EXACTLY this issue on our exact same set....much appreciated for the detail here...especially the actual cycles and their full descriptions....which I too did not receive when the set was purchased. First thought is to use heavy duty to replace the normal/eco mode and go from there. Vinegar makes complete sense as well and that'll be the next step....excellent video, thank you!

I am glad I came across your video. I purchased the TC5 & DC5 a couple of days ago I ran the washer and the same exact thing happen to me. I ran the washer with no clothes the second time no issues. I have never had an issue before with the standpipe drain. Have you had any issues since adding the vinegar?? Thanks

Here is what worked for me after trying everything in this thread yet continued suds. We never had this issue with any washer in past except for this new Speed queen TC5. Our standpipe also is not clogged. I took a large sponge (approx 2.75" thick by 4" wide by 8 inches long) and cut in half. I put a hole in the center of sponge to where I could get the drain hose all the way into it. I then compressed the sponge and put into the 2" pvc stand pipe. Next, I put the drain hose into the sponge in the stand pipe. It provides a good tight seal yet sponge is breathable. After 8 loads.......no suds on any setting. Also I am using 1 TBS (Tide) detergent and 2 TBS vinegar just in case. I hope this helps someone out there.

Rick. It's nice of you to take the time out and share your findings with people. I'm that guy that does not read the manual till after the fact. In my older and more wiser years. I have read the manual before starting. Just an added information for you, case you didn't see it in the manual. On page 12 about adding the soap. Note "Measure and add Low Sudsing, High Efficiency (HE) detergent to the washtub. NOTE: HIGH EFFICIENCY (HE) DETERGENT IS RECOMMENDED for use in this machine. My wife and I are not using any detergent. We are trying something different a product call "Pure Wash Pro" . No need for soap or Hot water. You tube it if you like. Just some extra information to put out there for you and those watches your videos. Thank you and to the people who take time in their lives to put out good information for others.
I have been looking for a solution to this for a few years. We have the same exact issue that drives me crazy. I’ve been wrapping a small wash cloth around it to keep it from running down the wall. As with you I knew I didn’t have any blockage. I’m going to run vinegar through it empty and start adding it to loads. Funny how I thought I was the only one experiencing this problem. Thanks a million!

Thankyou. This truly helped!! Solution I am now using is 3 Tbs diluted white vinegar in rinse, 1 Tide pod and alternating with Permanent Press cycle and Heavy Duty cycle. I do agree this is a defect and have reported to BBB. Again Thankyou A workaround!!

We had this same issue. We were using liquid detergent and it was causing foam bubbles. We started using pods and it fixed the problem. Have used all the different options & cycles and no more issues since using pods.
We just got this exact washer today. Washed 5 loads of clothes and noticed soapy water all over the floor and coming out the drain pipe and hose. We are using Tide Pods. No more than 2 at a time. Maybe for this washer that's too many? I'm running vinegar through it right now to try to get rid of the foam. Pretty disappointed in the washer. Have waited over 5 weeks for it to arrive only for this to happen on day one. 🤷🏼♀️

@@cindyshapland5316I think that is too much detergent for the normal cycle. The salesman told me when I bought mine that SQ had to, by law, make the normal cycle an 'eco' cycle, and that it only uses a small amount of water. He told me to use the permanent press cycle as my normal cycle cause it uses half a tub of water, or a whole tub if you use the deep fill option.

