Oshi No Ko is really good in showing us the production issues people have. Whether it's a TV drama, or film, or manga, and now stage play. This show humanizes everyone in the production team. Not everyone is great, but they're still human. Some people are great, but they can be faced with unreasonably hard challenges that could affect the quality of their art. I'm so excited for the next episode. Goa deserves the respect. I can only imagine as a creative to have your hard work get stomped on by the person you look up to. Goa brought his 120% but the poor communication was detrimental. Good communication is vital to making adaptations like this. The original author of the source material is not an expert in your field, but their input is still of utmost importance. Great reaction and discussion!
I don't think many people noticed (I didn't until someone pointed it out to me), but going back to last episode's telephone game scene notice what Abiko initially says about the script and compare it to GOA's reaction to the instructions he was given - they have the exact same opinion on how to improve the script, but both were let down by the middlemen.
That back and forth between the mangakas was awesome OnK keep giving us insight into animanga industry and its a treat to watch in such entertaining way hopefully more fans are aware of their condition and refrain from giving harsh feedbacks
if anyone like this arc i highly recommend Shirobako which directly about anime production you will understand the industry problems that popular recently and able to appreciate the good studio more
@@miva1214 Bakuman (by the author and artist duo of Death Note) is also another good look at the industry from the mangaka's PoV in the style of a shounen manga. I don't think the whole manga got animated though.
“harsh feedback”. this is the problem. a lot of people fail to see (and give) constructive feedback instead of just bashing a show. on the other hand there are also people who don’t consider any criticism and take constructive feedback as just hate.
@@minecraftreports yep im so glad oshi no ko is this popular because ppl will have more educated opinion at least i have no comment about the last part since im not an artist but if u mean the fans... thats their own critical thinking and emotional problem, we can't do anything about that lol
A weekly mangaka has 4-5 assistants. Abiko fired them all, then of course she would have no time to sleep. That was a one of what Kichijoji-sensei pissed off about Abiko. Caring about their own (and their staff's) health in order to do a good job is something which must do as a professional. But there were exceptions, Akira Toriyama had only an assistant while he was drawing Dragon Ball. He said “Because I’m not good at hiring someone and be hired by someone.”
Best anime for this sort of manga insider detail is probably Bakuman from the Death Note creators, where the entire story is about managing manga production issues, burnout, assistants, etc.
12:13 Ooh, I didn’t even think about how moving the classroom scene to this episode added to this exchange- I was just thinking about how it meant spacing Ruby’s appearances in this arc out a little more. (In the manga, it was part of Ruby’s monologue at Ai’s grave at the start of the arc. The next scene at IchigoPro is anime-original - very smooth bit of connective tissue, I think.)
Also, Abiko’s blend of insecurity and arrogance feels especially true to life. “90% of creators suck! I’m a genius! It’s other people’s fault I’m alone and suffering! I can do it all! One wrong step and the readers will abandon me! There’s no way I can act like a people person!”
As a manga reader, I love how they’ve adapted these chapters so far! Especially this episode with the Abiko-Yoriko fight! I am very excited for what’s being covered in tomorrow’s episode. Also, won’t say what, but parts of this discussion are making me very happy and excited to see what you’ll think of things later on 😉
Playboy is the name of a magazine in which many female idols of Japan are published. In the original story, Ruby visited Ai's grave and reported on the activities of Bee Komachi. In the original story, it meant that she was impatience because she was surrounded by celebrities and she was inactive. The main character of the story is Ruby, but even in the original story, Ruby's show and emotions are not depicted at all from the beginning. I think it's an omission because she rarely appears in season 2.
Enjoyed your reaction. In that amazing argument / intervention, I thought it was interesting that the point where Yoriko says Abiko began selling out by following reader polls is the same complaint Akane had regarding her character's arc. It was heart-warming seeing how much she enjoyed showing theater to Aqua.
I love that Yoriko can cite the exact volume where Abiko started pandering to readers and losing her way. Hell, she can probably cite from memory individual _chapters_ where Abiko made the most baffling decisions. This is the smack-talk of a mentor who is _still_ following her pupil’s work religiously and buying every volume (as we see on her shelf), even if she’s thinking “Girl, what are you doing? That is NOT how I taught you to build tension” while doing it.
@@IZEASGT Yeah, that was cool and a good bit of character building. Though that volume cite was also a call back to a comment Akane made earlier, where she mentions the point where Abiko started shifting the story away from Akane's princess to the fan-favorite played by Kana.
@@aqrxv Oh sure, that’s certainly clear. I was just focusing on the angle of this being a shot fired from someone who’s been paying close attention in a way that clearly shows love, even though in the moment it’s coming out harshly.
The argument was one of 3 sceans I was most looking forward to in the 2 volumes iv read ahead to be animated. Stuff like this is why with oshi no ko and kaguya and even in his cancled love agency, aka has the best charchter diologe and interactions in the manga industry right now.
40:22 You can easily see that and the other way around too when the mangaka is forced to rush and finish early because readers don't care anymore and they want it to end as soon as possible
Listened through your discussion while cooking. Great insights! OnK is actually one of two popular anime adaptations that talk extensively about the manga industry. The other one's Bakuman, made by the creators of Death Note. (Dont get me wrong, there are more but there are only two "mainstream" shows). It was quite popular back in 2010 and you'll notice how most people in the west know about the manga industry stems from this show. Like legit, what people know of the work culture and manga rating system stems back here a lot. That was why when I read OnK several years later (this was after the industry is aware of their problems), I actually thought their practises shifted to a better place and if not, at least toned down a little. Bad pacing due to an editor wanting to prolong the series has happened a lot but lately there has been a lot of series who gets to have the ending they wanted since Bakuman. So yeah 😂
An example of recently a show that was so beloved got completely tarnished is Whisper me A Love Song. Everyone was so excited for it ep1 was so good but the animation staff just dropped the ball and after it was a complete mess the last two eps are on hiatus. I feel so bad for the mangaka. But the manga is still god tier so we’re still supporting them. Some get bad luck and some get great adaptations
If Abiko and GOA re-write the relationships according to Abiko's original intent, that means that Aqua's character is going to end up with Akane's character instead of Kana's. But I'm sure that won't cause any drama, right? 😏
don't you love a show with no bad evil person, just opposing side trying to give their best and its their passion (and some misunderstanding) making them conflicting to each other

Notice that no matter how heated the argument between Abiko and Yoriko gets, neither one of them ever stops inking. Mangaka to the core!
I wonder if the voice actresses had fun in that mangaka fight. ^ - ^ That was great in so many different ways!

Him talking about weekly manga was a cry for help lmao. He takes more breaks than any other weekly mangaka I know.
I wonder if Aka Akasaka based one or both of these manga writers on himself? I guess it would be unavoidable.
The only thing we know is that he uses two toothbrushes simultaneously like Abiko (this was revealed by Ayaneru on the latest Oshi no Ko radio).
Well we did know how he thought about Kaguya sama live action adaptation
He certainly doesn't know what a bad adaptation of one of his works feels like lmao. Both Kaguya and this are blessed.
