    Thanks for the video. Many reviewers have said the image quality is pretty much the same for photos. Thank you Alex for actually testing them side by side.

    This is the first time I've seen the R6 II to be darker than the R6. In all my research and my own experience, the R6 II is about 1/3 stop brighter than the R6.
    I got the R6 II a month ago and I'm just so blown away I can't tell you how happy I am. I shot hockey with it a couple days ago and the images are so clean, and the AF is just so accurate I didn't think anything like this could be possible... and I've shot as a pro with Canon's best 1D cams for about 12 years! And I was using the EF 70-200 2.8 adapted. The autofocus didn't miss, not even once and I was able to get full H+ speeds (12 FPS).
    The added 20% resolution also is really nice because it's hard to get every photo perfectly level, etc, so when I did fix a few, they were still more than 20 MP that you get from the original R6. They also upscale to 45 MP and have about the same detail as the R5 when zoomed in to 100% (I did extensive tests).
    Also, I got the R6 II for the same sale price as the new reduced price of the R6! $3099 in Canada! This is about $400 cheaper than the price of the original R6 when it came out. I've never been happier with any camera/system in 15 years of photography.

      I only own the R6 now but am thinking about pulling the trigger on the mk2. I know the r6 shoots 12 bit for some raw formats and for electronic shutter. The r6 mk2 drops from 14 to 12 for electronic shutter in burst mode but not sure about other modes with electronic. Might be worth checking your raw files to see what the final bit depth was? It could explain some of that file size.

    Hey Alex thanks for the raw files once again. Edited them. They are almost identical barely see four megapixel bump but the markii has a drop more noise prob from the high mp count. But negligible. Friend of mine got the upgrade to the Markii and he ended up returning it because at a wedding he told me it wasn’t as accurate in the auto focus it wasn’t catching the iris so he just kept his R6.

    R6 Mark I has richer color and tonality in this comparison. It's subtle but clearly visible. Look at ISO 12800 wooden panel and golden text and face sculpture which has richer color with more tones in the R6 mark I image. The R6 Mark II looks slightly desaturated in comparison. I took a reading off the screen with a digital color meter and the dark wooden tones has higher red and blue CIELAB values.

    This is a simple video, but it is great! I was considering the upgrade, but now it showed me it is totally unnecessary, except for a slight difference in color rendering. Also, the Mark II has some important upgrades for videographers. And has no magnesium alloy body, for those who constantly abuse the camera or use it in harsh conditions. Thanks, Alex!

  • @AnandaGarden

    Thank you. As Katelyn James has noted, the raw files out of the R6 are flat and gray. When processed, of course, they look fantastic, but my question about the II has been whether that's changed, as a slightly faster workflow would be a small plus, added to unlimited video which would be a big plus for me.

    Thanks for this video, helped me a lot clear my mind and choose the right Camera.
    I'm an event photographer ( I work for music Festival Organizations) but mainly I do cerimonies. Last summer I had the chance to try the Canon r6 paired with the Canon rf 70 200 f4 because a friend of mine owns one and I feel in love suddently. The colors are so beautiful, the Af is amazing, the images are very sharp and despite the 20mxp I did some heavy crops to some images without ruin it, still keeping a good quality of sharpness. Also I agree with Alex when he said he shoot comfortable at 12.800 ISO, I did too and the small amount of noise it's well acceptable. To be honest as a owner of a Canon r5 I probably like to choose the r6 over the r5, that's because the files are so light and the ISO performance. Using for a couple of days I felt this bound that I don't have with the r5 ( exceptional camera, nothing to say). I wouldn’t spend €1,000 and over for a Mark II to get same results and 20 fps are already enough for me.

    The R6 mark ii images (when shooting people/portraits) have an artificial clinically sharp look to them which I do not like. Both the R6 and R5 have this stunning cinematic quality in their photo's, I find that this quality and feel is missing in the R6 Mark ii images. I too thought that the clinically sharp, almost lifeless, empty and artificial look was caused by removing the low pass filter. But it seems it is caused by some artificial sharpening system? It is especially noticeable and disturbing while shooting people/portraits. I will definitely keep my original R6, as I feel it has the perfect look and balance while the R6 mark ii does not give me the look I want and feels a bit like a failed experiment with the (overly) artificial sharpness. The R7 seems to have this same problem.

    • @TomislavMoze
      @TomislavMoze Год назад

      Interesting I never noticed that. The files look similar to the R6 and R5 if you ignore the different mpx size. Do you shoot raw or JPG?

    • @mariavanschie7946
      @mariavanschie7946 Год назад +2

      @@TomislavMoze I shoot both raw and JPG. Yes, people/portrait shooters all complain about this artificial sharpening on the R6 mark ii but wildlife phorographers and videographers seem to like it as it is less noticeable/less disturbing there, maybe even welcome for cropping. Canon refuses to say what has caused this difference, but the only thing I can find is in the advanced user guide of the R6 mark ii. They speak of an artificial "Diffraction correction". Corrects degraded resolution not only from defraction but also from the low-pass filter and other factors". The artificial correction is also effective for exposures with the aperture wide open. Maybe Canon recognizes that it is a failed experiment and doesn't want to explain any further? After all, this is really still the early stages of mirrorless. But I prefer the natural look and sharpness balance of the R6 and R5.

      @@mariavanschie7946 my main work is portrait and didn't noticed it. But I only shoot raw and I use Adobe Camera Raw formy raw processing. Also have a lot of friends that went upgrading the R and R6 to R6mk2 and this is the first time I hear that. But if tyou want to turn off Diffraction correction you first have to set Digital lens optimizer to off.
      as stated in the manual.👇
      [Diffraction correction] is not displayed when [Digital Lens Optimizer] is set to [Standard] or [High].
      Maybe this helps.

      @mariavanschie7946 Год назад +1

      @@TomislavMoze I had borrowed the R6 mark ii for a week to see if I wanted to upgrade but gave it back and decided not to buy it because of the artificial sharpness look on the mark ii. I own the original R6, and the artificial sharpness difference seems to persist when those settings were turned off on both camera's. There is a difference even when sharpness optimizer or the other aberration functions are turned off on both camera's (original settings). The problem may lie somewhere else.
