I think this is a good way to get that raw wood look without stripping and sanding, if you give it enough coats of white wash. I am going to try it out. I love all of your videos, I have learned so much
Thank you so much for simplifying this technique. I have been procrastinating for almost a month, a bookcase that is painted dark blue and I want to whitewash it. But I think as only my 2nd piece I can do this. Again, Thank you.
Thank 4 inspiring me ! I love the longer videos. I’m an experienced furnature painter & always learn something ! Love your smile & fun attitude. Go girl…. From Texas with ❤
Did this today on a textured balustrade coffe table that had light brown stain, sanded the flat coat and applied the chalk paint it looked gorgeous until I sealed it with lacquer!! It’s bad most of the white wash effect went away and turned out very glossy, I was hassitant on using furniture was as I’ve heard it doesn’t last and they need to be resealed after 1-2 years.
When your videos pop up I’m always certain I’m going to learn something that is REAL! Thanks again for having an amazing channel. I tried DIY Wife and she won’t show the color of her paints unless you subscribe with an email. WTF?
Hi Katie! Is it possible to white wash a piece that has wood veneer top using these types of paints? Or would I need to choose different paints/wax’s to seal properly?
In a dark chocolate brown dinning table do you do the same process?? Or maybe extra coats ?love both of them but the little table looks so cute..Also the cloth you are using to s a dry clothe or wet!
Nice!!!! Could I do this with dark brown maple cabinet doors? I'd like them them to be white, or at least much lighter. And would I need to sand them down first?
Thank you so much for this video. I love all of your works. I admire your skills and the fair hard work you do. Question: if my paint is not chalk paint but a good quality acrylic water based paint of a Romanian brand (I'm from Bucharest), should I try applying the whitewash technique? Thank you!
Hi Katie! I absolutely love your work. I haven't finished watching the video yet so apologies if you answer it later, but is there any need to sand the piece before you start painting? What if it has a varnished finish? Thank you!x
Hello!! Loved your video and style. I have a piece I think would look awesome with your technique. It has not been sanded. So my question is do I need to sand it prior to your whitewash technique? Thank you!
I love your videos! I want to try this technique. What is the difference between whitewashing and lime waxing? I see some do lime wax really heavy and I prefer the thin like you did.
White washing is done with a watered down paint. It can be layered up to the desired look and sealed with anything for protection. Liming wax is a sealer in itself. It sit inside the wood grain fibres to give a lighter look. If you’re working with wood that doesn’t have deep grain to hold the wax, it rubs right off.
It is! It's made by a company called Zibra. They make a bunch or awesome paint brushed in different shapes that are all fantastic for getting at those tricky furniture spots. www.enjoyzibra.com
I have a maple dresser that was refinished from an orangey maple color. My dad had used some natural poly in it but it’s turned a little yellow over the years. Would love to tone it down a bit. Maybe this process would work.
If I’ve used them with paint or natural furniture waxed I just launder them like usual but if they’ve been used on oil based products or anything with solvents in them they need to be kept in a metal container until they’re disposed of at a hazardous waste site. I try not to use those type of products too often and if I do I usually use blue shop paper towels instead of my washable rags 😉
I have several gloss pine doors ...they bother me a lot .Id like to get rid of the high gloss pine look ...but still maintain a wood 'look' ..I'd love a barn wood finish ...any advice please 🙏
I have a question, what if the piece was just bleach can I use shellac to spray where needed I see areas that the sanding couldn’t get out, and I don’t want a bleed through? Will the shellac be okay under the white wash technique ? What can I see it with I have a dresser so I’m thinking poly the blue can, or clear wax too I was thinking . Help help
You could try a layer of shellac but a paint wash may not stick to it well. Usually you want your paint to absorb into the porous surface a little. You can seal with poly or wax 😉
Anyone no,I painted a table top I think its acrylic enamel, can I do something to tone this down, with a whitewash can I use chalk paint or a colored wax?
What’s your solution for when you get pieces that aren’t quite level? I noticed that console table looked a little wobbly during one shot. I tend to just put a sticky foot on the bottom of the one that isn’t level but curious if you have a more long term solution you utilize :)
Hey Mel! Everyone seems to comment on wobbly pieces 🤪 mostly it’s the floor that’s sloped towards the drain. If somehow the legs were really uneven, I’d probably ask my husband to cut them down to the same length.
I’ve never worked with Annie’s wax. I believe I used FAT Wax on this table. It’s nice and soft. You could definitely try this technique on a darker wood. Have fun!
Love the whitewashing technique! So simple and so effective! The milking stool is just adorable!
The closeups help SOOOO much!! Love this raw wood look!!

Love how these turned out!!! That table looks like an expensive department store piece now 😍😍
Sarah Bolton, right?!? I could totally see it sitting out at Pottery Barn or Pier 1.
Love! I have been painting furniture and watching painting videos on RUclips for over six years, why have I just now found you?!? Lol
One of my favorite channels. Thank you so much for always explaining every process.
Thank you. 😊 I have been thinking of trying this on our dinning table and will give it a go
What a cool technique! It turned out beautiful I love it!
Amazing!!
you’re so talented and your videos are easy to follow
🙏💕
I LOVE me some whitewash finish!!!
Love the table , I think I wouldn't have white washed the top. The little wood on the seat would drive me crazy. 😜 Lol Sooo pretty.
Loving this white washed look and that stool is adorable!! Thanks for sharing😊k
I love your power pigtails!

Thank you Katie, I’ve done this technique today and I absolutely love the result! 🥰
These turned out so freakin cute!!!!!! Very neat!
I need one whitewashed piece in my home! Beautiful!
The best!
Thank you for your demo. Love the look. Can I ask what brand of brush you used? Thanks.
Thank you! I’m going to try the whitewash! Have you ever tried it on darker stained wood?

