      @@saraheschweiler4939 Totally! I recently learned you have to be really careful about simply buying these, say, off Amazon. They need to be carefully designed and placed for temperature control and other factors. Sadly, the bat population near me is getting decimated by wind turbines along with fungus 😢

    Just a thought about the planting of bamboo... it is considered a highly invasives specie, and can end up costing you TONS of $$ (thousands, tens of thousands sometimes) to remove it. It is not allowed in our town. Just to let you know. Be careful. One man had to replace his neighbor's foundation- it rooted under his house and began lifting it up!

    Great timing to straighten us out on these items. Love your eyeglasses frames. Good to know about the lighting options that are rechargeable, long-lasting LED decorative light sources. So pertinent that you mention that we don't want anything jarringly at odds with either the interior of our home from whence we can see the outdoor living space nor with the home's exterior. It is good that you've reminded us that fencing & coverings for privacy, including greenery added, often add to sound absorption. I think it is way too easy to forget that fragrance should be planned and doesn't just happen from nearby plants or the barbecue.

    Beautiful ideas, but some of us live in HOAs in the south (first time living in an HOA-not my choice) Not only are we restricted in what we can do even to our backyards but I can't keep anything clean with the amount of pollen that rains down on us. We just moved to Savannah from California and it's crazy the amount of pollen we get from the pine trees. Then we have to deal with wind/hurricanes and rain, so I feel I can't have all the beautiful things I had in California in the backyard. I even need a solution for our screened in porch with algae growth and pollen. 😢

      You are so right about fire pits and outdoor fireplaces in Florida! It’s difficult to really get the real benefit out of them.
      So many Florida folks opt for candles (battery-operated and otherwise) to provide some ambiance. And there are some excellent scented candles that can do double duty as lighting and fragrance (if you can enjoy scented candles).

    Lisa, we have an enormous problem here in San Mateo County, CA. And I'm sure a lot of other areas have new rules about NO GAS FIREPLACES or even gas ranges (soon) in the kitchen or anywhere else in the home. This goes for all new construction and remodels. I have not seen a single electric fireplace that I like, regardless of the price. Even the most expensive ones (that require water/steam) look fake to me. My house is from 1907 and the decorating style is English Tudor/Storybook. So everything is antique looking - not modern in the least. What can I do now? I was planning on using a LOT of gas fireplaces throughout the home for ambiance and heating purposes. This is going to be more than a remodel - more like a complete rebuild. If you have any ideas, regarding realistic looking antique style fireplaces (that are not gas), I would certainly like to hear about them. Thanks in advance!

      How about wood fireplaces? I'm sure you can find vintage wood burner fireplaces

    • @kimmyz
      @kimmyz Год назад

      @@Kath-Erina Wood burning fireplaces would be my first choice, but they have been banned in our area for years. Only people who already have them can use them, and are fined heavily if used on a "spare the air" day. It seems that half the days in the year are now "spare the air" days. I have one wood burning fireplace in my house, but it's completely falling apart and can't be used as is. If rebuilding, the City makes people convert to electric fireplaces now.

    • @Kath-Erina
      @Kath-Erina Год назад

      @@kimmyz ah okay, yeah that sucks... In my country wood fireplaces are allowed but only with special filters in the chimney to filter out particles and co2. Is that something your city will be okay with maybe?

    • @kimmyz
      @kimmyz Год назад +1

      @@Kath-Erina Unfortunately, no wood burning is allowed - even with catalytic converters or whatever they are called. The only people who can use them are the people who already have wood burning fireplaces. And they are greatly discouraged from using them. I know that lots of people are allergic and it's bad to burn wood, coal, gas or anything when it comes to our fragile ozone layer. But so far, nobody has come up with anything that looks good when it comes to electric fireplaces (antique ones). Also, keep in mind that our homes are probably a lot closer together than yours (?) So having a wood burning fireplace right next door (here) might very well bother the next door neighbor. Another reason that wood burning fireplaces are no longer allowed is because it's nearly impossible to make the house air-tight and therefore energy efficient. Even with the flue closed, warm air can escape up the chimney.

    • @LisaHoltDesign
      @LisaHoltDesign  Год назад
