Yeah but I still love the lore and think it’s low key underrated, most people keep on shitting on it only because they think doom traditionally shouldn’t have an in depth story because well.... it’s doom and all they want to do is run and gun like an arena shooter, but why can’t it have a good in depth story? I most certainly enjoyed the story for doom eternal and the true origin of the doom slayer as well as all the codex entry’s on the knight sentinels, ARC, how dr Hayden is a actually a maykr etc.
@Jonathan Shepherd I dont remember it ever outright saying hes a makyr in the game or in a codex but it is heavily implied that he is the Seraphim Makyr. Probably something they'll reveal officially in the plot of the next game or maybe even dlc for this one
One thing this game's "story telling through words" established for me, confirming it even more so than 2016 in my eyes, was that the Demons are utterly terrified of the Slayer. A being alien to them, with God-like strength, speed and fury. The infinite lesser Demons spawning into the arena can be seen as a mere nuisance in what would otherwise be a one-on-one boss battle, but once you delve deeper into the *DOOM* lore, and find out how the Slayer got his title, and how the Demonic hordes came to fear him the way they do to this day, it gives rise to another possible perspective for the player: *Even Hell's mightiest creatures, the supposed pinnacles of power of this race of interdimensional conquerors, who have consumed countless worlds in the past, ARE TOO AFRAID to face the Slayer in single combat, choosing to rely on lesser Demons to create openings for them to attack this green armored monster that THEY are currently fighting.* A dual sided mechanic. One for the Boss to get to attack you without the constant deaththreat of staring into a Super Shotgun barrel, and a way for you to mix up the gameplay loop a little with some chainsaw pinata action. Thank you for listening to my TED talk.
I don't get the hate for the marauder, everytime he shows up it's a highlight for me. Taking the whole game up a notch, he could've shown up earlier. Supershotgun, Balista. rinse and repeat
@@dominickchuka5387 I never used that combo, it isn't "essential," even on Nightmare. However, I still managed fine, so it's just people not understanding how to fight him
Lucky Rice The first time I fought him was ridiculous. I couldn’t fight him. Compared to the last time I fought him, I was ashamed. They’re actually really easy to fight.
Doom Eternal has some great boss fights. Doom Eternal’s story isn’t confusing and doesn’t make you lost without the codex, it tells your everything you need to know and the codex is just more on top of that. I don’t think the enemies took away from the gladiator boss, since they are just there.
and even if the enemies take away from the bossfight. the super shotties chain should mitigate the most of that as you can be done with them in a second and move on focussing on the boss
Kelis 98 it is confusing for most people. Even playing through doom 2016 and reading all the codexs. The first half is mildly confusing. Who is the makyr? How did doom guy get to the fortress of doom. What has he been doing since 2016 doom. It’s not the most confusing thing in the world, but there are some questions that go unanswered.
Icon of Sin is the ultimate execution of the idea that started with a wall-face started in Doom 2, as if '90s Id had a modern engine to work with. One of my favorite boss battles of all time.
By the lat stage its so intense because of the fucking cacodemons and pinkys lol its fun though you get to abuse the crucible which was a lot of fun because we got it so late
I must be in the minority, but I found the Icon of Sin boss painfully dull and tedious. It was a long slog of "run around and shoot the huge thing." OKAY, maybe I'm just bitter because they spent the whole game teasing me by showing all these big mechs, and then make the final boss a big-ass titan, but don't let me drive a giant mech suit to fight it. 0/10!
Exactly, I never even had a hard time with him. Use the Ballista and kill him in 6 shots. Eyes go green, shoot-stun-shoot. Do that 3 times and you'll blow him to pieces. The guy in the video sucks at the game. Mind you he was playing on NORMAL and having that much of a hard time..
I completely agree with you, while at times i grit my teeth in frustration (i'm kinda bad) that he is hard, after every time i beat him i revel in, is he hard YES, but is he fun, also yes, hes harder than the doom hunter, faster than the icon of sin, but smaller than all of them making him a doom demon, Hugo martin (not word for word but implied) made the marauder the doom slayer of demon kind, and when you fight him you feel like how a demon feels after they killed the doom slayer
People who complain about the Marauder usually just complain about his difficulty. Instead of saying what they are doing wrong look at yourself and then you’ll see why blasting the plasma rifle at him is a dumb fuck idea
bruh my man complaining about marauder while I'm over here being able to defeat the marauder with careful movement and balancing the ammo, health, and shield. Not to mention that he is on PC, I'm on PS4. He shouldn't be complaining about the marauder when he himself doesn't understand the doom dance.
Yea, these people aren't as good as they think they are and it bothers them so therefore it must be the game designs fault. I literally had no problem with the Marauder or how he played. His eyes go green, shoot with the ballista-stun-shoot again, do that 3 times and he's dead. I died more times from the Doom Hunter than I did the Marauder.
A huge issue I have is most people don’t understand the Marauder fight. Firstly, his dog only spawns when his shield is hit (either by you or other demons). It is a punishment for wasting ammo. Secondly it isn’t like his eyes never flash green. There isn’t some magical middle zone to sit in, you run away and bait him to run after you, when in which he is vulnerable. It isn’t a bad enemy, people just don’t know how he works
The Marauder was HARD when I first fought him, but every subsequent time I gained experience with his moveset and it got easier and easier. It was never truly easy to deal with but bareable is the best description. I can appreciate the difference in his design and how he links to the slayer but man... the dog, the shield... FUUUUCK!
Scorpio McClymont every time I heard him spawn I ran until everything else was dead but when he’s chasing you he takes so much health he body blocks you with the dash and dog can body block as well he’s just scary and exactly what Hugo wanted was accomplished
I really think the shield is the worst part. Every other shield in this game and in Doom 2016 can be overpowered, so to make one that can block supers is just going way overboard in my opinion. If you ask me, something has to give for this fight to feel fair: either let me overpower the shield in some way so that I can use my supers on him, (seriously, I went through the work to get the unmaker!) make him have a longer tell like Dmod said, or let me fight him one on one. I think they almost had something with this enemy, but in my opinion it takes me too far out of the "Doom tango" to be fun.
Really not much has changed. He’s still nothing but a guy who lives for spilling demon blood and ransacking hell, his new backstory just introduces more characters to expand the universe and gives him more reason for hating hell so much besides the fact that they killed his rabbit and he’s a hardcore Catholic
@@dyno9973 hmm. Well oddly enough, when I played it on nightmare on my first playthrough, I thought it was useless. Until I got into that fiery pit with all of those demons and began using it more. It soon became my favorite because of how versatile it is. You can kill doom hunters with this gun alone.
Also it’s really not that hard to catch on to Doom Eternals Story. Plus if it’s not your thing you can skip it but it was great for the people who love the character and this universe
Agreed, the "lack of traditional storytelling" in 2016 is what caused me to be indifferent to it at times, like yeah killing hordes of demons is good fun but if there's no explicit reason or big enough stakes what's the point? In Eternal you feel like an unstoppable legend because of the way the other characters react to you and the way the story explicitly tells you that you are all that stands in the way of the extinction of humanity.
Learning you’re playing as the og doomguy and he’s nearly literally a demon killing god and learning about the history of hell, sentinels, and even the introduction of the maykers makes the game way better. A way to auto skip cutscenes and making the unskippable cutscenes would be really appreciated though
Fun fact: the icon of sin in eternal was the developers wanted In doom 2 but couldn’t due technology limitations. Now? We are fighting the Icon’s true form. And I can’t help but to feel like he’s pissed at us. Not the slayer US! Considering we humiliated him, it’s understandable
I get what you mean, he hates other mob on some bosses and the requirement to use chainsaw.. but on another boss he's fine with it.. HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM
Yeah i mean the marauder is the easiest boss to fight in the game, you just need to learn the mechanics, just watching this dude pull out these stupid arguments for losing while showing gameplay where he fails to dodge 4 times, and misses 3 easy shots is just sad
@@manoa8415 yeah that was so fucking weak, watching him try to run away with his back turned was hilarious, then watching him just beef shots/shoot at him for no reason was worse. I played my first runthrough on ultraviolence and genuinely didn't understand the hype around him. He's definitely a potent enemy in a group cause of the focus he commands but that was honestly really fun (and still easy to deal with. Run away and kill everything else first). I genuinely can't imagine struggling against him in his introduction/a 1 on 1
@@vegitoblue3613 He is being a bit of a dickhead about it, but I don't disagree. I mean, this dude was literally out here saying that the Marauder was the worst enemy in Eternal. That's just sad, honestly. Just look at his gameplay, he barely uses any guns other than the Plasma Rifle and Super Shotgun.