Ok Rick. You are my hero today! 😂 My washer ALSO does this. I just order the lint trap cover for the dryer you mentioned now I am watching your fix for the washer. You are so thorough in your videos!! Thank you!
OMG, so happy to find this video as we just recently been having the same problem with our SQ TC5,. We have been using the Normal/Eco mode most of the time and after watching this, we switched to Permanent press - and guess what, no foaming issue! Again, thanks for the great info and solution. It really helped us!
Went and tried a load with the Heavy Duty setting this morning. This setting gives a complete soaking rinse and then a high speed spin to get all of the water out. It is just as you mention, while it drains just fine after the wash cycle, it started to blow bubbles right at the very end of the rinse cycle when it is in high speed spin. I ended up having to cancel the spin at the very end and pull the clothes out early and clean up the bubble mess. I read below that people are using a small amount of fabric softener in the middle container. Are they putting it in at the beginning of the wash or sometime after? I'd like to try this. I know it isn't my drain as it drains fine with the Permanent Press cycle and I also stuck a garden hose down the pipe and turned the water on full blast and there was no issue.
Hello. We add white vinegar. Not fabric softener. Please hit "Show More" on my description above. I've put all my notes and my findings are there. I would do my #1 above, then use vinegar in the future. Rick
Thanks for vinegar idea. When I cook peas or dried beans I put a tsp white vinegar and the beans or peas never boil over. Same with machine and fast spend I think affects the detergent in some way to foam.
I purchased my SQ in August and have been loving it! This week, I’ve noticed we are experiencing this exact same issue. I am so glad I found your video!
Rick, Thank you so much for this post. I bought the speed queen washer and dryer about 2 years ago because I heard it was the best. To my great disappointment, I am stuck with this very same problem with this expensive washing machine. I called the service department of the vendor who sold me the SQ right after I purchased it and I was told that they never heard of this problem. I next spent several hundred of dollars on a plumber thinking there must be a problem with my plumbing, it cannot be this expensive new machine creating the issue. The plumber was baffled and came up with the conclusion that I must have a venting issue in the plumbing to cause this discharge. After tearing out the ruined water soaked drywall, the plumber added a venting pipe to the drain line which did not change anything. Now down several hundreds of dollars and left with a large hole in my wall I next tried the rubber plug but it did not work. In addition to the large hole in my wall, my new expensive wood floor underneath the washing machine is now ruined from the constant suds coming out of the drain line. I cannot wait to try your fix. Thank you so much for posting this for us. Fingers crossed! By the way, Speed Queen should come up with a better solution for the people that bought these expensive washing machines. I would have never bought this washing machine (nor probably anyone else) if I was told at the time of purchase that this washing machine might pour suds all over my wall and floor after every use but you might be able to correct it by adding vinegar to every load. Speed Queen if you are reading these posts, you need to do something for your customers that are having these issues. It certainly appears to be a common problem in light of all these posts.
Hi Charles. Thank you for taking the time to post your experience. I'm sorry your end result has gotten that bad. I believe your post will help others understand the seriousness of this issue. Let me know if the vinegar works for you. Rick
The machine can’t create this problem ur either using to much soap I bet u it won’t happen if u run ANY CYCLE AT ANY TEMP WITH NO SOAP AT ALLspeed queens flushes probably 20 more gallons of water than ALL OTHER WASHERS the water drains but suds float just like in ur sink or tub. It just shows u how much soap was left in ur wash by ur old ineffective washes speed queens have a full tub wash and rinse
It’s a design flaw and they know it. They told me it wasn’t the machine. They will not accept responsibility because it would cost them to much money. My wall is ruined from the bubbles. It’s not a blockage if it’s soap bubbles on the spin cycle. If it was just water being pumped out then I’d say maybe it is a blockage/venting issue. Bottom line it’s the washer…expensive washer. BTW no one should have to use vinegar to try to correct the situation. If that’s the case it should be in the manual.
I just bought a TC 5, and the salesman told me they had to, by law, make the eco setting, and it uses too little water. He said use the permanent press setting as your normal wash, and it uses a half tub of water, or a whole tub if you select deep fill. It sounds like there is residual soap left in the machine, and that is how the foam is being generated. You gotta use more water to get that soap rinsed out.
I have the same issue with my one year old tc5. Normal/eco mode is the worst. I will try vinegar but I wrap a light AC foam around the drain hose about 3 inches up and put it in the vertical standpipe and problem solved. As long as I didn't clog the standpipe but the foam is breathable. My dishwasher drains into the same pipe and I don't want it choked off. We just bought a new bosch dishwasher! Even having about 12 episodes of suds all over the basement floor, concrete, easy clean up-we love the machine
Thank you Rick for taking the time to explain this. We just noticed that we have foam leaking out of the drain pipes of our speed Queen too. We have never noticed it before but there are evidences showing that it has been a problem for a while. Quick search on RUclips displayed this video at the top. We will try the vinegar method for every load as we sometimes use vinegar to clean out kids’ clothes.
Have this washer almost 3 years now and we always use 2 ounces of vinegar with liquid soap and never had any foam. I didn't even know it was a problem.

Rick thank you so much for this video! We have the exact same model and exact same problem, bubbles everywhere and water on the floor. I don't want water on the floor near my new washer as I don't want the bottom of it to rust as a result. I say new washer only because my last washer (a Maytag ) lasted 30 years, but that was back in the day when machines were mechanical and not all this computerized stuff, which is why I bought this model (TC5003 WN) because it was NOT a touchscreen and all of that computerized stuff that can fail. This model is mostly what I call a mechanical model and it also has the option of hot water which many washers nowadays don't have. I tried different things like using the lower water level and not using the high water level but that didn't seem to make a whole lot of difference. We were actually on our way to pick up our standpipe adaptor from the warehouse (part number 36878) and while we still will try this part we want to try the remedies that you said worked for you as well. Even the guy in the warehouse (when I called today) mentioned that the air pumping down the standpipe makes the residual soap bubbles multiply so he was saying he wasn't sure how much this part would help. I told him I thought the hard plastic of the drain hose along with the ridges it has inside and out were causing some of these excess bubbles (as opposed to having a softer plastic drain hose that is smooth on the inside and out). I told him I didn't know if this was a design flaw or not, but he did say almost exactly what you are mentioning about the pump and spin cycles being so very strong and fierce. I agree with you that I like having the clothes almost bone dry as the drying time is cut down dramatically! All this being said, I do have a couple of questions. You mentioned 1 ounce of vinegar to be put in the wash cycle and I was wondering if the capful of your detergent is also 1 ounce or is it more than that? Where do you get your detergent? I've noticed less bubbling when we used ONE of the little Arm & Hammer laundry pods that you throw in the bottom of the washer before you put your clothes in but I can't stand the smell of them! Also my vinegar is Heinz multi-purpose vinegar extra strength (6% acidity) that I use for cleaning (windows, decalcifying my k-cup coffee machine, etc.). I think I got it at Walmart. Do you think that would be too strong or should I just go with regular strength vinegar? Also you mentioned that the the normal economy cycle does not have the fill and agitate as part of the rinse cycle, so I'm wondering what is the best setting for me to use to get around this rinse cycle problem as I don't think I can change the rinse cycle in the middle, after my choices have been set. Basically, which washer settings have you had the best luck with as far as avoiding the bubble/water problem? Even though you're saying the vinegar is pretty much going to stop the problem I still just wanted to hear your take on which settings have worked best for you. Sorry this is so long, I'll be grateful for whatever answers you might have!
Hi Deborah. Thank you for leaving a comment. No problem with the length of you questions. I am a "details" guy and appreciate everyone else who is also. * We use any generic white vinegar. Our current bottle reads 5%, so you are good with 6%. * We pour 1-2 ozs in the middle dispenser at the same time we add the clothes and detergent. * We've used Atsko Sport Wash detergent for at least a decade now. It has no additives and no fragrances. Just pure detergent. * We use the Heavy Duty cycle for all clothes, and Bulky for bed sheets. * Every once in great awhile we still get a very small amount of foaming. It never foams much, and it never gets too big that it threatens to run down the wall. * Please click on the "Rick's Tid-Bits" by the video to go to my RUclips channel. I think you will find some more interesting tips in the "How To Make Life Easier" section. Rick
@@rickstid-bits Thanks again! I've never put anything in that middle dispenser as I never really knew what it was for! You don't put your detergent in there though do you? I will have to try that detergent as it does sound good. I will stick with the heavy duty cycle for clothes and bulky sheets for sheets and blankets like you say and if I'm doing anything truly delicate then I'll use that cycle but I will stay away from the Eco Cycle! And I guess you man click where it says subscribe. I'll do that now. Thank you again! Deborah
You're welcome. The vinegar goes in that cup inside the agitator. The detergent goes in with the clothes. Please read my entire description below the video. I've added a lot of what I've learned there. Rick

