Hey Guys, This one's about my SECRET WEAPON, which is my TOP FAV EASY CARE INDOOR PLANTS!!! You'll love this, let me know which one of your FAV's I left out down below!!!!
Most of the plants you have chosen make great air purifiers. They are also easy to reproduce. My favorite plant is Zamioculcas, because of its botanical heritage...
Can you do Entryways, small entryways in particular AND duel-purpose rooms? OR... can you do an episode where you advise which interior design goes with which exterior. For example, mid-century modern interior design wouldn’t look right in an old Victorian or super modern in a farmhouse. 😬 I have a 1940’s bungalow and wondering what’s the proper interior style.
As a plant person, I would like to advise that you plant the plant in a pot with drainage holes and you put them into decorative pots. So that you can keep them happy by not keeping their feet (roots) wet.
Oooh Regina I KNEW we had some green thumbs in the channel fam!! 💕👏🏻 This is a GREAT tip - thank you so much for sharing a little bit of your wisdom!! 💚🥰
I went with her snake plant suggestion. It’s a dark corner that gets light from the door windows but that’s it. You’re so right on the pot! I had to hunt every shelf of Home Depot to find it, but I did. A gorgeous tall, black, waved-wood, with built-in drainage section at the bottom that’s invisible from the outside. The cost was $80 and considering the flower shop had the same thing for $250 (which is what I was looking to find), I think I made out ok. There’s too many pots out there with either no holes for drainage or make you buy an underplate that looks horrible for any bigger piece that stands out as part of the decor. The only thing I can add is to remember to pack the dirt because it sunk a good inch already and I’ll be carefully re-doing the snake plant seating today. Hope it doesn’t settle that much again.
My secret weapon for plants is not to take them out of their original container. My plant shop told me that and it works. My Fiddle Leaf, after 5 years is about 7 feet tall.
Love having plants around... Not only do they look fabulous, but they improve air quality and help get you grounded when caring for them. So glad you did this video.
Amelia!! A lot of you guys are mentioning that they improve air quality - such a need in times like these am I right?! 🙌🏼 I LOVE that plants look amazing while providing so many benefits to us!! 🥰🥰 Plus who doesn't like a good plant?! Thank you so much for watching and tuning in this Saturday AM!!! 😘💚🪴
I accidentally left a pothos plant in my darkened classroom over the summer - over two months without water or sunlight! Yes, the poor thing looked quite dead when I discovered it in August, but I decided to water it and give it some sunlight anyway. Much to my surprise, it came back to life! Truly, a fool-proof plant! (From the fool who left it in the classroom all summer!)
Cheaper options for plant decor: propagation and papier-mâché. If you have willing friends and patience, you can grow your own plants by getting cuttings from friends. Most larger cities also have gardening clubs where people exchange plants. Meetup has garden clubs too. Yes you can mail plant cuttings. You just have to figure out the particulars for the plant in question. A great trick is to put a planter facade around a cheap planter. You can just reuse your cans & bottles for plants and then use papier-mâché to cover them up. Papier-mâché can be made to look like anything and it can be made waterproof.
OMG R these are AMAZING tips!! 👏🏻👏🏻 Propagating is SUCH a great way to save money when it comes to plants...I know some places even have facebook groups to share cuttings!! 🤩 It's a whole plant community out there - isn't that nice??? 💕🌟 I am ALL about this Papier-mâché tip too...this comment is just LOADED with good ideas!! 🤯 Thank you SO much for sharing a little bit of your wisdom - I absolutely LOVE hearing from you guys!!! 🥰💚
Hi Lisa, I live in UK, my husband was qualified interior designer/architect. He died 15 years ago, so you can imagine that watching you brings back all of what he used to advise. Even this video about plants is part of design. You forgot the aspidistra, a plant very popular in Victorian times which is virtually indestructible. Best wishes, JS
Awww JS what a wonderful way to remember a loved one! ❤️❤️ Design can be so healing - I'm so glad I can bring back some happy memories! Thanks for sharing one of your fav indoor plants - I'm always looking for more!!! 🥰💕
Ooooh McKena GREAT tip!!! 💕👏🏻👏🏻 I'm always looking for additions to my list of Lisa-proof plants!!! 😂💙 I'm SO glad so many of you guys already know your stuff on this topic - thank you so much for passing on your wisdom!!! 🥰💚
Hi Lisa, Another wonderful video. Thanks! Pothos is poisonous to dogs and cats. I have a snake plant my father gave to my mother 70 years ago! I’ve nursed it through root rot, dehydration, and abandonment. Its progeny grace more pots. It has lasted long enough to be a member of the family and take on a personality of its own. And, it is a living reminder of my parents, long passed away. A beautiful, if finicky, addition to home decor is a fig tree - ficus benjamina. I also like hibiscus standards. I have found that a floor display of three plants of different heights and leaf shapes placed in colour-coordinated ceramic containers in an empty corner, particularly if lit from underneath with a therapeutic grow light, is a really lush addition to any room.
OMG Lois!! 💕👏🏻 I love this comment - I am SO impressed with your 70 year old snake plant!!! 🤩 Talk about a family heirloom!! 💚 I will definitely have to add the hibiscus to my list of plants to try...thank you so much for the tip!!! 😘🌟
SUCH an amazing approach!!! 👏🏼 Faux plants are definitely a life-saver for those who don't always have the time to take care of plants!!! And most of the time they look EXACT to the real ones!!! 😍🪴 Thank you so much for sharing this and for watching!!! 💗💗
In deep shade you can also go ahead and invest the big money in a large Fiddle Ficus. They can live well in near dark. The less light, the slower they grow, so buy the exact size for the scale of your space.
Grow lights are no longer the expensive impractical thing they once were. You can now get LED grow lights that screw into your existing, conventional fixtures. The only catch is that the light is very white, like sunlight, not like the amber glow we typically prefer indoors. If that’s an issue you may want to put it on a timer so it runs when you’re not home (sounds wasteful, but these are LED lights, running on pennies a day).
