I do a lot of other things where a sealer is needed and I would like to add that I would recommend you get a spray sealer that contains UV blockers. That will help with the sun fading the decal. The MinWax is great but you may need to experiment with different sealers as they may react differently to different brands of ink. Epson, Canon, HP and others don't use the same formula for ink. I'm sure there is some sort of standard, but I'm not sure.
Also, if you don't have a second person to help make sure the decal is straight, you can use blue or green painters tape to put a line on your window or car where you want to place the decal. Step back and see what adjustments need to be made and make them. Now you know exactly where/how to place the decal so it's straight.

As a Southerner, I appreciate your lessons and your voice!
If you spray the surface with water with a couple of drops of dish detergent, it allows you to move the decal to the best position, then burnish to get the water out and leave to dry.
Thank you so much Rachel! I have been totally afraid of this machine! You have explained it so thoroughly ....so helpful!
thank you for a great video. i'm making car decals for christmas gifts and this helped tremendously.
I was debating whether or not to invest in a cricut or just pay someone to print my decals for me. This definitely was a huge seller for me to just make it myself and spend the money on a cricut. Thank you
lol love the bad "dad joke". This was such a great video and a lot of the comments were helpful to a newbie like myself. ill defiantly be a member to Makers in a few.
Haha thank you so much! Thats so sweet of you to say!
I’d like to make bumper stickers with my Cricut Maker, any tutorials anywhere?
Hope your Cricut maker is ok after the after spray went in the machine.
Thank you!
Thanks so much! Great job and informative for me as far as the transfer process...plus I learned about printing on vinyl to make an actual sticker which I never even thought about!
Thank YOU for your kind words!
We just purchased a machine. Truly I thought “we” were getting it for her. After learning what the machine can do, I think it will be well used. Thanks for the show and tell.
That's great! It's a super fun and versatile machine!
I am thinking of buying one.
I am a new member of Makers Gonna Learn and I am so excited to get started! Thank you for all the YT learning videos. They are greatly appreciated!
An overhead camera would be great.
Marilyn Mulkey Yes, it’s almost necessary.
That’s what I was thinking!
Agreed!
Where do you buy them
100%as you can’t see it close up at all :(
I learned so much. Had no idea about printable vinyl and I just got asked to make a thin red line flag car decal and I was so lost on how to do that so thank you for this!!!!
Glad it was helpful! You're welcome!
So THAT is what flatten means! Thank you!
That cricut machine is amazing. I have seen a lot of women make all sorts of cute decals and resell them ... they made a killing. I like it butttt to get it I would need more of a incentive.
Thank you for watching!
I love this vid - you explained very well and I use my guide all the time!
Thank you so much Calissa!
After placing in the glass could you cover it with the podge modge like the mugs?
Hi Rachel great job. I’m definitely going to make the Get Off My Tail decal.
Thanks for watching Shelly 💖
You’re welcome Tanner I love your channel and the membership is so AWESOME love it.
Thanks for these videos. I got one for my wife a while back. I now use more than her HA.! I am going to try printing some decals later this week.
Have fun!🙂
Thank you, I have been wanting to make some car decals
Yay! Thank you so much for watching 💖
Great projects and wonderful tutorial. Thank you. Fun pun too. Wishing you Rachel a super week. Hugs Susan
Yay! Thank you so much for watching
Oh my gosh girl… I don’t know how I came across this video that is a year old! But let me tell you a learn more in this one than that I have and from anyone else I really relate to you a lot! You are a awesome teacher! I currently signed up for six months and as we speak I’m trying to get some other information so I don’t have to search and search and search for you… Please help! I absolutely love my membership and all the access I have to the wonderful fonts and Cut files, they are amazing! I was just l wish for a easier way to be in touch besides searching RUclips… :-(
Thank you so much Rachel I never knew about the ceiling either so I greatly appreciate that tip. Can you tell me what type of printer I should be using for printed hot I have an HP that I have to load in tray and it's just not working
Thank you so much for watching Wanda!
Already did this tail one and its fabulous.. went thru the car wash with it and it was fine. Used 651 vinyl.
How is your decal holding up after a year?
