    0:41 It's called "Effort justification." It's related to the ikea effect and sunk cost fallacy, but it's not the same thing. It's a common factor in cult behavior. They tend to have very demanding behaviors required to join the cult. So after you get in, you justify the effort because you don't want it to be waisted. From there, the cult can get people to believe some pretty crazy stuff. I don't know how I feel about effort justification as a writing technique. On one hand, I do think Lord of the Rings is elevated by the fact that it's written in a way that makes it feel like an old tail passed down through the ages. And the little bit of effort it takes to understand the dead references and the like. On the other hand, let's just say I don't agree with this appraisal of Memories of Ice.

I’m currently in that zone where I know I need to stop but I just keep using it. I just can’t seem to go even one day without and I have a lot of shame around using it every time I fail my goals (I’m dependant) have CPTSD so it can be very difficult but I’ll get there one day I hope. One thing that happened to me after 20 years of smoking weed is that it stopped helping me forget about unpleasant things, and it started amplifying them. This was actually a good thing for me, because instead of getting high and feeling good, I would get high and start feeling really guilty about it. I would think of all of the things that I should be doing, but can't do because now I'm high. High me didn't want to be high, it only sounded good when I was sober... eventually high me decided, that I love weed, but I just can't do it anymore. I hope everyone watching this can get to this point.

    SPOILERS: The tiste edur that bug kills when defending tehol (by dumping him into the warren of ruse at a crushing water depth) is the tiste edur body that Paran and Quick Ben find in book 3, Memories of Ice. They come close to figuring out what killed him. Their best guess was rapid decompression, but they couldn't figure out how that was possible. Bug was so pissed off, he yeeted that edur down and through the warren of ruse and the body popped up on another continent, flopped up and out of a shallow stream on the opposite side of the world.

    A small correction. “Prospero Burns” is actually the 15th book in the Horus Heresy collection. So if you read it in order you would read “A Thousand Sons” (Book 12) first. I think the author chose a more skimmed version in “Prospero Burns” because if you read in order you would already know the more detailed battle from “A Thousand Sons”.

    Quitting over and over and over again for 50 years, I regret ever quitting all those times. If you don't have issues that require cannabis, you probably shouldn't use it. It's not a party drug, but stress medicine. In particular, it has always been the preferred stress medicine the traumatized victims of 60 years of violent and sexually perverse alcohol related crimes, including the sexual abuse of 10s of millions of children, used to treat traumatic stress and other disorders. Make sure you are not taking us back to being ruled by alcoholics and codependents who waged war on the traumatized victims of the nation's drunken debauchery.

    • @taylor-kenny

      This video was based on my personal experience. Weed certainly helped me disassociate from issues I needed to face, but did not help me solve them. I don't think it should be illegal though. If it helps you then great. I just would never go back to using it on a regular basis. Also alcohol is terrible as well. I think both can be harmful if abused.

      @bryantsamperi3402 4 месяца назад

      @@taylor-kenny Agreed. I am grateful you don't need it and I didn't mean to come across negatively. I am trying to point out the fact that dissociative disorders for millions was due to their trauma, then exacerbated by alcoholic and codependent authorities who waged war on them and natural stress medicine. Furthermore, this is the primary reason for just about every social crisis we face, from a TRILLIONS economic deficit, to a mental health crisis, to a drug crisis, to powerful cartels threatening nation security whose empires were built on a foundation the only competitor to alcohol and stress medicine of those traumatized by it's violence and sexual perversion - cannabis.

    Deadhouse Gates is one of the best books I ever read. What people seem to miss with Malazan is you need to take the book in as if you are a person there watching the conversation taking place. Subtleties of conversation are not explained to you as if you are a distant observer, but rather a person there observing a real in person conversation. That will help to pick up on the flow of conversation. No big information drops, you need to pick up on styles of conversation, as you do in a real life conversation

  • @PrayAlways222-dj2kr
    @PrayAlways222-dj2kr 5 месяцев назад

    I just finished MOI and I agree. One of the best books I have ever read. I may put Deadhouse Gates slightly higher on my list but MOI is right there. As for Steve’s writing style, I personally like it. You have to pay attention to pick up on the innuendos as there are no spoon feed information drops and conversation are as you would expect a conversation to flow in the real world, again with no information drops to hold your hand. The book definitely touched on relationships, self reflection and redemption. I love how his prologue is in a way a metaphor for what is to come in the book. I really enjoyed Lady Envy and I hope she reappears in the following books. I also really enjoyed the ending scene with Tool and felt it was well deserved. Odd to say but I miss this book even though I just finished it

