- Steve Vai and the String Theories band perform the song "The Crying Machine" from the new DVD "Live In Minneapolis - Where The Wild Things Are".
The show was recorded and filmed at the State Theatre in Minneapolis, MN before a sold-out audience as part of Vais successful Sound Theories world tour.
Vai is widely known for both his unprecedented guitar playing techniques and the unique design of his signature series Ibanez Jem guitar. But his fans have become inextricably drawn to his melodic depth, and dynamic stage performance. The continued evolution of his craft is made apparent in the astonishing musicianship presented in "Live In Minneapolis - Where The Wild Things Are". The 2 hour and 40 minute set contains several new tracks and re-orchestrated pieces culled from his rich catalog. His guitar-wielding extravaganza in 'The Murder' is an artistic performance piece that must be seen to be believed.
The addition of virtuoso violinists Alex DePue and Ann Marie Calhoun add a dazzling dimension to Vai's compositions and stage show, delivering fans the unexpected edge they always expect. Other world-class musicians chosen for Vai's band are: Bryan Beller (bass), Jeremy Colson (drums), Dave Weiner (guitar and sitar) and Zack Wiesinger (lap steel).
"Live In Minneapolis - Where The Wild Things Are" is available on DVD, Blu-ray, and audio CD now! Видеоклипы
Steve Vai is so awesome that even his hair moves in slow motion.

Rafael Dillon Rodríguez
Rafael Dillon Rodríguez lol true
How fucking weird is that lmao
Notice how he takes a backseat with his stage act when the violinists are soloing..What a musician..And this is the guy some people call a show off..
Man no kidding, and I gotta say, if I had his talent, people would definitely call me a show off as well! How could you not wanna show off what is arguably the best guitar talent in the world? Haha
Gives his fans all he's got, gets called a show off. Smh
those people are idiots, calling a performance artist a show off, lol, really? it's kinda the whole point of you know, a performance...
it really just sounds like a bunch of salty losers wishing they could be that good.
It kinda impossible for him to pick up a guitar and play anything. Hes so good its instant showoff :)
Wish I was a show off then.
0:50 Steve signals the guy to take a pick from the headstock and the guy pulls one out without missing a beat. Look at the joy of everyone involved in this moment, it's beautiful. Steve seems to be a really nice, down to earth dude.
He is. I met him the last time he came to Mexico. As we spanish speakers say, "Es un amor de persona" (hes a sweetheart)
Same, I met him in Dublin, the guy couldn’t have been more personable. Signed the headstock of my guitar, the works. I’d happily wait in line for him again.
@@mickryan4921 Me, also, too agree 100%~!!..I produced a concert, with him in PENSACOLA, FLA., ....and in 40 years of promoting, i've only worked with one artist, who came close to the personality of Mr. VAI, and that was Mr. MEATLOAF~!!!...they both act like, they're having the best day of their life??..OH, and did i mention, STEVE is a purdy good GUITAR player, too?
My favorite guitarist in the world
that's really sweet
Gravity exist*
Steve's hair: no
the bassist is awesome
+fazeel ashraf Bryan Beller!!!
+fazeel ashraf Yup! He is after all, the premier bassist of the supergroup, The Aristocrats!
*agreed*
holy shit he's the bassist of the aristocrats? woah
no way man. that guy has long hair
0:51 well that hand is never being washed again
Did he die after the show?
😂Ikr

He took a pick
I swear, the whole violinist and fiddle solos are so beautiful.
Rest in peace Alex DePue. Absolute beautiful solos from him.
Was so saddened to hear the news. He was a true virtuoso. May his soul rest in peace.
Wow… this is so sad rip😪
What the hell he is no more😮😭
At 4:55
Also for her, as she is beautiful as well!
After show Steve killed that green cable.

