O M G! A garden, a practice net, a practice mat, a set of clubs, a bucket of balls, an array of launch monitors and it's sunny to top that off! Keep it up!
So in my experience in using both the Mevo and SC300 I would say the issue you are having is interference. The Mevo manual very specifically states that having electronics in front of it can cause interference so your skytrack is probably messing with it, especially the clubhead speed which on mine almost never misses now that I have it set up correctly. Also, if you don't have the silver dots on your balls, it loses accuracy because it doesn't get the spin numbers correctly. I have found that using a silver sharpie worked very well and the accuracy went way up. I found the SC300 to be wildly variable when testing on the range. I would hit a perfect 100 yard shot and it would report anything from 90-108 and rarely actually report 100 yards. Same with the 150, the variance was as much as +/- 15 yards off from reality. This was a good attempt but there are a many things you can do to make it cleaner and more useful. People are going to conclude that the SC300 is the way to go and after owning it and several others, I would say that is not at all the case.
yes, the setup of the mevo here isn't anything close to what's recommended in the manual; he's hitting into a net so he should probably choose an indoor setting and should be 6' back from the ball and as closely to aligned to the ball as possible on the z axis; the mevo has a plastic fixture on the top to facilitate this so presumably it has a bearing on accuracy. As you point out he's not using the metallic dot stickers which i believe impact on the accuracy on the spin and height metrics. By and large I've always found that the Mevo flightscope gives quite accurate distances for any club longer than a SW. It's only weak spot is that it doesn't give ball-flight metrics on the x axis (left/ right). This video is a great overview of the products' features and price but doesn't provide a like-for-like comparison terms of their accuracy. (BTW I will try your tip on the silver sharpie as an alternative for metallic stickers; initially Mevo said this wouldn't work so but they were working on it so I'll make sure i have the latest firmware)
I have a SkyTrak been getting a lot of use recently. One thing to note is club speed is a calculated value not measured. I took my SkyTrak to my Pro and compared it with a trackman. They were very similar for good strikes but club speed was way off on misstrikes. Better to look at ball speed as that is a measured value. Nice vid, I’ll stick with my SkyTrak 👍
Bought the PRGR this week based one your last video, I love it! Plug all the data into excel for analysis. Haven’t been allowed to take it to the range yet. Thanks for keeping the content coming during these crazy times.
This is interesting! I could easily build an application to display the data in a nice user interface instead of having to scroll through an excel file. I wonder if anyone has done something with that for the PRGR yet.
I'm glad that Skytrack exists at the price it does. Still not affordable for me, but it was only 6-7 years that to get something that would actually measure height of ball and spin would cost you well over 10k. I could actually save for a Skytrack!. I purchased an SC300 and put it up against a Trackman when I had a fitting at Club Champion two weeks ago. SC300 was right on the money with Trackman (minus a couple of smash factors). I live at about 125mph club head speed and I can tell you that SC300 is right on! Very happy with the purchase. Awesome video! Cool to see all the differences.
Immediately bought the PRGR after your first video on it. I love it, along with a few of your other vids it helped me find the techniques that best increased my swing speed (from 88 to 100 in two days!)
I have the PRGR…It’s absolutely spot on for the limited data it provides. Nothing fancy. Ball speed, swing speed, smash factor, carry distance, and total distance. I actually used it side by side during a recent club fitting that used a Trackman4. It was within acceptable tolerances for every shot, i.e., within 2% for all categories. Not bad for $200. But, it’s basic. No graphics, can’t download the data and plot it. You just use it in real time, or transfer the data manually into a spreadsheet of some sort. Big plus, it will measure swing speed for practice swings! I’d like a unit with club data as well, but haven’t found a reliable one yet that is sub $1,000.

I was leaning towards Mevo + (which isn’t reviewed here) but after seeing its little brother fail with swing speed I’m going with Skytrack, it is exclusively for my ‘winter’ third garage setup anyway. Thanks for putting this together!