Just purchased a brand new home and had my machines delivered and installed and I am getting the bubbles out of the drain obviously this is a Speed Queen problem
Rick - this was super helpful. We just bought a TC5003WN and it did the foaming thing almost immediately. We thought it was an installation problem b/c the installers did not put the adapter into the standpipe. They came back and fixed that problem but the foaming eventually started up again. I followed your advice: ran the empty washer on heavy duty with some vinegar (NOTE: your pinned note says to add 1/2 GALLON of vinegar but elsewhere in these comments I see "1/2 cup." I probably put in 3 cups - sort of splitting the difference...) then stopped using "Normal Eco" cycle for washing. Before each wash I put an ounce of vinegar directly into the standpipe (it's easy to access). So far, after a week of doing this - and we do a lot of laundry as we have 3 young boys - there has been no repeat foaming. Although I do agree with the sentiment expressed a number of times in the comments, "I paid $1400 for a washing machine, I should not have to do this kind of preventive maintenance," we are still *extremely* happy with the SQ - I would recommend it to anyone. I think that in the longer term we'll probably get a plumber to run the drain directly into the utility sink drain, which should remove the need to add vinegar, but in the near term the vinegar is doing the trick and I am so happy to have found this video. Thank you!

My LG has been doing this for 6 months, Thank you, I have had my pipes cleaned out, Then had the septic tank pumped, i do that every 5 years so ok, Ive had my handyman clean out the vent pipes in roof, nothing has worked. I called my appliance repair man to ask about the machine, they did know, so I called my plumbers wife, she googled it, found your video. it seems to have solved it, im a few washings into this. I have used machine cleaners on it, they didn't change a thing, SInce I used the vinegar and dawn dish soap it has stopped foaming, I'm going to keep it up and pray this is it. Thank you sooooo much.
I also bought a speed queen TC5. Nicely built machine, but mine also foams over like crazy. But its going back with the expense of a 20% restocking fee unfortunately. I dont think one should have to walk on egg shells to do their laundry.

Appreciate the video. Mine which is exactly like your is doing the same thing. It ruined the wall behind the washer. Almost every part has been changed after having the washer for less than a year. Did the whole vinegar directions per speedqueen. They said I would not have to continue this once I followed their protocol. It is still happening. I have never experienced this issue with any washer I’ve owned in the past. I believe it is a manufacturer defect in design. The spin cycle is only 720rpm which really isn’t as fast as some others out there. I went to the bbb website and the reviews and complaints are pretty bad. Wish I had gone there first before spending the money I did on this washer. I know and they know it’s a known issue.
Hi Joanne, You're welcome. I agree. I'm 65 and have never had another washer do this. There has to be an easy fix for this. I wish they would develop a fix and initiate a recall, and have all these fixed under warranty.
Thank You for this video!!! I have a SQ and have been dealing with this for years! It doesn’t matter how little of detergent I use. It foams up and drives me crazy. I’ll definitely be trying this method! Thank You again!

Had plumbers out again today $(235) again after they left, foam again. Saw your video and will try smaller amount of detergent, along with vinegar and see what happens. Hope it works. Thanks again.

I just ran a load with the vinegar and soap, resumt was tiny bit of foam one right side of pipe. No where near what we had previously. The flour drain was ok too. I did not put them funnel looking rubber piece in, as I dont want to "install" anything that may void the warranty ig not "installed" by the pros who initially pit it in. You sir are a freaking genius. Thanks for all you diligence on this! Bought same model washer 2 months ago and bubbles this AM. Found this and did blank full water load on heavy duty double rinse with 1/2 cup of white vinegar. No bubbles. Then did normal load of towels with 2oz soap and 2 oz vinegar in soap holder. NO BUBBLES. THANK YOU!

Rick- Thank you very much for the video and for the insight into what's really going on with our scenario of suds backing up. We've had a plumber out twice to snake the line and it was clean both times, and were about to allow him to tear into the wall to 'rebuild the drain correctly.' Now we know what to do to solve the issue and it doesn't involve new pipes or tearing out sheetrock. Kudos to you for figuring out the issue and sharing it with the world.

