That's it? Kill each other for eternity? Has even Clive Barker forgotten what the Cenobites are all about? They seek to cause pain and pleasure, so extreme that it's impossible to tell where one sensation and the other begins.
A better ending would be Julia and Frank merging, constantly trying to pull away from each other. Their flesh...the skin, the muscle, even the organs fuse and rip apart from their attempts, only for them to bind together again in a new configuration. The Cenobites will delight in both their suffering and seeing how many configurations there can be before they repeat themselves. Thousands? Hundreds of thousands? Millions?

Indeed it is but also the rest of the cast i love the original Kirsty a really good performance of a likeable main character that has enough Jizz not to be just another 80s screamqueen. And what actor can pull off the performance off Larry of genuine friendly good man and a moment later be the Ultimate creep. Its a good thing they are not going to remake this classic.

Agreed!! I'd love to see more stories featuring Harry D'amour. Lord Of Illusions was pretty damn good for it's time, but an update would be pretty cool. A Harry D'amour origin story would be great also. Cabal/Nightbreed origin/update/continuation would something to see as well. The Hellraiser/Nightbreed "Jihad" crossover from comics back in the day would be a great addition too. Sprinkle in some Harry D'amour stories and you've got a ready-made universe of the fantastic and abominable to make movies in. I'd totally blow off the MCU and DCU to splash around in Clive Barker's Hell-verse. Mr B's videos have had me getting back into Clive's world in a major way lately!!

That kinda darkness is far more interesting than just wall to wall gore. I almost think, if it had been produced, they would have agreed with you and ordered the lines changed. I like the new frank honestly. I mean the tone is portraying pinhead as evil clearly but yet there is still a bit of lax there for the audience to see him as somewhat of an antihero albeit one that isn’t going out of his way to actually be a hero but the type that just ends up doing what he normally would do but just at this particular time it makes him seem a sliver more heroic. By doing this Frank and Julia become the real villains of the story. And Frank being...this new more disgusting human being helps to sorta get the message across of who the real monster actually is. A being doing exactly what he is created to do or someone that is supposed to be loving and trusting yet CHOOSES to be the opposite. It’s an old moral that is a bit cliche but the way it’s being told is a more interesting way if I do say so myself, but that’s only how I look at it.

rhys瑞斯 as bullet said, Kirsty wonders about that, but only in the novel. I don’t think we can class the elycium configuration as a door to paradise. It’s been a while since I watched bloodlines but I was certain that the Elysium configuration only counteracted the lament configuration.
I don’t think it is ever hinted that when used on its own it would be a door to paradise. I also have a hard time imagining such a thing could exist. Pinhead’s famous line “demons to some, Angela to others” makes me think that the coenobites are all there is. Moreover it is the perception of the individual that determine whether they get joy or suffering from what the coenobites do.
This mentality is common in the BDSM community (that the original novel was inspired by) where pain can bring pleasure.
      I may be wrong.

I like the script overall but yeah, the incest angle is a bit too much. Maybe just having Frank planning to murder his own niece to complete his resurrection would be enough. Also, perhaps have the ending more like the novella: the Engineer (or even Leviathan) appears in a beam of light and gives Kirsty the puzzle box to use as she wishes. She briefly spots the screaming faces of Julia and Julia reflected on the box's surface, with Frank's expression more of misery and agony while Julia's is one of madness and sexual delight. They are chained up beside one another, to be forever tortured side-by-side.

Having Frank interact with the Cotton family prior to him being taken by The Cenobites is moronic as it completely undermines the ambiguous time frame of how long Frank has been experiencing The Cenobites "Pleasures"!
I always understood that Frank has been missing for a few weeks in the real world (long enough for his food to spoil and rot) but the time he's spent with The Cenobites has been an eternity of suffering on a constant loop of dismemberment and regeneration.
Also Frank was perfectly sinister and malicious in the original, he doesn't need to be an EdgeLord screaming "I'm going to fuck your corpse Kirsty!" ... the original line of "Come to Daddy!" was perfectly ominous and menacing, as you knew just how dangerous and degenerate Frank was by that point in the story.
The more I hear about this remake the more it becomes apparent that Clive Barker has completely lost his edge and he's now fully residing in creative cliché and mediocrity.

If you want to look at a really worthy expansion of the Hellraiser mythology then I highly recommend you take a look at the comic series *Clive Barker's Hellraiser* that was first published in 2011 by Boom Studios and ran until 2012. It's the continuation of the story of _Hellbound Hellraiser II_ that we never really got in the film medium and well worth a look at as it was co-written by Clive Barker himself, it also introduces new Cenobites to the story and Barker's go to detective Harry D'Amour becomes a major player throughout. Plus it'd be awesome to see you review it.
Take a look, it's well worth it, as a Hellraiser fan I loved it.

