i remember that interview. I don't really pay attention to when i picking either, so when people ask i tell them i don't know. I think it's a mix of both economy and alternating.
Inventor - you are totally lost. The radius has nothing to do with the scale lenght LOL. And the scale lenght is a measurement in inches, the most common being the gibson scale (24,75"), fender scale (25.5") and PRS scale (25"). Gales counted the frets, thats all. Scale lenght =measurement of the neck from the front edge of the nut to the center of the 12th (octave) fret, then doubling that measurement.
If he started at the 12th, he would be there sooner. Anyhow, one of the best guitar players out there. I love his style, his clarity, his chord voicing.
Then called it "twenty-two scale". It's amazing how lovable this guy is. It's almost like he needed to count the number of strings to see how many there happened to be, yet he can play better than 99.9% of people on earth.
I remember the first time I saw Eric..... I had heard "Paralyzed" on KISW out of Seattle, and LOVED the sound of it. The EG Band appeared on Arsenio Hall, and played the song..... Good God. I watched it again recently, and if anyone hasn't seen it, watch it. He's 18 in the clip.... insane. EXTREMELY talented, a real gift. Great singer too. He went through some really hard times, and it seems to have taken something from him, and it's a shame. He's still great, he's still a talent but he lost a little something special along the way. Yeah, as amazing as he still is I can't help but wonder what he would have been if he hadn't put himself through like he did. It is what it is, I'm glad he's still around, and still playing. Eric is one of the all timers, for sure. He's right up there.
When he played the shout licks that brought me back!! In church, you got no note direction you got ‘play that thing on your guitar you played before!!’
Eric is providing Earth with some of the most sincere music today. His mission goes WAY beyond the music I recommend more than anything if you haven’t seen Team EG in concert stop and travel as far as you can within your means to attend,
I haven't known much about Eric yet from the first day I watched him on video, I had no doubt that he can be the best blues clean Guitar Herointhe world, as much to hendrix as possible but with his own unique jazz felt crescendo no-one has ever known .......iam with you Eric love you.. Budala.
He is an Artist, its like asking a Sculptor what's the exact weight of the Mallet you use to chisel. Many Artist don't care about those stuff, they focus more on the Art they are doing.
@Paul warrior a joke? Just because you can't see the genius in his playing doesn't make him a joke. Continium is a classic album and will stand the test of time. Good day RUclips hater.
Hes right about church. I played a six string bass long time ago and our church band played in a black church and after played for and hour non stop wide open. I couldn't feel my hands or my feet. They liked to kill me. Lol
your awesome looks like you play like otis rush, doyle brahmal 2, was it hard to learn that way cause jimi played lefthanded traditonal you got alot of heart soul to your playing...
Steven Ohata there's a cool interview with him on the Anderton's channel, if memory serves he talks about how he started and why he didn't switch to lefty. Lee asks him about licks right handers wouldn't think of because of the strings being backwards. Check it out, it's interesting!
Its interesting .. he said he's influenced by a lot of keyboard players, I'm a keyboard player influenced by a lot of guitar players (hence watching this video) 😁🎹🎸
As a student of the guitar, having my share of difficulty controlling unwanted string noise...I'd like to know how Eric can control it without any palm muting. Looks like he's muting strings with only his fretting hand. Green with envy on this side of the computer screen :-) Awesome vid!
No joke he lived in my city for a few years when I was in music school and I had the opportunity to take like 5 lessons from him! He was super cool and generous with his time, only paid for hour lessons but we'd consistently go for like an hour and a half. The only problems were the fact that he plays upside down, and the fact that the man is a god and is literally incapable of dumbing anything down lol. Learned a lot, but even as a guitar student in college I literally could not comprehend what he was trying to show me, I think he might actually have divine powers or is alien or some shit
@@moxiemusic3739 Wow! Only lesson I ever had from a famous guitarist was a one off with Frank Gambale in London 1988 when he was first demonstrating his economy picking techniques. He was super enthusiastic and a genuine bloke from Australia. He had a full head of hair too back then. Met a few famous guitarists too but without a lesson, recently met Andy James who grew up in Portsmouth only 20 miles from me! Great bloke also, with very accurate playing and with a very quiet voice when he talks! I originally studied and played classical guitar, but love most types of music. Respect from England, near Winchester
How the fuck does he play that backwards!!!????? I mean not even Hendrix it's not upside down neck....it's literally backwards.... Haven't seen anyone playing that way since Albert King....or even Jeff healey who was blind but absolutely incredible how he's so dam good and plays that way!!!! 💐💐🌹❤️💐💐🌹
@@matthewtaylor808 his brother Little Jimmy King Aka Manuel Gales played like that. That’s why Albert took him under his wing. He played similar etc. he passed sadly around 27 yrs old. All the brothers are lefties. He was a great player. I have his cd too. Along with most of Eric’s cds. Type in arsenio hall and you’ll see Eric as a teen playing with his other brother and a drummer in a trio and he also sat in with the house band that night.
I don't even play guitar, but what does knowing the number of frets have to do with being a mediocre or exceptional guitar player? Are you saying Mr. Gales doesn't know his craft?!? I don't know how long my johnson is or how many pubic hairs I have, but I still have great sex with my woman.
Dear guitarist, Why haven't you transcribed the awesome chords at the end of the licks? Also you have skipped many of his licks he demonstrated. Really disappointed about this.
Ural Emekci Eric and most great guitar players from his generation used his ears to learn, from cassettes and records and playing with people. RUclips is a great resource but never lose the skill of picking out stuff by ear. It makes you a much better player.
I like how Eric counted all the the frets.
i remember that interview. I don't really pay attention to when i picking either, so when people ask i tell them i don't know. I think it's a mix of both economy and alternating.
And said 22 scale LOL that is not the scale bro its a number of frets

I chuckled at that. We guitar pickers aren't always the sharpest knives in the drawer.
If he started at the 12th, he would be there sooner.