I've been having the same issue. Even after making adjustments to the wash mode, trying vinegar & other ideas, bubbles still continued to flow out on the final spin cycle. I made a call to the Speed Queen Queen in Texas. I told her the issue. She quickly stated to run each next set of loads without any detergent. That detergent is more concentrated now & too much is remaining in the clothing. She recommends after washing all loads w/ just water to get rid of the detergent from the machine and clothing, to start using only 2 tablespoons per load. She said that will be sufficient. So far, I'm just washing w/ water & will start with less detergent within the next weeks. If bubbles return at that point, I'll put in another comment about the problem. If not, all is good. Oh, she mentioned using wool dryer balls in the dryer instead of sheets. Add essential oil drops to the balls if you want a fragrance. Wish me luck!
Today after experiencing this issue called Speed Queen customer service. They confirmed this happening but stated no machine defect. I was told to run a wash with nothing in tub but 1 cup white vinegar and 1 tbs dish soap to clean residual soap. Told to use heavy duty cycle ( Not Eco) so full water in rinse cycle thus soap bubbles diluted. I was told to use only high efficiency soap. But this is not a machine defect- why did I spend more for speed queen? Thankyou video truly helped!!!!
Thank you for your video. I spoke the speed queen as well and have run numerous loads with hot water and vinegar per their instructions. I’m going to try just using the perm press cycle and see if it is better. I don’t think it is the drain because everything was fine until the new washer was installed. The appliance place is willing to swap it out for me and I’m leaning towards doing that. So disappointed. Loved my old speed queen. I wish I saw your video before my purchase.

Thanks so much, Rick, for this excellent explanation and all the experimentation you went through, which has benefited so many of us "plagued" with the same foaming issue. Even with a free-standing standpipe rising 20" above the washer we still get foam during the last few minutes of the final spin cycle, which is very fast, as you said. I recently heard that a washing machine should use a 2" standpipe, not the 1 1/2" that we have. That may be part of our problem. Tomorrow, we're going to try your suggestion (adding distilled white vinegar along with the soap) and will update our experience in the near future if we can find this RUclips site again. By the way, we have used distilled white vinegar in the opening of the agitator instead of fabric softener before starting the wash cycle. Adding one or two ounces in the water as well hopefully will solve the issue. Question: do you think that using a little OxyClean along with the detergent will cause foaming? I'd appreciate an answer if you have the time. Thanks again.
Hi Jeanlouis. You're welcome. Thank you for the kind words. It sounds like you might have read my entire description. If you haven't: Please click on "more" at the bottom of my description and read everything there. For you: Please do my Step #1 (Full Flush). Please read about all the different cycles and don't use Eco/Normal. You are doing correct by adding vinegar in the center of the agitator. When the machine spins at the end of the Wash cycle - that's when it will be added: Then, the vinegar will be in there during the final Rinse. That's when you need it in the water. The 8 minute long High Speed Spin occurs then, and it's during the last 3 minutes of that spin that the foam happens. Please come back and let me know how it goes. Rick
Mine does this too. I’ve only had it for a month so far. First time the appliance repair guy found a crack in the black drain pipe. I thought it was fine but I don’t generally hang out near the washer while it’s finishing. Just noticed last night that it’s still happening. I’m going to try the vinegar trick and after my regular HE detergent is gone I’ll try pods (like someone else said) or an alternative detergent. Thanks for your video!

I’m very disappointed as I bought this washer specifically to not have any issues with the washer. I’ll try vinegar, if that works this is the most helpful video I’ve ever found on YT. I want to add that I was using Arm and Hammer detergent for 8 months and never had bubble issue. Switched to Gain Moonlite Scent Detergent and the issue appeared right away, this detergent must be more bubbly. But that’s absurd that I cannot use any detergent, TC5 literally has written on it that it’s “commercial use” so should handle detergents. I did a lot of research before I bought and everyone was recommending SQ.
Hello. Well . . . At least - I'm glad that the Arm and Hammer worked for you. I can suggest you do a couple complete flushes of the washer and then go back to using it. Hello. Thank you for adding your experience. You have a unique set-up, and I'm curious: Do you ever see bubbles leaving the washer's drain hose or lying in the sink immediately after a wash? Rick
I just got my machines recently and I am having the same exact problem. Called the company we purchased from, they came out and couldn't fix it. I put a towel around the stand pipe to soak up the bubbles. I should not have to do that with a brand new washing machine that cost a pretty penny. I will try your vinegar trick. I hope it helps. Thanks for making this video. The salesman tried to tell me he's only heard of one other person having this problem..... I didn't have an issue with my previous washer.
Thank you so very much for your insight. I am currently experiencing this exact problem on my two year old T5 model, as well. I am going to run a cycle with hot water and one cup of vinegar. Moving forward, if I still have a foam issue in the final drain cycle, I will start to incorporate a cap of vinegar with the detergent. Many thanks.
@@rickstid-bits So far, I've completed two loads (after the hot water / vinegar treatment)... NO SUDS. This over-sudsing situation was totally my fault. I used too many Tide pods, at once. They are very concentrated and I'm sure they contributed to the build up of detergent, in the interior walls of the tub. For now, the treatment you suggested worked very well. I will do my part and pay closer attention to the manufacturer's directions, on the pod containers. Thanks, again.
I have the exact same one and it’s doing the same thing. However, I use a half a cup of white vinegar in every load. I’ve checked my drain pipe. I’m about ready to take the drain hose off the back of the machine just to make sure that, it is clear, so what do you suggest? an extra rinse or don’t use the normal cycle? And thank you so much for making a video.
Hi Teddi, You're welcome. Please click on the word More in my description, and then read everything I wrote there. Never use Normal. Normal doesn't even have a Rinse cycle!
like others on this channel i discovered similar issues with an older (11 years to be exact) speed queeen comercial washer. let me first state ,this has been a wonderful machine with absolutely no problems except the foaming. am not sure how long foaming has occured, but do know that it is consistent since i discovered it by accident a couple of months ago. have since tried some of the solutions posted here with inconsistent results. have tried other things and found a solution that is working 100% of the time, approx. 20 loads sofar. the machine pumps water(and air ) at the end of the rinse cycle so fast, that ,is in my opinion causes the foaming. the solution for me,(my entire rince cycle on permanent press or regular cycle is approx. 14 minutes ), is to shut off the rinse cycle at approx. 11 minutes into the cycle, wait 15 minutes ,then turn machine back on to finish cycle. NO FOAM OR WATER also, the 14 minutes is from when the tub starts to fill with water. good luck