It’s another rainy night in Dallas. Nice night to sit in a comfy chair with all four of my chihuahuas under the blanket and watching our favorite designer!
Hello, Lisa! What you called Snake Plant is called Saint George's Sword (Espada de Sao George) in Brasil. It's traditionally planted in vases, or on the ground, near the entrance gate and/or the entrance door, as a protection statement to homes and businesses. It also a plant that acts as an active air cleaner in rooms inside a building.
Eonia!! I just learning more and more about these snake plants from you guys!! 🤓 A lot of you guys are also saying that it's called the "mother-in-law tongue" HOW FUNNY!!! 😂😂 Thank you so much for sharing this!! 🪴💗✨
I love the snake plants. I just obtained 3 about 3 weeks ago because they're supposed to be super easy to care for and definitely fit in with my MCM decor. Snake plants are also very good at cleaning/filtering indoor air so a double win for me!
Ooooh Lisa that sounds absolutely FABULOUS!!! 💕👏🏻👏🏻 Don't you just LOVE the way that plants make a space feel?? They really do make me feel a little healthier just having them around!! 😂💚 So glad you're getting in on some indoor plant fun - enjoy!!! 🥰💙
Hello Lisa! I am actually an avid plant enthusiast and highly experienced gardener (indoor and out). I absolutely adore the fact you are encouraging people to consider incorporating plants into their room design. A couple of helpful hints are that Fiddle Leaf Figs can be very tricky! As you mentioned, Bright indirect light is a MUST. I would also suggest purchasing a moisture meter if you’re new to this plant. They are very inexpensive, usually under $10, and really help make sure you are not under or over watering your plant. They also do not like to be moved, so if you’re a person who constantly rearrange his furniture, please leave your FLF in the place where it has been happy! Another key point for anyone considering a Monstera Deliciosa is that you CAN train them to a pole and prune to help control the shape. One of the BEST PLACES to incorporate plants into is actually your KITCHEN! Consider starting an indoor herb garden and you can enjoy both the look of the plants and fresh herbs for cooking with all year long!
Wow Angela!!! SO great this comment and I'm sooo glad you liked the idea of talking about plants! They're so important to making a space, but theres so much hesitation because they're an investment, and when they die it's heartbreaking....maybe I'll make it a series!!! :):):)
OMG Angela I am SO glad we have some real plant experts in these comments!!! 🤩🌱🌱 These are all SUCH good tips....everybody listen up!!! 🔝💕 You are SO inspiring me with this herb garden idea - thank you SO much for sharing some of your wisdom!!! 😘 You guys teach me so much!!! 🥰👏🏻👏🏻
@@LisaHoltDesign my outdoor garden is a container garden, because right now I am living in a temporary spot until building material price is level out and I can afford to build my home on the land I purchased. I have also lived in under 1,000 sq. ft. forever so I have some great ideas for indoor gardening in small spaces.
Another fav of mine is bamboo. It will live anywhere inside and even do without water for lenghts of time. I like to get neat square glass jars from Dollar Tree (in the candle dept.), and fill with stones from the craft dept. and arrange the bamboo within the stones and add water.
They need a special variety with razor blade edges to match my ex-mother-in-law’s tongue. For reference: my daughters call their grandparents He Devil and She Devil. It’s not just me who sees their “special” qualities. ;-)
OMG Donna sounds like you are my kind of girl!!! 💚👏🏻 I think plants add something SO important to a space!!! 💕💕 SO glad I could cover one of your fav topics, and thank you for tuning in this week!! 🥰 Yay plants!!!! 🤩🌱
You are speaking my language! I have plants indoors and outdoors. One that requires a lot of water but is happy most anywhere is a peace lily. I recently bought a root bound peace lily at a thrift store for five bucks, took it home, divided it to make four new plants! Talk about design that keeps giving!!
OMG Emily!! 🤩🤩 What a bargain - and such a beautiful plant!!! 😋💕 I had NO IDEA that peace lilies were such hearty little flowers...I might have to snag one for myself!!! 🌟👏🏻 I've had an absolute BLAST hearing from all of the plant experts in our channel fam this week...you guys teach me SO much!! 🥰
For easy care I’d add Tradescantia for some shades of silvery purple. It’s another good one for hanging, and can handle any light and a lot of neglect. In fact, I over-grew and over-neglected mine to the point where the top was droopy and dead, but it had some great growth on the end, so I just clipped off the good parts, propagated in water, and replaced the old dying plant with the little re-rooted clippings. Another beautiful and highly resilient one that handles low light is the Peace Lily.
Thanks, Lisa! I’ve found that Dracaenas are my favorite, a good assortment of varieties, (stripey Marginata and Warneckii are classics) and they only need me to remember to water them every 3-4 weeks. Sometimes they get kind of tall, (3+ feet, not huge) then they look a bit like palm trees, which is nice. But to get them back to being nice and bushy, there’s a way to grow new roots high up on the stem, called air layering. After which, replanting makes them all full again. Fairly slow growing, not fussy about light. The occasional brown tip? I just scissor it off at an angle, so the leaf still looks cool and pointy! Thanks for the excellent, Can Do attitude in your videos!
Awww P this is just the sweetest comment!!! SO glad that this video was helpful!! 😘😘 Air layering is a GREAT tip - there is just so much you can do with these fabulous plants!!! 💙🌟 Thank you SO much for sharing a few of your favorite plant hacks.- I learn SO much in these comments!!! 🥰🥰🌱
Thanks, P! Now I don’t have to make this comment. Dracaenas look great and have an indomitable will to live no matter the neglect one make inflict on them! 😁
Pothos was a housewarming/Christmas gift from my friend and it helped me feel confident in getting more plants! So my second one is a snake plant. Starting small and simple but I do love the look of Fiddle Leaf Figs
OMG Maureen!!! 💕👏🏻 What a sweet gift - sounds like your friends have great taste!!! 🤩🤩 Love that you're working your way up to that fiddle leaf fig....you've totally got this!!!! 🌟 Thank you SO much for tuning in for another week of design fun - see you next week!! 😘😘
As a plant freak, let me say you are doing exactly the right thing. This is what I tell people all the time: control your enthusiasm. Start slow. Learn how to manage that first plant, then move onto the second. It’s easy to get carried away, buy a dozen, half of them die anc you don’t know why, you get discouraged, and irs no fun any more.