I agree with a previous comment: all the doppler radars use the same frequency and the doppler frequency can interfere with each other. Apart from that, the Mevo is too expensive for what the sensor offer. The SC300 instead is very good piece of electronics (from an electronic engineer), hope one day to see also the horizontal trajectories on a future version of the SCxxx
Great review! Seems to me that we either gotta spend $20k or live without it. Thankfully more and more of these indoor studios seem to pop up, and I have seen high end simulators show up on driving ranges. Now we can just hope for prices to drop for high end machines in the future.
Just went in lock down in Pa. I found out when I was in hole 13. Go figure. Sky trak in the garage, short game area in the yard,up to 80 yards. Thanks for the short game tips, They came in handy today. Keep up the great work, see you on the other side of this mess. God bless
I know this video is a couple of years old, but I just bought a golf net for my backyard. I will only be practicing outside. Which would be your favorite for outside only? I'm not worried about cost so much, but I like the SkyTrak for it's ability to play other courses. But would you choose the SkyTrack over the SC300 for outdoor use only?
One thing that I have found with the SkyTrack is it is less accurate with the irons and driver with higher swing speeds. With most amateurs who have lower swing speeds, it picks up the ball spin, carry and speeds more accurately.
good effort...but... 3 radar based units side-by-side can interfere and give weird numbers for sure... on the other hand it's difficult to compare them in any other setup. Skytrack in direct sunlight can cause some troubles too. Maybe radar units in one-by-one average shots would get more reliable data? Anyway... nice job!
Something that would help your swing and contact tremendously is to keep the flex in your right knee as go through your swing. You have a tendency to straighten it in the backswing, which is a death move. Good Luck!
Hey Matt, hitting irons into a net doesn't work well for doppler. They need to track the ball in the sky. All of the doppler systems will be way more accurate at the range.
You need to try the Rapsodo personal launch monitor once the new software update comes out. I’ve had it since it came out and use it at my range. Uses your phone to capture video and gives you shot tracer among a ton of other stats. . Doppler style so no ball spin. I’ve used it at my range along with top tracer which is installed there and numbers are very close. It’s missing indoor/hitting into net capabilities but Rapsodo told me the other day that it’s coming out very soon in an update.
Thanks for the good video. It shows that these things can only be used for fun. No idea of the accuracy for any of them. I've used three different devices to gap my clubs, but none of them gave me anything that I could transfer to the course! But love looking at numbers. Should have been an accountant!
Nice comparison. It’s too bad there is no way to calibrate these devices. They are fun but I’m not so sure bout the trust you can put in these. For outside the sky caddie seems the winner. Inside I agree skytrak. Can you enter actual lofts of irons? With all the stronger lofted irons out there, wouldn’t it fool the monitors?
I have a SC200, and recently got the PRGR via Mr ShortGames link. I was never impressed with the SC200, many times the info doesn't seem accurate(or even close). The PRGR seems much closer to reality with its readings. The SC200 was so bad right out of the box that it keeps me from upgrading to the SC300.
Hard to give you a thumbs up on this one sir. I appreciate the effort in these time of being stuck at home but you have to do a much better job getting these things set up so they work accurately.
@@saltypatriot1768 PRGR ones only do estimate carry distance from ball speed and clubhead speed though so the numbers you'll get are almost always the best case scenario so don't get carried away too much. Club speed numbers compared to Skytrak tend to be on a more conservative side 4-5 mph less on PRGR. So when I eventually get to do club fitting on trackman then I might get extra clubhead speed.
I would suggest that you do the same test in a range where you can actually see the real ball flight and distance. You then won’t be guessing which tracker is right or wrong... and you don’t need a Trackman for that.
Great video! After watching your review of the SC200 I purchased one last year and enjoyed experimenting with it. But it’s an old/outdated device and I’m looking to upgrade. Thanks for the selection in this video. I think my final analysis is to upgrade to the SC300, but damn......$400.....not yet. Although they do offer a feature that provides a download of swings.....great for analyzation. But thank you for including the PRGR!