Great job. Love the white wash idea...gives me an idea for two newish wooden stools that I need to add some character to. Thanks!
Cool! Have fun 😊

I'm watching this one again haha I keep going over the videos
Hello! Love your technique! Is there a link to watch the process of that buffet you mentioned on this video?
Nice!!!! Could I do this with dark brown maple cabinet doors? I'd like them them to be white, or at least much lighter. And would I need to sand them down first?
You would either need to sand or strip them back to the bare wood, or you could paint them in a lighter colour.
Super easy, great presentation….❤️
Did you post your redo on your dining room table snd chairs???? I have a dark set and want to chg it all up
Well done! I’m going to keep an eye out for milking stools. Will make gear plant stands
Thank you so much for this video. I love all of your works. I admire your skills and the fair hard work you do.

Try it out and see what happens!
I whitewashed some shelves for a carpenter once and used good old acrylic paint and they were beautiful!

Hi Hi Katie thanks for all❤❤❤
Do I have to have a perfect top to washpaint
I sanded my table but it is still dark and stained ?
Thank you
Hi Katie. What's the shake down on this whitewash technique vs..actual liming wax? I want to try both but I hear the liming wax is pretty smelly
Can you apply white wash to dark mahogany stained furniture?
that little stool IS stinking cute!
Love it ,both are nicely done!
Hi Katie! I absolutely love your work. I haven't finished watching the video yet so apologies if you answer it later, but is there any need to sand the piece before you start painting? What if it has a varnished finish? Thank you!x
Every single piece is different. That’s a judge all you’d need to make for yourself. Thanks for watching ❤️
Love your videos, I am learning so much from you. I wish you would have shown us the waxing process. But still love your content.
Hello!! Loved your video and style. I have a piece I think would look awesome with your technique. It has not been sanded. So my question is do I need to sand it prior to your whitewash technique? Thank you!
The paint will absorb into bare wood more but you could definitely do it over a finished surface. Just go easy on the wiping 😉
What finish was on the table to start with? Just a stain? Or was there anything else on top. Te
Instant fan! Occasional garbage picker...lol 😊
Lol 😂

What if the piece of furniture you want to white wash is a dark black? What would you do differently?
Whatever’s underneath is what will show through. The rest is up to you 😉
Sei bravissima 👏👏👏
Do i need to sand the furniture down as it has a slight varnish on it
Keep'm coming Katie
is that a triangle shaped brush? could you tell me more about it, please!!
It is! It's made by a company called Zibra. They make a bunch or awesome paint brushed in different shapes that are all fantastic for getting at those tricky furniture spots.

Its definitely worth a try!
I love both of them also!!
Do you wash and reuse your rags or just toss them? If you wash them do you use your washing machine?
If I’ve used them with paint or natural furniture waxed I just launder them like usual but if they’ve been used on oil based products or anything with solvents in them they need to be kept in a metal container until they’re disposed of at a hazardous waste site. @@salvagedbykscott Thanks so much!! I appreciate your time in replying. And, I love your channel!!
Do you have the waxing video after?
I have several gloss pine doors ...they bother me a lot .Id like to get rid of the high gloss pine look ...but still maintain a wood 'look' ..I'd love a barn wood finish ...any advice please 🙏
Sand off all of that glossy goop and do a paint wash (watered down paint) over your boards in whatever tone you’d like them to be!
I have a question, what if the piece was just bleach can I use shellac to spray where needed I see areas that the sanding couldn’t get out, and I don’t want a bleed through?

Katie Scott SALVAGED by k. scott ahh smart woman! Okay awesome thank you ☺️
Sooooooooooooo perfect!
Can you a white wash on the front door?
Hi Katie. I love the whitewashing demo you did, I want to do this to my dresser and nightstands . Great tip. Thanks girl😃
What is the water to paint ratio?
Do you need to conditioner the wood before white wash?
No
Hi! Did you sand the piece first? I’m guessing you did but I think I missed it.
This particular piece was already bare wood so it didn’t need sanding.
Do you use something like Annie Sloan wax ❓also would this whitewash work well enough for darker wood ❓
I’ve never worked with Annie’s wax. I believe I used FAT Wax on this table. It’s nice and soft.
You could definitely try this technique on a darker wood. Have fun!
Fave!
Hi ,can this same technique be done on kitchen cabinets
You could try
Awesome!
Did you finish the pieces with wax or just leave as-is?
They all got waxed 😉
Any Chalk Paint like Weaverly will do the same effect? Does it have to be Vallila white?
Hi! Any water based paint will work. Whatever colour you'd like.
What kind of furniture wax did you use ?
Since this video is 3 years old, I don’t recall but I’m quite sure that any brand of furniture wax will do.
Can you do this over furniture is covered in a clear finish?
I think the paint would rub right off, but you could definitely give it a try😉 happy creating!
Did you protect this table with a wax?
7:07 Yes, I did seal it with wax.
Can I add color on top after I white wash...in a different color
You can do whatever you want 😉
Cute
What happened to the cleaning and scuff sanding steps?
What did you seal the white wash table with?
It was sealed with White Patina Wax from FAT Paint 😉
What is your accent? It's adorable :)
I'd have flattened the legs sticking up on seat of little stool. But great work.
Thank you for showing us that it didn’t work the first time.
I thought your suppose to sand the wood first . Not just put it on top of stain and varnish?
🤗👍
I did it myself. I used Woodprix woodworking plans for this.
Love
Did you sand before applying the paint?
Not 2 crazy about this technique
Love the whitewash look
