PRGR is a Japanese golf club company owned by Yokohama Tire. They make awesome forged clubs some of which are forged at Miura. I have an old set of Data 601 irons that I love. If this swing data analyzer is as high quality as their irons, I'm all in for one of these. Great review!👍
I like that the PRGR captures my swing speed without a ball, and the carry distance is relatively accurate. Thanks for making my decision to purchase one much easier. #welldone 👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿🇯🇲
@@harrymckerihan665 I like it. It's not giving you ball spin, but carry, total yards, ball speed. I use it on the course more than the range. helped me figure out my 150 yard club really isn't my 7 iron but my 6.
I think it gives exact distance from the PRGR itself from however far behind it you place it. Most seemed to be off by 3 yards and that's how far back you hand PRGR on ground. That seems right on the money and seems more accurate than the $450 one.
Their manual mentioned a distance of 3.5 to 5 feet directly behind the club. It has to line up to where you aim as well or the readings won't be accurate.
Just got mine the other day. Tried it indoors (for golf), set up in the prescribed position using the included batteries (unit was displaying full battery). Tried 7 & 4 irons and got very low numbers. Changed to new batteries and took it to the range. Only had a handful of balls to hit, so used 7 iron only. Got results I'd consider much more realistic. Club speed mid to high 80's, ball speed around 115 and carry average high 160's. Indoors, I had to blister one to get a carry of 150 or more and swing & ball speeds were much lower also. I have yet to try it indoors again, but will soon. The difference is either the batteries, the setup or the indoor/outdoor factor. Regardless, I can't see why indoor/outdoor should be a factor on clubhead speed. My net was set up about 8 feet in front of the ball. I hope I don't need much more than that to get accurate readings. Any tips?
Thanks for showing these side by side! The nice things you get with the SC300 doppler monitor are a barometric pressure calibration, plus ball spin, ball speed, launch angle and club loft specifics (you specify lofts at set up) that factor into the data it reports. I don't think the PRGR doppler monitor measures/factors any of those variables...PRGR simply calculates an estimated carry/total distance from a static loft/launch/spin database average based on the club you enter (again, lofts are averaged here, not specific to your bag) on the two factors it does measure -- clubhead speed and ball speed (without a barometer (temperature/altitude)). The great advantage of the PRGR is that you don't have to hit a ball to get clubhead speed, so it's one of the best bang for the buck options for speedstick training feedback without a ball. I think the SC300 is much more accurate but it's best to use it on the course with a real ball vs beat up/limited flight range balls. PRGR is probably a little better on the range since its metrics are more static/averaged.
Does prgr work on practice net in my back yard? Love watching you play golfacholics, maybe you can play against others like Wesley and George Brain brothers. Thank You David Ortiz

I finally got my hands on one of these. I traded It for a rangefinder. So I roughly paid 100 dollars for it. It is amazing. So much fun, no phone needed, highly accurate. The only draw back is it won't pick up my Sandwedge and the woods is just a little off. I believe it maybe because it does not measure rpms, but I was impressed. Use a tri pod if you are having trouble getting readings, especially for a driver.
I'm about to get this along with an optishot 2 so I can start saving some money on going to the driving range, looks like this thing would be a worthy addition to it!
Man, I kinda like that PRGR, totally love Japanese clubs and of course this launch monitor. Instead of $105 for the radar one, I rather get this. Thanks MrShortGame! 👏 👍
Interesting product. I have struggled with a decision to buy one of these. I just don’t see a practical use. On the course I have several other indicators for distances including a range finder. On the range this doesn’t really help because I am using range balls, so distances are off from the premium ball I play. Can’t use it to hit into a net because the radar has to track the ball flight.... The price point is great, just can’t find a reason for it. Thanks for the review.
I notice people saying it won't pick up the lofted irons. The way to fix this is to use a small camera tripod stand. I use this sitting on the mini tripod and it picks up my 58 degree wedge without a problem.