Great player, Humble man, unconventional and brilliant! More like EG please...
One of the best guitarist alive today. Been a fan since the early 90s.
I tried watching this upside down to see if it looked any easier. Nope. Still impossible... What a genuine guy with an amazing talent.
Thanks for the video Ya'll! #boom
Been following him since his first record... Awesome player, criminally underrated. Thanks for the video.
"Criminally Underated!" So we'll put! Hopefully this new record produced with Joe B will do its job, crown him king 👑
Best guitar player on the planet #boom
1,2,3,4,5,6,7....22 scale hahaa Eric Gales is so down home. Love it
Lol. I think he was playing around.
He is so awesome…and so humble…he is one of my favorites.
Praising God for hours...lol. I love it. What a great guy. Got to meet him at the Dallas Guitar Show this year...super cool and friendly.
Counted each fret instead of going to the 21st dot and counting from there! Eric is an incredible talent on the guitar.
Then called it "twenty-two scale". It's amazing how lovable this guy is. It's almost like he needed to count the number of strings to see how many there happened to be, yet he can play better than 99.9% of people on earth.
So down to earth he's genuine

Eric is so fascinating to watch. I love all his work
Eric Gales what can I say, a very nice guy and deep rooted person, I surely hope that his amp coming out has Tubes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
When he played the shout licks that brought me back!!

Watched an Anderton's video on this chap a while ago and have been a fan ever since! :D
Eric Gales will be a legend.
Dee Seen already is bro... 🤷🏽♂️🤷🏽♂️🤷🏽♂️
That guitar is DOPE. Great player too. New fan, Eric
Baddest brother I know!
He is an Artist, its like asking a Sculptor what's the exact weight of the Mallet you use to chisel. Many Artist don't care about those stuff, they focus more on the Art they are doing.
welcome to social media, where everyone will criticize the slightest mistake and disregard everything great.
Couldn't have said it better myself
Eric Gales is a genius. He should be playing with Richie Kotzen and John Mayer.
@Paul warrior a joke? Just because you can't see the genius in his playing doesn't make him a joke. Continium is a classic album and will stand the test of time. Good day RUclips hater.
Merci pour ces conseils Eric, big up de Tahiti (French Polynesia)
With Gales playing upside down, he has access to different chord shapes. Those are the chords right-side up players have difficulty playing / seeing.
Great video... just way too short. I could watch this guy for an hour.
Monstro demais... guitarrista inigualável!
He's The Raw Dog Of Left Handed Guitar Tutorial Playing!!!
And interestingly, he is right handed!
Hes right about church. I played a six string bass long time ago and our church band played in a black church and after played for and hour non stop wide open. I couldn't feel my hands or my feet. They liked to kill me. Lol
I think Eric is incredible.
Good stuff. You the man Eric.
Almost 90% of pro guitarists now all play starts it sure has made a resurgence

Trower for Sure
This is the best guitarist i ever heard, take him ANY day over satriani
That good old Blues scale & Pentatonic scale goes a long way , ask Billy Gibbons he is still using only two scales lol but it sounds great
My Dancer friend Gretchen, uses "Paralyzed"in her stage routine.
Back to practicing.
Awesome man...amazing player. I'm curious how he learned to play a right handed guitar, strung right handed, left handed.
Steven Ohata there's a cool interview with him on the Anderton's channel, if memory serves he talks about how he started and why he didn't switch to lefty. Lee asks him about licks right handers wouldn't think of because of the strings being backwards. Check it out, it's interesting!
Thanks. I'll check it out.
1ido9not8exist6: GOOD CALL! THAT A GREAT INTERVIEW AND A GREAT RUclips CHANNEL TOO!
While being... right handed...lol
thats what hendrix did also all his bros are lefties also
thanks eric!!!!!
Maan... Great lookin guitar!!! Even better player! ; )
he's fuckin badass
Cool rig and insights man!
Is there any way to rotate the video by 180 degrees so its easier to understand?
Its interesting .. he said he's influenced by a lot of keyboard players, I'm a keyboard player influenced by a lot of guitar players (hence watching this video) 😁🎹🎸
What strings does Eric use
Which scales does he commonly use please ?
Incredible Gifted Guitarist makes the guitar Cry and Talk .

Part of it is how clean he's playing as well
trying to to translate his (really cool) riffs and chords over to traditional right-handed playing is brain rattling lol
even watching it upside down doesn't help...
No joke he lived in my city for a few years when I was in music school and I had the opportunity to take like 5 lessons from him! Me too. Great player
Albert King!

He plays upside down?!?!.!

He had to count his frets???
Justin L
I know how many frets I got
Thought that would be 2nd nature
billyclub56 yeah, because that's SO incredibly important in your ability to play a guitar....SMH.

No I think hes saying he might not know how to read
22 scale? Eric these are called frets man, im guessing he mixed up with scale length lol
he counted the FRETS
Yea he just just accidentally said scale. He meant frets.
urkel can fucking shred now!!
Im assuming the thumbs down were accidents.