YES Shenell!!! 🥰💕 I love decorating with plants - they bring such a fabulous bit of life to a space!!! 🤩🤩 I've been having so much fun hearing about everybody's plant friends in the comments - thank you so much for chiming in!!! 💚
OMG Evie I'm not sure Bob is cut out for show business...but I'll let him know he has a fan!!! 😆🌵 There's nothing I love more than hearing I can bring a little bit of design fun to your day...I really do just have the coolest job!! 😋💕 Thank you SO much for being such a sweet part of my channel fam - you guys ROCK!! 🤩👏🏻👏🏻
I saw the most beautiful planters of succulents at a local restaurant. The variety of textures and subtle colors was amazing. I like these better than spiny cacti.
Carol!! Welcome to this FUN community - I am so glad you are digging the videos so far!!! 🥰 Thank you so much for all the support, and thanks for subscribing!!! 😘💖💖
Awww S that that is just the BIGGEST compliment for me!!! 🥰🥰 I LOVE to share the interior design fun with you guys...making these videos is SUCH a blast!!! ❤️❤️Thank you SO much for being a part of my RUclips family - you guys rock!!! 💚☄️
Love real plants - I've got ZZ, jade, fiddle leaf fig, air plants, and bamboo in various places. Also love my orchids because the blooms hang on for so long and they're stunning in my living room! Yes to all the plants!
OMG N!! 🌱 Look at you GO - this sounds like such a fabulous green space!! 😍💚 Orchids are absolutely STUNNING if you can keep them alive - I wish I was that kind of person!! 💕🥰 I am SO jealous...enjoy your plants and thanks for watching!!! 🤩🌟
@@aimeeontheharp I actually find them surprisingly easy to care for. Water sparingly every few days, keep in bright indirect sun, and that’s that. I had one that lasted years and that’s all I did. I never even fed it. And the blooms also SO long.
OMG Blue I could not agree MORE!!! 🥰💕 It is CRAZY what bringing plants into a space can do - I swear it feels like magic sometimes!! 🤩🌱 They really do give your home so much extra life! 👏🏻👏🏻 I LOVE that you're already SO on top of this topic - it sounds like you're living in some sort of magical greenhouse!! SO dreamy!!! 🤩💚
Hi Lisa, I've not had much luck moving a snake plant to a dark corner. The one I had was very unhappy and didn't recover until moved back. It is definitely a full sun to partial shade plant. You'll often see snake plants growing along the sidewalk here in Mexico city since once planted they don't need any care. A roommate had a monstera that was several years old in a large pot. It took the shade much better (and it was quite large as well. He previously had it on a balcony under a shade tree which really had the perfect filtered light.
Oooh Christopher this is a great tip!! 👏🏻💚 I love hearing all about the plants that you guys have in your homes...it really seems like each individual plant is a littttttle bit different!! ❤️😋 SO interesting!! 🤩🤩 I will DEFINITELY keep this in mind when it comes to putting different plants in the shade - thanks for sharing some of your experience!! 🥰💕
Ms Holt…if your followers subscribe to Feng Shui principles, cactus are not suggested for inside a home. Cactus and other plants with thorns (except rose) attract negativity, so recommend outside only. Love your fun videos and great info! Best, JT
About the Monsterra.. Mine was taking over the living room too. Since it grows horizontally, it was becoming problematic in our small living room. We ended up chopping it up from under the knots of the roots and we just put the stems into a vase with water. Apparently they can live forever in water.. you just need to change the water every few days.. best of both worlds!
Plants! Most every one of those grows in my neighborhood (I got photos I can prove it ). Ecuador is an amazing plant place. And while I'm going to leave the plants out of my indoor space for now I am getting great ideas for my very Boho meets Gilligan's Island veranda -- the big red Otovalo print hammock went up this week and a cute royal blue hammock chair. I can see green as a break between the red hand-made brick of the house wall and the red of the hammock (which was bothering me a bit). I LOVE my Saturday coffee date with my favorite home designer!
OMG Susan!! 🤩🤩 Ecuador sounds just SO nice right now...I can't even imagine how beautiful it must be!! 💚🥰 I am also OBSESSED with this veranda that you're describing - I totally think a couple of plants will make it PERFECT!!! 🌱🌱 SO glad I could share a few of my favorite picks...thank you SO much for joining me for design brunch this week!!! 😘☕️
Nayla!! Sounds like it's perfect for someone who isn't the best at growing plants - like me!! 😆🤣 You guys are LOVING this plant, so glad to hear it!!! 👏🏼Thank you so much for tuning in and sharing this AMAZING info!!! 😘🪴💚
Loved this video. Heartily endorse monstera. And it doesn't need tons of light. Ours is happy in a north facing room. A real bonus is you can pull a small section (Google instructions) of 5 or so fronds/leaves to put in a jug or vase on the mantle and it will last forever--ours has been going strong for a year or so. You can use this method to start a new plant as a gift, too.
Candace!! LOVE your passion about this!! 👏🏼 Definitely providing such amazing tips to our community - THANK YOU!! 💖 Who knew there were so many plant enthusiasts here?!? LOVE IT!!! 🤩🪴 Thank you so much again for sharing and for tuning in this Saturday AM!!! 💚💚💚
Awwww!!!! 💕💕 This is my absolute FAVORITE kind of comment to get!!! 🤩💙 I have SUCH a good time sharing design tips with you guys...but even more I LOVE just sharing the design fun!! 👏🏻👏🏻 Thank you so much for making my day with this super sweet comment - it really does mean the world to me!!! 🥰🌎
While I wouldn’t necessarily say I have a black thumb, I just don’t really enjoy taking care of plants. It kind of annoys me, actually. However, I love to forage for fresh greenery and branches, and adore having flowers around. Personally speaking, I find this solution far easier than taking care of plants. And also, it’s something new far more often. Thanks, Lisa for your energy and efforts and advice.