@@petergoguen4421 There is a probability. it is not 100% sure because the VCO frequency can be slightly different on each device and in this case there is no interference
Could some of the Doppler-based units interfere with one another? Just wondering. Would love to see a range finder-verified comparison of the portable monitors.
Quick warning to anybody trying to use SkyTrak outdoors in Nevada, Arizona, etc. I found that in the noon sun during the summer it was too bright for the unit to consistently pick up the swing, and once it goes over 100 in the shade I found my iPad overheating within 10 to 15 minutes, thus loosing the ability to use the unit.
Mevo + is out, couple of reviews out there with very promising results. Looking forward to your review on it. Skytrak numbers are irrelevant outdoors especially in that sunlight 👍
SkyTrak tends to have lower carry numbers. I’ve noticed this at home. Thinking about taking mine out to an empty field to double check distances. The longer the club, the bigger the carry distance issue
Thx for share that opinion want buy the Skytrak but still confuse for the software how to set up and compare with the IOS and PC which one is better? more stable and check data more easy and play the simulator course on the projector and white screen .any recommend for that^____^
I have a SkyTrak and really enjoy it. I'm curious your opinion of the Mevo+ once you get your hands on one. Looks like a really nice unit and is a bit more feature rich than the SkyTrak for basically the same money.
I've got on on order (I own a Mevo) from Rain or shine golf. After talking to them a length, they say it is a game changer and is best in class at that price point as long as you have 16' of space (6'-7' behind the ball and 8'-9' for the ball to fly. I guess we will see.
Mevo has to be set up very precisely to give accurate numbers. It looks like your Mevo is offset a little to much. You also need to use the dots for spin and speed accuracy.
I'll never get tired of telling people to avoid the Swing Caddie. I bought the SC300 (retail over $500) and liked it...until it fell out of my golf bag and the screen was cracked. Unreadable. I called support for Voice Caddie/Swing Caddie to find out how to get it fixed. They said, "we don't do that." I said, "ok, who does?" They said, "no one." I was confused. I said, "I'm not trying to get it done for free. I'm willing to pay." They said, "we don't care. We won't fix the screen." Then - get this - they said, "you could buy another one..." I thought maybe there was wax in my ear or something. Again, they said, "you could buy another one." I'm 71 years old. I've had computers and other tech equipment since the 1960's. Dozens of computers, cell phones, audio equipment, TVs, DVD players and on and on. I even had a laserdisc player. I have NEVER been told "you can buy another one" by ANYONE. Even given the WORST JUNK that I ever bought, NO ONE from any company EVER said "you can buy another one" rather than even TRYING to satisfy a customer who laid out over $500 in good faith. Obviously, I wasn't going to do what they suggested, so I went out and bought a Mevo - also around $500 and basically, you could put it on a tee and hit it with your driver and it would be fine - no need to buy another one. I've been so pleased with the Mevo, that I orders a Mevo+ - retail around $2,000. That's $2000 that Swing Caddie will not get from me.
One alternative Simulation is Not to "Simulate" ie. Use the old "Bush telegraph Method ..." Set the [Simulator] up physically on one hole (even a Par 3) then Number Every ball either by Code or independent number {M1, M2, M3; Sc1, Sc2, Sc3...} or {1,2,3,4,5,...} Then perform the tests .... ... then Plunder the Bush Physically by Walking to each ball with say a Garmin Approach G7 [or other device] set to "Measure Shot" mode... That way you'll get Real Time data which should be consistent (Ball type, Atmostpheric Conditions, Wind etc) ** Also remember that most of these devices have an Altitude Setting which should be set the same elevation for all the devices
I bought the PRGR and I like it a lot, but it's not at all accurate without a ball. I'm a senior and with a ball, the PRGR says my swing speed is between 82 and 85, and since I've recently been fitted for a new driver with a trackman I know that's accurate. Without a ball, the PRGR says my swing speed is between 50 and 60, which is ridiculous.
