Love the homage to 3ildcat! These kind of videos are relaxing, and it’s nice to see you try something you have a passion for. A tip: if you will continue to do subtitles for your videos, I would suggest checking the color against its backdrop. The yellow subtitle against a wooden desk made it difficult at times. Other than that, solid build! Akko is making great strides to listen to feedback from community
Haha glad you noticed, 3ildcat is probably one of my biggest inspirations and I got into the hobby cuz of his videos! Appreciate the feedback, will make sure to keep this in mind next time 👍
Thanks for commenting to say this. I love the board, the build and the video quality, but the captions were a little difficult to read, especially for me as a mobile user. A different color or perhaps a thicker border might help with the readability. At any rate, I'm subscribing now, can't wait to see more!
Just bought the Mod 007s V2 during their cyber monday sale. Price ended up at around 190CAD with the shipping (i also live near the GTA), quite a grab for 190CAD if i do say so myself.
Nice review man. Really like the vintage lens at work for the broll! Just a question. Is this worth the higher price tag than the monsgeek M1? I'm pretty torn lol.
Thanks for the comment, apologize for the later reply! I would probably go for the monsgeek M1 as it offers more value. Essentially the same board but with via support and cheaper
@@pusakalmkb I used d65 for bottom case and stock poron for top. But d65 is thicker anyways. So even if i used all stock poron, it’d probably still move around
I wonder if Akko will eventually sell the pcb for this separately, I have a Gmmk pro with messed up pcb, and it almost looks like this one will fit it.
I believe what you are referring to are the stabilizers pads. I only cut the parts around the screw because personally, I don’t like how the pads make the stabilizer feel “mushy” and sound muted.
nice vid, although i prefer regular commentary rather than subtitles only (both comentary and subs together are good tho). when it's so little commentary, i just skip the video usually bc i'd rather read an article than watch a video if i'm just going to read and look at pics. just me tho
Appreciate the feedback! I was having trouble deciding whether to do a normal voice over or just subtitles but ultimately decided to give the latter a shot. The creation of this channel and intro into this hobby for me were mainly video's from wildcat. His content is a huge inspiration and I really enjoy his style so I decided to try it out lol. I'll probably continue to do more voice over videos but from time to time I might publish one of these. Also script writing is a pain 😭
@@YBBK sure, I get it, and it’s your channel. I actually specifically skip wildcat and many other creators because they don’t have commentary, as good as their videos are otherwise. It’s just not a format for me
The stabilizers were designed for 1.6mm pcb and the 007 one is 1.2mm. Since shims or washers are not included, I decided to use the stabilizer pads to fill up the missing space. But I personally don't like how they make the stabs feel mushy. As a result, I just cut out the parts that would touch the stab stem. This way I can fill the gap without affecting the sound or feel! Learned this trick from 3ildcat lol
Dam! Never knew shipping to switzerland is that expensive! Thats unfortunate to hear but just curious, are these prices similar for other european countries?
@@YBBK I think so. Maybe because switzerland is not in the european union. But yes it was crazy expensive. Just wanted to give some feedback, because the keyboard community in middle europe isn't that big.
I have a question . i bought a new hotswap keyboard and should i cut the keyboard plate in the middle since the pcb is too tight? i mean the plate of letter of ABC and so on because i broke many switch when i try to pull it off
Hmm, most plates shouldn’t have an issue with that. Are you sure your pulling them out correctly? Some switches have very tight tolerances so you have to wiggle them out
Hopefully they do! I think I was told if the mod007s is successful, akko will look into releasing more south facing refreshes of their previous boards. Not completely sure though
just wondering a couple things, is it necessary to detach the wire when changing the plate, because im scared of breaking the connection. does the pcb support clip in stabs? will the hotswap sockets fit switches that are not akko?
Yes I need to detach the jst cable when changing the plate, its pretty simple as shown in the video, just make sure to take you r time and be careful. The PCB does support clip in stabilizers and yes, the hotswap sockets will fit switches other than akko as well.
Is the hole cut for stabs on the plate same with mod005 size? because apparently I needed to file down mine since the screw in stabs doesnt fit mine but yours was on spot
I also had this issue too while building my mod005 lol. The stabilizer cutout is the same for both its just that the stabilizer in this video (akkos own) had thinner housings. Akko's plates are not designed for thicker stabilizers such as the durock v2. Stabilizers with thin housings that I know of are C3 stabs, KBDFans stabs and akkos own stabs. Theres probably alot more tho
@@YBBK thanks for this. Ill just buy new screw ins then since the plate gets deformed still after filing. I used cherry screw ins from my id67 but it still a tight fit. Anyways cant wait to get my hands on the south facing 007s since the mod series has good build quality with an entry price. Thanks for the review!
I’d say their decent for the price but not as good as durock v2s. I’ve had experience with tx stabs before and I gotta say I still prefere the durocks more lol. Probably an unpopular opinion 😂
No way that the only change from 14:40 to 15:30 was 2 layers of tape. Too much of a difference for what tape mode usually does. I have my build with polyfill instead of case foam to improve flex, ixpe sheet, plate foam, sa keycaps, oil kings and it's still not very different from stock. 2 bottom rows are great actually but upper rows not very consistent
@@YBBK Stock sheet is ok but i put ixpe because it's used almost in every build with simmilar sound profile like your tape mod build. Turns out that tape really does change sound more than ixpe/pe foam, not sure why it's so effective with mod007. So your test is very accurate
Please stick to the end for comparison between the gmmk pro and keychron q1
I love it when you switch to camera mics. It goes to show that sound tests should be taken with a grain of salt. Thank you for this!
Holy moly, this thing went alive with the 2 layers of tape and the poly plate.
Intro very tasty 🎉🎉
Products from Akko still good

I built a mod004 for a friend, it was wonderful, especially with deeper sounding linears like the DK Onis
Do you have review for keychron q3? Really like how you review with different types of mod

13:17 I think you have to install the gaskets on the plate so it won't move.
Ah probably, but I think another reason could be due to the gaskets being too thin resulting in no compression

no foam + force break is definitly the right move on that board
Ay nah why PC no foams sound so good tho
I think it's better to install the stab shims underneath the PCB. Also why would you cut the shims like that?

Do you think Akko will restock the space grey? Or for that matter, do you think they might release more colors in the future?
I’m pretty sure they’ll restock it soon, I don’t see why they wouldn’t. As for more colours, probably not for this model.

ah yes, gaksets

although QMK/VIA is the norm now, are basic macros and key remapping still possible on the software of akko? and are layers possible in the software?
Yes the akko software does allow for remapping and basic macros. I believe it supports layers as well!
Was there a specific reason why you had to cut the dampening pads for the stabs, and not use the whole pad?