How do u get the print to stick to the 651? Can't print it directly to it or do u?
What about putting them on the inside of the window to help protect them?
Rachel Yours And Tanner’s Videos Are So Helpful and So Well Explained Thank You For All You Do For MGL FAMILY MEMBERS ‼️‼️‼️‼️❤️❤️‼️❤️‼️❤️‼️‼️❤️‼️😃😃😃
Thank you so much Dawn 💖
I love it. Thank you
Love your tutorials. Thank you so much. You make it so easy to do a project after watching the tutorials.
I’m curious! What brand of “permanent” vinyl would you recommend for car decals? Also if I’m selling them I wouldn’t want the Cricut logo on the transfer tape so what would you recommend using?
You can use any make transfer tape, it doesn’t have to be Cricut.
Another tip if you live somewhere hot- wait until your car cools down in the evening or it will melt the vinyl and make it stretch.
Great tip! thank you so much for watching 💖
What was the transfer tape you recommended?
@@georginelegutko935 I use siser transfer tape from Michaels! :)
Like wise the reverse advice if you've got a tougher than normal bend. Use a heat gun to stretch the vinyl.
Good to know! Arizona lady here, 120 degrees in the SHADE in the midst of summer. Ugggh.
I love your video. It is very clear and easy to understand. I want to know how you do your lighting for these videos.I teach online and would love to hear how you get these beautiful videos.
Can you use a color laser printer to do the printing? New to Cricut Maker and need more detailed instruction on print then cut. I'm assuming the vinyl needs to be in the paper tray. Is there a prior video on Print then cut with more detail? Thanks!
Thank you Rachel!
Thanks for watching!
Great video can you use this machine to make model car decals and stencils for airbrushing?
Hey John, I build car models as well.....and 1/10 RC cars. I used low tack vinyl to make airbrush stencils for my 1/10 RC bodies. Cricut sells their own brand, but any brand of ‘temporary’ or low tack vinyl will work.
can you put more images on the same paper will cutter cut each one out or no
I'll be honest...I liked this video for the corny bear/bare joke. Thanks for all the super helpful tips!
Thank you so much for watching!
I also LOVED it!
I absolutely love Tanner and Rachel & everyone else!!! This has inspired me to deck my car out in Scooby Doo!!! Love printable vinyl!!!
I cant believe I have watched so many of.your videos without subscribing! I LOVE yalls channel and I cant wait to get my membership!
YAY!! Thank you so much!
QC
I about had a heart attack watching you spray the sealer and all that spray went all over your cricut...omg
I know right!!?? LOL
Seriously!
I was worried about the iPad too 😢
Same! Gave me anxiety! 🤣
Jup omfg
Hi Makers Gonna Learn... can you tell me a UK version of the sealer please? There’s so many, I’m overwhelmed! Fantastic video, thank you 😊
Thank you for the video. I've definitely gained some tips from this. I see it's almost been 2 years since you posted this video though, and I'm wondering how well the whale decal has held it's colour?
I never knew about sealing the printable vinyl. Thanks for the tips!!
Thank you so much!
I was told to use a clear layer for sealing the printable vinyl to make it “water resistant”; which is a better option the poly or the clear film layer ?
@@Karenm1969 I was wondering the same thing. I normally use a clear laminate but recently learned it didn't hold up in the water.
I design logos and i make artwork. and cannot wait to start a small business selling my work

What cord are you using with your iPad?
Do you have any contour videos.. i wanna learn to do multiple color decals.. cant seem to grasp it
Thanks for sharing this helpful video, also my blade is not cutting that good how much should I change the pressure too?
I have a saying I'm going to put on back of my truck, do I need to mirror image when using transfer paper?
No. you don't mirror when using adhesive vinyl
Great job- very informative ✏️
Thank you!
What type of paper did you use for the cut and print ?
Omg i need to know this
Thank you for the video! I’m fairly new to the “Cricut world” so I have a quick question. What’s the difference/advantage between printing the one out from a regular printer, making that a sticker vs. cutting the second one on the Cricut machine? I have several svg files that I wondered how they were going to look “cut out” vs. printed as is. Obviously, I was thinking everything had to be cut but I like the idea of printing the image and making that the sticker! Seems you can have more detail with the printed images. Thank you!