@Nikzedik How many comments have you replied under to complain that he isn't good enough for your standards? I agree that he's not an expert at this game, and maybe relies too much on plasma rifle, but you seem to have some kind of bone to pick with him. He did say this was a blind playthrough, and he says in multiple videos that he's learned things from twitch chat that he never knew. Being a "casual" isn't a bad thing. Most of the audience for video games in general are casual. We can't all be speedrunners at every game we play.
Why are people complaining about cutscenes they don’t last long and they also give you a little break and they give the game a little more story the game shouldn’t be constant action non stop
Because they're litteraly a bunch of bellands. The lore for Doom Eternal was the best in any Doom game. It really added a great story. People are dumb and want just some simple dumb dumb shoot shoot and don't want brain to work. That's why he's complaining about the Marauder because with that fight you actually have to have a brain and he doesn't want "brain to work >:("
bcs story, cutscenes and same fucking animation for picking energy core have NO place in DOOM game. DOOM is supposed to be CONSTANT action, always was and always shoud be,it seems bad in this one,bcs game puke so many trash mechanics, that it makes combat actualy boring after a few hours. Game lack FLOW and its mega noticable in all trash BOSSES where you have to litarly stop killing and wait for green light to pop.... WHAT THE FK.
The Icon of Sin is definitely the best for me. I love how the game has been teaching you little by little its mechanics, making you understand that each weapon has its pros and cons and that they all come to be your answer to whatever a big fight throws at you, with bigger and tougher enemies being more common as you progress through the levels. And it all leads to the Icon of Sin fight, where throughout its two phases you are attacked by hell knights, mancubus, revenants, barons, pain elementals, whiplashes, almost the entire roster, which keeps you on your toes while you fight the Icon. What's more, it's not unfair either due to the arena providing you with multiple resources in the form of megahealth spheres, regenerating blood punch and crucible pick-ups, and multiple jump pads to fully use the map's verticality. Finally, it's even more special to me as a fan of the OG Doom games, where the original Icon of Sin was just an environmental hazard that spawned enemies, it's nice to see how far our goat boi has got.
I don't know man.... in the first half I kept getting knocked off the arena. It was really disorienting and I could barely tell wtf was happening half the time.
delicious LSD Honestly. Doom is a game. Animal Crossing is in the same category as Sims. Yeah it’s a “game” but it doesn’t even deserve to be in the same medium as other games.
"Ranking Doom bosses" Are we forgetting something?, Doomguy is the only true boss in every Doom game, the demons are the ones hearing boss music when he's around.
I guess it’s just me, but I found the Marauder “boss” fight to be extremely fun. It was the first time I was introduced to an enemy as fast as I was, and that forced me to change pace in what I think is a good way. Instead of my typical shoot-scoot-loot dance, I was on my toes, reacting to every little movement he made with three of my own. I spent most of that fight blasting rockets and shotgun-grenades at him, wildly dashing around the arena, taking my eyes off him only long enough to finish the chainsaw/glory kill animation. It felt like a deadly dance between two beings that both far surpassed even the greatest of demons. It’s worth noting that I had my tutorials turned off the whole game, so I didn’t know about his “green eye flash opening” until I had already beat him and found him again in the enemy rotation, but that’s mostly because I wasn’t paying attention for tell-tale signs and was too focused on out-dancing my partner. Personally I’d give the Marauder a 4 out of 5 in quality as a “boss”, and a 3 out of 5 as an enemy. Edit since I somehow forgot about it: I didn’t have too much of a problem with the Wolf, since I was constantly using explosives, but I did find the Wolf to be a nice way to keep the player on their toes even while trying to put distance between you and the Marauder in the later incarnations of him, if not a little on the weak side since only a few plasma rifle shots decimated it.
i know it's a bit overused but like in soulsborne sekiro and thats the reason why i like this boss but only the battle i hated every fight where this enemy type was used
No, I think that the Marauder is a good boss, but I think it is one that you need to understand the the princpiles of the gameplay in order to beat it. Additonally, the Marauders serve as an interesting foil towards the Doom Slayer in a gameplay fashion. Most enemies are either fast strikers with weak health or heavy tanks that can be dodged easily. However, the Marauders are defensive fighters meant to engage duel-like combat for the Slayer, which is an interesting counter as the latter is more inclided to an offensive focus in combat.
If this enemy was in dark souls, people would be praising it. I think people did not expect “mindless” doom to end up kicking their teeth in. As for the dog, I love it. It keeps you on your toes and forces you to change your strategy.
I love the fact that the marauder fight is kind of Bloodborne-ish. You dodge each other's attacks and you must parry him when you see that green flash. Once you did that he is vulnerable and open to punish. He is much, much harder to deal with when there are tons of demons around and he demands your attention like the girl you forgot to call. It takes practice, but the fight can be trivial if you parry him with the Super Shotgun and switch to the Ballista and back. Repeat it and he is done for. Or parry him with the Super Shotgun and melt him with the Unmaykr once you have it. It can kill him less than 5 seconds. I'm not even sure that's the intended design and it is a good design or not at all. The one reliable strategy to kill him effectively is to cheese the hell out of him as fast as possible. At the very least he can be a worthy opponent.
I think the marauder could be an absolutely classic video game enemy if they just made his shield possible to temporarily disable in some way. With his shield being completely invulnerable except during the super small counter window I feel like he kills the flow of combat until he is dealt with. Especially when he walks around arenas with it up and just sends his dog after you. An idea I've heard some people offer is to have the blood punch disable his shield for a short time, while leaving all of his other combat capabilities the same, or like demod said, increase the counter opening, dump the dog, up damage a bit and lower health just a tad
I think they should have allow you to break his shield with the plasma gun and make his attacks slower. That way you could actually be offensive against him with the plasma gun and then react when he attacks by switching to the SSG to stun him instead of just waiting for him to attack you. Though it is true that it would make him a bit too similar to the Doomhunter at least he'd suit Eternal's pace more
i think he should have better tells tho. i mean his sword beam is real fast and his shotgun is faster then light (im fine with the shotty tho as you arent even supposed to get close enough for it to trigger
He doesn't deserve that attention when there's multiple demons around. He deserves the amount of attention that a sjw asks for while screaming your a pig. Murder them all then use him like a sex toy after a hard days work
I remember when I first fought the murader, i was so angry with the difficulty insisting that it was unfair. Then over time I learned HOW to fight him, the "Doom Dance" as Hugo Martin puts it, and he slowly became my favourite enemy!
People say that, but for me when the marauder shows up the "Doom Dance" stops and the "Repetitive Marauder two-step" begins. Before you get the timing down the marauder is frustrating, after you figure it out the marauder is boring and annoying. I'm glad other people enjoy it though.
@@neganick Enjoy him or not, at least you know how to destroy the Marauder, which I can respect. Better than the guy in the vid who whines about the Marauder being too hard.
You talked about Doom Slayer not needing a backstory but this game barely gave him one. The only thing we really learn is that the Doom Slayer is actually the same character as Doom Guy from the original games which is just fan service.
i completely agree, this dude doesn’t even understand how amazing this game really is with all the development in the story and gameplay that the bosses introduce, all this guy thinks about is the fact the bosses and the story stops him from ripping and tearing. he’s trash asf if that’s the way he wants to play a perfect game, then he can rot in hell. i’m pissed at this video
@@melkope6494 not gonna lie dude same boat I see a lot of people complain about the Marauder but at least it was something new to the franchise and story and codex for some lore if you do read were pretty cool. Some bosses were alright tho overall good doom game.