I am sure you know this, but I would also make sure that you are using HE (High Efficiency) detergent in that washer, they do produce less suds. But on the drain pump, you are correct, because the drain pump is attached to the motor, and because it is attached to the motor, it runs in reverse while in agitation, but it will not pump water out of the machine. But when it is spinning, it turns in the other direction, pumping water out of the machine.
I was so interested to find your post here. I have been having this problem with my old SQ and my brand new one; the dealer told me to call my plumber which I did, and proceeded to spend a LOT of money re-piping my basement to lift the drain pipe higher and straighten out a few other turns my old pipes were making. The first load in the new configuration was fine; the next 2 loads leaked out the pipe again! I did notice that if I used the heavy duty or bulky item cycle and warm/hot water, I did not see any foaming or leak. The next several loads I did were fine, but I expect it will happen again. I wondered if it was the Eco Cycle that was the problem for me. Frustrating to say the least. I will try your vinegar tip! And I use very very little detergent, like the size of a dime. Thank you!
You're welcome Kate. I'm glad this is helping so many people. On mine: It's the High Speed Spin that is the primary factor causing the foam. However, I like the High Speed Spin because of how much more it wrings out/dries the clothes. I believe I mention the different spin cycles in the video.
There’s absolutely nothing better than this machine that will wash with no BS sensors and fake agitators. Put a seal around the top of the pipe if it’s that big of a worry.
@@Goldenwoodz you won't be saying that when it starts foaming out so much it ruins your wall. A $1400 washer shouldn't do this. I regret buying mine every day
Thank you. We just got our SQ washer and dryer and today I saw the dreaded standpipe foam. I’ve been experimenting with using Tide Pod detergent to keep it simple for the kids as they do their own laundry. I do use vinegar but in the rinse cycle using the fabric softener dispenser. I’ll have to see if I can get them to use the vinegar but it may be too much for them … haha. Another product you might consider trying out when you have the time is Ahhsome (yes, it’s spelled that way) Washing machine cleaner. It’s a product that was developed for hot tubs to remove bacterial biofilms in the plumbing. It’s also good at completely cleaning out soap scum and slime films from washers and dishwashers. I’m going to run some through my SQ now to see if it helps reduce foaming. I do agree that these SQ machines are AMAZINGLY POWERFUL. They are definitely built for longevity and high use. My precious top loader was your typical consumer machine that was all fancy digital controls and looked like a work of art rather than an appliance. It gave me 10 years with one bearing change at 5 years but that essentially cost me 75% of what a new machine would. So I decided when it was dead my next machine was going to be a Speed Queen. I’m done with “fancy” and want only what “works” … and doesn’t cost a fortune to repair.
FYI I just got a new speed queen a couple weeks ago and a new house as well. This house was gutted and renovated down to the masonry. Even with brand new plumbing and the sudd thing happened to me too. I am going to try this vinegar method however I found a thread before coming here. When I googled fixing suds from a standing pipe from a new washer a plethora of people have this issue and not just with Speed Queen. It’s all of the brands. The original threads dated 2016-2017 I found, everyone thought it was Amana then Whirlpool and then it went on… Old pipes, new pipes, little soap, you name it. This one lady on one thread said she used a 4 inch paint roller in the standing pipe and put the hose to the washer back in and all resolved. Then someone else chimed in and said they did her method and it worked for them too. I haven’t figured out quite how that works yet because I don’t have a paint roller. The person that said they also got success from the paint roller idea said they heard a compression fitting can work too but they liked the paint roller idea and being that it worked they went no further. I also think those with a laundry basin won’t have this issue being that all the extra suds go into the basin. Come to think of it, my mom’s basin does fill with more suds over the years than it used too. Hope this info helps anyone here or for future comments that come through. It definitely is not the washer brand. I am leaning towards the way soap is made ( I use all natural cruelty free) and how it responds to washers. Speed Queen is one that hasn’t changed because how they been building them still outlives all the other competition. My mom has had her Speed Queen for 17yrs and the model before that was an OG Speed Queen too, and not one issue. Thank you for the vinegar tip, I am going down to add that to my next load!
Hello. Thank you for the additional information. I'm going to assume that the paint roller method completely seals the drain pipe to the drain hose. The problem is: We can't completely seal the gap between the washer's drain hose and the drain pipe. The house plumbing needs the air inside that drain pipe to form an air gap. If we sealed those pipes together: We run the risk of creating a back siphon. That could cause sewer water from your house plumbing to flow backwards, into your washer, and onto your floor. @@rickstid-bitsHey Rick. Thanks for the share! Like I mentioned in my comment, I didn’t get to try the paint roller thing yet because it’s so new/recent. But the comments from the person who first initiated the paint roller method and the other person that tried it and worked said it was a nice snug fit and when it worked they didn’t need to go any further. I am just noticing from all the googling, youtube, research, that it’s very common across the board. I came up with the conclusion about the detergents changing and not the washers because I noticed there are more suds in my mom’s laundry tub/basin over the years than normal that I have seen and we use the same detergent for years. Hence why I can say, the method of the vinegar from this video did the trick. No more suds overflowing. While I have used vinegar from time to time prior to the new house/washing machine, I am just not a fan of it canceling out the nice smell of my detergent. But if it helps with the suds issue then it’s fine. My clothes are super clean and just smell like clothes lol
The Speed Queen really whips the detergent into a froth, so I only use a drizzle, like an eye dropper full. I have used vinegar instead of fabric softener. I’ll try adding it to the wash cycle. Towels hold a lot of detergent and don’t get rinsed well enough. It seems disingenuous, but because they’re probably full of detergent from previous washes, try using minimal detergent.
Agree. I do not use fabric softener because I hate the smells, even on "no fragrance" ones. But most people don't realize their clothes are rough because they are full of residual detergent that was not rinsed out. Use less detergent. spot clean what needs it before putting in machine.
Very helpful, thank you! I didn’t realize this was a thing, I thought it was just me. Something that others experiencing the same thing might want to watch out for - I looked in the drain pipe and saw mold growing, probably from all the moisture of the repeated foaming and also the paper towels I stuck around the drain pipe trying to contain all the foam.
Hi Allison. Manufacturers have to meet the new Federal Water Usage requirements created years ago. They have to show their products can meet the "must use less water" rules. If they don't - they can't sell the product. That is why the Eco Cycle is there. I'm just very glad this model gives us the choice to use the amount of water we see fit by giving us the other cycles (with a true Rinse Cycle), and more importantly for me, the deep fill option that fills-up the tub. This was the only washer that gave me those options when I researched machines a few years ago. Rick
I wrapped a rag around the drain hose and stuffed it down into the standpipe, very carefully so as it would never fall in. And the vinegar is completely harmless to your clothing and machine as well.

