Hi Christina!! I just found you on RUclips and am a new subscriber!! I’m working on my very first dresser and am so thankful that you answered my biggest question that I could NOT find an answer to anywhere!! I needed to know if I should do the varithane or dark wax first!! So thank you very much for answering that!! I got the impression that you preferred laquer to varithane though! Can you tell me what you like about it better? I already bought the varithane but I’m ready to go exchange it if you think laquer is better!! Thanks so much!!!
Dear Christina, your channel has the simplest and most professional presentation of very valuable information about the technique of staining with chalk paint and waxes !!!!. I want to admit that among the many similar videos on RUclips, your work is of the highest quality! Thank you very much for generously sharing your knowledge !!! I am happy that I found your channel !!!
This helped me SO MUCH!!! I’ve never heard that you could use steel wool to buff wax before, and I had some dark wax on a dresser I did that I could not get off all the way. The steel wool did the trick in about two minutes! This SAVED the project and I’m so grateful!!!
I came home from work and I've been on a 3 week push of putting in a lot of hours so I'm tired and just needed some quiet time. I remembered it was Wednesday. Yay, I can watch Christina's 101 video released today. I grabbed a snack, settled in and totally enjoyed episode #13. It is apparent how much you have played and experimented. Thanks for sharing that. It also makes me smile when you "use what you have on hand"....I'm not the only one!! Anyway, I'm looking forward to Saturday's video. Take care and keep 'em coming!
Hi Kim!!! So glad to hear you enjoy my videos after a crazy work week or for you 3 weeks!!! Stay safe!! I have a new video out today, I hope you enjoy it!! Let me know what you think!!! ❤️🎨🙏
Great video! I’m still a big fan of chalk paint and have been using Annie Sloan for about 15 years and your video was still super helpful! We have a small budget to paint our kitchen cabinets and decided to do them ourselves, my husband was curious about using dark wax with lacquer and our question was answered in your video. Thanks so much!
I wish you would do an episode on cleaning brushes, and your furniture. What products you use, and what not to use to clean your brushes, or furniture with. How you clean the wax and paint off your brushes.
Love the idea of softening the wax because it will also go easy on the Bristol's we use ;) it's very annoying when you're losing bristles in your hard walks LOL
Thank you, thank you for all the subtleties and secrets! I listened to you and remembered all my experiments with wax and this exactly coincides with what I discovered when I worked with wax !!!
I really love your popcasts! I learn a lot with you!! Your lessons are quite interesting!! And thank you for speaking so clever and being so carefull with your accent, this is quite important for foreing people like me.
Hi Christina! I so happy to hear that you are enjoying them!! I try to speak clear and provide the translation, I am happy that it is working for you!!! ❤️🎨🙏
I love your loyalty to Annie Sloan. No other paint compares, imo. I just feel like the others are “cheapened” because I feel like they are all knockoffs. There’s one brand that is everywhere. To me, that cheapens it. I wouldn’t use Walmart brand either, Walmart does not need my money. The small businesses that carry Annie, do. ❤ Love your videos!
I love black wax applied with steel wool, with AS black, it's more charcoal but the black wax gives it a great look. Black is almost as hard as white to get a good looking top coat so the steel wool with black is all i use.
Thanks so much! Using it on my first project today and already had to rescue it from the garage! Hoping for a wax miracle. The Behr chalk paint didn't level as hoped. Maybe I didn't need to prime? Maybe extra coats of wax. TY!
Hi Christina, well I just rushed inside to remove my bits and bobs off a piece I finished waxing on Friday. I am selling it, so that advice came in right on time! You're my chalk paint angel! Thank you so much for all your wonderful tips and ideas.
So helpful for a newbie. Do you need to wash your wax brush? Or wrap in plastic wrap till next time. I just used wax for the first time on my first piece. Used an old tea towel. Left fine lint :-( Your video was so helpful. Thanks
Hola! Me encanta.
Seriously, I learned some excellent tips! Thank you for sharing so many great things about wax and paint! Absolutely love all those valuable information.
Thank you Christina, very useful information. I am very much inspired by your work and the results you get. I am trying many of the techniques on smaller projects and I am having some success thanks to your kind instructions.
Hi Randee!! So glad to hear that you are enjoying the channel! I have a few playlists that arranged by techniques if you ever need to reference something its organized that way!! Thanks for watching!!! ❤️🎨🙏
Hi, there, just found you on RUclips and am about to tackle some refinishing furniture projects! I was wondering how exactly do you soften the wax, you didn't quite explain it, do you just dig a big chunk of it and microwave it? Thx so much! I'm a newbie and rather avoid any mistake s I can!👍
Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge. I've learnt so much from watching your videos. I'm a newbie to painting furniture but love it. It really helps me cope in these unsettling times we fins ourselves in. Thank you 😍
Hi Karen!! Welcome to my channel!!! So happy to help you take your mind off of things!!! I hope you enjoy my videos! I have my previous videos listed by various techniques so feel free to take a look and learn from them. If you have any questions just drop my a note here in the comments section. ❤️🎨🙏
Hi, just came across your videos because i want to make chalks for schools blackboards. I want the chalks to be coated on the surface, to reduce "chalky" fingers while using and at the same time easy to wipe between lessons? Which approach/product may you advice to me please Thank you
Thank you so much for your top 10 tips on waxing! ❤️ May I ask, do you use separate wax brushes for dark and black waxes? Also what do you wash your wax brushes in? Your tips have been so helpful..thank you!😀
Hi Fran!! Yes I would have separate wax brushed for dark and black as the shade will be different if you mix the brushes , but if you are washing them after each use then you could get away with just one brush between the two wax, just make sure to clean them. I usually wash them under the sink with dish detergent like dawn. I hope this helps!! I have a new video out on Saturday I hope you enjoy it!!❤️🎨🙏
I watched this video again after asking you a question on another tutorial where you used black wax on a piece. My question is: Do you add the dark wax before you have buffed the clear wax or do you buff the clear and then just make sure that you put on the dark during that open window of time? Also, do you use 2 coats of clear wax before moving on to the dark? How much wax is enough?? Sorry to be repeating myself re these questions but just want to be sure! Thanks, Christina!!!
Hi Christina. Can't believe it's been 13 weeks now. This was a great lesson on waxing.... I'm gonna make a change, and apply with a wax brush. Thank you again for your antidote's in chalk painting and more. Happy Thanksgiving Dee Green
Is it safe to use Gamvar gloss on chalk paint? I also have Waverly Wax and Varnish. I’m new at this! Wasn’t sure the best way to go. It’s a 12 year olds black, gold and hot pink vanity i painted.
Fabulous Q&A Christina!! I feel like I'm a wax professional now . . Jk I have along way to go. However, I do know that your tips will help me get there❤ Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge *hugs*
Great tips, Christina! Can't believe it's already #13! Would love to have you do some troubleshooting tutorials on waxing (maybe I just have to go back to some of your videos) because I have had trouble with the waxing and/or buffing taking off the chalk paint. Watching you perhaps fix a boo-boo. Also, a side note, I bought the 0000 steel wool and tried to buff a piece with a topcoat sealer (as per another tutorial...not yours) and it went down to the original finish (boy, the mistakes I'm making!). This is not as easy as it sounds...yikes!
Hi Katherine, I think maybe it was too much pressure on with steel wool (You have right one!!) it sounds like that might be the case. The other thing maybe was your paint dried completely before wax/buffing step? Just keep at it! Wax is not easy but you can master it! ❤️🎨🙏
Good info. I just had to sand a piece I had already waxed, then painted. Now, although it looks good, should I wax it again to protect, or will it take off the paint and put me back to square one? It looks so good right now. It is on the seat of a chair, where people will be sitting.
That was a nice video. The extra - fine steel woll sounds good. Can u do it a dsy or 2 later? I need to but it and I waxed quite richly today my chalk paint peace.
Your such an expert Ive had to watch your videos serveral times when you do the do's and donts! I have one question where did you find the chunky wax brush and does it have a brand name? Love watching your Chanel.
Great video. Learning alot from your videos, sure is relaxing & fun.. like you said just have FUN!.. You were saying 3 spoons of clear wax how much chalk paint to customize your own colored wax..ratios?😊
Hi Kathy!!! Sorry the ratio would be 3 tablespoons of clear wax to 1 teaspoon of paint. I would start with that and if you want more color intensity add a little more paint. This ratio I described is more on the conservative approach as sometimes you just want a little effect and other times more! I hope this helps!!! ❤️🎨🙏
Once again thank you Christina for all the great info. You mentioned to not wait when applying too long between applying dark wax over clear wax. What would be the steps I would take if that is the case? I have applied white wax and have waited over a day to apply dark wax. Should I apply the white wax again and then apply dark wax? Thank you for all your tutorials.
Love your video. Thank you. When i sell my furniture I tend to shy away from wax because I hear it is not as durable and has to be re waxed from time to time. Would love your thoughts
Thank you so much Suzanna 🙏 for your kind comment and excellent question! Generally you wait a few hours depending on your room temp but the next day is usually best! 🤗🎨💙
All the Featherlite brushes are unavailable 😢 I have a small set of chalk paint brushes. Can u use them interchangeably, wash them, or do u need a dedicated wax brush?
I would say if you can get a separate wax brush because you can clean them to paint but the wax brushes are bit more shorter in the hair length. You need to buy expensive ones when you start out. Keep a dedicated wax brush. ❤️❤️❤️❤️🙏🎨