Steve is a great MUSICIAN, but he's also a great MAN. He isn't egocentric and he also allows other musicians to express themselves! You are great! sei grande
Francesco 94 I was watching him teach a lesson on For the Live of God on RUclips and he said he watches videos of people covering his songs and said "These kids are very talented but I would like to see them take my music further."
he's set a precedent. why work backwards? Paul Gilbert says stuff like that all the time too. These guys got to where they are because they're the best, and they're not stupid they, they know it. Steve's talked on how Korn blew his mind because they did exactly this. they expanded on his idea. Simple.
Steve Vai and the people who play with him do something really beautiful.
Perfect comment.
could`t agree with you more. :)
even knowing your comment was 3 years ago i have to say that they even enjoy doing look at them smiling man :P
First time I heard this it moved me a lot. And honestly, i dunno why.
Restia Chan me too idk why but it did...
how does steve move in slow motion but the rest of the band not? this proves that he is alien
Mindblowing
Oh my gosh! Finally someone who understands the secret!
Is he surfing with the alien ? Lol
It is a pure joy to have this man exist. Thank You, Mr Vai.
That someone composes and plays in this way...to hear it is why I'm alive.
One thing that I love in Steve Vai is his feelin' while playing, all those facial expressions.. And not to mention his look to the violinists while they're playing, pure respect, not like many artists nowadays
this is a eargasm
🤣
OK this guy is playing a violin with distortion, I've officially seen everything in this world
That thing also has 5 strings and the guy plays really good @@
Best comment ever haha
you should check out "directly from my heart to you" on the Frank Zappa album "weasles ripped my flesh". Amazing electric violin blues stuff.
Nikolai Megdanov is that chriss Farley
search for "Apocalyptica"
All bands: We need a singer!!
Steve Vai's guitar: Nah
The trading off and blending in with the violins is just so incredibly beautiful.
Agreed. Steve will always be top 5 favorites for me 👍
the rare occasion that 3 genius musicians improv in this manner , with even classical elements at points. splendid. 5:59
Eric Oglesby is someone cutting onions? That moment was beautiful!!!
this is way too underrated . it’s my favorite steve vai song
mine is dyin day
Every time I loose hope, each time i feel depressed on how i think i suck at playing guitar. I always remind myself to hear this thought from a very passionate person i know. Steve is my hero and nothing will ever changed it. I wish someday I’ll have the chance to see him play live.
Steve Vai = Amazing showman-Wizard of guitar...and the violin it's charming.
Wonderful melody...!
Every time I watch this I get this feeling like there is still good in the world. There are still people who love the good things in life. Steve, your talent is incredible. In this world of entitlements, you show us that it's hard work, thousands and thousands of hours of practice, over decades of dedication that bring you to such a high level of extraordinary mastery over your craft. It's not just the music, it's not just the beautiful show you put on, but all of this together with the intense feelings you dig out of us from deep within as you put your soul into six strings and a pic for all of us to see. It's something I will never get tired of. The first time I ever heard For The Love Of God I sobbed. Your genius in those chords and riffs will never get outdated. They will forever stand the test of time until time is no more. Thank you sir for your mark on this generation!
Well said Joe.
wow Steve is still evolving with his music.
how many arrangements can one song have?
sounds like no single performance is ever the same!
may Steve continue to serve us his genius for many years to come.
The bassist is awesome as well
Hell yes, that slapping was phenomenal
When you wanna say Steve Vai sucks in his performance, think again. He did not only write the guitar parts for his songs. He writes the bass, drums, violins, external instruments etc. A man who can write for a whole symphony orchestra. He is one musician I place my respect to even though i have my own favourites.
Pauzidi Ipuing dude honnestly that kind of counts for nearly annything. In this youtube age people tend to putt things on a pedestool what they dont understand but try seeing things for what they are and what mechanics are needed for m and what you need the human body or mind accomplisch that .i mean look with a clear sence. Also al the fierce comments of people deffending oppinions people forget what is really important ; happines in anny form and yes if art makes you happy its a good thing to have in your life but dont blind stare on importance or oppinions. Lots of things have been done for manny years just that lots of people (in this short attentionspan society) dont understand sommething rigjt away doesnt make it super human
thank god i got to see this
Great now try WRITING ENGLISH
Doesen't necessarry mean that if he writes all then its good music. I think it bad .
@@pzdipuing Given the way you write/type I highly doubt so.
let's see the karate kid do that 😁