‘Enemies take away from the boss fight’ And in first place, The Icon of Sin! The least difficult boss in the game where you’re fighting mobs more! Wow what a genius
Easiest? I found Khan, hunters, and the gladiator far easier. And I think the distinction is that the enemies feel like they should be there for the Icon fight. With Khan and the gladiator it felt like a 1v1 that was ruined with extra variables from the encounter design philosophy, but with the Icon it felt like there should be more enemies. I mean after all, it is the final encounter of the game, and a boss that leaves you in an empty arena because it’s literally separate from it would feel very weird being the only enemy there.
The icon is so frustaiting. His attacks left you with 30 hp even if you have the maximum armor and health... And that is with one punch. Even the gladiator and khan maykr is easier than the icon.
How in the hell did you people struggle with the icon there is RESPAWNING CRUCIBLE AMMO any enemy causing trouble ex. Cyber m. Pain elemental can just be ont shotted and then boom no struggle the fodder is just that fodder even on nightmare just don't stand still the icons attacks are stupid telegraphed what could you possibly struggle with multi tasking?
I had the most trouble with the Gladiator to be honest. Despite having the “green eyes” Telegraph, I think the rest of his attacks that lack the telegraph are very hard to avoid, as they are very very fast. This is in the second stage of the fight, primarily, as he’s much more aggressive and challenging to keep an eye on. Especially considering the fact that he’ll summon heavy demons like the hell knight and it’s pretty challenging to keep focus on damaging the boss and getting the necessary resources while you’ve got the pressure demons attacking you. On top of this, the arena is pretty small, so you’ve only got so much room to maneuver. I love the boss fight though, the music is blood boiling in a great way and the lore of the boss is pretty amazing too. I by no means think it’s a bad boss, just really hard to pay attention to.
I fought him on Ultra Violence and died no times, here’s a tip, when his eyes flash green, shoot him with the Heavy Cannon’s Precision Scope, instant stagger.
Another massive tip is that you can avoid having to deal with the green eye Telegraphs if you just use explosive weapons to the side of the marauders shield especially if you have upgraded your shotgun sticky bombs damage radius
"Marauder needs nerfing..." The Marauder is a twisted, demonic mirror of The Slayer; he's designed to be able to go toe to toe with you, and possesses the tools to do so. His shield is the immovable object to your unstoppable force. He nullifies damage in the same way you can with glory kills and chainsaws. His high speed is a means of not just demanding your attention, but forcibly taking it. Ignoring The Marauder is like finding demons in-fighting; they make for easy kills because their attention isn't directed at the more immediate threat in the room. His wolf is a method of punishing you for not acknowledging the previous statements. He only spawns his wolf when you either attack while his guard is up, or refuse to engage him. Just like how the demons have to respect your presence and play by your rules, so too must you respect the Marauder's presence and play by his rules.
Yeah, and you shouldn't nerf a single player game anyway. If it's too hard, *oh fucking well.* It's a boss fight, it's meant to be hard, so that your skill can beat it. This guy makes me sick, whining for 20 minutes about how he doesn't like how the hard demons are hard.
@@xerorgg we all know it's his opinion but the way he talks about it makes me and many others feel like he hasn't gotten a good feel for the game yet. And so some of us including myself, get mad that some people put out such opinions because they don't like the way this thing is (murader in this case) and ruin it for all of us by demanding nerfs for a single player game.
I normally keep him in check while fighting other demons . Like he's (for me) one of the easiest demons to 1v1 and slightly harder with other demons. Like I played in ultra violence difficulty. And honestly I love the marauder . It's such an awesome fight with him each he pops up. I actually get sad when I take one out to early with getting constant head shots with my ballistic/shotgun combo
I remember hearing about how hard the marauder is, but when I finally got the game for my birthday, I died maybe twice on the first encounter. He’s no cake walk but the super shotgun and ballista work like a charm against him
The Icon of sin was by far one of the best final bosses I've faced. The absolute horror of fighting this huge demon made me shiver in excitement, on top of all the ammo pickups for your sword and chainsaw. Makes you feel like the true Doomslayer in the end
4 Bored Guys all of the heavy demons become straight fodder due to the sword, they get taken out so quick that they almost stop being a threat allowing u to focus on the icon of sin, at that point I felt like thats what the doomslayer was like in his prime when all the legends were written about him and we got to experience a taste of that power at the tail end of the game
I agree, the gladiator for me felt total bs, on nightmare his attacks basically one shot you and they are near impossible to dodge, Kahn maykr was way to easy because of the insane amount of health you get from the drones, and the other two didn’t even feel like bosses
The Gladiator is super easy, what do you mean? Icon of Sin just takes a year to fucking kill. Marauder should never exist, Khan Makyr is just rush to yeet it's HP Doom Hunter's you can get used to.
The point of doom is to have fun being a powerful God of anger. The only people who dis on those who like to set it on easy are those who want to validate spending so much time getting gud.
Khan was a joke honestly. All you have to do is use the lock on rocket launcher mod and she's staggered in 3-6 bursts. Pair that with the drones being an infinite ammo supply and you have the biggest joke of the game. Talk about a 4 minute fight lmao. The game hyped her up to be some crazy final boss, but icon flexed on her and I kind of forgot she was even a fight after the Icon fight. 2/10 easiest boss
Spank Pempsey idk the icon fight was much easier in my opinion, due to the fact that you can literally just use the crucible the whole time to get health back, the only thing really making it all that hard is the fact that it’s an incredibly long fight where you’re bound to mess up at some point. The Kahn Makyr on the other hand deals a shit load of damage to you very quickly and yes ammo is basically infinite you do have to kill the drones careful and make sure you get glory kills on them to make sure you can charge your blood punch. Still, they’re both great fights imo
Before fighting her I had just realized earlier in the level that the Arbalest mod for the Ballista says that it does extra damage to flying enemies, so when I saw a big flying boss I decided to try it on her. It 4 shots her shield, and if you have the mastery, there's no downtime between charges so the fight just becomes: Find a safe spot, 1, 2, 3, 4, grapple, punch, ice bomb a drone, headshot, repeat 6 times. The nail in the coffin is that if the area under the middle bridge isn't on fire, you can use the bridge to just block most of her attacks while still decimating her. Fight is an absolute joke.
@@kevinmorales4405 I think they say on the perspective of Normal difficulties, on Normal she's quite easy to whoops ass, and of course in Nightmare even a got damn Hell Knight is difficult to kill

No, please don’t get rid of the dog. The marauder really is not difficult and honestly it was annoying hearing you whine about how he needs to be nerfed.
@@aarondev3218 Yeah, all the dog complainers also spray at his shield like theres no tomorrow. If i had to nerf him, i would have it all the same, but the dog takes its hp from him to spawn. Easing up a smidge on the uninitiated while still rewarding proper behavior against him. But that's just how i would do it. Or make his shield just mitigate 90% of damage he takes while it is up. That way, you can still beat him traditionally, but you aren't forced to. Just that you will hate yourself if you try that way.
At first I was also mad at the Marauder and found him way too difficult, until I found out how he works. Now he's pretty easy and goes down in about 20 seconds if you do it right. My only real complaint I have is that the hitboxes seem a little buggy... sometimes I shoot him when his eyes glow green and nothing happens. Then he just hits me and follows up with another attack right away. It really feels like my shots just go right through him sometimes.
OneDoomedAngelo you’re not wrong, that has happened to me too. The super shot gun pellets sometimes go through his body. It’s annoying but with the ballista that doesn’t usually happen.
The Icon Of Sin was the best bossfight in DOOM Eternal by far. The thing I loved most about it is something I don't often see people talking about, but like in the original Doom 2, the icon of sin was a massive bossfight that spawned in all the enemies that you'd encountered in the hours leading up to the finale. This fight felt like a straight modernisation of the classic fight, and could also be argued as a direct remake with how similar the two are. Like you mentioned as well, the blood punch and crucible refills made the supporting enemies so much better to fight, meaning you could focus way more on the icon himself and feel like a true bossfight. I just love this fight as it feels like a perfect blend of new, with the mechanics of eternal being in full force, and old with the fact that it's basically the same fight as all those years ago.
True. Whether or not you're fine with enemies showing up in the bossfights, the Icon's fight is definitely one where it makes sense to have them there.
