Woo hoo!
Those turned out so cute.
Jami, I love this ❤️
Pretty Amazing
Jami thank you for the tip about putting clay based first and then milk paint. ;)
Most people, myself included, probably never realized just how much work goes into creating a beautiful piece...(in this case pieces)... so this was not only very informative but it also shows us how much love you put into each and every project!!!!... love you guys and thank you for just being you... most you tubers would put their kids through the ringer making them stay quiet and out of the way, but honestly, one of my favorite things about your channel is that you guys are SO LOVING and SO REAL, nothing fake here..!!!! It's the real deal. Thanks and God Bless.
Thanks for watching! Sometimes we have the kids be quiet but Jack can only be still for a couple minutes at a time so he’s bound to wander through a video at some point or be heard in the background. It just happens lol. Thank you for the kind words!
Ok, I’m waaayyyy old! I use to add baking soda with primer, and for color acrylic, or whatever was free or affordable back in the day... day!! I love how far it’s come, what’s not to love! Awesome, I love it all, thank you for your inspirational video!
I wish you talked about more how you prepped the furniture you’re talking more about the paint anyway thank you so much
Very nice
You have tainted me! I am not watching anyone else videos as much as I used to .....UUUGH I kinda LOVE all the things you do cause they are my style.
Great video...
Nice job
So interesting! Thank you for all the information. I just found your channel and I'm learning so much!
This are sick !!
There's alot of information in this video
I'm really confused about Milk paint & what it's for & what or Why do you put it over paint or on its own. A really good explanation would be Fantastic Jami.
Thanks so much !!
I did just order a bunch of stuff from you to try out but didn't buy any milk paint.
PS I Love a really distressed finish.
I am planning on using these tips to do my living room tables. This video was very helpful!
Thanks for the great clarification on all the whites your carry. I was trying to figure this out on my own and now know what I'll order from you for each piece I'm painting! Great videos...thanks for showing the whole process.
OH. MY. GOSH. I love you 🤣🤣
“It’s says it’s good for your skin... 🧐 Hmm lets see if it’s good. 🤔Also a lipgloss” 😂😂
Do you have a video on how you did the cabinet in background? The white with blue. Beautiful!
Just bought from your site chalk paint with milk paint brushes and clear and black wax I didn’t forget the wax brush , going to paint an old book shelf ....see how this goes you make this look so easy I will take pictures

Great video! I'm new to all this and you just taught me several good tips that I wrote down. Love your cool personality too! Looking forward to seeing the rest of your videos. 😊
Thanks Donna! Happy crafting 😊❤️
I've just learnt the hard way..up cycled full bedroom in Annie's Sloan white..sanded first, didn't prime. Yellow came through😐 I wouldn't mind too much as I like the aged grungy look but my daughter likes it perfect white..and it's her room😮😮 waxed finish, so fixable I guess..but I'm all painted out for now. Love your channel but we don't have those brands in Ireland. Must look into milk paint tho..love your channel, I've subbed🇮🇪
You need to write out this whole vide regarding this video. Lol. I am trying to stop and go back every time you turn around to jot down the differences between colors etc. help the sister out! Lol
Love the way you use your products like the bees wax! I remember learning that technique ions ago. Getting ready to do a chair with light blue velvet on it so I hope it turns out nice.
Nice video
I love this!!! I’m hoping to do the same with a lot of my current furniture. I’m obsessed with the distressed farmhouse style! 😍😍😍
Hi. I loved the result but still not sure the difference. Could u explain the difference btw the two works? Also i am going to paint my ikea tv stand a silver vintage look like as you did in this video. Could u suggest what kind of paint to get or which video of u might help? I am pretty naive in DIY thing but loved ur video.
Very informative and I really appreciate all of your tips and hints. Thanks to you and Zeb!!

OMG...u did it again..i love your furniture ideas...thanks for sofa info...
Thank you for this super insightful video, I just rescued an old dresser unit from the street and I was looking to upcycle it with a white farm house- rustic finish and, since it's missing the top slack I would add a dark slack stone on top. Wish me luck
Good Luck! Sounds like a great project!

The first 7 minutes remind me of Forest Gump describing shrimp. lol
Ha!
Hilarious
Can I use this paint on kitchen cabinets?
Hi Jami, love these videos really cute night stands 🙏🏻👍🏻🤗
Wow a lot more work then I thought
That looks great.
Thanks!
Great, great video and super informative. Thank you!
Alexandra De La Cruz thanks for watching ❤️
Very well explained. Thanks for sharing :)
loving your couch!
Thank you!
this video is a great video. Thank you so much for sharing your secrets.
Love this video 🤗good job!
I absolutely love your site was gonna pay someone to do this but i got this i can do it !! however my night stand it cream with gold edges going for a coastal feel ideas on paint and i want that chippy look but open to ideas thanks
Light blues and soft greens are very coastal. Especially if you distress the cream color back through.
If you want it chippy, I just did this video on how to achieve that with milk paint.

