  • In this video I get to drive a 911 for the first time and its a stunning Porsche 911 Turbo ! This car is a 997 Gen 1.5 Turbo. That means it has the engine from the Gen 1 car with the improved interior from the Gen 2. The perfect combination !
    I give you an overview of the inside and outside of this stunning car and then take it out on the road and talk through the various driving modes available. Let's just say it's FAST !!! 480bhp with 620nm. It will do 0-60 in 3.5 seconds and tops out at just over 190mph !!
    I want to say a huge thanks to Chris Thwaites and the guys at Harbour Cars for letting me film and drive this car. I appreciate your support and hope I have done the car justice with this film.
    This car is for sale so if you are interest in it or any of their vehicles then get in touch...they certainly know their stuff.

    My best mate has the 1.5 in black, manual,, it's a crazy car! That engine is nuts 👀😳.
    I have a 997 c2s with various upgrades but the turbo 1.5 is brilliant... The only car to ever surprise me by its kick at the back😳. And the grip... Holly cricket... This thing just grips the road as if it was on rail 😳

    I own a 2007 997.1 Turbo with manual gearbox, ceramics, sports exhaust and a mild DMS remap (560bhp). Owned it 7 years and still love every moment driving it. A very fast A to B car, compact, fast, awesome braking, buy one before the prices go silly (they're already on the up).

      Absolutely agree with you on everything, i have an original millenium edition 911 C4 and i have owned it for nearly 16 of its 18 years and i still love it, i am looking for something a little quicker (mind you not that i need it as it is, as you know, quick all around) maybe a 6 to 8 year old turbo or 991 C4S. Thanks fro sharing, cheers

      Does the tune (DMS remap and the sports exhaust) make a big difference? I will go see a 997 Turbo later this week and I have been browsing remaps for the car. It already has a sports exhaust, but they didn‘t tune the engine. I have already been in touch with DMS about it, though.

    The 911. An everyday super car and quite possibly THE only one. Porsche know just how to make the 911. They've been doing it for decades and they just get better and better.
    EDIT - Did we like this video as much as you did driving it? Hell no!! Totally jealous mate. Great video though of probably my top car ever. Only the Turbo S tops it!!

    Great video, really enjoy it. I e just bought a 996 Turbo from a garage near Guildford. He had a 997 Turbo Gen 1.5 which he was trying his hardest to sell me in White it looked and drove like the dogs bits and bobs amazing. But I think they will still drop £ for a while so I got the 996. But that's what I want next. Best engine and best interior. Also they didn't make many, surely a future classic.

    I own a tiptronic Turbo and they are fine. Quicker than a manual and twenty grand cheaper than PDK. If they were that bad why are so many auto. A truly brilliant car, ignore what people say about the tip. These cars will only go one way once people realise how bland the new ones are. A future classic, and a great accurate review, thanks.

    I've just this car,you want to know how hard this thing goes,standing start,push sport mode,put car in drive now pull gear lever to the right,your now in manual mode check the dash make sure your in 1st,take a deep breath, now floor it and watch the rev counter once you hit red line hit the gear lever left ,spec's say this car will do 0 to 100km in 12.1 seconds, believe me it will do it in 11 seconds neat,
    If you don't put the car in manual mode and you take off in drive,your taking off in second gear,mines completely stock,love it every time I drive it,

      Cool stuff. On the tip although it normally pulls off in 2nd gear to aid smoothness you can select first on the steering wheel using the button and remain in auto. So good in auto can't normally be bothered with the buttons pass selecting first if I am on it. Tip learns your driving styles and two rapid quick taps of the accelerator brings you down two gears. If you are not a driving god, tip is great.

    The turbo is a pussy-cat, until it isn't! Once you drop the hammer...well you'll see. :) The turbo with a tiptronic isn't a wrong choice and 95% of the time, if you are an urban dweller. it is the right choice. The CEO of Porsche said the Turbo is for the successful 50 year old who has been there and done that. I got mine at 49, so I guess he knows what he is talking about. As in this video, mine is a 2009 as well, tiptronic, black on tan interior, same spec minus the rear wiper (I have never seen a 911 here in the USA with a wiper) and carbon fiber steering wheel. It is a keeper for sure!

    I have the Cab version of this car with ceramic brakes, tip unfortunately, but still awesome. I have a 2012 Coupe with PDK. They are both amazing cars, and if I had to sell one, it would make for sleepless nights. I love the ceramic brakes, and zero brake dust. I love the PDK in the 997.2. The 09 feels more old school with the Tip, and is detectably not as fast as the 2012, but is plenty fast enough for a Cab, and I rarely use it with the top up. These are great cars for the money, and should hold their value now. Great review, thanks.

  • @milohajek

    Yes they are epic-ally fast, granted they are not a Ferrari or Lamborghini or McLaren, but then again those cars aren't practical for every day use and you constantly have to worry about costs and the initial cost output in the beginning opposed to a Porsche which is actually an affordable sports car. P.S. I owned a Ferrari 550 for a few years and looking back it seems like it spent more time in the spring and winter in the shop for maintenance, tuning, and other repairs were as the 911 i have (or my Audi A6) have just been gas, tires, brakes, and continue to drive with the occasional oil change (every 3k-5k, 7k-10k in the 911 according to the book), and every 2-4 years a brake fluid and coolant flush, and that has pretty much been the extent of it. This is how it should be, and you should get to drive the car you love more than you spend in time at the shop, this is just one reason why you don's see many Ferrari's, Lamborghini's, McLaren's, etc with more than 20k-30k miles on them and that is because of all the constant maintenance you really run out of time to actually drive the cars. Porsche, there really is no substitute.

