- I have been chasing this Akko Mod 007 v2 build for what feels like forever. When I missed the initial launch I waited for ages, scoured the internet and even died a little inside when Akko told me this would no longer be in production. Shortly after I gave up on the board Akko restocked the board and restocked my faith. Today we're going to build it with some Aflion Tropical Waters picked up from Keebhut and top it with some sexy Sushi keycaps. Come on over and peep this magical beast!

I misspoke about the keycap clearance. To clarify, they have had no issue with long-pole switches that I have used them in (Kailh Pro Burgundy, Purple Panda, & Tropical Waters). What did you think of the build? Will you be picking up the new Akko Mod 007S with south facing sockets when it drops? Let me know in the comments.
Great video, finally someone showed all the layers properly assembled in order :)
Quick question: did you screw the foam that goes at the bottom? It seems to be pre-cut for all the electronics and the screws too, or did you just put it in the casing on top of your own foam?
Thanks for stopping by and checking out the video! Precut case foam is usually just placed in the bottom of the case. There's no need to really secure it with anything.
the keycap link you have is a literal lifesaver. i'm trying to build a budget board right now and quality clones are exactly what i need! thank you once again! (also i left a comment asking you about your thoughts on the ktt kang whites. i bought the switches i have to say, those switches are phenomenal for the price you pay (lubed of course)! hopefully you get a chance to show them off in a video :)
I have to say as much as I like my q3 and keychron's boards I feel that the Mod 007 is much nicer compared to the q1. Akko's colorways are far better than Keychron's usual blue, grey, and black trio plus the implementation of a knob is way cleaner than the q series. The new south facing variant will be a much-welcomed improvement and if they eventually add via/qmk support then I think the 007 will become the definitive king of budget 75 percents.
110% agree with this. Q series needs a v2. The cases are too thin and, like you said, the knob implementation is like an afterthought. If they just took some design queues from Akko they would be amazing. If they don't, though, they are going to fall behind the curve in the mid-tier market. Once Akko starts dropping south-facing boards (one was just announced last week) and adds VIA support its game over. They're are going to dominate that market segment. Thanks for your input!
@@punkshoo I think the large range of the q series will still keep keychron ahead for while combined with Akko not seeing Via/Qmk as a major priority, but I agree there will be a shift in power once Akko decides to add small quality of life improvements like full south facing sockets.
22:45 i couldn't see anything, would you mind explaining it more? Cuz this is gonna be my first build and just afraid to miss something important. Thank you!
What I am trying to demonstrate before my fat hand gets in the way is that you use the hooks of the switch puller to lift up on the PC plate while pressing down on the switch. This can help snap the switch into softer plates.
I bought mine today not knowing about north facing and the mod007s, I was looking for ACR Pro 75 but not on stock in the store so they suggested me this, luckily i bought akko Creme Blue v3 which has long stem so not a problem with cherry profile keycaps, I thought i will be heartbroken about it when I found out about north and south facing since its my first custom keyboard luckily not hehe, the build of this thing is rock solid.
Thanks for sharing your experience with us and glad it all worked out in the end!
damn, the fact that it can be so clacky and thocky (on my channel) and have north facing but still not have issues, its just the best 75% board u can probably find
After using it since the build I am still in love with every bit of it. This will be in the rotation on a regular basis. The looks, sound, and feel are just amazing.
Such a good keyboard, also the sushi keycaps fit well on the board. I had the and they werent good for white and black keycaps. But looks so good in this light blue case!
Thanks for the affirmation and glad you like it!
you should try a forcebreak mod the next time ! i can hear a bit of ping
I don't hear it but it's not off the table. Should generally force break alu board but I haven't heard any ping in either the 007 or 006. You're probably hearing my mic. Still trying to iron out sound test recording with that particular mic. I get some weird ping/cracking any time I record a sound test on it for some reason.
My 007v2 and 006 both had a lot of ping, but force break solved it 100%. It's also just about the easiest mod you can do, so it's worth it.
Anyone have issues with this keyboard not being detected by windows/not getting power? Idk if my PCB is defective or the cable that plugs into the back of the PCB but this kit just doesn’t work for me
I have not experienced any issue with mine since I built it and it comes and goes off my desk frequently. Make sure you're plugged directly into the machine and not using a USB hub. Make sure you've got the latest version of the Akko Cloud Driver (Windows: en.akkogear.com/files/Akko%20Cloud_setup_240.2.57.zip / Mac: en.akkogear.com/files/Akko%20Cloud%20Driver(MAC20221024).dmg). If it still doesn't work try flipping the USB-C end of the cable over. At that point if you still have an issue its best to reach out to Akko support to see what they can do.
How is the encoder knob? The V1 had some serious wobble issues.
The knob is mechanically sound but it does carry to same issue as other Akko knobbed products where the knob has limited functionality.
@@punkshoo I appreciate the quick response! Subbed 🙌
Good day.. New subscriber here.. Is this still your favorite keyboard until now? Hehehe. Planning to get my 1st custom keyboard and im thinking of this.. Any suggestions or recommendations for my 1st build with this? I prefer silent and for gaming..
I still love it and it is one of my favorites. I've been using my Satisfaction 75 with Cream Soda switches lately but I do still cycle in the 007 as I enjoy the typing feel, sound, and aesthetic. If you are new to keyboards I strong suggest checking out keyboard.university to gain an understand of the different aspects of keebs so you can make an educated purchasing decision. There are tons of keyboard options out there for you and it recommended that you join a community (discord, reddit, forums, etc) to discuss those available options. Thanks for stopping by and good luck on your hunt!
the mod007v2 is always out of stock for me, where did you get it
I got it directly from Akko back in May. It's just been put off for other builds with higher priority. Keep an eye out for the new Mod 007S that's hopefully dropping in the next month or so.
i have the same board, it truly is amazing!
Thanks for stopping by and checking out the vid!
@@punkshoo no problem, keep up the good work👍
Out of curiosity would you prefer the akko MOD007v2 over the keychron q1?
All day. The Q1 took so much effort to get sounding good because its so thin. And with the release of the Mod 007S, a south facing Mod 007 v2, yesterday its even more of a no-brainer. At this point the only benefit of the Q1 is QMK/VIA support.
@@punkshoo Would definitely hop on the mod007v2 or the 007s but unfortunately they don't have a white version in stock. Beautiful board you made btw!
Thank you! Best of luck on your hunt!
@@alvanderlor1679 I wanted the white version too but settled on the space gray. It looks much better than I anticipated.
q1 v2 is very very heavy, this is even heavier than q1? man, I don't know what to say, lol.... but on the other hand, love to hear how it sounds like with the tape mod
It feels heavier than the Q1. Sadly I can't really weight them to see since my Q1 is weight modded. But stock for stock the Mod 007 certainly feels a good bit more robust.
Mod007V2 baby
Awwww yyeaaahh
The Akko 007 supports screw in I think
You are correct! It supports plate mount AND PCB mount stabs.
Apart from the lack of QMK/VIA and the north facing layout, the biggest reason why I didn't get this, is because it just doesn't sell. I don't want to lose money on something I only tried for a week. I've also noticed that people in the hobby, (OGs) don't recognize AKKO as a contender in the custom scene.
Hi and thanks for checking out the vid! These are true statements and shouldn't be something to consider when purchasing what many would consider as a budget board. You buy these $150-180 alu boards because you want one. Not because you wan't to resell. There are other boards for you if that's what you're into. Totally different market segment.