Laying straight on bed, listening to this . . . Goosebumps & tears arent stopping
this is what music sounds like, this is real music
That sequence at 6.00 minutes gets me every time - fabulous.
Haha, a flying-V violin :D I've never seen that!
Vojife electric at that.
HOLYYYY CRAP is that brian bellar on bass, killer groove as always...
great band, great sync
Watching him and the violinists, especially the female one, going back and forth and smiling and sounding great - cured my depression. I'm not even playing around. I needed to watch this lol
Steve seems like a very peacfull guy.
Until you hear the song "F@#$ yourself"
until he starts yanking on that vibrato bar. sometimes he seems like a crazy man.
Better than porn.

The harmonies in this live version between Vai and the violinists are so beautiful I almost cry every time I hear it, Superb!!!
This is musical composition, playing and improvisation at its very best. Absolute world-class playing from everyone on that stage.
elements for a steve vai perfectly perfect song: beautiful theme with sense of italian drama, brutal hendrix power riff, technical solo, all supporting by fantastic drum&bass session!
i feel like the instruments are talking with each other wow great melody
ruben lopez I always liked that Steve never felt overshadowed by other virtuoso musicians and has played with many like Tony MacAlpine and shared solos and the spotlight with them.
Steve has such great musicians playing with him. What a glorious combination!
I've watched this concert so many times, but today I started noticing how awesome that bass player is. Wow!
This song has so much emotion in it.
The 2 violins are beautifull with Steve's guitar.
I can't even find the words to discribe my feelings about this song.
It's musical sex at its best.
its absolutely free, magic, natural and singular
Probably my favorite Vai song right now, such a killer live performance!
Steve Vai and the violinists Alex DePue and Ann Marie Calhoun had lots of fun in this piece. Amazing!
The wavy guitar, that funky bass, and that suave drums are perfect
0:49 stevie allowed him to get a pick from the guitar. Lucky !
If there is perfection, then this is the composition. Since there are no words to describe, I will only say ABSOLUTE FANTASTIC
Hello, how are you doing? It is nice seeing you here.
I love the way he express the music....it really moves my heart
In addition to a spatial technique, Steve has great elegance in his movements when he plays!
Amazing Steve...amazing band!
it doesnt matter if you are able to play at 220 bpm, youll never be as good as steve vai
dude be specific. say notes per second not bpm. what if you are playing in 4/4 lol
Don’t compare those shits with the guitar God
Brasil te ama, Steve Vai!
Looooove the tension build up at the start of this piece!
I've been a music fan since childhood, and I 've listened to a lot of songs over the years. This has to be one of the most perfect songs.
I'm nearly crying. So good.
Toda vez que escuto essa versão, me emociono.
You can tell all three enjoy this so much. The music speaks for all of em. I love it
Simply the best. What a classy guy and extreme talent. My favorite guitar player of all time.

This, one of the most exciting compositions in guitar music at all times,is the magic from one of the greatest guitarists of our time, hats off in reverence
Wow, so much musical talent on the same stage at the same time! I would have loved to have seen this performance in person.
Steve, sou do Brasil, você é um gênio da música. Ouvir suas composições me inspira a querer aprender mais sobre guitarra.
The size of this man's fingers is unnatural😂
I like Steve Vai and his team. It look to be so happy in playing the last song. Thank you.
Vai is great as always. But man, when I first saw this concert, I was completely blown away with the two violin players being able to keep up with him! Amazing performance!
combination of heaven and pain
Think about people who don't know Vai and imagine the fun they're missing
I just found out about him today, BLOWN AWAY!!!
One of my favorite tunes
Violins owned the guitar in this classic music..at that point...kudos to Steve to understand what music is...always be humble...just let it shine..love the music...
The bassist is also killing it
That is Bryan Beller. Legendary bassist.
Another masterpiece TKU Steve 🙏
The Girl on violin is awsome! Real music player, sensible and clever. Thumbs up!
magnificent blend of musicianship
정말 최고의 연주…최고의 음악…멈춰있는 심장에 펌프질 해주는 느낌…