That was very informative. We bought this machine as I am recovering from mold exposure. We've only had our machine a couple of weeks, and we are having the same problem with bubbles just as you described. This is very concerning to me because now the sheetrock is wet where it spilled over, and the machine is so heavy I can't move it to clean up all the water. The company where we bought it deliverd it and set it up, so hopefully it was installed correctly. We will try your suggestions and see if that fixes our problem. Thank you so much, and may God bless you.

Firstly, thanks so much for posting this video. I had the same issues with the speed queen we had in a house we recently purchased and if nothing else this feels like a support group. While I tried all of the recommendations and had little success I wanted to share that I did have success using 7th Generation detergent and fabric softener. I added the softener to the dispenser before running a load. Just up to the first line. And add a few ounces of the detergent to the running water after mostly full. All on the normal/eco cycle. Three cycles so far and no suds. Might just be that 7th generation doesn’t make as many suds? Regardless of why, it has worked for me if you want to give it a shot.

I talked to Speed Queen and mentioned this problem with suds coming out the drain, apparently using too much detergent will cause this problem. I was advised that about 1/3 cup of detergent is all that is needed to get clothing clean. The modern detergents are concentrated so not as much is needed, they did advise that by using a small amount of vinegar it would take care of the suds problem. Speed queen advised me to wash a load using NO soap and let it run the whole cycle, at which time I would see all the residual soap that was built up in the clothing ?? so I guess less is better. Just bought a TC5003 today and can't wait until its delivered. Great video and the heads up to this problem.
Hi Richard. Thank you for the kind words. Speed Queen also told me to run a cycle on Hot, no soap, with a cup of vinegar. They told me it would flush out any residual soap build-up in the machine and the drain line. That helped for the next 2 loads. Then, we were back to the same issue. Please send me an update after you've had you new machine for awhile.
I have the same washer that I bought last year and the same problem. I didn't have this issue with my old Maytag set. I got so mad that I stopped using it for six months. (BTW, I just figured out that Warm and Hot water doesn't work with the Normal Eco cycle.) The repairman came out twice and said it was all hooked up just fine, but it foams and overflows, so I cannot use the deep fil and can barely use any soap. I think it's ridiculous that I would have to use vinegar with this new washer but if that helps, I may have no choice. Thank you for sharing what you found!
Hi Teresa. I suggest you do what Speed Queen suggested first: Put 1 cup vinegar, 1 Tablespoon Dawn, in a full fill, hot water, Heavy Duty cycle. That will clean out any old soap residue. Then, try the 1 ounce vinegar every time from there. Also, I'm curious if it needs a little more than 1 ounce every time for others. Please come back and let me know how it goes. Rick
We had the same thing with the very first wash and all others after no matter how much or little soap , even tried numerous detergents, nothing made a difference. Repair man couldn’t figure out what the issue was . I refused to clean up soap suds foam each time and I threw a fit to owner of the appliance shop and he took it back and we chose another washer and no issues at all with it,
I spoke with Speed Queen last Friday. 5/24/24. They sent me an email on a fix. They are telling me it’s a build up of soap on the drain wall. I tried the vinegar with no luck. Their next option was to use fabric softener, which I normally do not do. But I was willing to try anything at this point. My machine is only 1 year old. It’s been going on long enough that my floor linoleum has separated where it was glued together under the washer. I just did not discover it until 3 weeks ago. To my SURPRISE the fabric softener worked. I am still going to run 2 cups of vinegar through my machine with HOT water once a month as the tech said this is just good maintenance for washer. When using the perm press or delicate cycle I am having no issues due to the LOW spin cycle I am sure. Hope this helps some of you!

