5:15 - This is where she begins to talk about what to do. You're welcome. I'm a lover of this channel but sometimes the huge intros become a skip for me - just me opinion, I lover Makers Gonna Learn but sometimes you want to get straight to the point :]
Sorry about that. Thanks so much for your love and support.
I love that you're to the point and don't add all the extra fluff in your how to videos. I can't find the comment with the actual products you used for this
THANK YOU GOD! I was looking for this information everywhere! I've never done anything like this before. I ordered a thermos and the beautiful design is coming off. You're a lifesaver!!
Glad I could help! Thank you for watching and commenting!
I agree with you Rachel. I never seal mine and I also run them through the dishwasher daily. The only thing that has ever come off was when I use teeny tiny letters, which is not very often. Love you Rachel.
what type/brand of vinyl do you use?
Please use any adhesive vinyl you have :) All good brands of adhesive vinyl are created equal. There is no such thing as permanent vinyl, so don't be fooled by vinyls being marketed as permanent. We always recommend sealing a project like this, so it doesn't matter what type of vinyl you choose because you're going to seal it anyways :)
Thank you!!! You're too sweet :)
@@auroratrinidad88 I use Oracle 651
I really like you guys honesty and incsn tell you are for the consumer and what to help us regular people...Makers Gonna Learn for President!!
Love your presentation of things with honesty and straightforwardness. It's like watching a friend talk smack..lol. New subscriber.
YAY! Thank you so much for watching!
Yessss!! I couldn’t have said it better!! Awesome personality!. 💯😆💖
LOL I love your statement about the decals on cars. That is a good point. Thank you.
You are so welcome
I Lol also😂 I love her accent 👍
I really would liked to have seen the finished products fully cured with all 3 coats. Kinda wanted to see what it would look like - specifically at the top where the Polycrylic meets the unsealed lip
I tried the polycrylic mentioned, after watching this video and it completely messed up the tumbler after a couple of washes. When washing it, I lightly hand washed the outside of the tumbler. The tumbler slowly started getting water marks that would not come off and just made it look dirty. Completely ruined my tumbler. I wouldn't recommend it.
@@mayraesolis31 did you wait 28 days for it to cure?
I don’t know where you went to , but I enjoy our videos very much! The no nonsense is best for me!
I’m working on my business and I use vinyl on a container. It’s definitely been coming off I need to seal it for sure. I’ll try this thanks.
Hello I’m just getting into cricut and already have someone wanting a tumbler. I want to etch but don’t want to go through all the steps and work with corrosive chemicals and hope for the best. I also am concerned about the sealing of tumbler with permanent vinyl route. My concern with permanent was worrying about the vinyl getting washed off during washing dishes. Your video reassured me that the permanent will hold up a good while, so I am going to go the route of just doing permanent vinyl tumblers. I will probably also give extra decals that the receiver or buyer can add if they want to change or replace. This would be a appreciation. Then when you mentioned the fact you could change them during certain occasions sounds perfect because that extends the life of the tumbler to be versatile rather than be a one time design use. Now I can start making tumblers I save the money on the chemicals and supplies to get more tumblers.
I really love these videos but sometimes I'm like okay there is so much talking in the beginning! (not to be rude). It was like 9 mins into the video before i actually learned. But love the info and tutorial of it!
Sorry you feel that way
Thank you, I agree, I was able to forward it to 9 minutes to skip the beginning.
Would be fine if the video were broken into chapter segments so you can skip if you don't like too much extra info. Some people like it.
The longer they get you to watch the more money they make.
I AGREE. BUT MAYBE ITS NESSECESSARY FOR SOME.
Thank you so much for your honesty and options other than epoxy (I am a disaster with the stuff & don't have a turner - been borrowing my mom's) Can the polycrylic be used on glitter tumblers or the textured finished stainless tumblers
can you use these methods on a powder coated tumbler?? I received a powder coated tumbler with a vinyl decal and really want to seal it!
8:27 to get to why most of you are here. ..
New to your channel and Cricut in general. You are awesome and I love your accent! ❤️ Yankee here. Lol
I am so excited to learn and you guys are so efficient at teaching. I wish I worked with you in your amazing craft room!
God bless! Jesus loves you! I do too!
Thank you so much!😊
Thank you for the video. Can we use the polycrylic on Plastic tumbers and Mugs?