I would actually disagree. IMO the Icon of sin was a disappointing boss fight. Yes I understand that the ads are part of the fight, but if that was supposed to be part of the fight why did they give us infinite crucible blade to kill all of the hard ads with? Yea you could choose not to use it but you are directly hindering yourself for doing it. Also I would not have cares as much with the ads if every one of the 8 body parts did not have sooooooooo much health. The boss is designed well but it felt less like a boss fight and more like a slayer gate with one really big and really annoying enemy to kill.
@Arick A4 I played through the game on ultra-Violence and it was disappointing for me still. I wanted to fight an awesome end boss not a bunch of ads that I can just use infinite crucible blade on.
also actually being able to use your sword. your sword that has ammo. you get to really use it twice in the entire game. When you first get it and there's limited pips spawned, and the final fight, where they're infinitely respawning along with full health and armor orbs, chainsaw fuel, and blood punch refills. Also two blood punches after Khan Maykr.

Alright, if you've got issues with the Marauder, consider the following: He is meant to punish you for messing up. Try to retreat, he'll chuck an axe. Get too close, have a super shotgun to the chest. And if you're dumb enough to shoot his shield, you're a big enough schmuck to get rekt by the dog. In all encounters involving him (boss encounter excluded), the marauder never spawns early. You need to control the battlefield before even considering taking him on. When it's time to beat his ass, kiting is the name of the game. Let him come to you, dodge an axe or two, and he won't be able to resist taking a swing. You punish those, and if you're quick, you can get another shot in. The marauder isn't easy, he's more than capable of killing you in a heartbeat, and he'll definitely wreck you if you don't pay attention- that's his thing. But if you know what he does, and when he does it, it becomes clear he's simply a skill check- do you really know the Doom Dance, boy?
Consider the following: He's not a doom enemy. He's closer to a souls enemy, where pattern recognition and timing are important. That goes against the very CORE of doom games, where positioning and movement is king.
@@senounatsuru6453 positioning and movement is an extremely important element of fighting the marauder. Know the arena so you can quickly move around it to avoid him, and position in a way where he has to come to you And pattern recognition is important in fighting other demons. With the Tyrant for example, you hear a very distinct auditory cue for one of his strongest attacks. If you don’t recognize that pattern of audio chances are you will get hit by it and punished for not recognizing the cue
@@diobrando9842 no you are right with the right angle you could wipe a whole arena with one shot but in the final sin mission it is really easy to miss bfg shots so that's why i used it there.
I use the plasma rifle for crowd control only if I'm facing off big demons though I tend to use the rocket launcher, super shotgun or ballista, and for bosses I use the minigun and mini rockets as they deal a ton fuck of damage
@Nikzedik dude ur signing below every comment that talks shit about democracy, prob just because he criticized a game u idolize way too much. He always said this is his opinion and not the objective truth so why be so fucking butthurt, you are legit fucking pathetic
@Nikzedik No I'm not a gaming channel nor do I intend on becoming one, I'm at a university I'm well happy with thank you very much. The reason why I would upload is I have some Friends that would enjoy watch me play overwatch, over time tho I started uploading stuff I found cool to keep as memory cause I wanted to keep it but not bloat my ps4 memory, I had a good bunch of ppl already ask me if I have a yt channel and I always say no. The fact ur judging and attacking me based on some shitty videos just further proves how much of a pathetic human scum you are and have no actual decent arguments to back up your claims, people are gonna have different opinions no matter how much you cry and bitch about it, get a life will ya
“Does Doomslayer really need a backstory” Do you really think that a man who is feared by the entirety of hell and demonic monsters, has extreme endurance, will, and strength, and has literally murdered a titan that is 500 feet tall wouldn’t have a backstory? It would confuse people why and how the Doomslayer came to be and would be an absolute shit show of fan theories. Is that what you want?
Backstory narrative wasn't a driving factor back in the day with tech limitations. He likes that style and 2016 wasn't big on cutscenes preceding a more circumstantial approach with a tv recording here or radio line there - remember he loves Dark Souls which doesn't force lore on you either. It's there but you have to seek it out leaning to a type of story telling some just prefer and have mastered like say how well Bioshock or Ark does storytelling via collectables and sparse dialogue. Biggest issue was straight up that Eternal took a different route than 2016 so expectations were there from 2016 as to how lore would be presented.
Doom guy already had a backstory before this game but in this game they changed his lore not hating on the game I love it one the best FPS games I’ve ever played but the lore is conveluted
The marauder isnt as unbalanced once you think about better strategies to fight him, his ghost dog doesnt need to go, it's his punishment for wasting bullets and will only activate if you shoot his shield. Rockets are also a good option for when your unable to shoot him when hes defensive, just shoot behind him and detonate it at the right time. You should also try to get some distance from the marauder so that he tries to chase you down and use his axe attack which makes his eyes glow green. That's the basic strategy for fighting the marauder
Having beaten the game on Nightmare with tutorials disabled from the start, I can say the following about each boss. Marauders: easily the most frustrating enemy in the entire game. The range region in which they will lunge at you feels incredibly tiny and inconsistent, sometimes they will respawn their wolf the moment you kill it even in close range, and they completely break the flow of combat. If anything, they feel inconsistent and unpolished mechanically, which make them an annoyance to fight. Doom Hunters: the first half of their boss battle was difficult and hectic, but as you said it was around here the gameplay loop of Eternal really clicked for me. They challenged me in ways that made sense, forcing me to use what I've learned more intelligently. Once I realized you can freeze them and absolutely shred their sled with the mobile turret, they became much less of a problem. The Gladiator: overall a pretty decent boss, though in hindsight I realize that I didn't catch on to quite all of its mechanics, leading to the fight being more difficult than it should have been. Not many comments, its long range club strike should maybe be easier to avoid, as it easily takes off a quarter of your health on Nightmare with almost no window to dodge. Khan Maykr: to be honest, she was kind of a pushover. I defeated her first try burning maybe one extra life, which is noticeably less than the other bosses. Her attacks were easy to avoid, and Maykr Drones provide so many resources it doesn't feel too urgent to stay topped up on health. Icon of Sin: my god, this boss beat me down more times than I can count, I must've spent at least two hours trying to defeat this boss alone. It was brutally difficult, forcing me to relearn how I approached the game and put much more focus on the Crucible, Blood Punch, and Chainsaw for crowd control. It did help that I had unlocked the Unmaykr, which did good, easy to land damage to its different weak spots. The first half felt more frustrating than the second, with its cramped arena and penchant for filling it with Cyber Mancubi. However, it pretty much felt felt like a "git gud" kind of boss that brought everything I had learnt throughout the game to its edge. It was definitely among the most viscerally cathartic bosses to beat in any game I've ever played. My fun ranking for the bosses, from most to least fun, would be as follows: 1. Doom Hunters 2. Icon of Sin 3. Khan Maykr 4. Gladiator 5. Marauder (mainly due to its appearances later in the campaign) My difficulty ranking, from most to least difficult, would be as follows: 1. Icon of Sin 2. Marauder (again when it appears later in the campaign) 3. Gladiator 4. Doom Hunters (they spice up later encounters, which is why they're not at no. 5) 5. Khan Maykr (was I the only one who found her to be kind of a pushover?)
when I beat the Khan Maykr I was surprised the boss fight was over with how easy it was, all I did was shoot ballista shots hopping around on the top level and sometimes shooting a drone for ammo, and this was on nightmare difficulty
Khan Maykr was super easy, the triple shot from the rocket launcher absolutely destroys her. I also found the Icon of Sin to be pretty easy. The amount of crucible ammo was astounding, any time I felt I was being overwhelmed by enemies I would just whip it out and cut down all the heavies. His fist slam did almost get me a few times, so I guess on a higher difficulty (I was playing on Hurt me Plenty) I may have used a few extra lives. Other than that, I didn't have too much problems with him.
Raven Ik, your dodging a pinky and suddenly the marauder appears out of nowhere and claps your cheeks. Or a door opens, and guess who showed up even though they weren’t invited to the party. You find yourself desperate so you swing the crucible at Him and alas, his shield bounces that sucker off like a golf ball slugging your house.
