I love your presentation professionalism. Thank you for your skilled pleasant voice, articulation, calm, and mature mannerisms. Your style places you above 95% of others offering chalk paint learning opportunities.
Thank you for mentioning CURING time. Most people don't talk about it because it requires patience, and most people don't have that. Many paint manufacturers don't mention curing time anywhere, and each paint seems to have a different time (not to mention local climate). They NEVER want to discourage the customer from buying. I find that if you don't respect cure time, strange and ugly things can happen. Also, priming: what an important step towards a successful outcome that few want to talk about. Most people are lazy and want to skip that step. A lot of people hate the word SANDING. The art of sanding well should never be overlooked or dismissed. You are a superb content provider, and a very talented artist. Thank you sharing.
Good tips! Fantastic idea on damp brush with chalk paint! One thing I've found true and learned from a designer is to never shake paint, Especially chalk paint. She recommends you store upside down and always keep sealed as you do, but also I turn them on the side and roll them back and forth to get a good stir. Shaking paint causes bubbles in the paint which is not good for pure color transfer when painting.
Hi Christina, I have watched hundreds of videos and nobody explains things better then you . Nobody has your simplicity of visual tutoring like you do . Nobody has your warm voice and flair of the flow. My project will be my living room floor that is 99 years old coming to the conclusion that the best way to renew this floor is to chalk paint it using a blend method of two colors . As you said if you screw up you can always repaint it .
You have such a calming voice. I have a sold dark wood chest of drawers that I want to paint. After cleaning it thoroughly do you suggest I sand it lightly before priming?
First time I have seen EVERYTHING I needed to know in one video - THANK YOU! - fellow BC lady!!! I have watched tons of videos on chalk paint with Annie Sloan herself, ("on no, you don't need to prime" - really, Annie??)and lots of other videos from ladies in the painting world - and have finished alot of furniture myself, sanding, stripping, swearing - yes swearing - and staining. Having finally pried open a can of chalk paint for the first time, I painted one coat on my beautiful vintage drop leaf storage table, found bleed through so now I've sanded and primed - waiting for it to dry for a day or so, then, armed with my spray bottle and new brush, I will be re-watching your video and attempting to finish my table! Thank you!!!! Soooo helpful!
Oak is a hard one. Because the oily knots come through. Best to prime oak furniture for sure. Chalk paint will not cover it and it bleeds through. So I’d like to know if a good primer as well
Thank you for sharing. I am at the right place. I’m realizing I don’t know very much about refinishing furniture. I now know where to find the answers. I’m so happy to find your videos.
#8 THANK YOU. I understand that many people are trying to sell the brands or are very brand loyal but this is the first video that says flat out "mix and match!" I'm new to this so I'm watching lots of videos trying to figure out what brands and colors to choose. I also would like to know how well top coats and different finishes mix across brands. off to watch more of your channel!

I have been interested in redoing furniture for quite some time now, but have never worked with chalk paint. I saw this video and I think you may have just saved me from a lot of heartache! Thank you so much. I have been to B.C. and just loved it there. My sisters and I had a sisters vacation to Victoria and just really enjoyed it.
This tutorial was as close to perfect as you could get. No nonsense, the don'ts and the why. Plain and simple. I love videos that get straight to the point without all the extra fluff. I am tackling two wingback chairs; this will be my first furniture paint project. Sure, I could have started with something small, but I'm a go-big or stay-home kind of lady, so let the painting begin. Worse case, there is an upholstery shop just a few clicks away. lol
Excellent presentation! A couple points I want to remember are: Don’t mix tap water in the paint. Don’t wax b4 painting & more. I love the fact that you stress that if you don’t like the end product, the color of the paint, or whatever, it’s no big deal ....it can be done over. thanks for that!
