From what I can gather from this mix, is that there are at least 5 different mercyful fate songs 1 - Satan's fall 2- curse of the Pharaoh's 3- corpse without a soul 4 - into the coven 5- evil All worth reacting to it.
Indeed, there are 5 different songs in this medley, all from the Melissa album - only 2 shy from using the whole album, lol : Black Funeral and At The Sound Of The Demon Bell (aka Halloween) If you really want to be through and precise, you could add a 6th section to the medley by acknowledging the reprise of Satan's Fall at the end. :-) EDIT : Whoops! My bad - some MF fan I am, I mistakenly attributed A Corpse WIthout Soul as being from the Melissa album (it was from the EP)... so that means 3 songs were not used from Melissa, the third song being the bloody title track itself, Melissa, lol. How could I cock that up so bad? :-P
My favorites off of Garage Inc., besides the Merciful Fate medley: the Diamondhead covers "Am I Evil", "Helpless" and "The Prince", Budgie's "Breadfan". Also, in more recent years they did a similar cover medley of Dio (Rainbow) songs which is great, called "Ronnie Rising"
Man, the "secret man" that writes all lyrics for King Diamond - is..... Guess who? Lol. King Diamond. And also King Diamond wrote all lyrics for Mercyful Fate. So there are no mysteries here - the "backstage genius" is the on-stage genius, and King Diamond is a genius.Lars Ulrich and King Diamond are both from Denmark so - they know each other in person and Metallica as a band did some gigs with Mercyful Fate.
I read he also wrote most of the instruments, probably during the Solo career; he doesn't play them live though-- I think he was always holding that (real?) skeleton or something; hard to remember.
I call this the "MERCYFUL MEDLEY"... 1:31 I. SATAN'S FALL 2:19 II. CURSE OF THE PHARAOHS 5:24 III. A CORPSE WITHOUT SOUL 7:01 IV. INTO THE COVEN 8:47 V. EVIL 12:24 VI. SATAN'S FALL [Reprise] I suppose one could go for the alliteration trifecta and call it "Metallica's Mercyful Medley"... If not for "Corpse", the medley would be made up entirely of songs from the Melissa album... then it could be called "Metallica's Mercyful Melissa Medley"
This song was my introduction to King Diamond and Mercyful Fate. I went to the local record store and picked up Don't Break the Oath and the guy behind the counter handed me House of God and told me that I would want that one as well. Absolutely amazing.
Don't break the oath is absolutely one of my all time favourite album's, Mercyful Fate Is just one of the best bands even tho I don't agree with the satanic views at all, the music is still absolutely phenomenal
it's actually a compilation of parts of five different mercyful Fate songs Satan's fall... curse of the Pharaohs... a corpse without a soul... into the coven and evil I was fortunate to have a bud who was bass/guitar tech for King Diamond/Mercyful Fate....seen/ met them many times
King Diamond records are basically horror stories in album form, the whole album tells a particular story, so one King Diamond song out of context might not make alot of sense lyrically, as far as this song, its a medley of Mercyful Fate songs
Love Mercyful Fate music, their riffs are amazing. Love the Garage Inc too, incredible covers, but this mix was one of my favorites... Budgie, Misfits, Killing Joke and Diamond head covers were great too.
Mercyful Fate is a cover of 5 Mercyful Fate songs played as a medley Satans Fall Curse of the Pharaohs A Corpse Without Soul Into the Coven And ending with Evil
Listen to the OG Mercyful Fate Melissa and Dont Break The Oath albums. The classic line up. Lars chose the arrangement using the Mercyful Fate BBC 1 sessions. Mercyful Fate shared studio with Metallica in Copenhagen and have been friends eversince
Speaking of Mercyful Fate (MF), and King Diamond's (KD) solo stuff (which is kinda funny if you know what's up, in that King just wasn't pleased with the direction MF was going in at the time...which ended up disbanding the band...temporarily...until they got back together years later for several more albums) is that their music is very progressive. Lots of time and rhythm changes. Their music was originally classified as Black Metal, but once the Norwegian Black Metal bands took over the mantra in the 90s, Black Metal became synonymous with the Norwegian style.
