Once I used my old lego motor to make motorized slider from standard, attached strings to camera, which pulled product into the shot. One of my first shoots, fun times))) Hey btw, you used autofocus in this video, or pulled it manually?
I prefer to be focus in his successes! Btwy I will not call it "mistakes", There is a method named "Trial and Error", is a heuristic method for obtaining knowledge, both propositional and procedural. It consists of trying an alternative and verifying if it works. If so, there is a solution. In photography or filmmaking there are so many possibilities to place a camera, a light, a tripod, a slider, a microphone, an object, a person, a face, that inevitably we have to TRY different options with different results, not mistakes, only different results. Congratulations to Austen!
Just recently I’ve built and tested out my first camera slider using nothing more than roller blade parts, salvaged tracking lighting rails, and a piece of scrap wood. Amazing how nice the shots look and what you can get out of it! Thank you for making this video and inspiring some ideas how I can best use it for client work. 👍 I don’t have much to spend on gear like what you’ve shown here. Guess I’ll need to keep being innovative. 🤷🏻♂️
This is excellent stuff to learn. I love that you're presenting the unvarnished scenes and you seem like a genuine fellow and it's great to find your work. Thankyou. The final result is gorgeous too :)
Another excellent video that has opened my mind up in new ways.. Wow 100K followers. I've been here since 8000 wondering why you didn't have more. Damn good job and congratulations.
Awesome as usual! One note for sliders, if using the Rhino or any slider that doesn't have the motor in the case, make sure you pack it! I just had a shoot where I got everything set up for my B cam (slider) and realized the motor was 2,000 miles away. Luckily it didn't effect the shoot much, but it could have been bad. I'm usually really good with packing, but my Rhino doesn't have space in the provided case for the motor, so I overlooked it. I now have a note in the case that says, "PACK THE MOTOR!" I'll never forget it again.
Awesome Tips and tricks video. I appreciate the effort going into producing it, new subscriber here. Unfortunately the $741.90 (AUD) to join your course is a little more than I can afford right now. I am in awe of your passion to get the super cool shots. Cheers from Western Australia.
Thanks Austen. You always come up with a very interesting video. Quite informative it was. Thanks for all the efforts you put in to teach us the nitty gritty of product videography.
Fantastic video! I was wondering whether to get a motorized vs a mechanical slider (I prefer the simplest, most versatile and less dependent upon electricity gadgets, when they work) and I now think mechanical is the way to go for me. and I wonder... which budget smooth mechanical slider can you recommend for use mainly with a DSLR (canon d80) and a serious pro camcorder (Panasonic x1500 professional camcorder)
Hi @austenpaul I noticed in second :43 you are using a filter on your lens. What filter and lens are you using here on the R5? Also, what did you do to the Amara light and what is hanging over it? Thank you!
Welcome stoked to have you! And that’s a great question, RUclips tutorials are only 10 mins and I can only teach so much in that time frame with the course I go into depth and teach everything from running a business to editing color grading and a lot of techniques I have never talked about on RUclips. If you look at the reviews everyone followed me here first and has been blown away on what they can learn!
Hey dude, AMAZING video, and learned a ton... One thing I'm hung up on, is I can't find out the attachment you are using to connect your camera to your slider, which allows for more controlled pan/tilt, locking out, etc... If you could possibly let me know what it is, or what kind of product to look for (not sure what people call that), it would be hugely helpful! Thanks!
Freakin rad! I do have a few questions if you’d don’t mind fielding them. 1) what aperture are you using for these? 2) what shutter speed are you shooting at?
if you drop that shutter to 1/40 on your a-cam then the rolling over your led sign will stop love watching this stuff either way though! Keep it up Austen!
@@AustenPaul ha ha you should see my home made turntable! It is made of a clockface screwed onto a motor from a disco ball and supported on a can of beans for a base. Spin is 20 seconds.
Lots of good moves in there. Creativity with sliders is absolutely like you said. You have to disconnect your brain from the single direction the slider gives you. Next up! Underslung ;)
@@chariesbergero9662 You can pull it manually as well just takes practice I will do that with some of my lenses that don't allow auto focus. One hand controls the slider the other hand pulls focus.
@@AustenPaul Yes I know that, in fact I have an electronic follow focus, but I never see a hi precision automatic focus like this!! Sorry my little English.

one thing I love about Austen is that he isn't afraid to show his mistakes, he just acepts and keeps going, shows us his human side

how did you get rid of the rod attachment reflection in side the honey jar?

Love this tutorials Austen, how did you do so the honey did not fall from the stick? Did you use some kind of glue?

How do you remove the stand's arm where the product sits in the first take you showed?