I have the SC300 and have been having problems with it not recording which is very frustrating when it doesn't record 3-5 shots in a row. I'm not sure what the problem is.
@@lakedog3616 hi I sold it last summer As it i found it a little boring I would love to see a ball shape from the shot But at £450.00 you cant have it all
I would say that total distance is useless because of the variables after the ball lands from the carry distance. Have you or anyone you know used a laser range finder to validate the yardage accuracies? I bought the SC300 but haven't had a chance to use it on the range (recovering form minor surgery). The major drawback of the SC300 app[ is you need to have internet and bluetooth enabled to bring the app up on your smart phone or ipad. There's no need for me to have internet connected. I think they're trackiong the users of the SC300.
Don't buy based on this review, his methodology was very flawed. So many things wrong with the way he did that it is hard to list. The Mevo doesn't like other electronic around it, it says so right in the manual, I'm assuming the others are similar. He didn't use the silver dots to get accurate spin numbers, he didn't have the Mevo pointed in the right direction. Etc. I'm assuming there were things that weren't right with the other devices either. I've owned the SC200 and SC300 and they were both very inaccurate. The Mevo takes a bit a learning to set it up right, but once done, it is very, very spot on.
i found it interesting that you had very little issue with skytrak outside, especially in the sun. i want to get something for outside use only and basically am looking at skytrak vs mevo plus. for my scenario, skytrak would be great if i could get results like you just had in this video. have you found the sky trak works consistantly outside?
@@lakedog3616 I really like it! I understand that it's not as accurate as some of the higher priced ones but it gives you a good general idea on how far your ball is going. I played many rounds of virtual golf with my son with it. Again it only gives distances and doesn't tell if you slice it into the woods! Still fun though. We have played these rounds to scout out courses to get a general layout. I've used it many times as a on course GPS and keep score on it as well. So for these many uses it was definitely worth the money!
I currently have a SkyTrak. It is not perfect by no means. I feel it exaggerates hook/slice or over reads side spin. Recently mine has been getting some weird readings like 8 iron at 99mph and 11,000 back spin. Wouldn't that be fun to see in real life. I also has the SC200. It was very inaccurate for me and I made Voice Caddie aware of it so they had me reset it and even sent me a replacement. Now the replacement gives me shot data without even having a ball. So I am skeptical of the radar type. If you have more info on the WGT package for SkyTrak that you have I am extremely interested. I was looking at the E6 Connect but the price is a bit much for me.
To use WGT you need a decent ipad, plus $200 annually for Skytraks top plan (game improvement). I did this for a year. WGT positive is it has nice graphics and some awesome courses (pebble beach, St Andrews, Pinehurst, Bethpage black, Merion, Olympic Club, Congressional, Chambers Bay, Erin Hills, etc). It was an ipad app converted for Skytrak so it can be a little glitchy. Occasionally will be in a bunker and near impossible to get out. Strange camera angles at time where view is not behind the ball. Also only one player at a time. If you plan to use with friends that is a big negative. I really enjoyed it as an entry into sim golf. I just upgraded to e6 connect. You can run it on a newer ipad, but I got a gaming laptop for $600 (needs a good graphics card--see skytrak website for required specs) as it runs better on PC. Skytrak offers an annual fee of $300 for e6 connect basic (27 courses +12 rotating courses annually) plus the mid tier $100 skytrak fee (play and improve). It is so much better than WGT as it was made for sim golf, you can play up to 8 players at a time, from different tees, can change green speed, play match, stroke, scramble, stableford. If you already have an ipad then try out WGT for $200 a year. If you don't have an ipad, I would pay a little extra and go e6 connect route. The pricing for e6 connect for Skytrak is unique in that they offer the annual fee, whereas many other launch monitors only offer the one time $2500 fee
Seems most comments are just mevo supporters complaining the set-up wasn't perfect. The set-up wasn't perfect for any of them and there was most likely interference for all of them, the fact is they all had the same shot to read and the results are what they are. The only way to truly test them fairly would be one at a time, the correct distance behind the ball and having somebody stand where the ball lands then using a rangefinder, which is much more accurate, and comparing that to each monitor.