New subscriber here! I just came across your videos and love your presentation!! You explain everything so well!! And your personality is great!! Must be that southern charm!! All of us southern gals have it!! 😁😁. Thank you for your time. Looking forward to learning more!! ❤️❤️
Yay, welcome!❤
Thanks, can you use the poly on fine glitter? If so will it be dish washer safe?
Hi if it’s getting scrubbed in the sink will the vinyl come off , I put permanent vinyl logo on a tumbler and if I tried I can peal It off
Thanks a lot for this video and all the information provide it. I have only made two projects with vinyl, one with iron on a library bag for my little nephew and one with oracal 651, I have personalised all the bottles for my colleagues as my boss bought a soda machine and gave us bottle to each of us. I really liked to work with vinyl and this kind of projects are really nice. I loved the oracal 651, so easy to weed and as you have mentioned so many colours 🥰. Thanks a lot 💕🦘🇦🇺🌷🌹
You are so welcome! Thank you, ma'am
Finally something without Epoxy 😂😂😂
Yay!!
Same I hate epoxy lol
I’m looking solely for personal use. I’m not a small business owner. I don’t need a turner & fancy equipment. I bought some lovely vinyl decals on Etsy. Problem I’m having is the “holo layer” is peeling off of the “colored layer” under it. I’m not too worried about the food safety bits as it’s only going to be on the outside of it. 🤷🏼♀️
Would you recommend putting this on glass?
The difference between that and the car decal is when I put layered vinyl on top of eachother it will come off. So when you have one layer stickers you probably dont have to seal but I wrap my cups and put small cattle brands all over them so you risk the brands coming off
Thanks for the video! I have a question about the polycrylic...in the description box the link is for matte...although I would think I might need satin..since the tumbler is kind os shiny. I would love to see an AFTER picture, after the coats and dry. Please let us know how the matte is working!
Thank you for your honesty! New follower ♥️
Thank you for watching and commenting!
What is the cure time for the polycrylic to be able to regular use? I know the mod podge is 28 days right?
I KNEW you were from Tennessee! I am too! Love how you explain things. Will be subscribing.
Glad you liked it! Thank you for watching. 😊
Just the tip I was looking for. Thank you so much!!!
No problem!!🙂
I did the sealant, but I think the next time I'm going to get Crystal Clear Gloss Finish for the stainless steel and the bottles I get that are matte, I'll use the crystal clear matte finish. Thanks for the tips.
Crystalac is a good alternative to Epoxy. It is BPA free. And it is a local company to northeast TN.
I’ve been looking for this. I can’t find it anywhere. Do you know of any good sources?
Hi! Can y’all make a video on how to decorate a Cricut? The 1 in this video is super cute!
We have a video on creating this on our member only Facebook group :)
Would you recommend gloss or satin polycrylic for stainless steel tumblers?
I'm curious about this as well
Can you use the poly acrylic on rubberized tumblers or would you recommend the spray paint version?
Great question! I’m much more handy with sprays than brushes. 🤣
I would like to see the video about applying the vinyl
Thanks for a clear and well presented video that's helped us understand this simple finishing technique
Glad it was helpful!
Hi ! I would love to see the video from start to finish !
Hi Vonda! You may watch the video from start to finish. :)
Great tutorial Rachel!! Thanks.
You are so welcome! Thank you, ma'am
What's the difference of using Polyacrylic and regular water based Polyurethane?
Hi!! I have a pretty important question! During this tutorial, you state that you can let it cure for 1-2 days and you should be fine. During your Starbucks cold cup tutorial, you state it must be cured for 28 days. That is a HUGE time frame difference. Why is it so short for this cup vs the Starbucks cup? Will all cups have a different cure time based on their material? Thanks in advance!!
Good question! So, I mention dry time :) Dry time and cure time are very different! A product is DRY after 1-2 days, but these types of products are not CURED until 28 days :) All of these products have the same cure time. Have a great crafty day!
FYI, Siser just came out with a new HTV - it's called Siser Sparkle - comes in a bunch of super fun colors and it's thinner than the regular Siser Giltter (surface is completely flat also, which I think adds a longer lifespan to the design than some of the rougher glitter products might). With few exceptions (a few different products from Thermoflex) the primary products I buy are Siser HTV and Oracal as my primary / go to adhesive vinyl. For funsies, things like Siser Brick or Siser Flock (both HTV) make hats pop! I like your videos, and will probably sign up for your subscription service shortly, as my Cricut DesignSpace subscription is going to expire in a couple of months and I have not used any of the "exclusive" svg's on that in I can't even tell you how long.
Okay, thanks
Can you use that polycrylic on a powder coated mug?
