I Built My Own Edelkrone JibONE For Free!

  • I built my own Edelkrone JibONE for free using spare parts and pieces laying around my studio. The new JibOne looks really cool, but I definitely don't have $1,000 laying around to get just the jib, not including the motorized head and other accessories. So, instead I decided to see if I could put my own little jib together using a gimbal, tripod, monitor and some other pieces.

      Great idea, but the main reason I purchased the JibONE was for motion time Lapses. Now watching you slowly move this jig for a 2 hour astro time lapse would be great content, lol.
      But seriously great idea, I do like being able to have multiple uses for expensive gear, subscribing!

    I dont understand folks who get mad or write ignorant comments..he took the time to show the folks how to build a jib with a gimbal..yeah he mess up saying free so what human mistake..if you have the parts lying around go make one out n test it..if you have the 3000 grand to get all the parts from elkdrone sorry if i misspelled that..get their complete kit..because that s how much its going to cost..n if u don't have neither welp work hard n save up get the pieces needed at your own pace..keep up the great work..

    You've cured my Edeldrone envy. I just watched a demo of the jibONE an hour before this vid of yours. This is an imaginative use of things at hand. I don't get enough work to justify all the expensive new toys.
    In a pinch I can use my 5 foot monopod as an extension to the 3 axis gimbal. The gimbal didn't come with an extension tube. I won't clamp it in the tripod all the way to the tip because the monopod tubes are too thin to trust, but it could probably help with counterbalance out the back. Maybe 3 / 3.5 feet of gimbal extension. I'm not using a full weight DSLR anyway so weight is well under a kilogram.

    The jib is actually for people who film them self and dont have a cameraguy but want those dynamic cameramovement... But i agree with the rest. I dont like using apps and like to make the movement on my own. In my case it makes sense to get more movement to the video instead of left to right and up and down.
    For product shots it's just a nerdy expensive thing.

    • @chadwin

  • @stevendiffey9162
    @stevendiffey9162 3 года назад +1

    Sure it isn’t a JibOne and not motorised but it’s a great standard jib solution. I do this with a monopod - not for huge reach like peeps are suggesting but to extend the back distance and place a 2.5kg (5ish pound) counterweight for balance. Works well for lots of shots. I’ve got a large jib but like so much equipment it’s not always convenient or gets left behind because of size and weight - awesome hack man. Well done.

    Thanks for the great video! I actually use the Sly Pod from Moza and it can screw on to the tripod and work exactly like that! And other great features is because it mount on the middle part of it, so the weight distribution isn't a problem even if I extend the sly pod out. Oh, and the sly pod has motorize extension, so the movement is like butter smooth.

    ok its the same
    but you pay a edelkrone jib just for the app and the robotic feel

    I have planned, after the temperature outside warms up, to put a gimbal at the end of a painter's pole (using a 1/4-20 adapter I have from B&H) to do basically the same thing. Like your idea of the tripod, may add that to the mix.

    • @chadwin
      @chadwin  4 года назад

      Michael Andreas it must be cold where you’re at. I’m already wearing short sleeves most day’s in Arizona haha! 🌵
      Using a long painters pole would definitely work! I’d just test it out first to make sure it all holds up before putting your expensive cam on the end.

    what makes the Edelkrone JibONE what it is is it's ability to move via wireless access. its a motorized Jib, not just a gimbal on a tripod that requires physical movement.

    • @chadwin
      @chadwin  4 года назад

      Pierson's Photography very true. The jobONE has many more abilities and features. Mine is just a raw version of a jib to get the job done.

    • @_Pwhare
      @_Pwhare 4 года назад

      @@chadwin yeah it a 5Head way of making a DIY Jib, it's just not a JibONE from Edelkrone yknow?

  • @AustralianImage
    @AustralianImage 4 года назад +4

    That brought a smile to my face, because after I saw the Edelkrone jib, I tried exactly the same thing. In my case I attached my AK2000 to a Sirui monopod and my BMPCC4K to the gimbal. I also have a Benro S8 fluid head on a Leofoto tripod. The wide base of the monopod head gave the base of the gimbal a pretty good support, even with the 1/4" thread, and it's possible to add weights to the end of the monopod if necessary. I was very surprised at how smoothly the jib worked. It's something that's not cumbersome to take anywhere and probably faster to assemble than the Edelkrone. And, like you, I'm not a fan of apps.
    And if you do want to get technical, the Moza Slypod could be used with a gimbal and you'd have the ability to extend and all the rest.

    • @chadwin
      @chadwin  4 года назад

      Australian Image Australian Image that’s crazy!! I guess great minds really do think alike my friend. Sounds like we both built the same rig almost.
      I need to try my 6k and monopod on it now!! 🧐👻

    • @AustralianImage
      @AustralianImage 4 года назад +1

      I don't think you'll have any problems with the P6K. Mine balances with a SmallRig cage, Samsung SSD and holder, Sony NP-F battery plate (it has a Weipu power connector) with 570 battery and lens (600g). Still trying to figure out balancing with my new mic.
      Just to be certain the gimbal secured properly to the monopod, I first removed the battery cover, screwed that onto the monopod head and then reattached the gimbal. Now that we look like having some decent weather for a while, I'm going to test it out with some outdoor shots.

  • @AndrewSouthworth
    @AndrewSouthworth 4 года назад +1

    Isn't the whole point of the JibOne that its does the Jib aspect motion controlled? What you have here is really just a gimbal on a manual jib. Its a cool way to get the job done manually, don't get me wrong, but its not the same thing.

    • @chadwin
      @chadwin  4 года назад +1

      You're 💯 correct! This just a manual jib, only meant to get the job done at no additional cost if you already have the parts. It's by no means a replacement for the jibOne which has many more automatic and precise features.

Could you or someone post a link to that product? I know it's modular also, and bonus points for anyone who can find other parts on that backdrop.