Had a look at the mevo & sc300 but bought the PRGR for less than half the price. I tried it at the range and it is VERY accurate. I got all of my clubs dialled in for distance in no time.
God bless
I was looking at getting the sky trak but there’s very little reviews on it so cheers for this.
Eric Maher I borrow my coach’s SkyTrak. It’s awesome. Just a touch too expensive.
Paul Leroux mevo seems to be getting better reviews now. Especially the iOS adaption
Anyway... nice job!
your Mevo was too close to the ball. I keep my Mevo at least 6ft behind the ball. it picks my swing speed up with no problem.
Strongly considering buying this. How has yours been?
Something that would help your swing and contact tremendously is to keep the flex in your right knee as go through your swing. You have a tendency to straighten it in the backswing, which is a death move. Good Luck!
Yo this video was sick. Good Job
Hey Matt, hitting irons into a net doesn't work well for doppler. They need to track the ball in the sky. All of the doppler systems will be way more accurate at the range.
They don’t track very far out. Indoors is ok. His net is fine.
Thank you for your video. Looking forward to your review of the new Mevo plus 👍
That PRGR is awesome!
Finally something that I can afford from their brand and their clubs are great as well it just too expensive for me.
Yes have one on the way..and I can get club head speed inside hitting plastic ball
Thanks for posting. A big help
Thats a good review. Real honest.
Having all of them right next to each other might have interfered with the technology. Great video tho
Yep, in fact the Mevo manual very specifically says not to do what he did.
I wondered the same thing...all those dopler waves. Anyone know if this would be a problem?
@@petergoguen4421 There is a probability. it is not 100% sure because the VCO frequency can be slightly different on each device and in this case there is no interference
Could some of the Doppler-based units interfere with one another? Just wondering. Would love to see a range finder-verified comparison of the portable monitors.
Yep, they most certainly interfered with each other.
Absolutely, The manuals even state this.
Stephen Rose nah Mr Shortgame does never read manuals haha;)
Quick warning to anybody trying to use SkyTrak outdoors in Nevada, Arizona, etc. I found that in the noon sun during the summer it was too bright for the unit to consistently pick up the swing, and once it goes over 100 in the shade I found my iPad overheating within 10 to 15 minutes, thus loosing the ability to use the unit.
What features does mevo lack that you didn’t like? I just ordered one and I value your opinion.
Mevo + is out, couple of reviews out there with very promising results. Looking forward to your review on it. Skytrak numbers are irrelevant outdoors especially in that sunlight 👍
I have the SkyTrk. I have found that using it without the cover gives you much better results.
Matt, have you tested any of these on the range or course for accuracy? Do you have a strong opinion on which one was most accurate?
SkyTrak tends to have lower carry numbers. I’ve noticed this at home. Thinking about taking mine out to an empty field to double check distances. The longer the club, the bigger the carry distance issue
I have the prgr its amazing in the directions the distance technically wants it 3 and a half to 5 feet away
Great video mr short game!!!very informative!!!stay safe🤙🏽
Thx for share that opinion want buy the Skytrak but still confuse for the software how to set up and compare with the IOS and PC which one is better? more stable and check data more easy and play the simulator course on the projector and white screen .any recommend for that^____^
My Skytrak read short until I entered the correct elevation and temperature (under Session Settings). Might help, can't hurt.
I am looking to dial in distances on pitch shots between 40 and 100 yards. Do you think PRGR will be accurate for this?
Exactly the information I need right now! Great timing!
May i ask, do you have to lift up the ST when hitting the Driver for accurate result?
Thanks for the videos! Helped me decide. Went with the sc300, found it new for $300 which helped my decision also! Coming in the mail today!
wow, that's a good price for that piece. i'd buy it for that price too!
That is a fantastic price!
Where did you find it for 300?