A little incomplete. I would have tried to elevate the monitor a foot or two to see if it would pick up the wedges better. Since those are your scoring clubs, it would be critical to be able to dial in some in between yardages.
I’ve used the original red eyes a lot. They are good value for what you pay for. As with all launch monitors, you have to be proficient at reading mis reads as you are non mis reads.
Good review Matt. Thanks. Unfortunately the lack of data capture with wedges limits the usefulness of this thing, for me. Although, registering swing speed without a ball would be an added bonus for those doing swing speed training.
Just found your channel today and have to say it’s both informative AND entertaining- well done my friend. A little Fred Couples and Louis Oosthuizen in your swing too - at least the tempo, which is key right?!
I bought a different Japanese brand, very similar, except speed is in m/s and it's one where you have to have it a certain distance behind the ball. I got it for the distance because I upgraded my irons and wanted to find out how far they went. I like it, one time it had problems with my 60°, but other than that it's been good.
Numeric display devices have good uses for personal, non-commercial use. I've found the combination of numeric and a visual simulation of ball flight, particularly a group of shots for comparison, easier to 'digest' for me. A good demonstration of this device. BTW, how well does this unit perform within an indoors setting?
Great Video Mr.S/G, I saw in the comments the concerns about wedges, my guess is that when you mount the PRGR on a camera stand it performs even better and will pick up those higher lofted clubs...right?
Just got the Japanese model HS-120 red body measures in Meters per second instead of MPH,pretty cool little device it does pick up speed and is pretty accurate and will give you more data for reference and gauging your game progress and just over a $100 I paid for it,it's a steal. Those PRGR demo guys can't be that naive, they don't know that they actually sold these elsewhere and told me "it's not for sale" I have to import the thing from Japan, you have one hell of a product but don't want to sell it here,I guess they're too focused on selling their new drivers.
Great video..nice little lauch launch motor..seem ok..now the question..compare to the swing caddie that you had there which one do you think is better..take cost right out of it..and please let me know which one do you think is better?
I usually love your content but i have to be critical with this one. First, Being accurate on carry distances will be player specific. It is not measuring launch and spin therefore it just uses a stock programmed number. Obviously different players launch and spin differently. Second this seems to be almost exactly like the sc100. Ball speed, swing speed and estimated carry. I just bought one brand new on rock bottom golf for 150 and it has a remote(which actually comes in handy). It also doesn't have problems picking up wedges. Id tske that all day long over this.
A more accurate test would be to hit balls with each unit individually, then compare numbers. There is likely some interference caused by having both units side by side and running at the same time.
How would that be more accurate? Without using the same ball and measuring from the same swing the results could never be comparable. I've hit range balls that fly anywhere from 100-250 yards from a driver due to how beat up they are. If you hit enough balls with the radars side by side, you'll see a trend forming that product 'a' is always 5 yards/ short or long; but it's consistantly 5 yards short/long. Consistancy is king, in golf.
@@anthonygovantes2456 The numbers from both monitors are suspect when they are side by side. There is definitely interference from the doppler radars on each unit when they are right next to each other and measuring at the same time.
Do you have a link for your range finder? If so, I'm not seeing it - thanks. And nice review! Both range and on the course is a great way to do it. Looks like a good, fairly affordable product.
Question for Mr Shortgame. Recently purchased the PRGR and seems to work well. My question is do you know what they have the lofts set at for the irons? I play an old set of blades and am afraid it will be giving me bad info based on newer iron lofts. Can’t seem to find this info anywhere. Thanks and love your videos!
@@bl6369 I actually just sold it on eBay. I think it has a hard time picking up the more lofted clubs like 8,9,wedges. I’m choosing to go with the arccos system because that will work better for me!
@@charlier3189 thanks buddy. I've done a lot of reviewing and it just seems to inconsistent. Who wants inconsistent data? That's probably even more harmful than no data. Also my driving range has a trackman setup and I'll just go there when I need numbers.