Cricut has a feature called print then cut. If you set your images in design space as print then cut, you can print your image from your printer and then your cricut will cut it out. This allows your cricut to be able to cut out multicolor images. RUclips “cricut print then cut” for more details.
@@jaliyadawson6579 your a boss am very new and you answer helped alot
Akil King No problem. Glad I could help someone!
im still tryna get it when you made the GET OFF MY Tail with the color printer on the paper how you keep it blue when the vinyl is white and non paper?
The tail was printed on printable sticker paper so you can do it any color, the bear was done on white permanent vinyl.
Hi, I'm curious as to how quickly your decals fade in the sun being that they're on a car. Does that spray actually protect against that long term? Especially since your using a dye-ink printer, those inks fade within days of sun exposure.
Thank you for watching!
If I want to make a multicolored or layered decal would the best option be the print version? If possible I’d prefer just using my machine. But I’ve only done single layer cuts so far. I want to make a cute Yeti sticker for my mom’s car. I can do single layer but it’d be cool to try a multi color/layer.
Thank you, again for ❤️ THE BEST ❤️ instructional videos!
Thank you for so many ideas. I love your videos and am so happy to have found your channel.
You are so welcome! We're so happy to have you!
Thank you for the video, I just came across it. Can these be applied directly to the paint, like on a door, gas tank of a motorcycle?
Love your video!
Can you put the cricut printable vinyl in a sublimation printer?
Where are the links to the poly spray and the paper transfer tape you mentioned
Great video. I enjoy watching you so much....
Thank you so much for watching!
With the limited number of colors; would it not make more sense to cut the design out of a matching color of vinyl? It would remove any need for sealing the printer ink.
What is the best kind of printer to use, Laser or Deskjet? Btw, thank you for this tutorial!
I'm just going to say, Deskjet, because the Laser will NOT work on Vinyl!
I like your energy and accent :). Looking forward to making my first decal. Thanks.
Thank you! Best of luck in making your first decal.
I will be attempting car decals soon and just wanted to ask….did you print with sublimation ink or regular printer ink?
How can I put on a Kayak, or make this waterproof.
Thank you!! Loved this tutorial!!
You are so welcome!🙂
I use no sealer. I print my printable vinyl on my Canon color laser printer. They turn out beautiful and permanent.
Was wondering if you can use printable vinyl on a stainless steel tumbler after spraying it with the polyurethane will that keep it from coming off while hand washing?
I actually have this same question
Anyone...?
Could you use minwax polycrylic sealer on the printable vinyl or would you just recommend using the spray version?
We would recommend the spray version over the brush on for simply sealing the decals :)
Great video! easy to follow and easy to understand! Thank you!
Glad it was helpful! Thank you so much for your kind words!
With so much ice and snow scrapping here, I would like to put decal on inside of vehicle. Would you mirror image to be able to do that ??
The issue with placing adhesive vinyl on the inside of the window is that it will show lots of bubbles under the glass. Also, you cannot place a printable vinyl inside the car and hope to see it on the outside.
Thank you for your video my question is the miniwax spray polyurethane clear satin spray a water base or oil base spray?
water based! :) Good question!
I bought a Cricut explore air 2 recently and am looking up all the different things I can do with it and this video was such a huge help! I have two questions, though. If doing the print-then-cut method, can I use any printer or does it have to be a specific kind (Inkjet, laser, etc)? And If you were to send these to someone would you send it with the transfer tape on the front so they can peel and stick or would you just send the decal on the backing and they could choose to use transfer tape or not?
Good questions! Any Inkjet printer works great with print then cut :) We recommend sending them with the transfer tape at least included if not already on the decal. Happy crafting!
for the printable decal not quite sure in how you place on car.... can u send a video in how you put the printable one on? i love that it was very helpful TY.
Here is a better video to reference :) ruclips.net/video/kJYedBe9fMA/видео.html
Can you put them on the car itself too or just the glass? I’m wanting to put an extra large one of my biz logo on the hood of my truck
Good question! You can put them anywhere you'd like outside the car :)
Thank you so much for this video! So is the printable vinyl sticky on the back like a sticker, or do you need to use transfer tape with it? Thanks.
