    One thing that struck me - you talked about weird things happening. I live in a mining town in the Canadian bush. I was out of town last summer when a forest fire (very common around here) burnt up MILES of fibre-optic cable, resulting in almost complete loss of communications with the outside world - no internet or cell phones and only a few old copper-based phone lines still working and a few people with satellite internet. Due to the fires it was 4 days without these things - our infrastructure is actually MUCH more fragile than we realize.

      I agree. And unfortunately, many people don't know how to function when these things are down. We saw a bit of this when hurricane Helene hit here. Before the winds even stopped, people were panicking. They hadn't stocked up on food or fuel. It was a bit shocking to see how society falls apart even within 24 hours of a tragedy.

      Many people did not take anything with them. They left identification documents, family heirlooms, supplies......everything. I think it is important to have a plan whether you need to stay put or to evacuate. Your world looks very different if you are prepared.

    I absolutely agree!!! However it was my dream to homestead, but that still doesn’t mean it’s easy. I also want to say in a funny way “don’t ever throw away goat milk” lol. Give it to your plants if you don’t give it to your animals 😂 I am so crazy when it comes to our milk. I’m like teaching my daughter how to water all my plants with milky water when the jar still has a little residue in it. Just call us crazy homesteader mamas.

      It is very expensive. I would love to have a barn, but the garage will work to store hay for now. Also, we make do with an old 1500 pickup. Would love to buy a 2500 to better haul or feed but the price tag is ridiculous!!!!

    Emergency seeds are trash. Theyre mostly lettuce, which has no calories for survival. You would starve, trying to live on lettuce. Instead, look at your state ag center website and learn which varieties of corn, squash, beans and potatoes are recommended. Cross reference with ‘slow foods ark of taste’ and AAS all america selections, to get varieties of proven calorie producing garden varieties for your area. Its not easy to choose the right seeds for your area, but success is very rarely easy. Also, spend $20 to get a soil test done so you know what you need to add to your soil to successfully grow those seeds.

They are great layers though.

      There is a lot to agenda 2030. Things on the surface seem good and like admirable goals. But when you start to research it ( on their own website and watch the videos that they have released) you start to see why it will be a dangerous thing. World government, “ you will own nothing and be happy,” etc. It’s all about governmental control of the population and I don’t believe their motives are good. In fact, quite the opposite.

Where I live camping out anywhere is not tolerated. These people by far are mostly addicts. All the tax dollars spent should be audited & never given directly to them. Spend the billions on state of the are mental & rehab facilities. Then their choice is treatment, prison or leave. It is sad. But the destruction of quality of life for the average citizen should not be tolerated. From fires, to needles to feces to crime to children being exposed to grown up issues. Then build the already approved reservoirs, fire breaks, electric poles buried, prescribed burns, maintain fire access roads that are no longer graded or cleared, fix the 100 fire trucks out of service, & forget dei & hire a lot more qualified fireman. (Thank you for your service in helping others)

We recently got meat rabbits. We homeschool our children. Unfortunately we don't have enough land for cows or goats. We did a cowshare from a local farmer for the raw milk

    • @MorganHillFarms
      @MorganHillFarms 14 часов назад

      Not sure how much land you have, but we have 2 Nubian goats for milk and keep them in an area that has a perimeter of 328 ft. It isn't huge, but we rotate them every couple of months. Some people keep goats on a dry lot, meaning just bare ground and don't rotate them. that is a option as well, just need a bit more hay and feed.

They would simply cut dowm a whole row of green beans and leave the plants or cut down my cabbages like a beaver takes out a tree. Year 2 was much better. Well said. We also have a "large" garden and over 60 fruit trees. We can and some years do produce more than we can use or give away. However, the garden is an insurance policy. If for any reason something happens to the food chain, we will still be able to eat and probably help our neighbors. Yes, it is a lot of work ; but most good things are a lot of work. And my friend has more eggs than they need, so I trade my honey for her eggs. All is good.

    Food security is more important as time goes by. It takes a lot of time to establish a homestead and the knowledge required to make it happen. I look at my garden like a money printing press, it’s amazing how much food can be grown from saved or purchased seed. Manure, shredded leaves and water….its not hard when you learn to do it the correct way.

    • @MorganHillFarms
      @MorganHillFarms 2 дня назад

      This is 100% true. It is the time and commitment it takes that I think people underestimate. I have great ideas of things I want to do, and when I finally get around to trying them, it is a lot harder initially than I thought! If I persevere, then overtime these things become second nature. Sticking with something in not a common trait in our society as of late.

    I am in 8a. When doing seed shopping how do you know they r for your zone, if they r for high tunnel and d what does all that f1 hybrid mean? Can u do a video asap so I can order my seeds

    • @MorganHillFarms
      @MorganHillFarms 2 дня назад

      Your zone only means the average cold temperatures that your area gets in the winter. Zone is more important for perennials like fruit trees that can survive only down to a certain temp. For example, I have a lemon tree but if it gets colder than 10 degrees, it will kill the tree. If I protect it from those cold temps, the tree will live and produce year after year. You mostly want to look at temperatures that vegetables will not survive in. Most of your summer crops - tomatoes, cucumbers, corn, melons, peppers - will not survive any temperature that could produce a frost or freeze. Your fall and spring crops like cabbage, broccoli, peas, carrots will tolerate frosts and some of the cabbage and broccoli will even survive a freeze. Try googling what it is you want to grow and asking the question " How cold can tomatoes tolerate?" In seed catalogs and online they will often tell you if a certain variety means that it is for a high tunnel. Just look at the description. A lot of high tunnel varieties will be self pollinated to allow for good production without bees, and insects needing to pollinate them. F1 hybrid is simply a seed that is produced by crossing 2 different parent plants of the same type. For instance, a seed company may cross a California wonder pepper and and emerald giant bell pepper. Perhaps they want the size of the emerald giant pepper but also want the high production of the California wonder pepper. The resulting seed would result in the best qualities of these 2 plants. I really like f1 hybrid tomatoes because they allow me to grow tomatoes with less disease that will continue to produce in the high summer temps here. Most heirloom tomatoes will die from disease and stop setting fruit when the temps get too hot. Hybrids give me the ability to grow and harvest more. Hope this helps!!!!

    These fires and lack of emergency management is one of the reasons we left california several years ago (northern LA County). Our neighborhood was evacuated due to a fire in the hills behind us. At the top of the hill were 3 schools with only one way in and one way out. The emergency alert system was broken that day so police had to go door to door. We found out when our dog walker ran into a blockade at the bottom of the hill. 15 minutes later we received an alert from my son's elementary school that they were evacuating. However, due to the congested traffic of all the parent trying to rush up the hill to get their kids, they couldn't get the buses in to get the kids. So both the high school and middle school kids starting walking the mile down the hill to reach community college on other side of the highway and the buses focused on the elementary school kids. It took my husband and I about 3 hours to get through all the traffic to pick up our son from the community college. With all the fires that happen in CA, one would think that there would be better evacuation plans. I still have family back and some have been impacted by these recent fires. But they chose to stay and protect their property, plus they had sprinklers installed on their roof for this reason and set up to pull water from their pool when needed. So their house and their neighbors house is fine where others are burned down.

    As you touched on, Hurricane Helene left people in Appalachia devastated, too! It’s only a short look back to realize that the Government is Not coming to save us! And… I think the grab for land/resources goes back a little further to Maui, as well! Hard not to think that it’s all being orchestrated! I just try to keep looking up, prepare for what’s ahead and put one foot in front of the other on His good path! The Lord’s Continued Blessings!!! ❤️❤️❤️