Great vid, Unfortunately I have not had much luck with any off the shelf launch monitor, I had the SC100 and the SC200 and both were total garbage 100 yd shot would show 80 one shot and 120 the next when both balls were 5' apart on the range. Over and over again, perhaps someone will come up with an accurate one but until then I will pay to hit where they uses GC quad or trackman to get my #s.
trpe71 If you haven’t tried the Mevo you might look into that unit. Swing speed is almost identical to Trackman and carry distance is MUCH more accurate than the SC100, Sc200 or SC300 (which are all so overinflated they are a joke). I don’t really trust spin or club head speed too much with the Mevo but in my opinion the best option of affordable launch monitors I’ve tried.
As if there isn't enough else to worry about in golf!! Now we add whether our launch monitor is calibrated properly or not. How did Jack Nicklaus ever play such good golf????
i found the iron setting s to be lower yardage , when using w1 setting iron yardages jump up to my normal yardages . have the launcher set at around 5 ft behind me
It looked like the display was showing carry distance, but you were measuring total distance of your shot. That would mean your carry distance was about 10 yards shorter. Did you actually measure carry distance when checking the actual distance?
No spin, no point. Also not sure if you're being very accurate. On the last one at the cart path for example said 260 and you called it on 270. The shot before it was 250. If you're saying this one is on the money, does it mean the swing caddie is not as good? You also have that a really good review, if I remeber correctly. Sure, it seems really good for swing speed, doesn't match the carry and is unreliable for about 30%. How about comparing to the more mobile swing caddie, I think its the 200? If also measures the same details, same size and similar price range.
@@Dr.Kim1979 I call em like I see em John. I know and I've met a lot of people in my profession, good and bad, so I would say that I'm a pretty good judge of character. I'm just doing my Civic Duty and calling this dishonest guy out.
Just received mine and am eager to test! Question (for anyone on this thread as well), did you you (or anyone else) equip it with a small camera tripod? Would this help with the SW+? I've seen images of people using it with a mini tripod.
I think for the price it's really not a bad little piece of tech. Seems to struggle with the hi lofted wedges as you predicted though. Really liking the Mevo + but at $2K it's a little bit more of an investment.
I just ordered a Mevo + yesterday (sadly it has a 4-6 week lead time right now though). I think even with the higher price the extra's it gives and accuracy are worth it. Really looking forward to the E6 ranges and courses that it comes with for free to practice at home. Will be great for helping develop my Son's swing without having to worry about pace of play on a golf course.
I take a look at it a few days ago, but the lack of design on his physical appearance may be a buying factor. As the SC200 that it seems to be a competitor struggle with chipping and pitching?, there is another cheap Japanese launch monitor that has an SD card and record statistics, something that for me seems really cool. mat t what would you pick under 200 bucks????
Ronald van Alphen I had a SC300. Compared it to trackman. Don’t trust any of the numbers except swing speed. Carry distance is a joke! Would also not trust spin numbers either.
I just purchased my PRGR and I received the newest model (HS-130a) vs. the one shown in this video (HS-120a). The HS-130a displays four data elements (club speed, ball speed, smash factor, carry or total distance). After a few sessions with the HS-130a I can say the radar looks to have been improved for lofted wedges. I haven’t had any misreads on my full wedge shots. The distance accuracy seems very good too. My main use is for over-speed training. No complaints on the launch data provided.
Thanks Matt. I’m thinking about ordering one through your link to help promote your channel because I get great golf tips; however, if there’s a warranty issues are return instructions included in shipment?
Thanks for the review. I am interested in your opinion on how important would knowing launch angle while trying to dial in your swing is. I have so many reviews and unless you spend over $10k the launch and some of the other advanced options are not that accurate. So if there are not that accurate does it definite you to see those numbers? Looking to make a purchase asap!
@@MrShortGame thanks for all the info you share. I really appreciate it. I ll be grabbing the PRGR and I ll defiantly use your link. I think the PRGR will be all I need hitting into a net.