What is the bees was used for ..ths plan looking color , I understand about the black color bees was
Thanks Jami 🤗
Gina Diefenbach thanks For watching!!
I almost spit my drink out of my mouth laughing when you said, “ and it works for lips too!” I loved this video. Y’all are so awesome!!
😊❤️❤️
Just stumbled across your video. What paint brush are you using? I was looking at your website. And is this the brush for this paint. Going to get this color.
Thank you!
Hello from Australia
Hi!
I'm glad I found you, i'm on a project like this and I had questions about the how to. My remaining question is: in another video, a lady used paste wax under the following layer to help distress the areas she wanted to have the wood shown. Is the bee wax going to be used for the same purpose or it is just for sealing? Thank you, thank you!!
You could use wax as a resist. So if you put it on your piece and then paint where the wax is it won’t stick well and the paint will flake and chip off. I use petroleum jelly for the paint resist since wax is more expensive. Hope I answered your question. 😊
Can I get that look with just chalk paint?
any advice for us older DIYers, who's hands have arthritis? :) Love your videos.
We like to spray pieces too. Might be an option for you. It’s very quick.

I'm so glad i found you ❤😂😂😂
Ok after you paint the furniture, do you let it dry before you distress it with the sander??
Yes. If you’re using s sander you’ll want it to be fully dry before sanding.
Love those scrapers! I use them all the time on my pieces!
How do you layer different colors. And how many coats of each
I love this 😭❤️ now I want to try !!
My favorite color is blue with gray under tones. What is a good paint to buy for that color mix?
A light blue or more of a navy blue?
A light blue
@@JamiRayVintage light blue
I don't know the final appearance /finish might be appealing to many ,but not me. Anyway , a good video .
What would you recommend as a top coat for this same treatment on a desktop?
also can i add one more color of milk paint onto the white?
Add as many colors as you like! I’ve done several layers before to get an authentic antique look. On a desk top that gets a lot of use I’d treat it like a table top and seal it with Top Coat for a matte sheen and DIY Big Top for a semi gloss look.
jamirayvintage.com/search?q=Top+coat+
I have a very bright white piece of furniture and a want to dark wax it but very slightly like you did. After clear waxing, how long do i have to wait to apply dark wax?
Not long. They mix together well and if you get to much dark wax on you can come back through with some clear wax and it’ll pull some of the dark off.
@@JamiRayVintage thank you so much! I ' ll try
Love your work but I can't help but notice the amazing sofa in the background. Where would I find it?
It’s from down east. I got mine on clearance so I don’t know if they still carry the style.
Can do this over stain furniture or I need to sanded down first. Thank you.
The paints I use are minimal prep so I only buff a piece with 220 grit sand paper if it is really shiny. just to knock off the shine.
I do love them BUT You left me so confused as to what the the brightest white was and the best paint to use. I want to get some paint from y'all but I'm at a loss now. 💚
What type of white are you looking for? Warm? Bright? Cool tones?
Shandele Broyles fairy chalk mothers snowflake (3:50)
Second DIY White Swan
@@JamiRayVintage bright white then distress with a dark wax??
Those look really good!!
Julie Keenum thanks Julie
Why do you paint in your living space?
Hi Jami, I'm looking for a high gloss white paint for a head and foot bedboard. In a room washed in beautiful sunlight, the brighter and glosser the better. What do you recommend? Thank you
You could use FAiry Chalk Mother Snowflake. It’s the brightest white I carry. Then seal it with a High Gloss Polycrylic for the shine.
That’s what I would do.
If you want an all in one you could use a glossy latex but ai don’t recommend latex for furniture. I’ve never had good luck with it holding up for long.
jamirayvintage.com/products/snowflake-fairy-chalk-mother-chalky-finish-paint
A link to the snowflake if you’re interested.
Is it okay if i dont apply the wax at the end?
Depends on your paint. This paint is porous so it needs a sealer to keep stains and water off of it.
@@JamiRayVintage im going to use oil based enamel paint... does it need a top coat to finish it or is just painting and sanding it off enough?
Hey Jami
Do you ever. Get photos from people who Purchase your creations in their homes? That would be cool to see
Sometimes people send me pics. It’s been awhile. 😊
Can you build a tall farm table for the tall chairs? That would be amazing. I live in Wyoming and would travel :)
+Christina Kindler we are no longer doing custom farm table builds
Wait a minute. Did she just say to scrape the smegma off?
Question: how do you decide if you want to use wax or polyacrylic to seal the piece??
Alexandra De La Cruz depends on the look. Wax is softer, poly is shiny. If it's a high use piece then definitely poly
Jami Ray Vintage what about a colored polyvine to get a dark wax look? I want the look of dark wax over grey chalk paint but I want it to have durability since I’m an army wife and we move all the time.
Jami Ray Vintage also can I chalk paint over my dresser that has yellowed from a polyurethane
It could work. I don’t use it myself because no matter how careful I apply it I always seem to get streaks. Maybe test a small area or practice on a small piece to see if you like the results first.
Yes you can. If it is cured you should be fine to paint without much risk of more bleed through.