Hello. Love your video. But my question is I want to put clear wax on oat , raw wood. Do I seal still. Please help. First time doing a table.
Hi Marie, if you just want to put clear wax on raw wood, yes you can. The wax acts like a sealer. ❤️🙏🎨
Hi, just came across your videos because i want to make chalks for schools blackboards. I want the chalks to be coated on the surface, to reduce "chalky" fingers while using and at the same time easy to wipe between lessons?

I watched this video again after asking you a question on another tutorial where you used black wax on a piece. My question is:
Do you add the dark wax before you have buffed the clear wax or do you buff the clear and then just make sure that you put on the dark during that open window of time? Also, do you use 2 coats of clear wax before moving on to the dark? How much wax is enough?? Sorry to be repeating myself re these questions but just want to be sure! Thanks, Christina!!!
Hi Susan two coats will be fine and then add the dark wax as needed. 🙏🎨❤️

Great tips, Christina! Can't believe it's already #13! Good question! I use a mild dish detergent like dawn to clean them. ❤️🎨🙏
Thank you!
Hi Christina! Thank you for these tips! How long should I wait before buffing after waxing ?
Thank you so much Suzanna 🙏 for your kind comment and excellent question!
Generally you wait a few hours depending on your room temp but the next day is usually best! 🤗🎨💙
And one more thing ... is it possible to apply acrylic varnish after waxing for the stability of the coating?
Ahhh y otra cosa, se puede después de sellar, encerar?! Protege lo mismo o no se puede? 🤔
All the Featherlite brushes are unavailable 😢
I have a small set of chalk paint brushes.
