He said he wouldn't lose to anyone in that one minute, and the animation staff made that desire come true. For one (1) full minute -- and several seconds, depending on when you start counting -- they gave Melt the most stunning animation sequence we've had this season. The fight choreography and animation were already so wonderful this episode, but this one minute life-journey felt like a love letter from the animators. I'm also a sucker for when a character says a length of time and the animation matches. The "one minute" in the stage play run-time is probably supposed to be from the point Kizami (Melt) does the comeback cool sword trick to when he falls in battle, so realistically the audience (and us) would be seeing the fight sequence (pick up sword-->LED screens flash-->Kizami charges Monme-->back-and-forth blows --> Kizami falls) as that one minute, but the staff really went above-and-beyond to illustrate what one minute of awe looks like in an animated medium. Every section and every transition was so fluid. I guess what really blew me away is how freely animated it looked -- like the storyboard direction there was simply "draw to your heart's content."
Not the first time they’ve done something like that with the on-screen time matching - if you look back at the S1 scene where they filmed the Sweet Today climax, Kana takes exactly 10 seconds to start crying.
After they turned B-Komachi's performance at the end of S1 into a full on show, I shouldn't have doubted them. What they're doing in this anime adaptation is stunning, can't wait for the rest of Tokyo Blade.
i feel like he did but not to its full potential for it to shape. i took as that he has the potential to do so if he keeps this up idunno my head canon
I think the "eyes that everyone unlocks" are always different, only Akane managed to copy it but it only meant that she understood exactly what Ai was like and what her personality was.
The thing I like about Aqua’s contribution is that it’s the exact same philosophy he follows with his own acting, in things like the Sweet Today finale - “I don’t have talent, so I’ll make use of whatever I can.” And yeah, you can tell how much interest Akasaka has in psychology! Which is a good trait for a writer, though it doesn’t mean you’ll execute it well - his recent manga Love Agency features it heavily, but only lasted about a year.
7:57 I didn't even notice the wear and tear, and even when I opened the episode again, I had to squint to see it! Either your screen is huge or Ben's eyes are 30/30
This episode hits hard. What an amazing adaptation! A secondary character like Melt gets these emotional scenes and shows how hard he tried to be good in his glorious moment. I also really liked the fact that everyone in the crowd was talking about how poor Melt's performance was, even Yoriko-sensei, only to be severely beaten for his improvisation. I was thrilled to see Yoriko's reaction when the performance ended, it proved that Melt's efforts were totally worth it.
It was great to hear the reactions as it seemed like there was a delay in uploading. I was happy to see that the animation seemed to have been reborn in the episode where Mert grew up. I am glad to hear your reactions.
I was late to the party on reactions to OnK season 1, but you quickly became my favorite reactors! I meant to comment on one of your videos a while ago, but I kept forgetting. I'm happy to be watching season 2 along with you both, now! I hope you've enjoyed it as much as I have. Cheers, and God bless you! 😊
the animation bit after Melt said he won't lose in this one minute was not in the manga, not even a single frame of it, in the manga it's just cuts to Sweet Today mangaka crying, the anime studio has done a lot of animation sequence that's not included in the manga since season 1
@@OrenawaErenJeager it wasn't because manga is short if the Mangaka thought of it he would ends the chapter when Melt said the line and would make a whole chapter dedicated to showing his efforts in the animation sequence, the anime studios don't have to include because it adds a lot of work but they did it anyway and make it the highlight of the episode
Anna is so damn good at reading the characters and the writing here. Such a breath of fresh air after being around the Oshi no Ko community as a manga reader lmao.
This was an amazing episode, it was a great redemption and development episode for Melt but also an important set up episode. It gave us an introduction to the structure of the play itself and an idea of what to expect of the performances which we needed before we get to Aqua and Akane's scenes in order for them to have the biggest emotional effect on us (and the audience).