    "It can take such a long time before you realize it's an issue" No shit, Sherlock. I'm 60 and have been a daily user for 40 plus years. Stopped smoking 3 weeks ago. (I've taken little mini-breaks in the past but never with the intention of stopping completely). As age creeps up, it's also the lung damage that I have been steadily become more aware of. I have been in denial from the negative effects, like to my apathy towards socializing, general motivation, yada yada. I would go to parties and find it difficult to talk to people I didn't know. I went to a garden party this past Saturday and I can honestly say I had a much more interactive time which made the afternoon so much more enjoyable than before, when in my awkwardness, I would sidle off and take a "hit". This would previously leave me aimlessly wandering around, not able to summon up the courage to "break the ice". It's just a vicious cycle. Yes, there are some issues that I'm currently experiencing like some crazy dreams [and] in general, fairly disrupted sleep patterns. It's a relief to know that this is just a part of the detox process and once through this bit of the journey, my body and mind is set to re-balance. My advice to anyone, "Don't leave it as long as I did, [although] it's never too late to break the habit".

    Idk. I'm smoking 5-10 grams a month, and I feel like it's not messing that much with me. Though, I haven't taken more than 6 days off in a row for quite a while. I might just be an addict making excuses, but I do believe that if you can control your dosage to a small amount, it doesn't really affect you to any significant degree.

      That amount definitely isn’t an addiction

    Great video! I am a 60 yr old GRANDMA who reads hundreds of quick romances and also loves Jane Austen bahaha. I’ve read and loved Lord of the Rings and The Silmarillion. My adult son TRICKED me into reading Gardens of the Moon and I didn’t realize how long it was when I started lol. I am almost to the last book and this series is unbelievably rich and wonderful! I think it even beats Tolkien. The language and the way Erikson has such a deep grasp of the human condition. I laugh and cry and smile and giggle all through the books. Wonderful characters. It helps to do as you say and not spend time trying to figure out every little thing but keep moving. It also helps to take a short break, read another totally different genre like a romance and come back quickly. The audio books are also wonderful. When I finish, I’m going to start over from the beginning because I’ll be able to read all the finer points, hints and clues that I missed the first time. It really is life changing. ❤❤❤

    9:40 you're still getting REM sleep and dreaming, the REM cycle is just shortened. This is also why you're less likely to remember dreams while smoking. In fact, the best time to remember a dream is being woken up during the middle of it. Quitting smoking also provides the perfect opportunity to practice lucid dreaming however I'd be careful as the amount of misinformation is vast

      @@taylor-kenny well you're reading the wrong books. Why do you think you get so many comments and views?? Answer: because they are pop culture nothing books for the masses.

      @@alan6747 This series is not for the masses lol I think you should do more research about Malazan. Did you know anything about this series before dropping this comment?

      Judging from your sheer lack of knowledge regarding Malazan, it’s relative lack of popularity and reasons for it, and it’s actual thematic content, this comment is either straight up stupid or pointless rage bait.

    I should mention (in a non spoiler way) that there was a particularly large event that happened towards the end of the book that I don't discuss in this video. TBH I felt like it was jammed in to speed up the HH plot. Though the event itself has pretty big implications for Imperium Secundus and the Primarchs involved in this novel.

    Joe knows things. Much like Malazan. The type of books we rate it higher looking back. I think this 3 is 1 story, we just can’t read it alone or rate them. I wonder what his agent or more his publisher thought when they got the first book. These are huge risk factors. No matter how high is the rate now, the Blade Itself is not the best when you open it up just for the first few page. And it doesn’t work alone.

      That's good to know! I've been listening to book 3 and I have to say that I'm really falling in love with the series now. Things are beginning to click more. I can totally see how on a re-read these would be even better.

    the problem is prohibition, i guarentee if you had high quality hash oil and a way to consume it in a non combustable way instead of straight flower your would NEVER cheef all day, it becomes inpossoble. made possible only by the broken system forcing people to rely on sketchy ways to use and buy cannabis.