Jami can you use milk paint over General Finishes gel stain and achieve the chippy look? I first want to hide the orange color of the oak so that when it chips you see a nice dark java color.
It should. You’ll want to make sure the gel stain is very cured and maybe even seal it with a top coat first if you don’t want to orange wood to show through when the milk paint chips. 👍
Thank you!
I have an old coffee table and end tables that my hubby's grandmother handed down to him(they are sentimental to him) and although there is nothing wrong with them, they're not the prettiest,I want the same look that you're doing here however, there is a section on the top of these tables(all 3 of them) that has an ugly marble top. Any thoughts/suggestions on how/what to do with the marble? Can I redo those as well or do I simply replace the marble?
My suggestion would be to replace them with wood, but, the paints we use will stick to the marble. Just make sure to clean it well before painting and then seal it well after.
Do you have to put wax on after the paint?
Nope, the paint is porous though so it will absorb things.
The paint your talking about I have never heard of them in Missour.
Can yo do this on Medal kitchen cabinets?
Most likely. These products stick to metal. I haven’t done it on cabinets though. Not sure of the long term durability
I have those 40-50 ‘s kitchen metal cabinets thinking if it give me another year or two to save for a kitchen remodel would be awesome
You say you barely sand the item, do you just paint over light scratches? how do you know if the finish needs painted over. thanks
We usually don’t worry about light scratches if we are painting since we almost always distress painted furniture. If they are deeper scratches, say, some kid had carved their name in it...we would fill that with lightweight spackle or wood filler before painting.
We distress two ways. Heavy distress is usually done with a random orbital sander and 220 grit sand paper. If we want a more controlled look we use a damp rag to wipe back some of the paint to the original finish. Usually we distress the edges where a piece of furniture would naturally have wear from things bumping into it over the years.
OH My Word! Tell me about that Couch!!! I Love it! Was it a thrifted find?
We got this couch from down east basics and it had a broken foot that Zeb repaired.
How long did it take to sand the top of one?
About 10-15 minutes.
Do you have to distress or can you leave it white with some of the wax?
I would finish it exactly how it pleases you. 😊
I LOVE these pieces and plan to do this with our bedroom set next week. I have watched a few other videos and am wondering why you dont use a primer before the white paints. Is this not needed for these paint brands?
No primer needed. I only use the high bond primer we carry if a piece isn’t real wood and so shiny I can see my reflection in it.
For those of us that are sound sensitive, could you please keep the click sound out. I love your video’s and just started watching, starting my first project today. Wish me luck
Thank you thank you thank you thank you 💜
Your ad for this video is Dixie bell paint ??
We don’t get to choose the ads.😞. It’s based off of your recent internet searches of related items. 👍
Jami Ray Vintage I will take diy over Dixie bell any day 😉
❤️❤️😊
Looks great! Are your paints limited to furniture? I recently purchased a motorhome that has a fuzzy "carpet like" ceiling. We don't want to replace or cover it. I wonder if it could be chalk painted? Thanks
Carrie Powell you could paint it but I think that might be a hot mess on your ceiling. @debisdesigndiary painted a couch with the diy paint I sell. That might help you decide if you wanna try it.
Your brave sanding over carpet like that.
How do you prevent to bring a furniture that has bedbugs in to you house.??Do you do something before. That’s one thing that scared me thanks
We’ve been flipping furniture for years and never encountered it once. Usually by the time we clean a piece, repaint it and then seal it, bugs are a non issue. We have ran into an occasional spider on the bottom side of pieces that have been left in garages but a little bug spray and a broom takes care of that.
What was the bees wax called from Australia please?
Sweet Pickins Beeswax
You crack me up lip gloss really ...that made me laugh out loud.
Louise Duhaime hey it worked lol
in every distressed paint tutorial i've watched, they use chalk paint, but no one every says why, or why not to use regular paint from home depot or wherever. so, why use chalk paint?
latex paint from the hardware store is essentially plastic and doesn't distress well. It can also get gummy or sticky after awhile from being touched. Latex is great paint for walls but not furniture. Especially if you're going to distress the piece as it just balls up or scrapes off instead of powdering off like chalk paints. The paints we use are designed for furniture use and formulated to be minimal prep paints. Meaning, little to no sanding. Clean your piece and paint :)
Where can I get the brush your using?
This is the brush I used in this video.
jamirayvintage.com/products/1-3-4-oval-round-brush-paint-pixie
What if my furniture is a lighter brown. It has that yellowish tone to it. What do you recommend for that if I want to distress it?
If that’s the look you are going for, great! On things I’m distressing I like as much contrast as I can get when I distress so that it stands out so if you want that look, the easiest way to do that is take brown or black spray paint and spray that on everywhere you plan on distressing before you paint with your final color.
Do you ever use a spray gun with the chalk paint?
Sure do. Here’s some videos if you’re interested.