Oooh Della I LOVE flowers too!! 💕💐 Such a fun way to add a little color to your space!! 🥰 And SUCH a good solution if you aren't the plant watering type!! 👏🏻👏🏻 Thank you SO much for this sweet comment, and thanks for tuning in to design brunch!! 🥞 I LOVE hanging out with you guys!! 🥰💚
I’d love to see video about hiring a designer. How to find one, what to ask when hiring one and when to work with one. We are planning to do a complete kitchen remodel next year. How soon should I start working with a designer? How do I find one that specializes in kitchens? How do we talk budget and about their fees? Would love to hear your tips!!
Lori!!! SUCH an amazing question - I got you!! 👏🏼 I posted a video on my channel WAYYYY back when I started my channel talking about hiring interior designers, I would totally watch that video for some insight about all these wonderful questions!!! 🤗💕 I also will be talking a lot more about hiring designers/contractors/etc on the Dezign Club so don't miss out on joining the club!! 🧡 It launches THIS AUGUST so send me your email here www.lisaholt.com/thedezignclub and I will send you ALL the details about the launch!!! 🙌🏼🙌🏼 YAYY thank you so much for asking these questions, I LOVE hearing what you guys have to say!!! 🥰🥰💙
If you are in the US ask if they are NKBA certified. There is so many snags in kitchens that can be avoided when a designer works to NKBA standards ! You are less likely to have draws that interfere with each other and tight uncomfortable spaces with to many work centers crammed together
Lisa, Thank you so much for all the hard work and effort you put into your videos. They are entertaining and quite educational. It is truly appreciated. 💕
Janiece!! Awww OF COURSE!!! I just LOVEEE sharing design and making it so entertaining for you guys to watch!! 💕 Making these videos feels like chatting with friends...I love my channel fam!! 😘😘 Thank you SO much for making my day with this super sweet comment - it really does mean the world!! 🥰🌍
Mad!!! I love these - don't they just make your space feel fabulous??? 💕👏🏻 Nothing like some green to give your room a little life!! 🌱 Sounds like you have the whole plant thing DOWN - thanks for tuning in to design brunch this AM!! 😘 I LOVE chatting with you guys!!! 🥰💚
Crotons are great-the colour on a plant that doesn’t even flower! The only challenge for me is giving them enough sunlight. Blazing sun keeps the colour alive; if too dark, the colour goes, never to return (except on new growth). I move mine onto the patio every summer.
YAY I was right! Plants! My plants have definitely added that extra something to my little home ☺️ Both a sense of lux and hygge (ja, I’m Danish). My first plant was my large peace lily, which was a good choice for me because I loooved the watering can and would’ve drowned every other type of plant at the time 😬
I have a red palm that is a great welcome accent for the house. It's about 15 years old, easy, but does need supported a little, but gets lots of compliments!
Elizabeth!! Red palms look so STUNNING, no wonder why you get so many compliments on it!! 😍😍 You guys are sharing a TON of wonderful plants in the comments, they all look so magnificent!!! 👏🏼 Thank you so much for watching and including me in your Saturday plans!! 🥰❤️
Ooooh Maudina!!! 🤩🤩 Shopping for new pots for your plants is so fun - make sure you check out the links I left in the description for you guys!! 💚😉 Their are SO many fabulous planters out there for EVERY single design style - thanks for watching, and happy shopping!!! 💕🥰
Plants. UGH! UGH! UGH! Plants just don't ever do what I want them to do. They do their own organic thing and you've gotta go with the flow. Plus, once I've brought one into the house, I can never, ever give up on it. If I have plants, my space starts to look like a hospice for greenery. Although, omg, I'm thinking of getting an orange tree. :O
LOVE, Love, love this one!!! So important to have natural elements inside your home. We are a part of nature and plants speak to our souls in the most soothing way. I have a jade, snake plant, Christmas cactus, chifforella (sp?), succulents, and more that I don't even know the name of! Great video Lisa!!!
YES Sweet!! 💕👏🏻 I couldn't agree more - bringing plants into your space is SO good for you!! 🤩 A few of you guys have mentioned that they improve air quality too...the list of pros goes on!!! 🤯🤯 Sounds like you already have this topic DOWN - thank you sooooo much for tuning in again this week!! 😘😘 I've been having so much fun chatting with you guys!! 🥰💚
HAHAHAHA the intro already had me screaming laughing!!!! Oh Lisa you are such a gem!!!!! .... AND BOB????? HAHAHAHAAHA!!!!!!!! I died!!!! ........ and I didn't know that plants can be shy.... I AM FREAKIN LOVING THIS VIDEO!!!! AAAAAND your plant choices are TOP TOP TOP NOTCH!!!!! I LURVE plants in the home, they make every place immediately come alive!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE ENTERTAINMENT AGAIN!!!!! ♥♥♥♥♥
OMG Sandra EXACTLY!!! 💕👏🏻👏🏻 Plants bring SO much life into a space...it really does feel like magic sometimes!!! 🤩🌱I'm so glad I could introduce you guys to my friend Bob this week...I'll let him know he has a fan!!!!! 😂🌵 SO glad this was a helpful video, and thanks for all of your SUPER fun comments!!! 🥰💚
A suggestion (even if the plant in question doesn’t fit your natural design style): check what is common or traditional in your area, the boring tried and true staples. With Nordic trad buildings and our open windows, geraniums and coelus thrive easily indoors, where more Mediterranean style plants can be uphill and against the wind. Same if you live somewhere dry and hot, even with AC, the conditions are different, or Florida - you can grow tropical or semi-tropical easy houseplants that won’t die If you open a window.
