There are guitar players, great guitar players and then there is Eric Gales. A true force of nature!
Absolutely!
Huge respect for Lee trying to jam with Eric. It's probably so intimidating.
Lee totally didn't know what to do (neither would I), but gotta hand it to him, he jumped in there and hung in as best he could.
That's OK that he doesn't know, and he's got balls for trying it in a video. The most potent way to improve is to play with people that are familiar with things that you are not.
Forces you to learn how to keep up with them however you can - and so the EXACT questions of what you need to work on in order to improve soon become obvious.
It's much better than sitting in your room relying on the ole' trial and error. And even the best instructor can't 'teach you how to improvise' - it's a trial by fire of self-discovery every time.
thought he did a good job.
He’s gotten so much better since Anderson’s started. Pretty killer player himself. Played great considering who he was playing with I think.
Lee just needs to watch some Eric Johnson vids and he can also be a poor mans Eric Johnson like this clown Eric Gales and Bonamassa.
Watching this video upside down made me more comfortable
DIck Dale approves!
Good one.
Nice 👍
Steve Ozone holy shit, doing that made his playing look more realistic and easier to follow ( still impossible to follow but easier )
No! It mada it even weirder! 😁
That upside-down righty being played by a lefty makes my head hurt. I like it.
Edit: I like how Eric acknowledges and name-checks everyone he works with. The sign of a gent.
The true Hendrix heritage!!! This guy is amazing.
Man, people like him are going to be remembered still in 30 years, becoming guitar legends such as buddy guy, bb king, eric clapton, etc.
lol
No
@@verlatenwolf HE smokes all three of those guys..come on.
He does, and doesn't. Hes technically on a different level, but his songs aren't as original @davederoux3361
You can tell the Captain found it really difficult to sneak into the jam with Eric. His style is so unique that finding room for those simple blues licks was tough 🤣🤣🤣 Love both these players and the captain has improved so much. Eric Gales is almost a blend between blues and Neo Soul. Love his style and wish I could play like that. It's a style that lends itself to being beautiful without accompaniment, which as a bedroom hero without a band behind me, I really appreciate
No regular schmoe can jam with Eric.... I've seen dudes on the Hendrix tour with him just step back cause Eric is on another level.
@@Sco3000 oh I'm well aware. I have been a fan of Eric's since I listened to him and Clapton play together. I just found it fun to see the captain struggle to find some space in the mix, that's all.
Yup, that's why he's the only harmony/melody instrument in his bands because he thrives with the space
Not only is he an amazing guitar player, he seems to be a genuinely nice guy too. What an inspiration!
The whole family is... 4 brothers who all played left handed and upside down... plus Hubert Crawford (Drummer) who also plays guitar. But just wonderful kind people.
Well done to the Captain for playing with Eric Gales. I'd probably shit my pants if I had to, he's just so good.
"If it's spelled wrong, you know it's going to be a good tune."
Wish I could say the same about my emails...
I saw him yesterday at the Grolloo Blues festival with my uncle. The best guitarplaying I have ever heard end seen. And he is such a symphatatic man. He promised the entire growd to take a picture with everyone who wanted to. The growd had a standing ovation so he stood there taking pictures and singing stuff for a really long time. Later in the evening he played along with the last song of the set of gary clarke junior. W
wearing he's tour shirt. For me he is the best guitarist ever. A weekend I'll never forget!
The captain meets Clapton let’s make it happen
I don't even know how it hasn't happened yet!!
Person yes please
Clapt out Clapton has too much money to leave the house I suspect.
The Claptain meets Capton
What a righteous dude. Deserves all the success that's coming his way just now.
Mega talent, total genius
Eric Gales is a beast. Grew up in Memphis back in the late 80s/early 90s. There is nobody better than him when it comes to originality and true true talent. Defnitely has the Memphis dialect. He reminds me of Hill Country Blues (RL Burnside, T Model Ford, Junior Kimbrough, etc.) One has to go to Memphis to understand.