Seen them 5 times live. 3 of those after this double LP, I’m pretty sure they usually play at least one song from it. Luckily for me it has been a different song each of those 3 times. Last time a couple years ago it was “Whiskey in the Jar”. One of the many reasons why Metallica kicks ass.
you need to understand that this is a medley of mercyful fate songs that they merged together. people don't understand that for some reason, but that's what this is.
King writes ALL the lyrics for both Mercyful Fate and his solo project. He wrote/writes most of the music, but other band members have made excellent contributions, including Hank Shermann, Michael Denner, and Andy LaRocque.
Mercyful Fate was from Denmark... their lead singer King Diamond wrote controversial lyrics about satanism and horror fiction. They debuted in the early 80's before Metallica even had a record out... their 1983 album 'Melissa' and "Don't break the oath" from 1984 were incredible heavy metal albums. However, the band split in 1985 cos guitarist Hank Shermann wanted to explore more 'funk' rock music... the band renamed themselves King Diamond and released their debut album 'Fatal portrait' in 1986. The 2nd album 'Abigail' in 1987 was what made King Diamond a success, their first album w/ a full concept story based on macabre horror fiction. Mercyful Fate did reunite in 1993 for the album 'In the shadows' (Lars Ulrich of Metallica played drums on 1 song) and they released 5 albums in the 90's before parting ways again in 2000... King Diamond kept recording solo albums as well. King Diamond is working on a new album due out soon... Mercyful Fate was planning to play shows in 2020 when covid-19 hit. Original Mercyful Fate bassist Timi Hansen, who also played on the 1st 2 King Diamond albums, passed away in 2019 from cancer (R.I.P 😷)
If you really would like to go left field on this album check out Turn the Page, a Bob Seger cover or Tuesday's Gone by Lynyrd Skynyrd. Both are very different from what Metallica normally plays but they are both brilliant.
This was a medley of a bunch of songs from Mercyful Fate's album, Melissa. Evil, Into the Coven, Curse of the Pharaoh and Satan's Fall. Who's the man behind Mercyful Fate? None other than King Diamond and the dynamic duo of Michael Denner and Hank Sherman on guitars
More reactions to Mercyful Fate and King Diamond!! If you liked the riffs and lyrical content for this, you will love the other stuff. You can't go wrong with most of Mercyful Fate and King Diamond's stuff. I personally recommend "Welcome Princes of Hell" as that it one that seems to get overlooked.
Garage Inc dropped when I was in 8th grade which led me into an 8 yr stretch of listening to exclusively Metallica. It got me through growing up with the most aggressive, violent, evil rural juveniles you can imagine...it gave me the animosity to fight back
Yes Metallica went to dutchland where the drummer of Metallica was born recorded their first album kill them All and had weird experiences at his castle you want to do a song do Satan's Fall by merciful fate it may be 11 minutes but it's worth every second
This is a medley of Mercyful Fate's songs. Metallica and MF crossed paths many times earlier in their careers and always had great respect for each other.
This 4 songs from mercyful fate. Lars is a huge king diamond fan so is Metallica but Lars and king diamond are both from Denmark. So shout out to my danish brethren.
Nice reaction! From Garage Inc., listen to Turn The Page; Whiskey In a Jar; Overkill; Breadfan. Also, check out Metallica's Load/Reload albums. Definitely a lot of hidden gems like The Outlaw Torn; Hero of the Day; The Unforgiven 2; Mama Said ⚡🤘
hey T, Much love from texas and just as an FYI this particular song is not one song it is snippets from four different merciful fate songs that's why the lyrics dont make sense. yes more reactions from garage Inc. because the entire album is nothing but covers that Metallica have done over their career IMO One of the best covers besides SO WHAT is BREADFAN Which is also on this album please do a full album reaction that would be awesome
Btw if you like James' vocals, you really should check out 'Beatallica' (even Metallica likes them) They mesh Metallica and Beatles, music/lyrics/songs/song titles, and they are good at it, ..The Thing That Should Not Let it Be, Fuel on the Hill, Garage Days Night, .. (the lead singer sounds just like James. They'v toured, and played at metal festivals, around the world. The Beatles had 'The White Album, Metallica had 'The Black Album, Beatallica has 'The Grey Album'/'Beatallica'. These guys are legit musicians
NOT a cover song, it's a MEDLEY of 5 Mercyful Fate songs: Satan's Fall, Curse of the Pharaohs, A Corpse Without Soul, Into the Coven, Evil. *PS: Dude, you gotta correct Merciful to Mercyful as that is how lead singer King Diamond chose to spell it.