Hey Lisa, you forgot my favourite, Pilea! I found mine about a year ago, at a florist that was embarrassed to show it to me, when I asked her if she had it. It has been so hard to come by, mine was a bit sorry looking, and she had put it into a window behind the display to see if it would come to life again, I got it for pennies, and today, it is big and wonderful. Love it. I also have an old Dracaena, it has grown and doing great, until I got that rascal british shorthair kitten.. She tried to climb it, and her favourite past time, is to pick the strawlike leaves of the plant.. Not very pretty anymore, the plant that is, the cat is still pretty, she has now grown, and is an outdoor cat, feel free to climb in the trees outside! 😂😂😂
Oooh Ibis I'll have to get one!! 🤩🤩 I absolutely LOVE those little round leaves....SO cute!!! 💕🌱 I LOVE that your Dracaena ended up being cat friendly...talk about a bonus!! As long as it keeps the cat from scratching the furniture, right?? 😂😂 Anyways, I am ALWAYS looking for new ideas for my Lisa-proof plants list - plus I love hearing you guys' stories!!! 💙Thank you SO much for the suggestions - you guys rock!!! 😘😘
Lisa I just need your help on Everything I have an empty home and just lost 😞 on what to do. Painting colors that works for my home, the styling am looking for, and not wanting to make any mistakes. Thanks for All you give

I hired a designer years ago in Dallas. We went to a designer fabric store and she asked what I liked and inspires me. I pick a botanical in colors that I loved. From there. I picked wall paper and paint colors throughout the house. You can do it. You just need a starting place. Go!
OMG Ileana yes!!! 👏🏻👏🏻 I'm LOVING seeing all of you plant enthusiasts out in the comments this weekend - I knew you guys were going to LOVE this one!!! 😘🌱 I can't even IMAGINE how beautiful your home in PR must be with all of that greenery...thank you SO much for taking the time to tune in this week!!! 🤩💚
I’m so excited for this one! I just purchased the olive tree from West Elm you recommended and LOVE IT! Been wanting some more plants but didn’t know what else would look good and real. So glad I found your channel. 😊
AWW thank you so much JL!!! 💗 Can you tell how much fun I have while filming these videos?!?! I can be pretty nutty at times! 🤪😂 Thank you so much for your kind words, and hope you have a fabulous weekend!! 😘🌟💚
I'm lucky to be working in tropical greenhouses all winter, especially since where i live is so cold! (Québec Can.) The secret is DRAINAGE: Roots need to breathe air otherwise they rot. Therefore the soil can't remain water saturated. It's VERY important to always empty the remaining water in the pot holder after watering. In fall, when days are getting shorter, you can almost stop watering, especially the succulents; As soon as the days start to get longer, water normally, every two weeks; If you put your plants outside during the summer, then you can water them every day and give 20-20-20 liquid fertilizer (every 2 weeks or very dilluted each time.) No fertilizer during fall and early spring. Wait for the growing season.
Love plants inside and outside!!!I had a Jade for fifteen years. It was amazing! It had just bloomed for the second year!It takes a long time till they do.I was cleaning the room it was in,put it on the porch. We had a frost and it died.I was so upset!!Wah!😺
I planted a piece of one from my mom, hers are about 50 yrs. old. Mine has been growing for about 20 years and died after we had our house tented for termites. I tried saving it, but it just couldn't make it.
Want to make a note to other people with pets: know what your plants are and whether or not they're poisonous before you bring them in your space. Also, I have a cat who is obsessed with plants and is determined to murder the four in my kitchen, so I unabashedly purchased a silk plant for the living room. So far it's standing up well to the attentions of Howie, and there's no dirt to clean up the two or three times he's managed to knock it over.
Brick!!! 👏🏻👏🏻 Such a good point - silk plants are a great solution for those of you with pets who like to munch on leaves!! 😂💙 I LOVE hearing from you guys on these topics - thanks for sharing what works for you!! 🥰💕
There are cat deterring mulches that will keep kitty out. Unpleasant texture-- not poisonous. None of my fur beasts have ever been plant munchers thankfully. Just had a couple of cats that liked digging in the dirt. Cayenne, citrus peels, aluminum foil, and pinecones are fairly inexpensive cat deterrence options. I like plastic mesh covered with decorative rocks. My current pet/plant conflict is a large dog with zero spatial awareness. I have to both weight and glue down plant pots (earthquake putty). I also have to keep plants out of tail range. My happy boy will beat a plant to death.
Ooo I LOVE this Trish!!! 👏🏼 You guys are literally the BEST with sharing plant suggestions, I definitely am taking notes for my home!!! 📝🤣 Thank you SO MUCH for sharing this and for supporting the channel!!! 💚🌟🪴
I don't believe most bird of paradise plants will bloom indoors. You'd have to be in a very sunny and tropical area. If you can get one to do that, that would be great!
@@trisha3338 thank you-for responding to my post that got so auto-I corrected that even I can’t figure it out. But you got the gist of it-in other words, grow it as a houseplant, enjoy the foliage, know that it will not likely ever bloom. Thanks.
My snake plant is about 6 feet tall and it's huge around, I can send you a picture if you want. Every time someone comments on it, I offer them a cutting. I simply grab a whole group and pull, and no matter how many babies have been donated one can't tell.
OMG Maria that is AMAZING!!!! 🤩🤩 I am SO impressed with your green thumb...give us your secrets!!! 😂💚 I've been having SUCH a blast hearing from all of the plant fans in these comments...and I've been learning a TON!!! 🤩 I love the idea of offering your guests cuttings...so cute!! 👏🏻💕 Thank you SO much for tuning in and sharing your indoor gardening success - I LOVE hearing from you guys!! 🥰💙
Oooh Lynette what a good idea!!! 👏🏻👏🏻 That could be SUCH a fun video as we're all cozying up for fall...I'll totally put it on my list!!! 📝💕 I LOVE hearing what you guys want MORE of on this channel - thanks so much for the suggestion!! 🥰💚
Lisa!! My name twin!!! 😉🤣 Comments like these just warm my heart - THANK YOU!!! 👏🏼💕 Truly don't know what I'd do without this AMAZING community!! Thank you so much for tuning in and including me in your Saturday plans!!! 😘💚🤗
Seeing someone recommend fiddle leaf fig as a #1 no-brainer makes me itch nervously. On the other hand, if the plant in question is faux, then I'm totally okay with that advice.
