Great effin tone for sure. I saw Eric Gales and Eric Johnson at the Experience Hendrix tour in Austin a month ago. His influences are in my top faves, and Eric Gales is just killing all the great licks, and tasty chords, and shredding his own style. He is an artist, and who doesn't love Jimi Hendrix?

  • @AxemanTurk
    @AxemanTurk 11 лет назад +14

He's so right about Jimi, everyone has taken something from the great guy who started it all and brought guitar playing to the fore. Book of guitar is full of many pages written by many great players, Jimi has quite a few more than most but Eric has his page too. Totally a player in his own right, creative with his own style. He has/will influence many a player to come, a very inventive player and musician, may he amaze us for many more years to come.

My favorite electric player alive right now--
Cat is off the chain...every thing he plays sounds spontaneous...
and it takes a lot of hard work to get to that place as a player...

I so agree, and the shame it is, I live on the west coast of Australia and unless you buy every guitar magazine available and surf youtube you just don’t hear about artists like Eric Gale, all we get is empty calories over the radio waves here..

9 years later, and my 53 year old ass will agree with your opinion. He was a child prodigy like his departed younger brother, born to play. Just like natural athletes...naturally gifted musically inclined.

Eric Gales is awesome. He's got a very unique sound and style- sounds nothing like Hendrix and that's a good thing. I've been enjoying his work since he was 16 in the Eric Gales Band.
He seems to mix blues with jazz and has his own approach to melody, scales, cords which is really refreshing.
The key to his sound is that he strings the guitar in standard righty but plays lefty, just like Dick Dale and Albert King. This fact influences the chords he plays, how he uses scales and how he thinks about melody.
He also hybrid picks- using middle and ring fingers to play E A and D strings while he picks the high strings.
He's also right handed (like Kris Roe of the Ataris). His fretting hand is dominant so he has the dexterity to fret chords that left handed players cannot reach.
It's really entertaining and educational to watch him play.
    His sound is amazing.

The guy is amazing. Its like he hears all of the great musicians songs ,and makes them his own. They might be their songs by name, but he makes them his while he's playing them. I think all the ones that have passed ,would be proud to hear his interpretation? Very original, guitarist.Loved to see him live, seems very respectful of those that came before him.

@@vincentl.9469 Yo, Vincent...! "Sensible...lyrics"...??? Obviously, that's either a wild, laugh 'til ya can't breathe joke or you're just having fun trolling to get a knee jerk reaction (from someone like me!). An "on the level" comment like that blatantly misses the >entire< point about practically >everything< concerning Jimi Hendrix's songs and musical abilities. Are you a stand up looking for a job, or are you the guy who reads absolutely astounding, mind-blowing poetry while complaining that it's poetic...?!?!? I was playing left and right-handed, and left-handed upside-down, using the acoustics of friends.
After I saw Jimi and dropped out of high school for a factory job to buy a Strat and Marshall with effects,
it was tormenting me, having to decide which way to play. It was easier to do everything with the bass strings
on the bottom. I went to see George Benson and he took me backstage to help me decide.
In 1972 I built my first left-handed body with a right-handed neck and took it from there. You should too.

absolutely correct. i love SRV but he was so aggressive and pushy with his time that he never sounded like hendrix to me. great but not a sound-alike. gales, on the other hand, is one of the only guys i've heard who can do that thing where he's not really in strict time but somehow it all comes together on the downbeat. hopefully that makes sense. it's free, flowing and mesmerising yet always seems to land on both feet. all three are/were great guitarists and all unique.