Yes that was tip number six that was one of my favorites, A big yay! and not sticking a dry brush directly into The chalk paint. I’m redoing a table to use in my office for my desk and my first time I ever do anything like this so like someone else said I learned everything we needed video❤️
I just did that. was so happy to start painting my vintage vanity and now i am disappointed.. its way too bleh light grey with cream under. then i added of all things dark wax and now it looks like it was soaked in tea :-( i had to walk away
I must tell you I watched your post on washing furniture you did an old oak dining table and washed rubbed and ragged and the water spray bottle was a good save as I'm painting in south Africa and tge paint dries super fast you made my day and got the task done an excellent totorial well done you rock and don't stop your the bomb xxxx
Hi Christina! I love your videos, particularly this one, because I'm gonna start a small project and I was not sure whether I could mix different colors. I know the best I can do is to marathon all your videos on that! Starting now 🤩 Thanks a lot!
You certainly have put my mind at ease. I have several pieces of older furniture that I want to chalk paint but have actually been too anxious to begin, thinking they may be ruined or the colors will not be as I had hoped. I can redo them! Such practical, good tips and even your voice is soothing. I compare this new undertaking to trying computers over 20 yrs ago, thinking I would break the machine or wipe all good work away. Looking forward to seeing more of your videos. Thank you, Christina. I just subscribed & I see a big light at the end of the tunnel.
Can I use this on wall panelling ( new ) I'm so tired of commercial paint that here in France is about 75 euros for 2,5 litres that need sometimes three coats, it makes painting really expensive. Primer paint is just as expensive and I have a horrible memory of that. One year with a friend we took apart her dated oak kitchen, scrubbed it, sanded it, primed it, rubbed it down each time then gave it more than two coats and it just chipped and rubbed at once, not to mention bubbles as if we were painting on oil. If I had know chalk paint then it would have helped. I've not seen it used on walls yet ?
I love this video. I wish I had watched it *before* I started chalk painting some oak kitchen cabinets that had pretty good coat of varnish on them. I've painted all of them with one coat of Annie Sloan Chalk paint original white. A few of the drawers I have painted a second time. But they still end of looking distressed and not super white. I'm thinking about doing sanding the cabinets down, applying primer to all of them and the then painting the last coat. I will say, adding water to the paint does help a lot. I think my first coat was too thick. Do you think adding the primer and sanding will help?
Thanks for having a nice soothing voice and being professional and not trying to instruct while talking about yourself or kids running thru and all that other jazz. That stuff drives me nuts. Great tips and definitely subscribing 💖

Thanks for this info. I've painted over wax and nothing happened. Good to know it can be a problem. Question: Do you paint your walls with chalk paint? Do you wax over it?
Oh my goodness, be still my ❤️ where have you been all my life lol I just love you! My pieces have ok but I’ve been doing it all wrong. Thank you so much ! Can’t wait to see all of your videos. Great advice! So glad I finally found you !
Ur information was absolutely great. U informed hope many things in regards to chalk paint. I knew about the spray bottle but had no idea about adding water to it from ur tap. Great info. By the way has anyone ever told u that u have a very nice voice. It’s very soothing. Many thanks 😊👍
I just found this...and thank goodness I did! I am about to do my very first chalk paint project on an antique Hoosier cabinet that belonged to my mother. It has several coats of paint and I have been advised that stripping it will most likely be a much bigger job than I originally thought. I think these tips will help tremendously!
A most enjoyable anD wonderfully executed presentation Thank you. I have just got into chalk painting as a hobby so your tips were invaluable. I have subscribed as I need to watch the series from the beginning. Best wishes from London UK.
Hi Stephen!! Welcome to my channel!! So glad you subscribed! I have my previous videos on playlists sorted by techniques which may help you to start out with!! If you have questions please reach out! Thanks again for your support to my channel! 🇬🇧🇨🇦❤️🎨🙏
Hi Christina, what kind of top coat should I use after chalk paint but prior glaze, wash etc? I've been using bees wax prior glazing and now I'm wondering if that was a mistake? Thank you!