It is sticky on the back, just like regular adhesive vinyl! Cricut Printable Vinyl: amzn.to/3bC84R7 . You sometimes need transfer tape with it, yes. We recommend this kind because it is gentle on the printable vinyl and wont peel up any ink: Masking Paper Transfer Tape: amzn.to/3bB57jJ
Can I use the printer I already have for die cut vinyl or does the printer I use need something special to do this?
All you need is any inkjet printer to use Printable Vinyl :)
What is the name of the transfer tape you used? Not the cricket..
Thank you for this video!!! I’ve officially made my first decal!! 🤩
Wonderful!❤🎉
@@MakersGonnaLearn what cricut machine did you use? I'm trying to learn which I need, I'm new to this. Thinking the explore air 2 but it only does white paper? I want to do shirts and decals I need my own little business
“whether you want this on your rear view mirror..” 🤣
HA! Of course I said that! Hilarious. Must not have caught it while editing the video either LOL!
Can you use oracle 651 on the car itself and not the windows also? Does anyone know if it holds up?
What ink cartridges do you use
Wow! So cool!!!! One question: If I wanted to sell homemade car decals made with Cricut's images, how do I know which images have Angel Policy and which ones don't? Thanks =)
You would have to contact the owner/designer of said images to be sure. With Makers Gonna Learns' Yearly Membership, members can use ALL of our cut files and fonts in projects to sell, no guessing game :) www.makersgonnalearn.com/join/
What was the program that was being use to make the decal?
Thanks for the video and clear instructions. I'm new to the Cricut scene and I've been meaning to make a decal for my friend.
You're very welcome!
thank you for sharing. was a great help to me.
Thank YOU for watching and commenting!
Does the window cling vinyl have to be mirrored? Also what all types of printers can you use for the print & cut ones? I have a hp deskjet 2700 model. Will it work??
Thank you. I love you videos. So informative. What is the name of the transfer paper you mentioned?
Here you go, friend! :) Masking Paper Transfer Tape: amzn.to/3bB57jJ
Can you use premium matte vinyl instead of the permanent vinyl??
Yes! I have premium on the back window of my vehicle now. I like it better on my windows because it scrapes off easier.
Hi, I love ❤️ your videos. I'm a member already. How can I make decals to sale and put them on peel and stick tape. So it will be easier for the buyers to apply?
Thanks 😊
Question can we use any type of printable vinyl or sticker paper and seal it with the polyurethane?
Good question. I would assume so, yes. However, we do not want to give detailed advice on other products that we have not used. We always use Cricut Printable Vinyl because it's a great product (and we don't love many of Cricuts' products, so that's saying something), and it's never given us any issues. Other brands could require other procedures. But I would guess you could seal other brands as well :)
Girl, where you from?! Just a curious Texas girl who is fascinated with southern dialects lol. The Carolina's, Georgia, Tennessee?? Love it!!
I do believe they are from Tennessee. :)
Can you print with ink jet printer
Good video. I didn't even know there was such a thing as printable vinyl. I just bought an Explore Air to experiment with.
Have fun!🙂
There are lots of different brands too. Look for printable sticker paper. Enjoy..
I saw someone with an UPSIDE-DOWN dream catcher decal a few days ago... I took a picture lol
You've got to be kidding *face palm* LOL!
Can we cut the vinyl to the size of the image after print? Thank you
Yes, you do not have to use the Cricut to cut it, feel free to hand cut it if you want.
If I make a decal for a leased vehicle, what kind of vinyl should I use as I want to take the decal off when turning in the car?
Can you put both of these types of car decals on the actual body of the car? So not on the windows on actual paint, or does it damage car paint ?
Great tutorial. One question do they stand up to car washes ?
Great question! Yes, they do! I had these on my car for over 2 years until I sold my car and then I had to remove them myself.
I knew I came to the right spot for car decals.
Woohoo!!!
How do I add my own pic to cut as a decal vinyl?
Glory Garcia upload it through design place and it’ll give you the ability to take out and make it more detailed or take out diff parts I upload a lot of my drawings and fine tune them through design space.