Man Eric is looking super healthy! Putting Mono Neon on the record was a great idea because that dude is a ridiculously talented bass player. I downloaded the new album and it sounds amazing. Middle of the road was great too. There’s really no such thing as bad when it comes to Eric’s guitar playing and music. One of the top 3 blues players ( maybe the top ) in the world
I like the Bookends a little more, I like when he does more blues/ rock.
- One of the top 3 blues players ( maybe the top ) in the world
Not at all
@@parapapapa69 Lmao He most certainly is
From top of my head, considering "blues" and "blues rock" players alive. Warren Haynes,Derek Trucks,Tab Benoit, Buddy Whittington, Gary Clark Jr, Corey Harris... all of them have more blues than eric gales in their guitars.
He is real good but not a top 3 (maybe the top) by any means dude
@@parapapapa69 I used to think like you.. but then i saw him live. This guy is a weapon... a total virtuoso!
What a gentleman, he praised the people who he worked with when talking about his art.
Eric Gales is the man, such an incredible player.
I saw Eric play in Houston Texas when he was 17 or 18 and that concert literally made me start playing guitar again after a 5 year hiatus after breaking my wrist.
Thanks for the privilege of this amazing free content. Really brilliant stuff 👍
The Captain Meets Blues Rock Legend Eric Gales......Again.
Saw him at the Hollands International Blues Festival yesterday, absolutely rocked the entire show!! And the day after this comes out. Perfect timing!
This guy was born to play guitar. Just fabulous.
The most unique player and outstanding person! Impossible to imitate! Touch is sublime, tremolo is great!
Years ago, I was in Austin, Texas watching Monte Montgomery play. Can’t remember now which club. Anyways, in the middle of the show, Monte took a break and up on the stage climbed a slender, rather ‘homely’ looking black man who had permission from Monte Montgomery to play his guitar. This man flipped Monte’s Alvarez acoustic guitar upside down, played it left handed, and proceeded to blow the minds of the people of the crowd. I don’t recall what songs he played, but he played for about 15 minutes or so. Monte Montgomery came back to the stage, gave this man a high five and a hug, and he guy pulled his beanie back down, walked off the stage, and out the door and down the street.
That was upwards of 20 years ago and to this day, I’d still be willing to bet that the black man who played Montes guitar upside down and left handed, was Eric Gales.
Probably Antone's.
Love Eric Gales, great sound, this man can rock!
I literally just watched the old Eric Gales video last week, and I've been freaking out whether I've watched this or not. Confusion over, this is Captain Meets Eric Gales....Again....
Wanna see Pete jam with this dude, would b insane
insane? lol
TheAxzom
INSANE!
Yes it would.
Really great to hear a fellow lefty talk about the kind of ‘soft discrimination’ we get. Proof (if it were needed) that the best way to play is whatever is comfortable for you. What a player, what a sound.
holy hell!! that jam in the middle...huge congrats capt for hanging in there...
Eric Gales kills it every time. I was excited when heard him say he did a song with BSlade and Beth Hart.
Great to see Eric and again and doing well! I pray hes still going strong in his sober lifestyle
Eric is (to me) like the new Jimi , great interview !
I've seen him live for the second time 2 days ago, then met hem at breakfeast yesterday! Lucky me!
@@rtxf Jimi ? ;-) You are lucky ! jk ! Cool though about Eric !
Jimi is dead ...its insulting to gales to call him the "new" jimi...
@@purpleskunk6327
Eric is his own genius, don’t compare to Jimi
Inspired by Jimi, possibly
We've had Jimi, SRV, and now Eric Gales in less than a lifetime. Music has been truly blessed
He came through my town and I missed him. I gotta see him next time. The man can control an audience and most of all the music. Great 👍 job Andertons!
AWESOME.
Eric and King's X were primary inspirations for my guitar player and band back in 90'-93'.
The debut album was an eye opener. Lot's of guys who followed owe a significant debt to the style Eric helped pioneer.
