A small correction. “Prospero Burns” is actually the 15th book in the Horus Heresy collection. So if you read it in order you would read “A Thousand Sons” (Book 12) first. I think the author chose a more skimmed version in “Prospero Burns” because if you read in order you would already know the more detailed battle from “A Thousand Sons”.
I'd start with either the first Horus Heresy Book "Horus Rising" OR read "Gaunt's Ghosts, The Founding". 1. is a massive intro to the whole universe and the main plotline of 40k. 2. is an incredible story about a group of regular human soldiers that get sent to the front lines after losing their homeworld.