I said to my husband that if the FLF showed up at #1 I just didn’t know what I was going to do...then...there it was. Without a doubt this is not a no-brainer plant. 😂
Phew. I thought I was delusional for a moment. It’s probably great for staging a place, ie where you don’t have to worry about its long-term survival, and is a decor magazine and insta favorite, but it is quite...umm...fiddly.
Just bought a Fiddle Leaf Fig yesterday. I actually heard they are tricky but am taking a chance. Looking forward to incorating more...one at time. The nake and the jade you suggested look great.
Hey Erin, congratulations! I’ve had great luck with fiddle leaf fig‘s, the one thing they definitely don’t like is being moved. So make sure once you get it settled that it stays in the same place, then it’s happy camper city🤣👍🏻😘❤️❤️
Oooh Patty!!! Great call - what a beautiful little tree!!!! 💕🤩 I am LOVING getting all of you guys' favorite plant suggestions...I learn so much in these comments!! 🥰💚 Thank you so much for sharing your know-how, and thank you for being a part of my channel fam!!!!! 😘😘

OMG yes - great point!!! 👏🏻👏🏻 I know I am SO guilty of this one...I get a LITTLE too excited with my watering can sometimes!!! 😂💚 LOVE this fun fact about my FAV, the ZZ plant - thank you so much for sharing!!!! 🥰💕 I love learning from you guys!! 😋
As a girl, I was taken for tea in the elegant Palm Court at the Plaza Hotel in N.Y.C. The all white room, with huge, green palm trees was so stunning; that it had a life-time effect on my decorating. Green always seems so "clean", especially when it is combined with white. My interiors and exteriors are always white walls, with only green accents in shutters, doors, sofas, chairs, paintings, lampshades, etc. Different greens easily mix well together ; just as they do in nature. Plus a plants' green color is intensified by and relates to the green of my accent decor. I always place a green plant in front of a green painting or a lamp with a green lampshade, in order to "enlarge" the size of the green plant. Bonus: I do not have to "decorate" artificially for xmas, since the rooms are the holiday green and white already. I have read that the color green is so attractive, because it is the only color that both energizes and calms at the same time. That makes sense, since green is a combination of blue (calming) and yellow (energizing).
OMG Anneli!! Right back at you girl!!! 🥰🥰 Chatting with my channel fam is always the highlight of my week...you guys are always making my day with your sweet comments!! 💙🌟 Thank you SO much for dropping in to design brunch this week and saying hi - see you next week!!!! 😘💕
Dear Ms Lisa, You just brought SUMMER into our homes! And what to say about places we are so shy to bring plants to....not enough sun? Here we go!!! Because of YOU! You are the green giant in my life!!! (ah ah ah ) !! Thank you so much (and thank you to Bob!!! ;) you are so charming! I love your imagination! I am going to get into your email list...hope it works! Tata from Quebec that loves you!! :))
Helene!!! I am SOO pumped for summer, I just had to get you guys excited with the outdoor video AND this plants video!! ☀️🪴😎 Makes me so happy you guys are LOVINGGG this video, we have a lot of plant lovers here!!! 😍 Hahaha I am ALWAYS here to help you guys out with your plant dilemmas, especially for people who don't take the best care of them (*cough cough* me)😉🤣 YAYYY thank you so so SO much for this sweet comment, you are going to LOVEE all the fun things coming soon!!! 🥰❤️ Sending love alll the way to Quebec!!! 😘🇨🇦💕💕💕
I love all the plants you showcased, thank you, Lisa! I have several of them already, but that monstera is one I've been wanting for a long time. I also love heart-leaf philodendron and find it easy to grow. I love the hammered metal pot from West Elm you linked and was thinking it would be perfect for a philodendron or pathos. Maybe even for Bob lol! 💕
OMG Connie I will HAVE to check out this philodendron - I am ALWAYS looking for ideas to add to my list of Lisa-proof plants!!! 😂❤️ And I totally think Bob would look SO handsome in that West Elm planter pot!!! 👏🏻🌵 How can you go wrong with that FABULOUS piece, right?? 🤩🤩 SO glad I could show off a few of my absolute favorite plants and swap tips with you guys in the comments this week - thank you so much for tuning in!! 🥰💙
OMG Betty this is a great suggestion!!!! 👏🏻💕 Longest bloom in the world?? 🤯 Sign me UP!! 🤩 I am always looking for more ideas to add to my Lisa-proof plant list - thanks for pointing me in the right direction!!! 😘💙
The Golden Pothos can also root and grow in water. Just take some clippings from your plant and place it in water. I cut the clipping on an angle. Once it roots in water it must stay in water. If you try to plant it in soil it will die.
Oooh Sandy that is so cool!!! 💕🤩 Plants without dirt?? Sign me up!!! 😂🌟 I'm having SO much fun learning from you plant enthusiasts in these comments...thanks for sharing this little tutorial!! I'm totally going to have to try this!! 👏🏻💚
Funny that you consider the Snake plant for modern decor. I always think of it as a grandma plant since mine had them everywhere. They don't die, but they can get dry edges. Just cut off the dry dead-looking leaves. The plant doesn't mind.