Leone Senpai u don’t really take him to pound town. U wait for him to do one specific move. Idk about you, but it’s not hard, it’s just time consuming. Horrible design
Here are my thoughts on the bosses: -Marauder: I’m one of the few folks who actually likes fighting the Marauder. One-on-one, the Marauder is pathetic: just hit him while he’s stunned (you can land two shots if quick enough) and dodge his projectiles, repeat till dead. But what others find annoying is what I find fun about Marauders: fighting everyone else while fighting the Marauder. I like to imagine if Doom Eternal were a movie, the Slayer and Marauder duking it out one-on-one in a balanced battle while the Slayer picks off hoards of demons trying to distract from the fight. Once you master balancing fighting the Marauder while defending against the other demons, they become a thrill to fight. -Doom Hunter: Not much to say, just a classic “late game enemy introduced early” boss. I loved how they went from letting you beat one in a fairly tense boss battle with easy fodder enemies go to fighting two with stronger enemies. From a design perspective, it trains the player for late-game encounters, subtly warning them, “It only gets harder from here.” -Gladiator: A more traditional boss battle with multiple ways to fight it: spray & pray, or time the vulnerable spots for a glory kill attack. As for the Sentinel Prime level itself, I think of it as a “breather level”: after tons of intense fights, we get a moment to catch our breath, and if you’re still wondering what’s going on, the game tries to spell it out for you: the Hell Priests were formerly the people who rescued you from Hell, but then got corrupted themselves, turning your saviors into the very thing you were fighting, and worst of all, you’re the one who told them about the demons, putting the fault entirely on you. I thought it was a great twist, seeing the priests pre-corruption, having Doomguy rant about the demons, having the priest and Kahn Makyr look into it, and then smash-cutting to the same priest in his red-eyed deep-voiced demonic form, as if to say, “If you hadn’t told them about Hell, none of this would’ve happened. I guess the dude from Doom Hunter base was right: you *did* screw over the Sentinels.” -Kahn Makyr: If you cheesed your way through the game without using headshots, the grappling hook, blood punch, or using all your navigation tools (dash, double jump, poles, and jump pads), this fight will be a rude awakening. It switches up the formula and asks you to forget the chainsaw, forget the defensive approach, and go full ham on the boss while carefully aiming at the drones for ammo and health pickups. If you keep moving and maintain environmental awareness, the “floor is lava” attack shouldn’t pose much of a threat, and even then, popping a drone will give you more than enough health. -Icon of Sin: Nothing to add, just a pure badass fight while juggling fighting all the evil that Hell can conjure (like the intro said). Much like the Marauder fights, I like to imagine that the Slayer is focusing all his fire on the Icon while picking off the oncoming demon hordes. It’s roughly the same in principle: knock away the oncoming demons while harvesting resources, pour it on the Icon, repeat till he’s dead. Overall, a spectacular way to end the game. That’s my two cents. Of course, you did raise common complaints about the game: Marauders being too aggravating to fight, no true “one-on-one” boss battles, the game giving too many hints on how to win (I think they should’ve saved those for the loading screens, like when you’re normally killed by enemies), and focusing a little too much on story. I’m fine with those personally, but let’s hope they address these in a future update.
Spaztique I thought the khan maker was very easy actually. The lock on rocket launcher plows through her and the precision bolt heavy cannon kills khan drones with ease.
Dominick Chuka That’s what I did, too. I’m mainly referring to how her boss mechanics are much different from the other enemies. Since people who repeat the same tactics have trouble with Marauders, I wouldn’t be surprised if they got creamed by the Kahn Makyr, too.
I love the sense of progression you get with the marauder. He's a wonderful shake-up to the combat when you first run in to him, but by the end of the game you are whooping their asses in 10 seconds flat like all the other demons.
@@blmao5150 I just don't like how he grinds the entire game to a halt. Even in the gladiator fight if you know what you are doing you can control the rhythm of the fight. The Marauder forces you to be reactive than proactive.
Kingsley CY I find that the marauder has a pretty predictable pattern. One ranged axe attack and then he runs at you for a swing with his axe. If you get to close he’ll change his pattern but if you can keep that rhythm you should be alright.
@@grilledchicken5301 Thank you. On my first Marauder fight, he destroyed me. But once I learned that pattern he became very manageable. I dont know why so many people say that he just cowers behind his shield all the time. Just stop attacking him, dodge the axe throw at mid range and then he does the axe swing you can counter. Its not that difficult.
A good way I've seen the gameplay loop described is: "You need to learn how to play right before you get to play wrong." Once you learn to play right, it will be like muscle memory, and from there you can basically have your own style. Also I feel like if they retextured the Khan Maykr's floor-is-lava mechanic into constant space-lasers, it would fit much better. She's a flying boss that you need to pay attention to, and you can't always be looking at the ground, so being able to see where the floor is lava by space-lasers would be nice.
. I gotta say it’s definitely eternal that hooked me. 2016 was good, but this takes the cake. Then meathooks it right to the ground. I don’t have time to eat cake, I got some demons to kill.
The Icon of Sin was way too hard for me initially. I was on ultra-violence and had 6 extra lives. The first phase blew through all of those and the second phase took 6+ tries. The fireball attack and vagueness of what was good to shoot or not made me angry. That final cutscene made it all worth it!
It took me a lot of deaths on UV before I realized you can absolutely spam the crucible to keep your health topped up. Like to the point where it was my answer to basically everything I couldn't glory kill after two SSG blasts. Loading screen: Use the crucible. No, really use it. USE IT.
I only watched the #5 and half of #4, because the critiques definitely did not age well. Seeing that the video is posted soon after launch. This ranking shows that the rush to produce content without playing enough of the game provides an incomplete analysis of its mechanics. Sorry for those who are watching this video trying to decide if DE is something they should pickup or not.
here's a list of reasons why I hate the marauder ( i played on ultra-violence the whole game) 1. his annoying dog that won't get off your ass at all fucking times 2. its impossible to tell the range for when he'll do the green eye counter, I can sit there in what i think is the right range and he will just shoot me in the face while I'm waiting for the counter and then do the green eye counter immediately after and hit me while I'm trying to go get health because he just destroyed my health bar. 3.his dodge that moves him to fast to turn to counter his attack ( I'm on console on i cant turn that fast or aim that quickly) 4. sometimes my shotgun will just shoot through him and not hit him. 5.i cant count the amount of times he's sniped me through the air while i try to deal with the crowds around him. 6. he requires too much attention, if you focus him and he's not the last demon, you're gonna get your ass blasted by everyone else.
I really do like the icon of sin, but I can’t enjoy his cool and imposing design because of the amount of enemies. I understand that you need ammo, and health, and the crucible was fun to use, but I don’t need to fight 3 hell knights while trying to dodge the fire all over the floor, AND a gigantic fist. It is a sad case of adding too many minions.
Mr.Eatmyfealings 12345, your supposed to use the crucible on any big enemy you see while fighting the icon, it replaces glory killing during the fight, so you can still get health and not be distracted. The crucible ammo refills so you’ll always have enough to kill any big minion in your way.
The funny thing about Doom Eternal's difficulty for bosses is that it's laughably inconsistent. One minute you're kicking the crap out of the supposed "Hunters" of yours truly, the next you're doing the Marauder Tango while avoiding Rocket barrages from the resident Dooty boys! But that all comes to a head with "The Gladiator". Everything you've faced, everything you've learned, this one demonic warrior of the thunderdome brings it all to a screaming head with a two phase fracas. Starting off, he gives you a taste of the familiar with the dance you've done time and time again but with some extra chain flail spice to the mix. And while this extra range gives him a bit of an edge over his more normal encounter counterpart, it's still the same ol song and dance you've done over and over again. Green glow, dodge, fire, wash, rinse, repeat. What that all does is lul you into a false sence of security as you're wiping the floor with him, as he really brings the pain in the second Phase. Turns out, double the fun is exactly what you need to spice up a boss fight as this satanic soldier ups the antie with two flails yet unique ways of use. Between testing your dash reactions with the ol one two combo, testing your awareness with his lightning jump rope attack (which allows for easy damage if you're paying attention), or testing your patience with his reflecting shield move, the Gladiator is easily the hardest yet most fun boss of Doom Eternal.