@@MrShortGame I bought it and just returned it and of course I am out the shipping cost both ways. It is horrible( it was saying my 6I was going 130 I carry my 6I 190 yrds) hitting into net and hardly records wedge even in a open field. Out 30 shots with a 54 shots around 50 yards it recorded 4 distances and they were off 7-10 yards after shooting them with a laser.
Thanks for the video. I'm curious about your particular swing speeds. Are you using the same swing for all of the clubs, attributing the difference in speed to the difference in the length of the clubs, or are you swinging harder with the longer clubs? I ask because I tend to swing harder with longer clubs, increasing inconsistency. But if you're using the same swing and you can measure the difference in club head speed that would be valuable feedback to get. Keep it the same to keep it consistent (tm). Looking forward to the next one.
I think you will swing faster with lighter shafted clubs. For instance, if you have a 60grm composite shaft in your driver, it will swing faster than say a DG R300 steel shaft in your irons.

@@razor7241 thanks Razor 72!
For hitting into a net outside which unit would you recommend if you were only worried about carry, ball speed, smash factor and swing speed?
As if there isn't enough else to worry about in golf!! Now we add whether our launch monitor is calibrated properly or not. How did Jack Nicklaus ever play such good golf????
LOUIS LAZARUS who is jack nicklaus????
When did Mark Consuelos start doing golf videos? 🤔 Lol. Gonna try one these out
Thanks Matt!
i found the iron setting s to be lower yardage , when using w1 setting iron yardages jump up to my normal yardages . have the launcher set at around 5 ft behind me
Great review. Seems like a really nice monitor.
Thank you for sharing prgr.
Great video again 👍 what you recommend between the garmin g80 or prgr ???
PRGR
@@MrShortGame Thank you for the reply ..Really did you do a test between the two i can look at? I hust taught the G80 has more options on it ?
Can you use this to hit into a net?
It looked like the display was showing carry distance, but you were measuring total distance of your shot. That would mean your carry distance was about 10 yards shorter. Did you actually measure carry distance when checking the actual distance?
Was the single behind you! I like your video but it drove me nuts
Great review. Esp for the price, definitely something to entertain. Seems to do well with range balls and gamers.
You're not counting for roll out...
@@Dr.Kim1979 not the point, the swing Caddie apparently did when it's measuring farther, yet it was deemed to be inaccurate
Because Matt is a LIAR. This is not a Review he's promoting this Garbage as he does in all his reviews. He's a Snake Oil Salesman.
@@youngguns996 wow dude..get a life lol

Do you happen to know if this can be connected to make a home simulator?
I take a look at it a few days ago, but the lack of design on his physical appearance may be a buying factor. As the SC200 that it seems to be a competitor struggle with chipping and pitching?, there is another cheap Japanese launch monitor that has an SD card and record statistics, something that for me seems really cool. mat t what would you pick under 200 bucks????
the SC 300 provides me launch and spin, prefer it because of that.
Ronald van Alphen I had a SC300. Compared it to trackman. Don’t trust any of the numbers except swing speed. Carry distance is a joke! Would also not trust spin numbers either.
Did you ever get some consistent readings with your wedges (70-110 yards) after this video? I'm tempted to buy but was curious about the wedges. Thx!
Vincent Dobbins it is ok for the price but not perfect: ruclips.net/video/dUHf5Om79A8/видео.html
What a nice golfswing you have thank you
There is a new model this year. Have they sent you that yet to review?
Matt how does this compare to the Garmen ? Any chance of you reviewing it?
Cheers from NorCal great stuff
Thanks for the review. I am interested in your opinion on how important would knowing launch angle while trying to dial in your swing is. I have so many reviews and unless you spend over $10k the launch and some of the other advanced options are not that accurate. So if there are not that accurate does it definite you to see those numbers? Looking to make a purchase asap!
I usually only look at carry distance and swing speed. Sometimes I look at apex number on SC300
If you use this to figure out club gapping, does it matter what ball you use or could you use range balls?
Nice device and nice video. But I have one question. Are you Steve Carrell‘s brother?
14:30 ... little birdie putt ... made it one handed ... HAHAHA!!
