    Something so satisfying about bush hogging a field. Makes you appreciate a tractor, and a cutter. Cant imagine how much labor it took in the old days to turn a forest into a field.

    • @SteddieProjects
      @SteddieProjects  Год назад

      Yeah that’s what I think about every time I mow with it. Clearing the land back then must have been exhausting. A lot of sweat and labor go into a good field.

      @@SteddieProjects i remember dad telling me about clearing 40 acres with an uncle using axes. Didnt get done soon. They couldnt work out all the big stumps so just had to plow corn around them til they rotted. Virgin timber, so it was mostly large sticks,,,,

    Just found your channel last night, but I love watching the old tractors still putting in work. I just got a 48 8N that I'm getting ready to get back to work in south GA. Tractor supply has the complete air cleaner assembly for your tractor for $100.

      Oh nice. I love the old steel tractors. It’s nice your keeping one going too! I just picked up a original air cleaner for mine. There’s a local guy who has been parting them out for years and he happened to have one. Thanks for watching!

    Love it! That is a Bush Hog brand model 105 cutter, I have mowed some incredibly dense, over my head acreage with the same mower behind my '68 Ford 3000, my Dad's '68 International 444, and a newer (80s probably) Ford 1710. The fact that they used that chain from the rear to the top of the 3 point was a great design! I don't have that cutter anymore, but I am currently working on a Howse model 500. "Light Duty" is a misnomer when it comes to these 5ft 3-point cutters. They are only "light" compared to the ones that can cut down 3"-4" trees. But of course, having said that, don't replace your shear pin with a grade 8 bolt! :D

    • @SteddieProjects
      @SteddieProjects  11 месяцев назад

      Thanks I was wondering what model it was. I should do some work on it this fall. Lol! Yeah I’ve learned the shear pin thing the hard way 😁

    I have donkeys and goats so I'm thinking a new Holland Bailer and a side cutter for xmas.

      I love the old school equipment! 👏 yeah square bales are getting difficult this year, first cutting on the same field this year I got 15 bales! Compared to 115 at the end of the year last year🙀 if I can get two cuttings off it hopefully it gets better. We’ve had more rain since then. Thanks for watching!

    The nice things about those old tractors is that they don't depreciate and parts are readily available and cheap. You might be able to fix them yourself, but they will constantly need something adjusted, repaired, or replaced. If I only have 10-15 hours a week to work outside I don't want to spend 1 tinkering with a tractor. That, and no live PTO or hydraulics means those are best suited for parades duty IMO.

    • @SteddieProjects
      @SteddieProjects  Год назад +1

      Yeah it’s nice everything is so readily available. If you need to make a living these days with it, it’s probably best to go with more modern equipment. But I am really enjoying working with the old stuff, I am definitely a tinkerer. I’m sure ill upgrade at some point but running the old equipment is special. This winter I’m hoping to put a clutch in the old Oliver 88 row crop, and that tractor has hydraulics so stay tuned for that one this winter. Thanks for watching!

    No real view of the PTO shaft ... so if you haven't already, make certain to convert that non-live PTO with the over-running clutch adapter. I've been pushed through a 4 rail fence while not knowing about the inertial effect of a bush-hog on a non-live PTO. Oh sure ... people might say, but there's a disengage lever ... but routinely that lever won't function with a load on it from the PTO. The adapter is not expensive and can save your life.

    • @SteddieProjects
      @SteddieProjects  3 месяца назад

      Yeah I have the pto over run adapter, with these 8ns it’s a must! Thanks! the info is always good to share though so everyone knows. 👍