Hardest is arguable but funnest I can agree with. I just keep going back to that mission just to fight him. I would do the same with the Icon but fighting the marauder then that room beforehand with every enemy in the game is just tedious.
second-easiest boss on Nightmare (first belonging to Doom Hunters) and didn't stand a challenge. I like how dramatic it sounds, but it's really sad how the Marauders are more difficulty than the Gladiator.
He was dying by Khan Maykr on I am too young to die dificulty. I didn't die once while fighting her on I am too young to die and nightmare dificulty. In my opinion, DOOM Eternal is not that difficult as people are critisizing it.
Best To Worst 1- Marauder (best overall testing your skills) 2-Khan Maykr - cool environment, cool music, cool visuals but not challenging even on hardest difficulty. 3-Gladiator - cool concepts yet dies too quickly 4-doom hunter- very weak yet annoying enough to make you dislike him 5-icon of sin - just a glorified bullet sponge with infinite enemy respawns. No innovation, no cool mechanics, nothing. Shame
My thoughts exactly. I love the Marauder. He feels like a worthy opponent. He is fast, strong and has a good AI. I dont understand how he is unbalanced, since he has a pretty easy pattern. Stay in mid range, dodge the axe throw and then he uses a close range attack, which you can counter. Its not that difficult.
Not gonna lie the only thing about the marauder I like is that you can kill him and some of the funniest ways possible like you can glitch him through the map you can just one shot with the BFG 9000 you can make him look like an idiot and humiliate him. You can dodge every single one of his attacks or you can just slay him!
@@sd-ubz2633 They refer to the campaign (which is excellent) Also from my point of view the multiplayer is good, it is not wonderful or much else but it is quite entertaining.
If you stun the marauder with the super shotgun or Arbalest then quickswitch to auto shotgun and immediately pound it into him while simultaneously throwing grenades I'm pretty sure you can 1 cycle him with only 1 weapon switch so even on console you got no excuse.
Hardest boss was, for me, the Marauder. I lost about 3 extra lifes on that son of a bitch. And the fact, he than became a regular enemy gave me a couple of headaches. And I don't even really enjoy fighting him
Icon of Sin was definitely the worst at nightmare difficulty. My eyes were hurting, my fingers were cracking and my whole body drowned in sweat by the time i beat that fucker. It was pretty awesome.
The Marauder gave me really trouble... And everytime I see him enter an Arena I have this "hate my fucking life" moment but Damn the Khan maykr fight just fucking destroyed my will to live. I lost over 10 extra life on it and I played on the easyest setting... Yeah I suck at shooters, I needed basically at least 5 attempts for a headshot on those shitty drones, that fight was my nightmare
Hmmm, I wonder why there are supporting demons in bosses… hmm it’s almost like recourse management and strategic play are a key mechanic in this game… interesting
Just listening to him talk about the marauder hurts. The dude was incredible tough in the first in encounter, but became easier as the game went on and I eventually genuinely enjoyed his presence as I felt like he was the one demon who could legitimately go toe to toe with me. Me beating him made me feel accomplished and helped to define and sharpen my skills in this game. Also, I played on ultra violence, if anyone wants to know.
Even in Nightmare that was the case for me, doing quick switch to dispatch a Marauder flawlessly after taking a beating the first time is the best gaming experience of my 2020
10:25 the cut scenes are skipable if you don’t like them skip them 16:22 and you never went 1v1 against the icon in the old games so why complain about this one
"Why don't bosses drop ammo for countering them or damaging them during specific attacks?" You don't have a pistol with infinite ammo like 2016. You have no form of damage (besides melee, which does infinitely small damage) when you have no ammo. At all. You have to wait for fodder to show up and chainsaw them, since chainsaw eventually refills to 1 tick. This is the core mechanic of Doom Eternal. Resource management. It's disappointing to hear that most of the major gripes with each boss is that they don't drop ammo for you at specific points, or that there is fodder shooting you in the boss arena. In Doom 2016, if you got to the point where you ran out of ammo at any boss, you were dead. You have a ludicrous amount of ammo at this point of the game and if you ran out of ammo through poor accuracy, you sign your death sentence. With the immense amount of firepower, if you missed all your shots, you had no way of redemption. A normal/first time player could not succeed with a pistol against the Cyberdemon. The only path was to slog through an hour of potshots or to die and start over. This does not sound fun, at all (unless you're a masochist, in which case, you do you). Doom Eternal gives you the ability to instantly have all of your weapon options become available in a single moment, should you hit zero. The dance becomes "Firing and dodging, to no ammo, to dodging/searching for fodder, to chainsaw, to firing/dodging" and repeat. In Doom 2016 it was just dodge and shoot, glory kill occasionally, stock up on ammo after/during battle repeat. Both are resource intensive, both have their mechanics and both have their ups and downs. Since those ammo based fodder are in EVERY boss arena, and you have a FRACTION of the ammo you had in Doom 2016, even fully upgraded, could you not consider them an extension of the bossfight/game and thus a non-issue? The marauder demands immense attention, but it doesn't change the core dance, like every boss. In every bossfight, the boss demands attention, fodder, way less. Don't get me wrong, it's easy to see why basic enemies shooting you in the back and not letting you dodge and shoot the main boss specifically can be annoying, but that's part of the fun, the chaos to it all and coming out on top despite these minor annoyances. Micromanaging this fodder just becomes another part of the game. I agree and feel as if The Icon of Sin was indeed a great battle because you didn't need to focus on the traditional Doom Eternal dance as much, with the respawning resources in the environment. It felt like a hybrid of Doom 2016 and Eternal, which is FANTASTIC. tl;dr - Complaints that bosses have enemies in their arena is a non-issue as it is part of this game's core gameplay mechanic and should not count against the bosses. If you wanted more of Doom 2016, oh well, you won't get it. This a new game. New mechanics. Judge it on that, not what the game was in 2016. P.S. The issue with 11:21 can be mitigated at the beginning of the game by turning off in-game hints in the options (which I would suggest heavily). It takes away the spoon-feeding and really accentuates how badass you feel when you beat a boss like Marauder through trial and error and eventually finding what works. It makes each bossfight MONUMENTALLY more challenging, and thus rewarding when you succeed. (Also please note... just my opinion)
Exactly. I think that Democracy here, while he says he got into the DOOM dance partway through the game, hasn't truly understood it yet - Complaining that fodder are a part of big boss fights is unfair, as it means you need to focus on multiple things simultaneously. If there was only one enemy in any encounter, you would annhialate it - imagine the doomhunter with no fodder, and it wouldn't be a challenge. The point is that you need to be constantly taking in your surroundings and recognising the threats posed by different enemies. It's a similar story with restricting the arena - you need to work with your limited space, which just means you need to b e paying more attention at all times. He's got halfway to understanding the DOOM Dance, but not fully.
I still can't belive there are people who think Doom 2016 is better than Eternal. Different and simpler sure but not better. Eternal forces the player out of his confort zone like no other AAA games. Expect Japanese Souls like games. And that is a realy good thing. Even i think it is some of the best games ever made from a designpoit. It has it's flaws. Some Bugs, at times bad placed invisible walls for level boundrys, secrets are in auto map displayed and in general to easy. Plattforming can be harder to. But thats nearly all what i critized from the campain. Levels are more straight forward compared to Doom 1, 2. But that is no con, cause levels are still realy good designt with much changes, diversity and much room for movemend and great enemy placement. And every mechanic is necessary, nearly perfect balanced and no gimmicks.
Idk, I played on nightmare difficulty for my first playthru, and those fodder were a god send, for one they are free ammo, for two glory kills saved my ass a number of times especially if you equip extra range on glory kills, plus quick glory and movment speed on glory kills it made me run around the room like fucking sonic the hedghog while getting back armor and hp, which considering you lose on nightmare you go from 100% to 5% hp in 2-3 hits, if anything they made bosses much easier. Except icon of sin, that shit was annoying and I mostly spent shooting bfg once the arena was overcrowded.