DeLaine!!! 👏🏻💕 When I think of snake plants, the first thing that comes to MY mind is modern decor...but the cool thing is that they really can be used in ANY style you want!!! 🤩🌱 It's ALL up to you! ❤️ LOVE this tip about what to do if your plant is starting to look a little bit unhappy...thank you so much for sharing your knowledge!!! 🥰💚
You are SO right Aisling!! 🤗 Who knew that adding plants can include so much life into your space?! Makes all the difference!! 🙌🏼💚 These are also my FAVE glasses right now, so chic!!! 👓💕 Thank you so much for this kind comment and for watching!!! 😘💖🤩
Thanks for the post...edging towards a real plant but I'm a black thumb too so I was watching and hoping to find something I could manage. Love the second plant 🤩
Oooh Pammy!!! 😂😂 I don't do so well with plants either...but I'm sure you'll be able to get one of these guys to work for you!!! 💕👏🏻 If I can do it anyone can - let me know how it goes!!! 🥰💚

Aren't fiddle leaf figs extremely temperamental? If that's even an appropriate word, lol. I heard they were difficult to maintain. I want one! But I'd probably kill it.
IMHO, fiddle leaf figs are not worth the effort although they are absolutely beautiful when healthy. I purchased the moisture meter and special FLF fertilizer and my plant got spider mites and didn’t survive. I might try the FLF again one day but only if I have nothing to do but coddle a plant......
Yeah, they actually need a ton of light. They also need well draining soil and are often under watered because people are so afraid of over watering. I bought one thinking it would be great in a corner across from the window. Next thing you know, I’ve rearranged the whole living room in the most hideous way so she could sit right in front of the window.
I love cacti and succulents 😍😍😍😍😍. I recently added a snake plant into my bedroom and I am loving it 😍. I want to add the fiddle leaf plant to our living/ dinning room next. I am not good with plants, but in the last 2 years I have had more indoor plants than ever before 🤷 maybe the pandemic has had an influence on how I want my space to feel 🤷😉
Ana!!! That is SUCH a good point - I think the pandemic has totally changed how people think about their homes!!! 💙💙 We all had to get SUPER comfortable in our own space this year...it makes sense that it would change how we feel about design!! 👏🏻👏🏻 I LOVE that you've been excited about adding plants to your space lately - totally designer approved!!! 💕🤩
YAY Maria!!! 💚💚👏🏻 Me too - adding plants to a space is one of my all time favorite design tips!! 🤩🤩🌱 So glad I could share a couple of my favs...thank you so much for watching!!! 🥰💕

Oh Yin, I just LOVE reading these types of comments - they just make my DAY!!! 🥰🙌🏼 Can you tell how much fun I'm having with these videos?!?! Probably from all the coffee I have, let's be honest!! 🤣☕️ Thank you so much for this sweet comment, truly means the WORLD to me!!! 🌎😘💚
Love love love❤
FYI, your Instagram link isn’t working...Or maybe it’s an issue w/ my mobile device.
Lisa, you left out the wonderful and easy to care for bamboo plant. They can grow straight, or curled...etc.
Can you do Entryways, small entryways in particular AND duel-purpose rooms?
OR... can you do an episode where you advise which interior design goes with which exterior. For example, mid-century modern interior design wouldn’t look right in an old Victorian or super modern in a farmhouse. 😬
I have a 1940’s bungalow and wondering what’s the proper interior style.
@@LisaHoltDesign Green thumbs are not that difficult to cultivate. 😂 Once you killed like a 100 plants, you probably know what NOT to do after.
I wondered about that...I have killed many a plant with poor drainage :P
My secret weapon for plants is not to take them out of their original container. My plant shop told me that and it works. My Fiddle Leaf, after 5 years is about 7 feet tall.
Hey Guys! Join me Saturday May 22nd for my premier of my very special video! I'll be LIVE chatting before the launch and I hope to see you guys there!
Hi Lisa,
I live in UK, my husband was qualified interior designer/architect. He died 15 years ago, so you can imagine that watching you brings back all of what he used to advise. Even this video about plants is part of design. You forgot the aspidistra, a plant very popular in Victorian times which is virtually indestructible.
Best wishes,
JS
Awww JS what a wonderful way to remember a loved one! ❤️❤️ Design can be so healing - I'm so glad I can bring back some happy memories! Thanks for sharing one of your fav indoor plants - I'm always looking for more!!! 🥰💕
Safe if you have a cockatiel.

I would like to add the String of Hearts and Chinese Evergreen. They're very easy, happy, and grow like crazy.
Yes Chinese Evergreens are awesome!
I have to admit: I'm not really into design, but I adore her voice.
Me too , I can watch even if she talks about poop ;d
I agree, such great energy!!
I have purchased several faux plants/trees and they look great! We travel a lot so no worries about watering, etc.
SUCH an amazing approach!!! 👏🏼 Faux plants are definitely a life-saver for those who don't always have the time to take care of plants!!! And most of the time they look EXACT to the real ones!!! 😍🪴 Thank you so much for sharing this and for watching!!! 💗💗
Most of these need more light than I have in my apartment but pothos, zz, dracaenas, and pilea are thriving on my neglect
Life is happier with plants and flowers. Thank you.
It’s another rainy night in Dallas. Nice night to sit in a comfy chair with all four of my chihuahuas under the blanket and watching our favorite designer!
I am in Dallas also, but only have 3 chihuahuas! They are like Lay's, can't have just one!
I’m in Dallas too! But I got pugs.

The Snake Plant comes from Africa. In native African language, its name means "Mother-In-Law's Tongue". It is really hard to kill.
OMG Melody now THIS is a fun fact!!! 😆😆 Can't say it doesn't make sense!!! 😂❤️ I learn SO much in these comments - thanks for sharing!! 💚😘
They need a special variety with razor blade edges to match my ex-mother-in-law’s tongue. For reference: my daughters call their grandparents He Devil and She Devil. It’s not just me who sees their “special” qualities. ;-)
😳🤣
@@LisaHoltDesign yes, we called it mother-in-law's tongue in England too.
@@angelabacker1177 yes we do :)
I’m a Designer....my partner laughs because I never leave a room without adding “ some greens”.
I’m a huge fan, Lisa!
A touch of green is definitely needed in every space.