Hi Susanne! I wouldn’t recommend using bees wax poor to glazing , but not to worry! I always use any top coat product ( lacquer, clear wax , hemp oil etc) after any glazing or colour wash etc. I have definitely made the same error on my earlier projects!! 😉 I remember now by thinking 🤔 top is the last step after anything else ❤️❤️🎨 Excellent question! 👌 I hope this helps 🤗
@@TheReclaimedHeirloom I am having difficulty with glaze and wash as I find it stains the chalk paint, which is why I put wax prior, but perhaps it's because the rag I use is dry...I see you use a wet rag to remove some. Also, bees wax is not recommenced with chalk paint? I love your vidéos they are so helpful!
Thank you Christina. Love watching your videos and learning from you - also live in BC where the weather can be extreme 😊 I have been having fun with furniture, but would like to do a wall. A vintage Paris wall. I’ve noticed a beautiful wall in the back ground of some of your finished projects. Did you paint your wall , and if so , do you have a video of the project? Thanks again for you fun and informative videos. You rock 🤗
Thank you so much Barbra 🙏💙 for your kind comment and cheers to my BC neighbour 🤗 I plan to make a few mire tutorials on how to create fun wall textures ( plaster layering ) I love old world looks and o know what your thinking . This was my first wall paint tutorial and wanted to see if subscribers had value to it so your feedback really helps 🙏💙🎨
Christina I loved ur episode. Your video is so helpful I can't wait to paint my old furniture. It's so important to know the dont's than the do's. Very well explained. thank u so much Christina.
your video popped up, I first thought you'd be too classy for me, then you winked. You are real and very very helpful! lol thanks! look forward to more of your videos!!!
I understand that to be true too. Why would anyone sell a piece of furniture and tell the buyer “oh by the way, you will need to apply a special wax a few times a year.”
I have just come across this video and I am happy for that. Thank you for your clear, thorough and precious tips! When you mention mixing chalk paint, is it advisable to mix acrylic paint with chalk paint to add some colour? Sometimes it would be just a dab of acrylic which comes in tubes to mix with chalk paint base (white/neutral).
Thank you, Christina, so much for all your wonderful videos and instructions. I’m in the process of repainting a piece I wasn’t happy with. Cleaned off the wax with mineral spirits, rinsed with water, then sanded. Is there any thing else I should do before repainting to make sure the wax doesn’t cause adhesion issues? Should I prime?
Hi Bianca You should be good to go! I have painted over many pieces that I have previously painted with chalk paint and wax. Painting over chalk paint no problem!! And as long as the wax is removed at least most of it you are good to go for a new makeover 🤗💙🎨
Very helpful guide. About to start my first chalk paint project, a small book case. I hadn't planned on priming but I will now. Considering temperature and drying time, I will paint inside the house and not in the garage.
Great informative video! What kind of sand paper do you recommend for working on a table and chairs? I want to strip the black green paint and turn it white. Also is dish soap enough to remove and clean old furniture?
