I've owned my 997.1 turbo tiptronic for 5 years now and have no thoughts of ever getting rid of it. Ultra reliable and a thrill to drive every time I take her out. Of course maintenance as with any car is a must but yearly routine attention to things like coolant hoses, oil changes, tire wear and brakes are about all there is to ownership. I've taught my grandson all there is that I know about the 911 in anticipation of passing it on to him because the 997.1 turbo is an heirloom car in my opinion.
I completely agree. I was planning to buy a 997 Turbo MT but decided to drive my buddies 997.1 Turbo Tip and was immediately sold. I’m in my 50s and use it as my daily driver and a weekend GT car and it is awesome. Had I been 25-30 I would have probably opted for the MT. Between the Mezger engine and the Merc Trip there isn’t a car anywhere near its performance with this level of reliability.
I have a 997.1 Turbo with the Tiptronic S. It is the ideal transmission honestly. A lot of attention goes to the 6-speed manual which yes, it's more fun but the Turbo runs better with the Tiptronic S. I have a titanium X-pipe, no mufflers, high-flow GESI cats, Sport Design Alcantara steering wheel with paddles, Softronic 93 octane ECU, Markski Tuning TCU (50% faster shifts and higher rpm shifts), PASM with a DSC controller and launch controller, upgraded Sharkswerks cooling lines, TechArt Springs, BBS wheels etc. I have optimized this car with it's stock turbos and intercoolers. You can say what you want about having a manual, but this car is fun... 610hp/600lbsft to wheels and super comfortable. The perfect sports car.
Thanks James, and wow what a specification. I totally agree about the Tiptronic S really suiting the Mezger 3.6 Twin-turbo engine characteristics perfectly. I really secretly want to keep this 911 Turbo for myself, I would do many of the enhancements you suggest if I did! Enjoy it for many more miles and years! Raj
Another great video! You certainly know your Porsches, have saved this turbo and been watching it for a while on eBay, just got to let my immaculate e46 M3 go so I can add to the funds and make my lifetime dream purchase.
Just spent my first year with a 997.1 turbo tiptronic. Love the car size since later the 911s grew quite much.. Totally agree with the dual personality aspect. The car drives according to your ”mood” at the given moment. Another exhaust is recommended though. Love the cargraphic sound which in my opinion gives even more goosbumbs (in tunnels 😊)
Thanks Deagle, they are sensational Porsche! I am sure new tuneful exhaust would suit the car, I try to sell completely standard where possible, but definitely recommend items like the cargraphic system you have. Thanks, Raj
Great review, I've been looking at 996 turbo for a while now but prices keep going up for decent examples to a point where they are close to 997,love the classic shape/size of the 996/997, is the 997 worth the 10-15k premium over the 996 or 20-25 for manual?😬👍
Thanks Stuart, 911 Turbo, any era will always be valued and hopefully appreciating too, they are all different and have their charms, but 996 Turbo onwards are truly all year round supercars, adding to their appeal in my opinion. I would say the 997 are worth the premium. Many thanks, Raj
It terms of fit out, I’ve put 78,000 miles on my 997.1 Turbo Tip and there is not a squeak or rattle to be heard and there never has been one that needs to be fixed.

Amazing story, what a great heirloom for the family to carry on owning! Enjoy and thanks so much, Raj

Thanks Basher, it is a great example, I definitely have a soft spot for it myself! Cheers, Raj

That’s an incredible looking example, the extra carbon options are very nice.
Thank you so much!

This in a manual and some Fuchs is ideal 😊
Sounds great! I love Fuchs