I'd rather see you get into the other 'garage' album. I'm still waiting for a reaction to "Dyers Eve," by Metalica, on the 'Justice,' album. Now THAT's a burner!!! 🔥 🤘😁
Yeah this song is strictly a cover of 5 songs of the first Mercyful Fate record 'Melissa' it's one of the best covers of the King you'll ever hear and one of the best Metal albums you'll ever hear. Melissa put the King on the map in the early 80s and catapulted him into being the Legend he is today
Lars is a good friend of King Diamond, both Danish. He also drums on the Merciful Fate song Return Of The Vampire, this version is on the Merciful Fate compilation album Return Of The Vampire. You should listen to the original Merciful Fate songs. Metallica is a great band, but the original Merciful Fate line-up is undefeated. Drum and bass from Kim Ruz and Timmie Grabber, the best guitar duo ever Michael Denner and Hank Shermann and over that all King's high falsetto screams!!!!
Hi T I like your reaction channel, it's Awesome, like I mentioned on your other reaction video. I'm most probably be One of your oldest fan of your reaction videos. Because you play All of my favourite bands. I'm 54. I have 1 problem, I ask you and some other people who do reaction videos, Can you and them to do a reaction request from me. But it seem that Patrons only get that privileged.I would love for you to check out an Australian band called Angeles, song is called: Take a long line. The Lead singer is dead. R. I. P. Doc. Keep up the good work 👍 from Dave in Australia 🇦🇺.
Garage Inc includes the "$5.98 EP" from 1987. When I could not find that EP on CD anymore, Garage Inc came to the rescue. If not for that, the "Creeping Death" b-sides (Am I Evil and Blitzkrieg), and this "Mercyful Medley", I might not have bothered with this compilation. The other covers are okay, a couple or even pretty good, though I'm not a fan of Tuesday's Gone... too bluesy and mellow for Metallica, lol. What's next... soon they be wailin and cryin that their woman done left and took all the money from the mason jar and only left the broke-down pickup truck and an old one-eyed hound dog. New from Metallica : I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry
Love this reaction! If you like this I highly recommend one of the live performances where they get King and some other members onstage with them, and all just rock out to some of the greatest licks ever recorded, with the guys who recorded them.
excuse me sir, but am I to understand that you were in the service? you are in the 1/1000th of anyone I'd actually respect. Long live you and all yours
Good choice! I know it's a cover but I love this song. Just as I like BOC, but love their version of Astronomy much better. If you liked this, another song I think you'd like is Ronnie Rising Medley
the tune "astronomy" from the same album listen to the original first Shit, do a double reaction original is done by "blue oyster cult" dude juan commented correctly that its a mix jam
From what I can gather from this mix, is that there are at least 5 different mercyful fate songs
1 - Satan's fall
2- curse of the Pharaoh's
3- corpse without a soul
4 - into the coven
5- evil
All worth reacting to it.
You beat me to it brother. Love this mashup!
And these songs are all on their first album "Melissa" released in 1983. And I still own the LP, wich I bought in 1983.
Yes they are all from Melissa. It wasn't that hard to pick up on them. I personally don't like this mix.
Indeed, there are 5 different songs in this medley, all from the Melissa album - only 2 shy from using the whole album, lol : Black Funeral and At The Sound Of The Demon Bell (aka Halloween)
If you really want to be through and precise, you could add a 6th section to the medley by acknowledging the reprise of Satan's Fall at the end. :-)
EDIT : Whoops!
I believe you're correct
Let's take a moment to appreciate the awesome riffs written by Hank Shermann and Michael Denner
Go look up The Brats "1980" album. A couple godfathers of metal made one of the best punk albums ever.
Garage Inc. is one of my fave metallica albums. A double CD of covers of songs by bands they liked/influenced by.
Which is about as close as the Garage Inc. sound as they got, especially with 'Kill The King', which is my favorite part of the 'Medley'.