Yes you can use a less coarse grit like 120 or 220 to lightly scuff the paint off, if you want it all off then try a more coarse grit sandpaper like 80 grit. yes dish soap is fine to clean your furniture. I hope you like today's new video! ❤️🎨🙏
💐Hello Christina... Great Video, I really appreciate these videos because their are many things you are telling us that I had to learn the hard way and it can be quite frustrating to say the least.... I have a few questions: Have you ever used liming wax on any of your projects? If you have, can you use two paints and then use the liming wax? Let me kind of explain what I am doing. My colors in my home will be Black, Antique White or Beige with accents of Red, I purchased a Gorgeous China Cabinet and my thinking was to color it first (after the primer of course), a red then paint over that in black, sand it around the edges to let a little of the red come through and then finally, use the liming wax and lastly do a wax or polyurethane.. I hope I am explaining this in a way that you can picture what I am thinking about doing. Mostly, I just want to know if using red under the black is going too far? Or, Should I use the Antique White in place of the red and just use accents of red in my decor or Visa Versa, go with red and use Antique White as an accent? Our home that my husband is building is a Cabin done in Pine and our roof is a brighter red. I am also thinking of just painting it black and using the liming wax only. What to do, right.... I thank you for letting us ask you these painting and decor questions, it will help so much! By the way, I am 65 and this is my very first home that we saved for and it will be paid for in full, so everything I am doing is very important to me and I want it to look really nice and cozy.... 🌺Blessings to You Christina.... Your Friend, Marley
Hi Just a fellow fan😊 I just want to jump in and mention wax is always last... you should not add poly after traditional waxes... I’ve heard Liming wax may be different.. check instructions... Good Luck with your new home... sounds amazing😊🌟
@@kimberlydrake8654 💐 Hi Kimberly.... The waxing part is a question I thought of after I had already sent the message so thank you for bringing that to my attention. I watched a video of the liming process but I could not remember if the woman waxed after liming or used polyurethane.... Thank you Kimberly, it is so nice to meet you here online and I really appreciate your input on this project.... 🌺 Have an Awesome Day! Marley
Hello, thanks for your lovely videos, I recently did my whole bedroom and I’m very happy about it except for one piece. After painting and waxing, the paint was coming off or easily scratched. Why?
Great info! I live in sunny Florida and try to paint in the garage on occasion. I don’t recommend it if it can be avoided. Some pieces are just too large to schlep into the house. So glad you mentioned water in paint jars. I have one that I must have done that with and - just wow! Not pleasant to open. I assumed that was the issue, but now you have confirmed my suspicion. Have a wonderful week! 😁
I have saved every episode of your series for Chalk Paint 101, always referring back. ✔👌 I have enjoyed these so much! Thank you! Looking back though, wish this would have been one of the first ones, only because I was a wreck newbie.😜 I'm grateful to have the information you share. Also thankful this isn't a course for pass/fail. 😁😉
Thank you for your video. I recently bought my first can of chalk paint to cover a large plastic mirror frame. I'm now on the third layer to really cover the black frame. It's covered pretty well, but I wish that I had seen this video prior so that I would have done a little sanding first.
This was a great presentation thank you! I am painting a marble fireplace with chalk paint. On the second coat I used a roller. It shows. Do you recommend doing another coat on top with a wet brush as you say here or lightly sand first?
Thanks a lot for this excellent recommandations ! 🙏 So cooooool ... I love all your gorgeous projects ! It s so frenchy 😊. You have the "vieille france" feeling !! 💙
I’m so happy I stumbled upon you! I love your videos! I need to ask, I bought a second hand dining room set and the chairs have a rattan back, would it look good if I painted it? I want to chalk paint the whole set but I’m wondering about the rattan.
I like the fact that you dont "waffle on", just to fill minutes. You just give us the hard facts, in a clear and concise way. Great presenting.

I am going to chalk paint my 1st piece of furniture. Thank you so much for all the great tips! I'll let you know how it turns out.
Ur information was absolutely great. U informed hope many things in regards to chalk paint. I knew about the spray bottle but had no idea about adding water to it from ur tap.
Great info. By the way has anyone ever told u that u have a very nice voice. It’s very soothing. Many thanks 😊👍
Hi Shelly!! So nice of you! Thank you so much! Glad you enjoyed it!!! Thanks for your support to my channel!! ❤️❤️❤️🎨🙏
I just found this...and thank goodness I did! I am about to do my very first chalk paint project on an antique Hoosier cabinet that belonged to my mother. It has several coats of paint and I have been advised that stripping it will most likely be a much bigger job than I originally thought. I think these tips will help tremendously!
I love these tips and find myself returning to this video several times again lol; thank you!!
Love the bust behind you. Where did you get it and did you patina it with chalk paint?
Thank you so much, Christina! Always informative! Love your channel.