Thanks so much for the answer direct from the ppl who know. I’ve just noticed this problem. I’ve been seeing a little water on the floor with no idea where it came from until I watched a cycle all the way through. I hadn’t seen the foam with our old garbage washer (that died at five years old) and figured it had something to do with Speed Queen being a commercial washer-strong spin, etc. I’m willing to change my practices for a good, durable machine, so I’ll follow this advice.

Hi Joanne, I find mine will move every time I have a very small load in it. Everything goes to one side and creates an off balance. I have to be mind full of that, and open the lid and redistribute the load around the tub before it goes into a spin. 🙁
I sure hope this will work. Had my washer for years with no problems. Now in a different house, it is doing this. I see no foam in the machine, but only upon the last spin like you say. I also notice there is more air in our water here?? I have also read softener will work, but it splatters all over my clothes. Thanks.
I, too, have a Speed Queen that I bought in 2013 (AWN432S), used for 5 years with no problems at all. Then I moved, and the new house came with a Maytag washer. I used that one until last week when it blew a control board, but I had brought my Speed Queen with me, so I swapped it in and I've started using it again. Yesterday I noticed foam for the first time, and a small puddle on the floor of the garage behind the washer. I've been doing a lot of laundry (multiple loads daily, my dad has dementia). I'm wondering if it was the load with the towels that did it -- I've noticed with the Maytag that towels and cotton bath rugs don't always seem to rinse all of the detergent out. I hate the feel of detergent on my skin and always use the extra rinse, and I'm always chastising my husband for using too much detergent. He also did a couple of loads on Sunday, but I didn't notice anything on Monday. I don't have the standpipe adapter in place, I don't think the installer put one in at the old house. For now, I've put a basin on the floor to make it easier to see if it happens again, and to help quantify how much is coming out.
Maybe we should get a class action lawsuit together on this. They should engineer a fix and send somebody out to make the repair. Could be a simple as a lower volume pump or a pump that only runs when there is water present. Maybe simple timer that shuts the pump off at a certain point. Absolutely ridiculous to have to try to figure out how to make it work without ruining your house.
THANK YOU FOR SHARING 👏👏👏 GROWING-UP I SAW THIS HAPPEN, IT WAS NO BIG ISSUE ✔️ I AM INVESTING IN THE CLASSIC: SPEED QUEEN WASHER & DRYER IDENTICAL TO YOUR SET 👍👍 SO I AM READING EVERYTHING FROM OWNERS LIKE YOURSELF ✔️ AGAIN THANK YOU, YOU GAVE “WISE-INFORMATION” ❗️
Awesome video! Thanks! I’ve had the same Speed Queen washer since May and today is the first time I’ve seen it produce Suds at the drain pipe. I did a small load, with a Tide soap pods, on the Normal / Eco cycle. I think that may have been the issue. I will try your recommendation of the white vinegar. Thanks again. Your review was very thorough and will be helpful to many people. Great job!

I have cleaned my machine and am using 1/2 tablespoon of Persil sensitive detergent and am still getting bubbles/water coming above the black adapter that goes in the standpipe. I don't know what kind of detergent to use and I am so frustrated. I use vinegar with every cycle.

Thank you so much Rick for all your information and suggestions. Having the same issue with my TC5003WN recently purchased. Will try all your suggestions. Wondering if anyone is having this problem with the TR series? Have been told by speed queen its a gentler less aggressive machine and shouldn't have this issue. I do have the option of switching so asking........
Hi Nancy, You're welcome. I don't know if the TR series have this problem. I know I wasn't interested in the TR models because they don't have an agitator. I'm old school - and want a machine with that aggressive agitator to force the clothes through the water to clean them. Please let me know what you find. Rick
@@rickstid-bits Thanks. If I decide to switch I'll let you know. I do know 1 person that purchased a TR series about 4 years ago and utilizes a drainpipe not a sink (says it cleans better then any machine she has ever had) and never had a problem. I do believe you are correct that air is pushing up bubbles at the last few minutes of cycle. I suggested to speed queen they may want to look into this and come up with a fix (with which the proper engineers could do) but both agents I spoke to insist there is NO problem.
I switched to the TR model washing machine and love it. No suds on any cycle . Don’t need to use vinegar and can use any HE detergent. For me, great decision 🤗
You have literally answered my prayers! Exact problem I’ve been having.

Hi Kent. Nice! I like it. As long as it's breathable - like you said. Thank you for adding this info.

Thank you Bill.
I am planning to purchase this w/d set soon and your information is very helpful and logical. Thanks for the heads up!

We had this same issue. We were using liquid detergent and it was causing foam bubbles. We started using pods and it fixed the problem. Have used all the different options & cycles and no more issues since using pods.
Hi Jason. That's good to know. Thank you for adding this. Rick

Thanks as I felt the liquid detergent was the problem.
Thank you!!!! I had no idea what was happening with my machine and this was so helpful!