I loved the Icon of Sin as a boss, and it was probably the most intense part of the game for me - but, at least for me on Ultra-Violence, was BY FAR the hardest boss I faced. I died to his first phase way more than I ever did to any Marauder, and as I became more familiar with the patterns and tactics of the fight it became an insane balancing act between finding the best openings to open fire on him, skirting around the arena like a madman to dodge his crazy-damaging slams, and pushing up to the front of the arena to chainsaw some zombies for that sweet, sweet piñata of ammo, all while having to quickly close in on bigger enemies with the Crucible as they came. All of this was, for most of the fight, operating on a razor-thin margin of error. Strangely, though, I beat his second phase in one go. I don't know if it was because the arena was more sprawling and allowed for more varied movement or if it was because I had already mastered the process in the first stage, but it was a pretty stark contrast. Once I beat him, though, I realized what an adrenaline rush it was and all the frustration became triumph and appreciation for his design. P.S. if you want a good time, go back and fight him with sentinel armor, infinite ammo, QuakeCon mode, infinite quad damage, and infinite haste all while using the Unmaykr lol
I also beat the game on Ultra Violence. I never fully learned the pattern for the Icon of Sin's attacks and subsequently felt frustrated the entire time fighting him. His seemingly irregular arm smashing would ruin a run that was working so well.
The marauders aren't that bad honestly, I disagree. I could see them being very annoying on console with a joystick at 60FPS, but with a mouse at 144FPS he is not hard to deal with. Just don't shoot his shield as that will spawn the dogs, and try to cycle between the super shotgun and the balista and you will be okay.
I swear im one of the few people that loves the lore in this game, i didnt expect to but it got its hooks into me and piecing it all together was pretty satisfying
I feel like a large part of your difficulty with this game was not using synergies of weapons together. Ballista + precision bolt being the biggest and most effective one for all bosses or boss type enemies. Also the plasma gun is arguably the least effective gun overall, has niche uses and you’re attempting to use it on bosses lol it just doesn’t work that well
Personally I hated the marauder. Before you figure out the distance and timing he's frustrating, after you figure it out he's boring and annoying. He is the one recurring toll booth on the roller coaster that is doom eternal's combat.
Hottake: Marauder isn't a bad enemy and is actually one of the best designed bosses. Also dog only comes out when you shoot his shield or his shield is hit by incoming fodder fire.
Ngl the first marauder encounter was really easy. I went into it expecting a brutal challenge from what the reviews said only to beat it first try, only getting hit once or twice. The later encounters are crazy, but the boss encounter was easy
If anyone is having a hard time with the kahn makyr I have a secret for you that I discovered when I first fought the boss. All you need is the scoped heavy assault rifle and the lock on rocket launcher. Simply lock on to the kahn makyr with the rocket launcher and obliterate her health bar. If at any point you need ammunition swap to the heavy assault rifle and head shot the adds. I recommend the ability where time slows while you aim in mid air. Simply rinse and repeat and this boss is practically a joke
The backstory for the doomslayer was literally there to show he was the original doomguy
Is this supposed to be some type of negative criticism
vol Rogue No, because it's true.
@@conorlbest because they don't want to much change. I love the story of doom eternal.
The infinite lesser Demons spawning into the arena can be seen as a mere nuisance in what would otherwise be a one-on-one boss battle, but once you delve deeper into the *DOOM* lore, and find out how the Slayer got his title, and how the Demonic hordes came to fear him the way they do to this day, it gives rise to another possible perspective for the player:
*Even Hell's mightiest creatures, the supposed pinnacles of power of this race of interdimensional conquerors, who have consumed countless worlds in the past, ARE TOO AFRAID to face the Slayer in single combat, choosing to rely on lesser Demons to create openings for them to attack this green armored monster that THEY are currently fighting.*
A dual sided mechanic. One for the Boss to get to attack you without the constant deaththreat of staring into a Super Shotgun barrel, and a way for you to mix up the gameplay loop a little with some chainsaw pinata action.
Thank you for listening to my TED talk.
The Bloody Crow of Cainhurst yes you put it into words. Doom has a lore to it which defines why the fights are as they are.
Except that the true boss in the room is the doomslayer :v
ngoc kien hence the awesome music it’s all gods music

Foreal! It's fun encountering him. At first I hated it but then started to love it lol
I feel like any and all complaints summed up to “I don’t like lore” or “this aspect made the fight too hard.” Just an observation
I'm familiar with his channel through the Dark Souls series, and it surprises me that the text driven lore is one of his complaints.
Facts. Lol.
There are a few valid issues with the marauder but the main one is the way the game tells you to fight him is one of the worst ways you can fight him
The Marauder was HARD when I first fought him, but every subsequent time I gained experience with his moveset and it got easier and easier. It was never truly easy to deal with but bareable is the best description. I can appreciate the difference in his design and how he links to the slayer but man... the dog, the shield... FUUUUCK!

Fuck that god damn dog. I have spoken
Need to either get rid of the dog or the shield, or nerf the dogs bite, the way it causes you to move at 1/2 speed for a short time is brutal

Am i the only one who thinks if the demons had control of them self's they would run from the Slayer
I think most people, including me, would agree with you if it weren't for one thing...
Wolf.
It’s really not that bad. People need to chill with it.
But it is ineffective by the crusader which is a one shot
Nicky Knifestab you can kill a marauder in like 30-40 seconds. If you get bored after 40 seconds of a fight, then that’s your fault.
Josh Hector Heck, most good players can kill him in 5-20 seconds, he's barely an inconvenience

‘Enemies take away from the boss fight’
And in first place, The Icon of Sin!
I struggled with the icon of sin way more than the other bosses
The icon is so frustaiting. His attacks left you with 30 hp even if you have the maximum armor and health... And that is with one punch. Even the gladiator and khan maykr is easier than the icon.
How in the hell did you people struggle with the icon there is RESPAWNING CRUCIBLE AMMO any enemy causing trouble ex. Cyber m. Pain elemental can just be ont shotted and then boom no struggle the fodder is just that fodder even on nightmare just don't stand still the icons attacks are stupid telegraphed what could you possibly struggle with multi tasking?
Actually the Kahn Maykr is easier

"Marauder needs nerfing..."
The Marauder is a twisted, demonic mirror of The Slayer; he's designed to be able to go toe to toe with you, and possesses the tools to do so.

Did you guys even play nightmare on console? Easy? Tf.

No, please don’t get rid of the dog. The marauder really is not difficult and honestly it was annoying hearing you whine about how he needs to be nerfed.
He doesnt need to be nerfed, but I'll be damned before I admit hes not hard, he fucked me up so many times
The dog is punishment for you spraying at him. It only spawns if you shoot his shield. The dog should stay😤

Alright, if you've got issues with the Marauder, consider the following:
He is meant to punish you for messing up.
Couldn't have said it more perfectly..
This is just 👌🏻
Consider the following: He's not a doom enemy. He's closer to a souls enemy, where pattern recognition and timing are important. That goes against the very CORE of doom games, where positioning and movement is king.
@@senounatsuru6453 positioning and movement is an extremely important element of fighting the marauder. Know the arena so you can quickly move around it to avoid him, and position in a way where he has to come to you
And pattern recognition is important in fighting other demons. With the Tyrant for example, you hear a very distinct auditory cue for one of his strongest attacks. If you don’t recognize that pattern of audio chances are you will get hit by it and punished for not recognizing the cue
The unmaker becomes very useable in the icon of sin fight.
I found it to be disappointing, maybe if it used different ammo from the bfg it would be better
@@diobrando9842 no you are right with the right angle you could wipe a whole arena with one shot but in the final sin mission it is really easy to miss bfg shots so that's why i used it there.

My fun ranking for the bosses, from most to least fun, would be as follows:
1. Doom Hunters
2. Icon of Sin
3. Khan Maykr
4. Gladiator
5. Marauder (mainly due to its appearances later in the campaign)
My difficulty ranking, from most to least difficult, would be as follows:
1. Icon of Sin
2. Marauder (again when it appears later in the campaign)
3. Gladiator
4. Doom Hunters (they spice up later encounters, which is why they're not at no. 5)
5. Khan Maykr (was I the only one who found her to be kind of a pushover?)
The Khan Makyr was a pain in my ass the first time. But doing it on my second go was a breeze because I knew how to do it well.
