great addition to a pie library and I look forward to making it at some point. I love the simplicity and the ease of the recipe. Great Video! THANK YOU!
Another inspiration video, I will have to try it, I like watching your husband tasting, his response even when it’s out of this world delicious, I think it’s to make you keep baking even more pies! He is intentionally suppressing the Wow that’s amazing reaction! A smart strategy.
I love that you can make this without the pie crust. I am gluten free so making pies without crust is my specialty. This is a great collaboration LeeAnne. Thanks.
What an easy pie to bake. It looks delicious and I will be serving this for our Sunday family dinner tomorrow after church. Thank you and Kettle Kitchen for this awesome collaboration. Have a blessed weekend.
Ohhhhhhh I have some homemade chocolate applesauce that I bet would be great in this pie. I think I'll try it. Thanks Leanne. I think Howard just likes to give you a hard time. LOL He ate the pie.
hank you so very much for sharing this historic recipe. It is o old to be vintage . I very much want to try this. Thank you for the pie collaboration. Pies are my favorite thing whether savory or sweet.
Hey Leanne! Beautiful pie! How they baked pies before ovens - In the fireplace! Scoop a pile of hot coals to the inner edge of the hearth. Dutch oven. Place pie inside on cast iron spider (trivet). Cover. Scoop hot coals on to top of dutch oven. Depending upon how hot the coals and fire are depends on how far into the fireplace you set your coals and oven. rotate the oven 1/4 every so often so that one side (closer to the fireside) doesn't burn, also how I keep time until it's done. You can carefully lift the lid and check for doneness. I love cooking this way when we're camping!
Joan that is very interesting! Can you tell us farmers don’t go camping? Thank you for taking the time to tell me… we are so spoiled with ovens! Have a great day!
A historical pie! That's really interesting. You make it look so easy! I love pies, but I've never baked one! I think the pie crust kind of scares me off. Will anyone be doing a video on making a good pie crust? Or maybe you already have one done? Love this collaboration. It all looks delicious!
What a coincidence! I had missed The Mudbrooker's video yesterday and I backtracked after leaving a comment on your video only to discover his that was mostly about making a pie crust! Couldn't have been more timely!
I love the idea of using my canned applesauce for this. And I like the option of making it without a crust. What a fun cookbook as well. Thanks so much for organizing such a great collab. 😊
Another delicious looking pie! Oh my! I love hearing stories about the history of the different foods. To think this pie was being made so long ago is just so fun! Thanks for the history lesson and the video!
Very pretty. Will try this in the fall after I can my applesauce. I goofed with this year's batch, added raisins and they fermented, lol. Tastes more like moonshine than applesauce.
Eager to make this one! I think I have some applesauce left..eezy peezy... I love it!!! That pie crust looks good..I made a pecan pie this week and tried a supposedly easy & good crust recipe (they fibbed!!) worst pie crust I ever put in my mouth! LOL Back to the drawing board. My grandma & mother did not pass their pie crust making genes along to me!