Thank you so much for explaining about how to use or not to use chalk paint
Thank you so much! I hope you enjoy today's new video! ❤️🙏🎨
Great tips! Thank you! If I wanted to repaint something that has been sealed with wax, what do I use to remove the old wax?
did you get an answer? if so what's the solution
Mineral spirits works
Awesome tips!! I’m thinking about trying my hand at doing a re-do on my buffet. Wish me luck🙏🏼🙏🏼
I remember now by thinking 🤔 top is the last step after anything else ❤️❤️🎨
Excellent question! 👌
I hope this helps 🤗
@@TheReclaimedHeirloom I am having difficulty with glaze and wash as I find it stains the chalk paint, which is why I put wax prior, but perhaps it's because the rag I use is dry...I see you use a wet rag to remove some. Also, bees wax is not recommenced with chalk paint? I love your vidéos they are so helpful!
Just going to start my first project so this is very helpful. I am excited to start
Thank you for the 101's. So very concise and helpful. You are wonderful !!
Hi Rebe!!! Glad it was helpful! ❤️🎨🙏
First time tuning in and found the tips extremely useful and excellent presenter no time wasting jargon 😀hope to tune in again.
You rock 🤗
Thank you so much Barbra 🙏💙 for your kind comment and cheers to my BC neighbour 🤗
I plan to make a few mire tutorials on how to create fun wall textures ( plaster layering )
I love old world looks and o know what your thinking .
This was my first wall paint tutorial and wanted to see if subscribers had value to it so your feedback really helps 🙏💙🎨
@@TheReclaimedHeirloom loved your tips thx much question..why does chalk paint dry to such a pale almost there when dry brushed
Christina I loved ur episode. Your video is so helpful I can't wait to paint my old furniture. It's so important to know the dont's than the do's. Very well explained. thank u so much Christina.
Thank you Christina! Another informative show!
Thank you so much for your thoughtful comment and support 🙏💙💙
your video popped up, I first thought you'd be too classy for me, then you winked. You are real and very very helpful! lol thanks! look forward to more of your videos!!!
Hi where i can get the brans of the paint and wax
I love your projects!
Do you have to rewax them all every few months? I’ve heard a few times that the wax only lasts short term. Thx.
Good question
I understand that to be true too. Why would anyone sell a piece of furniture and tell the buyer “oh by the way, you will need to apply a special wax a few times a year.”
I have just come across this video and I am happy for that. Thank you for your clear, thorough and precious tips!
When you mention mixing chalk paint, is it advisable to mix acrylic paint with chalk paint to add some colour? Sometimes it would be just a dab of acrylic which comes in tubes to mix with chalk paint base (white/neutral).
Thank you so much! I hope you enjoy today's new video! ❤️🎨🙏
Hi Bianca
You should be good to go! I have painted over many pieces that I have previously painted with chalk paint and wax.
Painting over chalk paint no problem!!
And as long as the wax is removed at least most of it you are good to go for a new makeover 🤗💙🎨
@@TheReclaimedHeirloom Thank you!!!
Do u need to use mineral spirits or is sanding sufficient to remove the wax?
@@ED80s I think in most cases you need to remove the wax with mineral spirits first.
Very helpful guide. About to start my first chalk paint project, a small book case. I hadn't planned on priming but I will now. Considering temperature and drying time, I will paint inside the house and not in the garage.
Thank You very much Ms Christina, that was so helpful.🥰
Thank you so much Regeina 🙏
Your kind words and support means so much 🤗
Thank you for this video! I am a newbie and this was great info!
Glad it was helpful!🎨🙏❤️
What if you have an item that was painted and waxed that you’d like to repaint? How do you prep...since it has wax on it?
Hi Laine! I would use TSP cleaner and a scrubbing sponge to remove the wax. ❤️🎨🙏
The presenter also stressed using a primer . I imagine after the wax is removed.