SO incredible!!! I love these dudes wow that jam at end is off the chain HUGE
As an upside down player, Eric Gales is my main influence in guitar playing and one of the best players (righty or lefty) currently
What a player. That 30 secs at the beginning was enough to get me the feels
📒Ends is a true Masterpiece. I'm so proud of you brother from another mother ☺️ a great mix of generes something for everyone
I live in Phoenix,Az . This past weekend I saw a wonderful player singer-songwriter from Texas named Ally Venable. She’s only 20yrs old . Eric Gale played a little bit on her latest cd called Texas Honey . She will be touring Europe soon . She would be a great guest on Andertons.
He was always an inspiration for me since the 1st Album came out.
Erci Gales are just amazing.
Gales is just freaking amazing! Glad to see him getting some love for his work!
His playing style is makes his music so unique
The Eric Gales Band's "Picture of a Thousand Faces" came out in 1993. I first ran across the first track, "Paralyzed", in around 2003. Was *absolutely* blown away by it. It's so great to see Eric Gales flourishing in 2019!
Glad to see this posted today.
I love Eric Gales! Thanks for awesome interview and playing! \m/
And also thank you for the demonstration of great clean big headroom tone with hybrid amp with my guitar hero! That's so valuable for my discovering of guitar tone.
this guy just inspires doesn't he? What an amazing artist. As a lefty myself, his original approach just blows me away. One of the best imho.
Love eric gales. He followed me on instagram and it made my month lol
Love hearing this dude play, awesome!
AYEAH!!! ERIC GALES!!! Thanks for this vid Capt.Lee ;-)
I saw Eric Gales and band last night in Castiglione del Lago, Italy. They put on a great show.
Such a great episode. I love this concept show that you’ve come up with Captain. Thanks for sharing all of these deep conversations.
Eric's vibrato is something very powerful... magic. Reminds me of a very more technically clean hendrix. He has that FIRE but also incredible technique, creativity, tone etc. and what a nice guy.
Seen him twice live and the guys one of the best around
Eric Gales is mind blowing super cool to see him on Andertons again
He has such a unique style, so refreshing to hear the blues funk in a new light . Also seems like such a down to earth person, great interview 👌
Gotta love Eric Gales, such undeniable playing!
The video/interview that many of us were waiting for. Love the way of playing of EG. So many things to learn of this great guitar player.
Good job Lee. Gales is beyond but you still jumped in. Kudos. And super cool that Gales is winning. That man got soul and skill in spades
Always very sincere and sharp as a tack as usual, Eric Gales.
Eric Gales is a beast! Great player.
I love Eric, such a breath of fresh air, Thanks guys!
This dude is legit. So happy they had him on the show
From a fellow lefty Tele player, God bless Eric Gales for "Southpaw Serenade".
jacko717 he’s right handed...
@@trijigon... so that's why he wrote "Southpaw Serenade." OK. Got it.
jacko717 he’s right handed. He goes over it in the first video he did on this channel. Just google it.
@@trijigon yes but he plays lefty, which is what I wrote. He's not naturally left handed but he plays lefty.
@@jacko717 he's not a lefty. he is right handed but learned to play left on accident.
There is absolutely no one to my knowledge that plays like Eric Gales. He plays a gumbo pot of musical genres, with an amazing sense for melody that is palatable even to non musicians, and that makes him a star above most. Just because you can do infinity on a fretboard, doesn't mean it comes together in a moving way. Eric Gales, in my humble opinion, has mastered the combination of virtuosity and melody.
This is good. Reminds me of the ad campaigh Fender used in the '90s for the anniversary of the Stratocaster.
A Legend, A Master and A Guitar. Usually an easle with Jimi and a player, one was Eric Gales. Says alot.
I bought one of those DV Mark Raw Dawg heads and i have to say that for Single coils it’s a cracking clean amp. Can’t wait for those vertical 2x12 cabs to come out. Super lightweight, super clean 150w rig. Killer.
