We planted 100lbs of seed potatoes this year. They have all sprouted and we are going to have a LOT of potatoes!! Good thing our family is big!

Newbie here… are seed potatoes just regular potato’s that have sat around and had a chance to sprout?? How many potatoes grow from one seed potatoe? Your videos are great, no bs or extra fluff solid info. Thanks!

Yes:) You can opt to buy organic potatoes and let them sprout and plant them or to buy seed potatoes that are certified to be disease free from a seed or farmers supply center.

🥔❤️🥔 I put in 2 - 48 ft. rows in one of my in ground gardens, here in central Georgia! Kennebec, Yukon Gold and Norland Red… old standbys! Wish I had thought to companion plant with peas - I’ll make a note for next year! Thank you for bringing us along!!! 🥔❤🥔

Do you have wire worm in the US. Its in my garden beds in the UK they get in to the potatoes and then they are no good. This year I have got 30 ltr buckets filled with compost to plant in good luck with your garden this season.

I’ve not heard of those here. I hope the containers will help you have a good harvest without the pest pressure.

I am growing potatoes in my raised beds and I am growing them in grow bags as well

I really like the raised beds and containers for potatoes. I’m afraid I wouldn’t have as much success in my in ground garden:)

A bit interesting, I have always wedge cut the eyelets for planting. It really saves on number I need to grow in pounds to something more manageable to store like 5-7 pounds and direct sowing them. In North Idaho I plant based more on feel of around ~12 inches depth (12 inches is like a R-6 R-12 insulating them for earlier planting but frees up time to do other things during planting season.
Some say to let it sit for 'curing' to prevent rot but I have not experienced wide failure's and the same issue of having rot can effect an entire potato.

That is great to know. I have cut mine in the past, but this year, many of mine were on the smaller side so I planted them whole. Hopefully we both get a bumper crop this year!

I planted in 50/60 litre bags 20lbs of main crop spuds mid march which is very early for us here in the Northwest of England. That was based on the temperature then and weather forecasts. It's been warm enough and until yesterday they were well protected by fleece but it has been WET. Half my tops are up but I suspect that I've lost many to drowning. Last year we had a wet summer followed by a wet winter and are having a monsoon of a spring. The previous summer what affected my potatoes negatively? The snow in March? No I planted in April. Well it was the hottest summer on record, drought, what else? In the UK we do not have a climate just lots of weather.

That stinks! The weather can turn so quickly! We are very wet here in the early spring, and also get driving rain at times which can wreak havoc and literally wash newly sprout crops away!

Got most of my potatoes planted on Sunday, and now we have snow. lol Gotta love WI weather. You don't cut yours? Each potato can be cut with sprouts on each piece thus giving you even more plants, just an fyi.

That’s quite risky when the potato is pruned…meaning ‘raisen like’.
Cutting the potato up and letting it cure is much safer for solid potatoes that have just chitted.

@@MommaT1970I'm not going to lie, I'm confused by your comment. Did I say I didn't let them cure? Or where is the confusing part of my comment?

I usually cut mine but this year, they all seemed small to me and I ended up having a lot to plant so I decided to leave them whole:) Hopefully it’ll still give me a great harvest!