    • @velcingilles3756
      @velcingilles3756 Год назад +1

      I could not agree more! I haven't been fortunate to own exotic cars such as Ferraris, Lamborghinis, Maserati or McLarens, but I have a Porsche 911 c2s and it could easily be used as a daily driver. Not that I would as I work from home🤣 most of the time these days, but with a Porsche you can just do that, whilst with any other exotic cars you'd be scared and you'd spend an absolute fortune in servicing costs! Obviously, Porsche prices aren't the same as what you pay for your workhorse Vauxhall (for example) but the cost is nowhere near what you'd pay with a Ferrari/McLaren, Lambo etc... Furthermore, given the state of our roads in the UK (but in Europe too), I have no idea why one would need a Ferrari/McLaren etc... A Porsche might not necessarily be faster (depending on the model) but you can't drive much these days, anywhere! In Germany you could have a blast on the autobahn ok, but fast on a straight line is fun for 2 min and then what?!? Even a Porsche is hard to really fully appreciate on our roads, as these are so busy, let alone a Ferrari... And on top of that, you'd look like a rich so and so in one of those, whilst the Porsche is relatively acceptable and more mainstream...

    Absolutely love the spa shirt close to my all time favorite car. But I'm the manual transmission guy. And I'm not a fan of four wheel drive cars. That means a simple Carrera S is my dream car. But as a working class American I settle for a simple Volkswagen GTI. I know when your last comment to me you said the Aston Martin was your favorite car. That you had driven to that point Porsche the winningest sports car manufacture in racing history. The every day super car but as a working class American slob. I absolutely love your reviews most Americans wouldn't understand The incredible corners that are listed on your shirt. And here in the US you'll never find one of those shirts. With the working class budget that would be about the only thing I could afford. lol

    Was the 997 turbo Gen 1.5 back in 2009 available option in the USA? What is an easy way to tell when searching 2009 997 turbo that it is a gen 1.5 and not a gen 2? Meaning searching from the VIN or some identification mark other than physically being there to inspect if it's a DI or the older gen 1 motor.

    Just come across this old review - not sure if you’ve driven many 911’s since - but your review was spot on - I’ve spent a lot of time driving 997’s, and for me the Turbo is the most disappointing of the range, and doesn’t give you the joy of a 911 - and that’s completely down to the lack of noise ... best 997 is arguably the base Carrera (like the one on my drive at the moment 😂)

I tonights video I drive a 991 Targa 4S along side a Maserati Grand Turismo in a guide to buying a used supercar. The Targa has a sports exhaust and sound totally stunning. Great to drive and I now love 911s VERY much :-) The GT3 RS was toally off the scale and I was lucky enough to drive it on circuit !

      Oh the 911 by miles ! Sadly though there is a £40k price difference between them so for the money the Boxster is a bargain !

    Mezger Mezger Mezger! My only hate about 911 fan boys and drivers. The engines on the 997.1 suffer bore scoring and coolant pipe issues.
    Before the whole “it’s more tuneable” crap starts, most the people who tune these will do an exhaust and filter and that’s it. Granted they are very tuneable but wasn’t the right engine for the 997 chassis.
    The Gen2 was a more well rounded car. Better engine and better gearbox. Not as tuneable as the Mezger but a better engine for a road car where the Gen1 was a GT1 engine that was showing its age in the 997.1!

    The manual system seems a huge letdown. Is there any way if you bought this car to have it converted to use the paddles?
    Great video btw.
    If I were to buy a car like that I think I would have to get the manual

    • @PetrolPed
      @PetrolPed  8 лет назад

      I don't know Eddie but I doubt it very much as the paddles came with the PDK gearbox which is a different gearbox. The Tiptronic system works really well though. I do like a manual change, nothing like swapping cogs yourself !

      +Petrol Ped what they should be bringing back into every single sports car is a proper gated manual gearbox. Sat in a manual ftype the other day and the gear stick slightly disappointed me

      You can retrofit the Gen.2 PDK steering onto the gen.1 cars. It's been done many times. Check out 911uk.com for details.

      There's a guy on 911 UK forum who was selling steering wheels modified with Mercedes AMG alloy paddles wired to the original tiptronic system!
      I believe it gave a more positive feeling to the gear change!

    Very nice review. I've not driven a Porsche yet, tbh out of my price range. Here is a question, the 911 or for the same price the F-type you drove in a previous video?

    • @PetrolPed
      @PetrolPed  8 лет назад +1

      Hi Rob. Great question ! For the same money (£55-58k) you could get a nice V8 F Type Convertible and that might just steal my heart !!
      This car was amazing though. Very practical and SO fast !!!

      911 value isn’t gonna go down then the F type but both amazing cars