Can you use the spray polycrylic on tumblers?
In the video you say to give it 1 to 2 days. But in one of these comments I read 28... Which is it? Is it okay to put this in the dishwasher after you use polycrylic?
1- 2 days is drying time, 28 days is cure time :) We don't recommend using it before it's fully cured
Can I use this sealer if I painted My stainless steel tumbler?
Yes, you can! :)
Love all your videos! Can you share link for Oracle color sample?
Great tips! As always, thank you so much for sharing! Stay safe, healthy and positive! GOD bless you and your family! 🙏❤🇺🇸🌞
This is so helpful! If I have a black matte tumbler should I use matte polycrylic vs the satin one for shiny stainless steel tumblers?
Thank you so much for this thoroughly informative video/ tutorial. 👏🏼💕🌸💎💯📝
You're so welcome!😊
Thank you for this! Question- I have a project that involves a matte skinny tumbler and shiny metallic vinyl, and I do want to seal it because they will be gifts but I am worried about the difference in texture. Is there a product you recommend that will seal the shiny vinyl onto the matte tumbler without either one looking weird?
I’m in same situation, would really appreciate an answer to your question…. How did you end up sealing your tumblers?
Same, I have pink yellow and orange matte metal skinny koozies that I’m doing for a bachelorette party, trying to figure out if I seal them what’s best to use…did you attempt to try anything with yours?
Thanks for the video. Have you tried these on UV DTF transfers?
Great video! Thank you for sharing.
I'm am going to try the epoxy.
I thought about getting a spinner, but not sure that it's necessary
Only get a spinner if you plan on making multiple epoxy cups, or it's not worth it! :) Best of luck!
So glad I found you. Great information! I’m new at this and not sure I want to spend a lot of money on products yet, lol. I love this option cause I have been a little intimidated . Thank you for boosting my confidence..
You're so welcome! Thank you for your kind words. We're so happy to have helped you!
What about Glow in the Dark vinyl? Wouldn't it be better to seal it to protect it from washing?
Awesome information and instructions. Thanks.
You're welcome!
Thanks so much once again Rachel another great helpful video!!!! God Bless Liz x
You are so welcome!
Awesome video and explanation. Thank you. Love that Southern accent. As a fellow Southerner, can I seal my Styrofoam coffee cup. 🤣🤣🤣 Sorry, had to be silly. God bless.
Glad you enjoyed it!🙂
Thanks so much for this detailed tutorial....this so helpful! 😁
Can you use infusible ink on a tumbler if so are there any rules?
I am doing vinyl on textured cups. Will this also help them stick better. I used the dollar tree vinyl and some of the vinyl is moving. Any advise would be amazing 🙂
Is there a big difference between the polycrylic clear gloss, semi-gloss, and clear stain?
The shine once it has fully dried. Clear gloss is going to be your shiny finish. Semi-gloss is a step below clear gloss, glossy finish but not overly glossy. Satin is like the middle ground between flat/matte and clear glossy.
@@kiml3526 thank you so much🤗😃.
Thank you so much! I really needed this video/guide! Thanks again! BTW, I just love your accent! lol
You're SO welcome!!!
What do you recommend cleaning your paint brushes with? I have been using pink soap and a makeup brush cleaning mat
We always are quick to wash a brush, and we do so with warm water only. It's always worked very well for us. If you have accidentally let a brush dry a while with paint on it, we recommend squirting some hair conditioner in a cup and letting the brush sit in it. The conditioner will loosen the paint (most of the time) and allow you to wash it clean.
1 thing about vinyl you didnt mentioned if you scratch it or. Scrub at it, it begins to pull away from the surface.
That's kind of a given... Vinyl wants to peel up if scratched or scrubbed.
Do you think this product would work to seal stickers on a mini fridge?
Thank you!!! Very helpful!
Glad it was helpful!
thank you...have you tried using this method on cured resin? For example, seal after layering vinyl on bookmark (instead of sealing it with another layer of resin).
Thank you so much for this video! I was wondering what would be the best way to seal cricut holographic vinyl and adhesive foil and a starbucks tumbler? The vinyl and foil doesn't seem to stick well and I want to be able to seal it. Please advise. Thank you!!
You're so welcome! Feel free to use this exact method in this video!
would've been nice to see the fully finished, dried product
it looks pretty much the same once dried as it does here :)
Would this make removable vinyl permanent?