I just love you. For sharing , and yourself, I love watching you create
This was very helpful, thank you. I’m about to start my first attempt with my baby dresser.
New at this and can’t wait to give this a try and your tip timing was PERFECT for me~~ Thank you!!
You are so welcome! Thank you for subscribing to my channel! 🙏❤️🎨
You are super cool ,fantastic tips ,I'm starting my project now .❤❤
Thank you so much!!! ❤️🙏🎨
💐Hello Christina...
Great Video, I really appreciate these videos because their are many things you are telling us that I had to learn the hard way and it can be quite frustrating to say the least....
I have a few questions:
Have you ever used liming wax on any of your projects?
Your Friend,
Marley
Hi Just a fellow fan😊 I just want to jump in and mention wax is always last... you should not add poly after traditional waxes... I’ve heard Liming wax may be different.. check instructions... Good Luck with your new home... sounds amazing😊🌟

💐 Hi Kimberly....
Marley
It’s so cool to see everyone helping each other out!!!! 🎨🙏❤️
Happy to have found you! 😊 🇨🇦 Hope all is well in your neck of the woods…British Columbia is in such a state of chaos! Take care! 😊💖
Thank you, Cristina, for the useful tips! You are a mine of information and I love your graceful manners 😊😍.
Hi!!! Thank you so much for the kind words!!! Thanks for supporting my channel!! ❤️🎨🙏
Hello, thanks for your lovely videos, I recently did my whole bedroom and I’m very happy about it except for one piece. After painting and waxing, the paint was coming off or easily scratched. Why?
Omg I'm so happy I found your channel! Here's to a new lockdown hobby 🎊
Hi Christina. Thank you for sharing Your tips !👍
I just ❤️❤️ Watching Everything you Do 😊
Thank you so much for your thoughtful comment 🙏❤️🤗
Love your videos. So helpful. 👏👏👏👏
Hi Linda!! Glad you like them! ❤️🎨🙏
Hi Cynthia! yeah I was surprised when I was told this tips ❤️🎨🙏
@@TheReclaimedHeirloom would this also happen with distilled or filtered water?
I have saved every episode of your series for Chalk Paint 101, always referring back. ✔👌 I have enjoyed these so much! Thank you! Looking back though, wish this would have been one of the first ones, only because I was a wreck newbie.😜 I'm grateful to have the information you share. Also thankful this isn't a course for pass/fail. 😁😉
Hehe! No fails here Kim!! We are here just have fun and experiment!!! See you this Saturday in class!!! 😂🤗🎨🙏❤️
@@TheReclaimedHeirloom 😂👍
Thank you for your video. I recently bought my first can of chalk paint to cover a large plastic mirror frame. I'm now on the third layer to really cover the black frame. It's covered pretty well, but I wish that I had seen this video prior so that I would have done a little sanding first.
Glad you liked the video! ❤️🙏🎨
This was a great presentation thank you! I am painting a marble fireplace with chalk paint. On the second coat I used a roller. It shows. Do you recommend doing another coat on top with a wet brush as you say here or lightly sand first?
Very good tips thank you for sharing your talent
Thanks a lot for this excellent recommandations ! 🙏 So cooooool ...
I love all your gorgeous projects ! It s so frenchy 😊. You have the "vieille france" feeling !! 💙
Hi Grouick!! Thanks so much!!! Maybe you should check out this Saturday’s tutorial! It’s has a little French side to it! 😂🎨🙏
IKR?? Such an elegant finish. I can't wait to complete my vintage table and add some bling!!!
Any advice for painting over pieces that have a laminate top?
I’m so happy I stumbled upon you! I love your videos! I need to ask, I bought a second hand dining room set and the chairs have a rattan back, would it look good if I painted it? I want to chalk paint the whole set but I’m wondering about the rattan.
Love your podcast
Oh my goodness. Just started a vintage bed and now I don’t feel guilty about not liking it! I’m going to redo it!