N they performed this together at a Dallas show where King currently resides
Yeah
I read he also wrote most of the instruments, probably during the Solo career; he doesn't play them live though-- I think he was always holding that (real?) skeleton or something; hard to remember.
That's right can't fuck with KING DIAMOND he's the man
They actually met in the Don't Break The Oath era when MF lent Metallica their studio in Denmark that's when the friendship was formed
I call this the "MERCYFUL MEDLEY"...
1:31 I. SATAN'S FALL
2:19 II. CURSE OF THE PHARAOHS
5:24 III. A CORPSE WITHOUT SOUL
7:01 IV. INTO THE COVEN
8:47 V. EVIL
12:24 VI. SATAN'S FALL [Reprise]
I suppose one could go for the alliteration trifecta and call it "Metallica's Mercyful Medley"...
If not for "Corpse", the medley would be made up entirely of songs from the Melissa album... then it could be called "Metallica's Mercyful Melissa Medley"
James refers to this song as "12 minutes of Satan" (when they played this live in New York, I believe)
Awesome medley of a bunch of Mercyful Fate songs
This song was my introduction to King Diamond and Mercyful Fate. I went to the local record store and picked up Don't Break the Oath and the guy behind the counter handed me House of God and told me that I would want that one as well. Absolutely amazing.

If you enjoyed THAT .listen to the Mercyful Fate version..🤘😎🤘
Their cover of Motörhead’s “Stone Dead Forever” off this album is 🔥🔥🔥.
Mercyful Fate is a cover of 5 Mercyful Fate songs played as a medley
Satans Fall
Curse of the Pharaohs
A Corpse Without Soul
Into the Coven
And ending with Evil
Listen to the OG Mercyful Fate Melissa and Dont Break The Oath albums. The classic line up. Lars chose the arrangement using the Mercyful Fate BBC 1 sessions. Mercyful Fate shared studio with Metallica in Copenhagen and have been friends eversince
First 2 Mercy Albums rule
True but into the unknown and time was a really good album too
Speaking of Mercyful Fate (MF), and King Diamond's (KD) solo stuff (which is kinda funny if you know what's up, in that King just wasn't pleased with the direction MF was going in at the time...which ended up disbanding the band...temporarily...until they got back together years later for several more albums) is that their music is very progressive. This is actually a mash up of mercyful fate songs. They did a kick ass job on it. Love this tune
Yep one of my fav Metallica albums, was a good refresher after Load/Reload
Awesome reaction dude. First one I’ve seen from you and what a song to see! Very cool. 🤘
This song by far is their best cover. The entire album is really really dope. I recommend THE WAIT.
James singing King Diamond is pure magic
Totally 👊
🤘🇩🇰🇺🇸🤘Mercyful Fate the pride of Denmark!🇩🇰🤘
you need to understand that this is a medley of mercyful fate songs that they merged together. people don't understand that for some reason, but that's what this is.

So weird hearing these songs sung without the falsetto!
Out of all the songs on CD 1, THIS is the best one, imho. Ass-kicker from start to finish. It's, also, my favorite.
They played those songs live in New York that was awesome!!

My favorite track from this Garage Inc compilation, plus Astronomy!😍😍
Now you HAVE to do Ronnie Rising medley
Basically the same concept just for Dio and 15 years later
Garage Inc dropped when I was in 8th grade which led me into an 8 yr stretch of listening to exclusively Metallica. It got me through growing up with the most aggressive, violent, evil rural juveniles you can imagine...it gave me the animosity to fight back
Hey T they did this song live with King Diamond and original Mercyful Fate band great performance live
Mercyful Fate is a Danish band. Lars Ulrich, also from Denmark, brought these songs to Metallica.
Yes Metallica went to dutchland where the drummer of Metallica was born recorded their first album kill them All and had weird experiences at his castle you want to do a song do Satan's Fall by merciful fate it may be 11 minutes but it's worth every second
A$$ kickin' - in your face - bone crunching - HEAVY METAL!!!! 🤘
Their cover of Iron Maidens' Remember Tomorrow is amaze, it's on their last albums bonus CDs, which I own :)
Killer fucking cover of MercyFul Fates classic...fucking love it!!!
Thank you for that!!!
This is a medley of Mercyful Fate's songs. Metallica and MF crossed paths many times earlier in their careers and always had great respect for each other.