I need to talk about this incredible animation sequence with Melt. Such incredible animation moments I call as Oshi No Ko moments for a reason. Melt had Oshi No Ko moment in this episode, but there are other characters who had such moments. Let me recount it- Ruby had this moment in Episode 1 and Episode 11 of Season 1, Aqua in Episode 1 of Season 1, Akane had this moment in Episode 8 of Season 1, but Kana had already 4 such moments: in Season 1 Episode 4 and 11, in Season 2 Episode 1 and 6. Great reaction!😃
he was trying to get to the star...and thus his performance was soo good. in oshi no ko the closer you get to have a star eyes the better you are as attention magnet
What I like about this episode is that they pull Melt's trick on us, the anime's audience. I'm sure we all want him to do well and we are all expecting him to do well because the episode is called growth, but they've really driven it into us time and time again that Melt sucks as an actor. Even in this episode his fellow actor is telling him he's the worst in the show and he's dragging down the quality just by being in it. We expect to see improvement, sure, that's how these stories go, but an impactful improvement for someone as low as Melt, ability-wise, is not expected to be the magnificant sequence we are treated to in the episode. We are still underestimating him even though we know he's going to kill it, at least by his usual standards, and they totally surprise the hell out of us in the execution. It's quite brilliant. Meta upon meta upon meta upon... 😂
This is because the author himself recommends Akua and kana. In the first stage, the author wanted to make Kana the center. That's why I just used ruby to induce it. Kana's joining the idol was not in the original plan. Ruby's behavior in the manga has been treated as a secondary character since Kana's appearance. You should realize that the relationship between Sarina and Goro is completely unnecessary. Her role is almost never in the comics. If you don't like her, you don't have to worry about that.
Melts moment here was HEAVILY elevated from the manga. It was a nice triumphant moment in the manga but nothing like this. They absolutely killed it.
He said he wouldn't lose to anyone in that one minute, and the animation staff made that desire come true. For one (1) full minute -- and several seconds, depending on when you start counting -- they gave Melt the most stunning animation sequence we've had this season. Melt's artisitic transition scene was not in the manga, which just goes to show how much love is put into the show!!!
After they turned B-Komachi's performance at the end of S1 into a full on show, I shouldn't have doubted them. What they're doing in this anime adaptation is stunning, can't wait for the rest of Tokyo Blade.
I was in tears by the end of Melts performance. I’m so proud of him. The animators and staff went above and beyond
12:55 I didn’t even realize I held my breath thinking Melt had pulled an Akane and unlocked a star in his eye 😂 Stole the show this ep👏🏼
They really made it into like an anime superpower you can unlock lol
i feel like he did but not to its full potential for it to shape. i took as that he has the potential to do so if he keeps this up idunno my head canon
I think the "eyes that everyone unlocks" are always different, only Akane managed to copy it but it only meant that she understood exactly what Ai was like and what her personality was.
No fr, Melt was our collective child this episode. I felt legitimately proud of him and all the effort he put into acting.
this season is blowing me away, man, crazy good
be ready you're going to be fully blown in next 2 episodes
Every episode from this moment on is gonna be better and better
It is one of the best arcs in the series for a reason
The thing I like about Aqua’s contribution is that it’s the exact same philosophy he follows with his own acting, in things like the Sweet Today finale - “I don’t have talent, so I’ll make use of whatever I can.”

Let’s goooo melt redemption, the animators cooked this episode
7:57 I didn't even notice the wear and tear, and even when I opened the episode again, I had to squint to see it! Either your screen is huge or Ben's eyes are 30/30

The "Melt chasing the star moment" was so good I cried.
It was great to hear the reactions as it seemed like there was a delay in uploading.

Thanks a lot for your great x2 reaction and video ! ....this is the epic animation

Cried both times I saw Melt cry 🥲
Great reaction!
That. Episode. Was. Beautiful.
Awesome!
No, that last sequence wasn't actually the part of the source, kuddos to animation team

yeah, akane and aqua is such a toxic relationship, both of them doesn't suit and will only destroy each other. good job pointing that up

Not a single sentence in this comment it true, btw. Do you pretent to be a manga reader to sound smart?