Can these things make allowance for good quality balls as opposed to range balls or is it just related to the speed of the clubhead
Thanks it did help I’m going with sc300
What do you think of the new Earnest Sports B 1 launch monitor????Thanks...Ali
I think you should try to get a Mevo plus to add to this comparison. Comparable to the skytrack
Thanks for video, I have a skytrack and enjoy the heck out of it, but realize it's not 100 percent but easily in the 90 percent accurate.
Mevo has to be set up very precisely to give accurate numbers. It looks like your Mevo is offset a little to much. You also need to use the dots for spin and speed accuracy.
Exactly. Once I got mine dialed it, it has been spot on.
One alternative Simulation is Not to "Simulate"
ie. Use the old "Bush telegraph Method ..."
Set the [Simulator] up physically on one hole (even a Par 3) then
Number Every ball either by Code or independent number {M1, M2, M3; Sc1, Sc2, Sc3...} or {1,2,3,4,5,...}
Then perform the tests ....
... then Plunder the Bush Physically by Walking to each ball with say a Garmin Approach G7 [or other device] set to "Measure Shot" mode...
That way you'll get Real Time data which should be consistent (Ball type, Atmostpheric Conditions, Wind etc)
** Also remember that most of these devices have an Altitude Setting which should be set the same elevation for all the devices
Been looking for a comparison like this!
Will the PRGR track if hitting into a net?
I think mevo has problems with other radar units in the area. Mevo plus?
while lockdown still on progress, can i use this devise for target 5, 10, 15, 20 until 50 yard in my backyard, but i prefer garmin approch s80 TQ
The Swing Caddie SC300 supports target practice for distance.
That set up is nice , great job
I have the SC300 and have been having problems with it not recording which is very frustrating when it doesn't record 3-5 shots in a row. I'm not sure what the problem is.
LOVE MY SKYTRAK
I have a skytrak and love it. I just wish I had room to keep it set up 24/7
It will def6help your game if you put in the time with it
Still very much enjoy your golf videos … and nice to see you back at the home course
Any recommendations on a launch monitor for hitting into a net outdoors. My net is only 7’ tall and 10’ wide. I would only be about 7’-10’ away.
I’m definitely getting the swing caddie as high as it reads lol.
I wonder how the SC300 compares to the Rapsodo? Can you do a video in this down time? Thanks!
I have the sc300 was waiting to see if it works when hitting in the net.
Now i know
That's me sorted for the next 11 weeks
Stay safe bro
Have you been happy with the sc300 ?
@@lakedog3616 hi
I sold it last summer
As it i found it a little boring
I would love to see a ball shape from the shot
But at £450.00 you cant have it all
so the skytrak is the only one of that has the visual ballflight, right?
Mr. Short Game, do any these launch monitors give you swing path angle and club face angle (L/R in degrees)?
Hard to prove for accuracy when you can’t see the actual ball travel distance. But other wise, good video.
Thanks, I have the SC300 and generally like it but I get more shots not registering than I’d like
Can you use plastic golf balls for the sc300...for indoor use
I just started watching this video but just wanted to say thank you for this content, I needed this video to get my backyard setup! 🙌
Would love to see an update using your trackman inside.
Great vid! Will you be testing the Rapsodo launch monitor ??
I Don’t see many reviews on it.
I have been waiting for this video. It has helped me decide which one to go with.
SC300 or skytrack depending on yur budget.
After much research we bought the Garmin G80. Would love to hear your opinion on it. Great videos!
So after a year , what do you think of the G80 ?
@@lakedog3616 I really like it! I understand that it's not as accurate as some of the higher priced ones but it gives you a good general idea on how far your ball is going. I played many rounds of virtual golf with my son with it. Again it only gives distances and doesn't tell if you slice it into the woods! Still fun though. We have played these rounds to scout out courses to get a general layout. I've used it many times as a on course GPS and keep score on it as well. So for these many uses it was definitely worth the money!
@@a10boy thanks for replying.
What kind of protector is on your IPad?
curious if you ever figured out why the Mevo didn't pick up swing speed?