I love everything Metallica did in the 90s, the 80s was their best era musically speaking but the 90s were also special for Metallica music
😂 that necrophilia got him shook
Whole album is Fire bro
If you love James...you need to listen to the originals.... King's vocal range is pretty incredible
Honestly im not a fan of king's vocals tbh it's just personal preference
The song is actually a medley of different Mercyful Fate songs.
Definitely a lot of hidden gems like The Outlaw Torn; Hero of the Day; The Unforgiven 2; Mama Said ⚡🤘
I really enjoyed this.
The small hours, breadfan are also good too
hey T, Much love from texas and just as an FYI this particular song is not one song it is snippets from four different merciful fate songs that's why the lyrics dont make sense. yes more reactions from garage Inc. because the entire album is nothing but covers that Metallica have done over their career IMO One of the best covers besides SO WHAT is BREADFAN Which is also on this album please do a full album reaction that would be awesome
You should check out Return of the Vampire 93
While James was recovering from burns Lars played on this song released on 1993s In the Shadows
They actually play this song with half of Mercyful Fate. Should look it up.
Please react to the actual Merciful Fate. Anything from Melissa or Don't Break The Oath.
KINGS of transition
Btw if you like James' vocals, you really should check out 'Beatallica' (even Metallica likes them) They mesh Metallica and Beatles, music/lyrics/songs/song titles, and they are good at it, ..The Thing That Should Not Let it Be, Fuel on the Hill, Garage Days Night, .. The Beatles had 'The White Album, Metallica had 'The Black Album, Beatallica has 'The Grey Album'/'Beatallica'. These guys are legit musicians
Its a musical collage of different Merciful Fate songs mostly from their first 2 releases the EP n first album Melissa
They did open for Venom at one point in the early days
NOT a cover song, it's a MEDLEY of 5 Mercyful Fate songs: Satan's Fall, Curse of the Pharaohs, A Corpse Without Soul, Into the Coven, Evil. *PS: Dude, you gotta correct Merciful to Mercyful as that is how lead singer King Diamond chose to spell it.
Garage Inc also had Whiskey In The Jar. I believe you would really enjoy it.
Kings solo albums are horror stories n the songs are a part of the story
Becky Baldwin totally fits in the band!
This album of covers is there best.
Garage Inc. Is some of Bob Rock's best work. IMO
Best part of the whole garage inc album.
It's like 5songs you need to check out don't break the oath by mercyfulfate it's actually a melody of different songs that may be why it got confusing
They play this on live, 12 minutes it so hard. But this is why are famous and rich
Metallica - It's Electric
I'd rather see you get into the other 'garage' album.
I'm still waiting for a reaction to "Dyers Eve," by Metalica, on the 'Justice,' album. Now THAT's a burner!!! 🔥
🤘😁

Garage inc has quite a few hidden gems on it! enjoy!!!
Long live the King !
It is a "medly" (idk if I spelled that correctly; various Mercyful Fate songs.
Garage Inc includes the "$5.98 EP" from 1987. When I could not find that EP on CD anymore, Garage Inc came to the rescue. excuse me sir, but am I to understand that you were in the service? you are in the 1/1000th of anyone I'd actually respect. Long live you and all yours
Yes
Yes those are 5 different songs by mercyful fate that metallica covered and did a good job sounds good but that's mr.Diamond lyrics
Stone cold crazy or breadfan are both great covers off this album.
Great medley from a great covers album..you could do a Garage Days reaction series!
Good choice! I know it's a cover but I love this song. Just as I like BOC, but love their version of Astronomy much better. If you liked this, another song I think you'd like is Ronnie Rising Medley
IMO their best cover is Kill the King by Rainbow on their tribute to DIO in Ronnie rising medley.
Man you need to listen to the first two Mercyful Fate albums they are AMAZING !
It’s a medley of Merciful Fate tunes. Really awesome. You do know it’s parts of multiple songs right?
Check out Mercyful Fate "Satan's Fall"
the tune "astronomy" from the same album listen to the original first Shit, do a double reaction original is done by "blue oyster cult" dude juan commented correctly that its a mix jam
Excellent idea

I have a CD with a live recording of this on it. James called it 15 minutes in hell. Even better live.
Great reaction