I agree with your ranking fully Kahn Maykr was really easy
Edit: I was playing on ultra violence
when I beat the Khan Maykr I was surprised the boss fight was over with how easy it was, all I did was shoot ballista shots hopping around on the top level and sometimes shooting a drone for ammo, and this was on nightmare difficulty

@@RM22201 Or you could use splash damage to hit him from behind while his shield is up. Experimentation is encouraged.
Here are my thoughts on the bosses:
-Marauder: I’m one of the few folks who actually likes fighting the Marauder.
From a design perspective, it trains the player for late-game encounters, subtly warning them, “It only gets harder from here.”
-Gladiator: A more traditional boss battle with multiple ways to fight it: spray & pray, or time the vulnerable spots for a glory kill attack. I guess the dude from Doom Hunter base was right: you *did* screw over the Sentinels.”
-Kahn Makyr: If you cheesed your way through the game without using headshots, the grappling hook, blood punch, or using all your navigation tools (dash, double jump, poles, and jump pads), this fight will be a rude awakening.
Couldn't have put it better myself. You saw everything pretty much the same why I saw it and I could not agree more!
Spaztique yeah, that’s true.
You can actually hit him trice.
Shotgun -> ballista -> shotgun

I love the sense of progression you get with the marauder. He's a wonderful shake-up to the combat when you first run in to him, but by the end of the game you are whooping their asses in 10 seconds flat like all the other demons.
and there are other people who keep finding him tedious and still struggle to kill him and then call him a bad enemy because they can’t git gud.
Blmao bet $0.00 that they keep trying to shoot his shield instead of just taking their time for once
That's it , I'm calling you DOOModracy from now until the end of time.
I personally found Khan makyr to be harder, she took a few tries on ultra violence but beat icon of sin first try
Ashley Newton just difference in play style I guess. I don’t know about you, but the magma floor was the biggest detriment for me.
It took me a lot of deaths on UV before I realized you can absolutely spam the crucible to keep your health topped up. Like to the point where it was my answer to basically everything I couldn't glory kill after two SSG blasts.

Just use the super shotgun, ballista combo and The Marauder is a piece of cake
easiest to hardest (based on the number times they killed me): Kahn marker
here's a list of reasons why I hate the marauder ( i played on ultra-violence the whole game)
1. his annoying dog that won't get off your ass at all fucking times
2. its impossible to tell the range for when he'll do the green eye counter, I can sit there in what i think is the right range and he will just shoot me in the face while I'm waiting for the counter and then do the green eye counter immediately after and hit me while I'm trying to go get health because he just destroyed my health bar.
3.his dodge that moves him to fast to turn to counter his attack ( I'm on console on i cant turn that fast or aim that quickly)
4. sometimes my shotgun will just shoot through him and not hit him.
And the second phase where there’s 800 cacodemons and pinkies
Mr.Eatmyfealings 12345, your supposed to use the crucible on any big enemy you see while fighting the icon, it replaces glory killing during the fight, so you can still get health and not be distracted. The crucible ammo refills so you’ll always have enough to kill any big minion in your way.
Just turn on photo mode
Was I the only one who had that fight last F O R E V E R? The second phase felt like it took 30 minutes for me
Jonathan Rowe yeah, it lasted 15 or so minutes for me and I killed 25-30 Barons, among the rest of the fodder spread around.
Damn you should be a co-writer for demod that sounds exactly like something he’d put for an entry
Hardest is arguable but funnest I can agree with.
I just keep going back to that mission just to fight him. I would do the same with the Icon but fighting the marauder then that room beforehand with every enemy in the game is just tedious.
@@kuronaialtani I......uh......huh. I never thought of it like that. That's kinda funny.
second-easiest boss on Nightmare (first belonging to Doom Hunters) and didn't stand a challenge.
You lost me when you started talking about bosses being too hard lol
Lol, Marauder was my favourite boss exactly for the reasons you did not like. Way more interesting than the bullet hell/sponge icon of sin
Agreed. That fight with the icon of sin is way over the top, even for Doom. Hugo and Marty must of been drunk went they made it
Best To Worst
1- Marauder (best overall testing your skills)
2-Khan Maykr - cool environment, cool music, cool visuals but not challenging even on hardest difficulty.
3-Gladiator - cool concepts yet dies too quickly
4-doom hunter- very weak yet annoying enough to make you dislike him
5-icon of sin - just a glorified bullet sponge with infinite enemy respawns.
@@InspectorBus it was underwhelming
Not gonna lie the only thing about the marauder I like is that you can kill him and some of the funniest ways possible like you can glitch him through the map you can just one shot with the BFG 9000 you can make him look like an idiot and humiliate him. You can dodge every single one of his attacks or you can just slay him!
Who agress with me that Doom Eternal is the best Fps ever made?
hell yea
YEAHHH
Not quite, if it had a great multiplayer then I would consider it one of the best
@@sd-ubz2633 They refer to the campaign (which is excellent)
Also from my point of view the multiplayer is good, it is not wonderful or much else but it is quite entertaining.
W doom isn’t meant for multiplayer
This guy sounds like he’s part of ign
If you stun the marauder with the super shotgun or Arbalest then quickswitch to auto shotgun and immediately pound it into him while simultaneously throwing grenades I'm pretty sure you can 1 cycle him with only 1 weapon switch so even on console you got no excuse.
Fastest I've ever caught one of your videos. Thank you Demod for keeping me sane during my country's quarantine.
Same
Hardest boss was, for me, the Marauder. I lost about 3 extra lifes on that son of a bitch. And the fact, he than became a regular enemy gave me a couple of headaches. And I don't even really enjoy fighting him
The icon of sin in ultravilent stole 4 lifes out of the 7 i had, there where to many hell knight on that fight but the infinite sword its amazing
I made a mistake playing ultra violence first but at least I didn't play on nightmare.
@@nuggo8711 Smart move trust me, I did Nightmare first, hoooo boy was it a ride, frustrating but fun ride
Even in Nightmare that was the case for me, doing quick switch to dispatch a Marauder flawlessly after taking a beating the first time is the best gaming experience of my 2020
I like how Marauder's range weapon is an axe and melee weapon is a shotgun
10:25 the cut scenes are skipable if you don’t like them skip them
16:22 and you never went 1v1 against the icon in the old games so why complain about this one
"Why don't bosses drop ammo for countering them or damaging them during specific attacks?"
You don't have a pistol with infinite ammo like 2016.
PUG fucking preach 🙌
I did that and used the crucible :)
I just watched a man whine for 18 minutes and 35 seconds.
Also the plasma gun is arguably the least effective gun overall, has niche uses and you’re attempting to use it on bosses lol it just doesn’t work that well
I feel like the archvile should have been included in this list.
It isn't a boss
I came into this video thinking to myself: "Please don't complain about The Marauder and say 'mid-range'."
I came to the video to look at all the dumbasses complain about the murader and fight their terrible points.
I was hoping he would talk shit about those snake mother fuckers
Personally I hated the marauder. Before you figure out the distance and timing he's frustrating, after you figure it out he's boring and annoying. He is the one recurring toll booth on the roller coaster that is doom eternal's combat.
Dude doesn’t even quick swap between the super shotgun and the ballista do wonder he has trouble
The Murauder secret encounter made me want to rip my hair out.
Hottake: Marauder isn't a bad enemy and is actually one of the best designed bosses. Also dog only comes out when you shoot his shield or his shield is hit by incoming fodder fire.
Just shoot the dog anyway. It has incredibly low HP
@@somwelch9776 Yeah but it's hitbox is weird
Yeah except that's not communicated to the player, not even from the codex.
That is indeed a hot take. Because it's a bad one. He does not fit into DOOM.
Ngl the first marauder encounter was really easy. I went into it expecting a brutal challenge from what the reviews said only to beat it first try, only getting hit once or twice. The later encounters are crazy, but the boss encounter was easy
It's very interesting for me to see everyone struggling to fight the marauder because I never had an issue with him..... idk it's just wierd....
same, then again I already knew how to fight him before I met him
If anyone is having a hard time with the kahn makyr I have a secret for you that I discovered when I first fought the boss.