Yes, sealing vinyl will make it permanent if done properly :)
With the Minwax Polycrylic, what finishes would you recommend for projects? (ie: Satin, Gloss, Semi-Gloss, Matte)
We prefer Matte!! :) amzn.to/2KzC588
Thanks, it helped me alot 🥰
Glad it helped!
Can you do a video using the polycrylic on glass or clear plastic so we can see the end clear results
Here's a helpful video for you: ruclips.net/video/BFBjP_fR5-4/видео.html
Thanks so much , very informative video 👍🏼
I did everything she said but after two days of using it the tumbler started peeling. I have only hand washed and hand dried. What could be the problem?
Did you allow your tumbler to cure for 28 days before use? :) ruclips.net/video/zVpbXu0AItY/видео.html
Thank you so much. Your video was extremely helpful. In the past, I have not sealed any tumblers I've made, but I put a vinyl decal with very thin letters on a shiny tumbler for my granddaughter and thought it best to seal. Is it ok to use clear gloss Polycrylic and not the clear matte you mentioned? NOTE: I am not a business, only create items for family and friends.
So glad it was helpful!
@@MakersGonnaLearn when sealing, can I use clear gloss poly instead of clear matte?
You mentioned that if you had printable vinyl you should seal it. I made something for a friend with the printable vinyl, will the polycrylic ruin the peintable vinyl at all? Thanks for the great and informative video!!
No, we actually recommend spraying the decals with polyurethane. to seal them :) So afterwards using polycrylic is totally fine and will not ruin them!
Can I use polycrylic on mugs? Thank you for this tutorials you guys are the best teachers.
Here's how we recommend sealing mugs: ruclips.net/video/rRiSVUhEUa8/видео.html :) But yes, you can use polycrylic if you need to!
Thank you so much!!
Hi! This was VERY helpful! I was wondering which polycrylic you used? I looked at your links… they said matte? Does that mean they won’t be clear and shiny? Then, in the video you said satin? I’m looking for a clear and shiny finish much like epoxy, but I wasn’t sure which to use of the polycriyics to use? Please help!
Same. Did you ever get the answer?
Great video. Very useful, thanks!
So glad it was helpful!
Tried to use this on my mugs and tumblers but I'm always left with light streak marks from that brush ??
If I use the polycrylic sealer don’t need the epoxy resin?
correct :)
Is it the same process with a tumbler that is already painted?
Yes! :)
Why didn’t you brush it the acrylic up and down? Does it leaves streaks? Does it work on hydroflasks?
Love your name, "Makers Gonna Learn"
Just started following. How do you wash if you don't seal? If you don't seal, how long will the vinyl stay on? Thanks 😊
The length of how long the un-sealed vinyl lasts depends heavily on how often you use and wash it. We really recommend sealing these tumblers but if you do not then please hand-wash quickly and dry immediately. The less water that gets on the decal the better :) Good luck!
Hi there! Thank you so much for this video. Question: Can you use minwax polycrylic on a Starbucks plastic tumbler?
Absolutely: ruclips.net/video/yTp3nDu5fdg/видео.html
Will this method be the same for plastic tumblers like the color changing from Michaels?
We are looking at a Vevor vinyl machine. Would this membership still help us with ideas and tips?
Absolutely!! We have so much to offer! :) Join Makers Gonna Learn for $30 OFF using code "CRAFT" at checkout! : makersgonnalearn.com/join
Thanks Rachel! Great information as always!!!
You are so welcome! Thank you!
Will this polycrylic look ok on black tumblers?
I got matte acrylic tumblers and tried using polycrylic and it chips off so easily. What am I doing wrong?
So I know this is kinda related but not really. I am just exploring my option but if I add rhinestones to a cup or tumbler with my decals, would the poly acrylic seal those too?
Hello! So for something as thick as rhinestones, I think your best sealer option on a tumbler would be epoxy. I'm afraid the poly would not be thick enough to properly seal something like that :(
Can you use polycrylic to seal vinyl on a hydroflask? and if so, gloss or matte finish?
I'm curious about this as well.
Can you use the polycrylic on a powder coated tumbler ? Or does it have to be stainless steel?
can I use them for a wood slice coaster painted with a top coat of acrylic paint? will it works to make it waterproof and heat proof? Thanks!!
Will this work on a black or white tumbler? Like will it look good?
Will this work on painted cups? I bought a cup from Etsy that looks like an "In N Out Burger" cup. So I have vinyl on paint but I want to cover it to protect the vinyl
Does this work on plastic tumblers? Thanx
Can you airbrush the polycrylic on the tumbler?