YES Shenell!!! 🥰💕 I love decorating with plants - they bring such a fabulous bit of life to a space!!! 🤩🤩 I've been having so much fun hearing about everybody's plant friends in the comments - thank you so much for chiming in!!! 💚

@@LisaHoltDesign Thank you so much Lisa for such amazing reply, you've just my day - again! :)
Best, JT
Joan!!! I had NO idea about this, thank you for sharing this!! 👏🏼 You learn something new every day I guess!! 😆💜
Zz plants are indestructable! seriously. They can grow in the dark (although sunlight is ok too) and hardly ever need watering.

If you are in the US ask if they are NKBA certified. There is so many snags in kitchens that can be avoided when a designer works to NKBA standards ! You are less likely to have draws that interfere with each other and tight uncomfortable spaces with to many work centers crammed together
Lisa, you are a fabulous designer, thank you for helping us, non designers make our house looks great!
Thank you so much! You’re so kind! ❤️🥰
I've got a Fiddle leaf fig, a Bob and a croton plant. It made my space look AmAzING. Plants do so much for decor.

I love this week’s video! I always considered my plants one of my greatest decor assets but you made me realize they deserve better pots and planters.
OMG Hoki I TOTALLY get this!!! 😂🌱 Plants can be a challenge!!! 👏🏻💕 I LOVE that you never give up - go get that citrus!!!! 🤩🍊
My ZZ plant has been wonderful, so has my pothos. My mother-in-law’s make plants are 20 years old and are about 5 ft tall!!
HOLY cow Claire!!! I want whatever water you're giving your plants!!! 🤣🤣❤️
Plants, rugs, window coverings, tile I’ve been paying attention/ I have giant jades, aloes, and growing spices
Almost.... there everyone! So excited to see everyone
Lisa I just need your help on Everything I have an empty home and just lost 😞 on what to do. Painting colors that works for my home, the styling am looking for, and not wanting to make any mistakes. Thanks for All you give

Just hang in there a little longer!.
I hired a designer years ago in Dallas. We went to a designer fabric store and she asked what I liked and inspires me. I pick a botanical in colors that I loved. From there. I picked wall paper and paint colors throughout the house. You can do it. You just need a starting place. Go!
Yes, yes, yes. Plants plants, plants. They make me happy. I have all the once’s you showed Liza. In PR its easy to have each one, always is summer
Oh wow then.... YOU WILL LOVE TODAYS VODEO! Welcome!!!!! XOXOXO
Lisa.. you're awesome! Love your energy!
AWW thank you so much JL!!! 💗 Can you tell how much fun I have while filming these videos?!?! I can be pretty nutty at times! 🤪😂 Thank you so much for your kind words, and hope you have a fabulous weekend!! 😘🌟💚
I love when you say ubiquitous
I'm lucky to be working in tropical greenhouses all winter, especially since where i live is so cold! (Québec Can.)
The secret is DRAINAGE: Roots need to breathe air otherwise they rot. Therefore the soil can't remain water saturated. It's VERY important to always empty the remaining water in the pot holder after watering.
In fall, when days are getting shorter, you can almost stop watering, especially the succulents;
As soon as the days start to get longer, water normally, every two weeks;
If you put your plants outside during the summer, then you can water them every day and give 20-20-20 liquid fertilizer (every 2 weeks or very dilluted each time.) No fertilizer during fall and early spring. Wait for the growing season.
The spider plant is another easy to care for option and it's pet friendly as well
Sharon!! Thank you so much for sharing this - A TON of you guys are looking for pet-friendly options!!! 😍🙌🏼
Love plants inside and outside!!!I had a Jade for fifteen years. It was amazing! It had just bloomed for the second year!It takes a long time till they do.I was cleaning the room it was in,put it on the porch. We had a frost and it died.I was so upset!!Wah!😺
OMG to both parts.
I planted a piece of one from my mom, hers are about 50 yrs. old. Mine has been growing for about 20 years and died after we had our house tented for termites. I tried saving it, but it just couldn't make it.
@@cynthias.3970 That sucks!!!
@@rtd1791 You are indeed the voice of experience!
@@rtd1791 that is why my mom doesn't have any plants on the floor her chocolate labs tails would beat them to death to!
I would highly recommend a non-blooming bird of paradise. I often see these in model homes. I have one and I love it!
Ooo I LOVE this Trish!!! 👏🏼 You guys are literally the BEST with sharing plant suggestions, I definitely am taking notes for my home!!! 📝🤣 Thank you SO MUCH for sharing this and for supporting the channel!!! 💚🌟🪴
Why do you rd on end non-blooming over blooming?
FIREPLACES: Would love to see a video on fireplace trends!
You are such a hoot Lisa! Love your videos.
This lol! FLFs are so picky, and so prone to dropping all their leaves at a change.
Creative decor.. dont forget the olive tree. Great info lisa.

Good Morning Beautiful.....just made my expresso and waiting for Ms Holt. You were missed last Saturday!
Hey there Bart you handsome thing you!!!!! Love your Icon!!! ALWAYS love your comments :)
I missed orchids in this video. I absolutely love them, I think they look very modern and beautiful and they are really easy to care for.
HOW IN THE HECK did I forget them?!?!?! Thanks so much for mentioning them.... I love them too! xoxoxo
I love your personality. You crack me up and bring me joy. Plus you know your stuff! Love it.
Most house plants die from over watering btw. The ZZ is called Zamioculcas zamiifolia hence the nickname.
Always GREAT to see you!! 💖xxx

Sandy G. Why will it die?
In fact it may even make it lean more towards the sunlight 🥰
You and Bob were hilarious
Plants are a great addition so lovely for you to include them, enough about that......those glasses 😍😍😍🤣

Aren't fiddle leaf figs extremely temperamental? If that's even an appropriate word, lol. I heard they were difficult to maintain. I want one! But I'd probably kill it.
They can get root rot if watered too much . Get a water meter!
@@brendaindallas9880 I hear ya. Got zero time for plant coddlin!
@@brendaindallas9880 i have a plastic fiddle leaf plant 180cm tall. I wipe it down once a week.