Ok Rick. You are my hero today! 😂 My washer ALSO does this. I just order the lint trap cover for the dryer you mentioned now I am watching your fix for the washer. You are so thorough in your videos!! Thank you!
You're welcome. Thank you for the kind words. Rick
OMG, so happy to find this video as we just recently been having the same problem with our SQ TC5,. We have been using the Normal/Eco mode most of the time and after watching this, we switched to Permanent press - and guess what, no foaming issue! Again, thanks for the great info and solution. It really helped us!
Hello. You're welcome. Thank you for letting me know it helped you. Rick
This vinegar trick absolutely works, 100% of the time. 2 oz in the wash. Works like a dream.
Hi Jenn. I'm glad it helps. Thank you for letting me know.
Did you find an answer to this
Thank you Rick for taking the time to explain this.
You're welcome. Please let me know how it goes. Rick

@@rickstid-bits Discovered that even adding more than a cup of vinegar, it still foamed on Eco setting, although considerably less.. But it doesn't foam on Permanent Press, as you mentioned.
I thought Permanent Press was Deep Fill only. Is that incorrect? Because the Deep Fill light wasn't on when i ran a Permanent Press cycle. So far, that seems like the best normal setting for my TC5.

So will also buy HE detergent and not use pods.

NO BUBBLES. THANK YOU!
You're welcome Richard. Thank you for adding your comments. I think of ways to fix quite a few issues like this so, look over my RUclips channel for more.

Has the permanent press worked for you ??
Thanks Rick, we will try!

For you:
Please do my Step #1 (Full Flush).

Click on the word MORE in my description to see more info there. I have how to do the flush in there.

I have this exact washer and never had any issues but I do not have a stand pipe drain; rather mine drains into the utility sink next to the washer.
Hello. Thank you for adding your experience. You have a unique set-up, and I'm curious: Do you ever see bubbles leaving the washer's drain hose or lying in the sink immediately after a wash? Rick
Great post! Thank you for sharing. We have the same Speed Queen washer / issue, and will try this fix. Thanks again!
There are many people with this model machine having this issue. It really should be recalled especially since Speed Queen knows about it.
@@donna8826 I’ve had my machine since 2011. I’ve seen suds and been concerned, but they haven’t overflowed and flooded.
Hi Jeanne, You're welcome. Thank you for leaving a comment for me. Let me know how it works for you. Rick
NO FOAM OR WATER also, the 14 minutes is from when the tub starts to fill with water. good luck
Hi Donald, I'm glad that's working for you. Thank you for adding that information.

I tried this, and it works GREAT !
Thanks!
You're welcome. Thank you for coming back and letting me know. Rick
Thank you so much!!! We were struggling with this exact same problem!
You're welcome.
Not a cure, just a patch. Was going tomorrow to buy this same machine. Glad I watched this. Will buy a different brand.
Excellent machine and worth the money.
I regret buying mine every day
God idea. This thing is JUNK

Hi Matthew. Thank you for adding your experience and information to this topic. I will look into that product you recommend. Rick
Thanks will try this....
I had the same problem with my sq tc5. All l had to do to fix it was move the drain hose out of the stand pipe some.

You're welcome Sarah.
Very helpful! Having a slightly different issue but appreciate all the detail on the settings.
Thank you Michelle.
So if it isn’t a true rinse cycle then why even use the Eco cycle? Thanks so much for this video. Same problem here
Ah good idea. I didn't think of that. Did the rag work? Do you have to change it out after a while?
@@TheBigExclusive works fine. It's been 2 years, never changed it.
Thanks Rick. Do I add the vinegar with the soap? The manual says to put soap in first before the clothes. Thank you!

You’re welcome.

I refused to clean up soap suds foam each time and I threw a fit to owner of the appliance shop and he took it back and we chose another washer and no issues at all with it,
Thanks for the hot water Normal Eco cycle info I thought something was wrong with my water heater.
Tried the vinegar and it didn't help.

Mine is doing the same thing! And my Speed queen is traveling.
My Speed Queen is so much better than my former washer that died at 5 years old. I’m ok with a little process/maintenance change.

I did a small load, with a Tide soap pods, on the Normal / Eco cycle. I think that may have been the issue. I will try your recommendation of the white vinegar. Thanks again. Your review was very thorough and will be helpful to many people. Great job!
Thank you for the kind words. That is the whole reason I do most of my videos - to help other people.
Good luck with your washer as ours never stopped with the soap issue no matter which detergent or how much or little I used .
SUDS IS A CHEMICAL ADDED TO DETERGENT THAT IS ABSOLUTELY NOT NEEDED, BUT WOMEN IN THE 30’s WANTED TO SEE SUDS, THINKING THAT MEANT CLEANER CLOTHING, SO THE MANUFACTURERS ADDED THE CHEMICAL TO PRODUCE-SUDS…….BUD NOT-SO: SUDS DOES “”NOT-CLEAN”” CLOTHING AT ALL…..IT IS NOT-NEEDED❗️
BUT PEOPLE “FREAK-OUT” IF THEY DO NOT SEE SUDS ❗️
LOW OR NO-SUDS LIQUID LAUNDRY DETERGENT IS BEST ✔️
WHO HONESTLY WANTS SUDS DRIED
INTO THEIR CLOTHING…
@@lesleyvaleski5055 we have experienced the same problem. I personally think there is an issue with the design/programming that creates the issue.
Switch away from Normal Eco cycle, to something like Permanent press. That was the fix for us.
I have cleaned my machine and am using 1/2 tablespoon of Persil sensitive detergent and am still getting bubbles/water coming above the black adapter that goes in the standpipe. I don't know what kind of detergent to use and I am so frustrated. I use vinegar with every cycle.
Hi J, Please click on the word "more" at the end of my description. I have added a lot more information there. Please do the #1 Flush, and read about which Cycle not to use. Rick
Hi Nancy, That's great to know. Thank you for adding that information. Rick