Nigel I bought one of those Raw Dawg heads too. Sounds soo nice. Tons of power 👍. I have mine paired with a Zilla Fat boy 2x12 cab with celestion vintage 30s. Mega punchy tone with crystal like essences. Very glad I got one. I got rid of the hot rod deluxe 1x12 all Valve for a DV Mark EG. At first I was skeptical but now I'm glad I did. I have a Keeley Handwired Fuzz Head pedal for drive tone and a Keeley TS808 which both sound killer.
I have a USA 04 Standard which it sounds great with but my 2018 US performer strat is the absolute nuts with it. 👌
I think if Derek Trucks and Eric Gales played together, the space time continuum would crack
Nah, things would just get reeeeeal coooool.
I fuckin love this guys playing.
Eric Gales all the way , brother thanks for the video ,it's great like always ...
Very cool interview and amazing playing
Hell yeah. The man itself. Im always up to some incredible guitar sounds from Eric. Thanks
I definitely enjoy Eric Gales work indeed! Truly an effective and melodic legend he is after his almost 3 decade career span! Although, I must say, didn't you interview him already, or my memory is playing tricks on me haha. Still great work to see from you guys nevertheless!
Edit: Ahh it's another awesome interview with the legend himself, and that just makes this so much more amazing! Have a great Father's Day to all of ye, I forgot to mention!
Last time I saw him on this channel, I bought Middle of the Road. Guess I have another album to buy then
Good for you for buying albums still. It's an easy enough way to support an artist and attach to a form of media that so many people don't experience anymore, more so if you buy the physical editions.
Ok...Cap, you did good, seriously! It was talk show quality and I really respect that you allowed this. This is great. More of this please!
My band has two bassists, and we both play right handed basses, left handed. I've had all kinds of people tell me I'm wrong. I wear it like badge of honour.
@@NeungView not from where I'm sitting. Lowest note to high note, is bottom to top. Makes more sense
Outstanding.
One of the greatest guitarists ever. Really.
GREAT guitarist!!!
Great interview! What a nice guy and an awesome player!!!
Eric is the next step from Hendrix, SRV, and now him. He’s a once a generation player and he’s always reminded me of, if Ray Parker jr, Stevie wonder, and Stevie Ray Vaughan had a baby it’d sound like Eric. He’s just amazing and I almost made a “squee” noise when I saw this video up. Thanks guys
SRV ? Really? Eric doesn't really put me in the frame of mind of SRV . He's got his influences , but at the same time has his own thing going on.
Eric Gales O man i love this man he plays that guitar. I myself play the guitar and I love the blues and he is one of the guys I go too play the guitar thanks man.
Love his grooves
Good to see Eric again, great player great guy....can relate massively to his early life with battling the demons....
That was Crazy Good!
Eric Gales is my Spirit Animal !
🤘💀🤘
Eric Gales is the man!
Just got my Raw Dawg, the other day. Present from my wife.
Awesome video cap. Great interview. U read my mind with the question about if he can pick up on right handed players licks by sight.
Eric Gales just rules, super nice guy on top of that !
Whoa! Eric gales is amazing
lol
Low E on the bottom, mind boggling
On another level
There is hope for mankind
He is a genius, no doubt
his brothers forced him to learn to play like this, we think because of a shortage of left handed guitars in Memphis in the 1980s. His half brother Manuel (Little Jimmy King) learned this very same way. They may have cursed at brother Eugene at that time but they learned it anyway ............. RIP Manuel
when Lee starts jamming with Eric you can see Eric really starts to feel Lee's vibe that's a pretty good endorsement right there..
SinnersDwarf lee had some very tasteful movements in there
@@imacashew. he sure did
Liked this guy for a while .NICE !
It’s all been said before. 👏 Nice humble interview... 👍🎸🐨
Eric is awesome! So glad he has cleaned up we don't need to loose any more awesome talents to substance abuse. I hope he does 17 more albums!
I was at the masterclass at the electric theatre and it was awesome
When are u going to meet JOHN MAYER!!! Love Eric Gales too!
Looks like 90's hip hop. Plays killer guitar. I love Eric
I like the ideas of clean tone. If one needs to overdrive, get it from a pedal but keep the amp at full, clean dynamics.... Thanks for introducing this artist!
