      No epoxy needed. The Vinyl Shield when applied in an offset will get stronger the longer it sits. Be sure to wait 24-48 hours before washing so it can get a really good bond first. Make sure the surface is sterile, dry, and of no texture (such as powder coating, etc).

      You can try using a rubbing alcohol mixture before applying your decal, which is 9/10 water and 1/10 rubbing alcohol. You can also try using a heat gun on the decal to get the bubbles out!

    Would the vinyl shield help to attach it to surfaces better?
    I've been having problems with the vinyl not sticking to cups.

    • @TheRhinestoneWorld
      @TheRhinestoneWorld  7 месяцев назад +1

      Likely not if the regular adhesive vinyl won't stick. There could be multiple reasons why:
      Is it a powder coated cup?
      Is the surface not clean and sterile?
      Is the vinyl 631 vs a 651 or our ColorSpark?
      The Vinyl Shield likes to apply to smooth clean surfaces, same with regular sign vinyl. We use Vinyl Shield as an extra protective layer, like, well... a shield. It keeps opals from scratching, and very delicate designs from lifting, etc.

    • @TheRhinestoneWorld
      @TheRhinestoneWorld  Год назад

      We have textured glitter as well as a smoother surfaced glitter on site. We prefer to apply over smooth surfaces, it just decreases the amount of air pocket space you see and helps with the grip of the shield.
      We have quite a lot of vinyl shield videos, if you'd like to search the keywords on our channel it'll take you down a fun rabbit hole lol!
      Side note, be sure to offset the shield larger than the thing you're out to protect. You want a smooth non textured tumbler as well. The longer this material sits, the better it sticks. Give it at least 24 hours before washing.

    • @TheRhinestoneWorld
      @TheRhinestoneWorld  Год назад +1

      Certainly! Just be sure (as with any vinyl) that your size is suited for your shape. Example, a wine glass. If you're needing any kind of larger size you'll have to contour shape your decal first, such as in silhouette, there's a conical warp option. Just something to be aware of so you don't get that dreaded edge curling :-)

    Does the Vinyl Shield also help keep the vinyl from peeling up from condensation on the bottle?

    • @TheRhinestoneWorld
      @TheRhinestoneWorld  11 месяцев назад +1

      It will.
      However, condensation happens on the outside of the bottle, not in between the vinyl and bottle. It's developed when cool meets warm in the atmosphere. If your regular vinyl is peeling from the sweat, then there may be a bad bond (as in powder coated or other forms of texture) which allows little cavities for water to invade and weaken your bond on the cut edge of your decal. Be sure to clean the surface and have it sterile first as well before applying and do not touch (finger oils are the enemy.)
      If you use our Vinyl Shield, then cut it in an offset larger than the decal you're protecting. You want it to fully encase what it's covering to form a "shield". The same rules apply for texture, Vinyl Shield likes a smooth clean surface. Leave it to sit a day or two, as the longer it sits the better it sticks, before washing and handling.
      If applied correctly, and to the correct surface, it will be top rack dishwasher safe.

    Can you use vinyl shield on permanent vinly and HTV?

    • @TheRhinestoneWorld
      @TheRhinestoneWorld  3 месяца назад +1

      Good question!
      There's no need to add it to htv, but if you do, make sure the offset is a bit larger since it likely won't stick to the htv very well. Vinyl Shield likes a smooth surface, even powder coat makes it finicky. The longer it sits the better it sticks, so give it some time after applying to regular surfaces.
      As for permanent vinyl, yes, we often use it to protect delicate vinyl such as opals that scratch easily.

I do wonder if you have any suggestions on what to do about the gaps in the letters, like the roundish spot in an R. When you push the shield down in that small spot, it doesn’t completely stay adhered. Still love it though. Will be buying more soon!

      Vinyl shield should be overcut (larger) for sure. You want it to fully encase the vinyl it's protecting, even the edges. I personally like to be roughly about a quarter inch larger than my design.

      @TheRhinestoneWorld  Год назад +1

      We're glad you asked, we love questions!
      The vinyl shield is a material that gets stronger the longer it sits applied. You do need to give it at least 24-48 hours after applying before tossing it in to wash.
      You want the vinyl shield cut in a decent offset so it can perform correctly. It's the "shield" that is protecting what's under it, so by offsetting you don't get any vulnerable points with cutting it flush. Think of a layered cake. Where the vinyl is at the bottom and the shield is at the top. If you slice them then you have the exposed edges of both materials where water, etc can easily reach and separate them. Now if you put a cover over the cake with a dome cover or a lid, it's perfectly sealed and protected by that "shield". That's why you want the offset. :-) We're here if you have any other questions!

      This is for adhesive vinyl, not htv. We have other material to turn htv into a decal: ColorSpark HTV Anything.
      With HTV Anything, you can press htv to it and break some of the typical pressing rules--you can layer glitter htv on glitter and even layer hotfix rhinestones on top of the htv! The HTV Anything is the bottom layer, it's clear and has a strong adhesive backing. This is what we use to make our full glitter and rhinestone tumblers. :) -TRW Pilar

Peeling also eventually the sides started to peel up after a few hand washes 🥲

    • @TheRhinestoneWorld
      @TheRhinestoneWorld  Год назад

      We use Vinyl Shield on many types of items, just like the helmet he demonstrated in the video. The ink on the decal looks as brand new as the day he applied it.
      With Vinyl Shield, you want to overcut to fully encase the decal you're protecting. The edges, everything, do not cut it flush, water etc will creep into the exposed edges.
      Next, the longer the shield sits after applied and the air bubbles are worked out, the stronger it sticks. It needs a touch of time, and heating gently with a hair dryer works as well to get that initial bond.
      Do not make decals larger than they can accommodate on a tapered, curved surface without warping to size as this encourages weak edges and bubbling on just about any vinyl. So size properly is needed.
      Lastly, as with any decal, wipe down your cup with rubbing alcohol or wash with blue dawn soap and dry really well. Then do not touch it, finger oils are the enemy. Oil will remove or weaken adhesive on any decal or sticker.
      So, yes, it will protect your ink if all used properly. Give it 2 days or so and let the adhesive strengthen before attempting to hand wash :-)
      We're here if you have more questions!