Check this Sisters - what this remake clearly needs is a Black 'Pin-head'; 'Chatterer' as a Transgender Woman; while the character formerly known as 'butterball' is now called 'body-positive-ball' & Frank Cotton is now Francesca - obviously! And, the Female Cenobite known as 'deep-throat' -- who is seemingly-immortal, nearly invincible, has Telekinetic abilities & can torture men to death for fun by traversing portals to Labrynthian Hell -- would be more empowered as 'Deep-Gloat,' and naturally is now in a Lesbian relationship with Kirsty Cotton which they have to keep secret from the oppressive, fascist ruler - 'Lepatriarcamanathan'.

Pinhead also craved the flesh of his own blood in his backstory he wanted his daughter and after the war his desires were evil in every way. Frank being more sinister is a great addition. Also he more or less uses the incestuous situations to torment and twist his niece by giving her horrible things to think about knowing he would do such things leads more to the backstory of him abusing her as a child. Pedophile uncle is the cherry on top of the depravity Frank has done in his life he does use everyone for his own pleasure with no regard for the damage it does to them and let's be honest if your trying to make the audience hate Frank and just absolutely disgusted by him well incest pedophile does that very well.
Going back to the island that is teased in the creation story of the box the evil that told the toy maker his family was being taken care of as he made the box for him and before he carved his head and drove him n the pins he revealed to the toy maker he not only killed his family but raped them and ate them. Its one of the best and worst things in this franchise is children aren't protected and saved from the horror because they are treated like they would be in real life in as many horrible ways as possible. But incest pedos are the absolute worst of the worst because they are supposed to be loved and protected by the very family members that violate them. Barker wanted to do more with it in the original but the studio refused to let him because they feared it would push it past the R rating and possibly the NC-17 rating meaning no theatrical release

I mean if you read the original book, Frank was and is a crazy pleasure obsessed man who burned out standard pleasure, so in his hedonistic search he discovered the box, it makes only sense he would view women as in all of them as pleasure tools, and in fact all people as potential universes of pleasure albeit sexual, or violent, or any hedonistic excess.

I agree, but he's a little too open in this script.
Like the movie and novella versions of Frank are pretty realistic portrayals of a sociopath/psychopath. He's narcissistic, arrogant, aggressive, hedonistic, disloyal, and amoral. Yet, he has a certain level of animal magnetism and charisma that makes him realistic and makes sense that Julia would be drawn to him despite his repulsive nature (both morally and later physically).
Most people have met a real life version of Frank at least one time in their lives. They can be quite charming, but there's always that element of danger and sleaze just under the surface.
But turning into "I'm gonna fuck your corpse" is a little over-the-top. Now, I am not saying that there aren't any women who wouldn't like a guy like that (I knew at least one who was that sexually disturbed and I'm not joking), but him saying that to Julia without mention seems a bit. As twisted as Julia was, she didn't seem like the type of character who'd be cool with that.

Clive Barker pushed more and more incest, sexual deviance, mystical occult type ideas in many of his novels. The characters were often very complex regarding their morality and the subsequent breakdown. He wanted us to be uncomfortable. This is almost what I would call his signature. The Great and Secret Show as an example had creatures made from feces and semen. Barker explores the grotesque leaving little to the imagination while most writers try to do the opposite.

Considering Hellraiser judgment was 2018 and considering that Hulu also had Hellraiser in October 7th of 2022 would it actually be possible for the last Hellraiser film to be Hellraiser Origins and this time make Hellraiser Origins the final Hellraiser movie of the Hellraiser Saga don't make any more after Hellraiser Origins go all out make the movie two and a half hours long go into extreme detail and damn the cost you can always make money back if you go this route and true it might take a while but it doesn't mean you'll get almost every cent back eventually as long as you work extremely hard on the storyline the graphics and the cast selection to be honest with you just this comment alone is a solid plan but hey what do I know I'm Just a Nobody just because I'm not famous for all I know this common could be ignored or it would actually be red either way I'll leave it to a coin toss the best advice I could give right now is after seeing Hellraiser judgment and Hellraiser of 2022 on Hulu I think it's time Hellraiser goes to a close with the final Hellraiser film of Hellraiser Origins

I could see it being remade if it was closer to the original novella, that would probably be cool.
With the Cenobites actually being rather cheerful and reasonable, the weird sequence where Frank performs the ritual to summon them (including the jugs of urine), Kristy being a friend of Rory's (Larry in the movie) and being more kinda mousy cute as opposed to obviously attractive, the dynamic between Julia and Kristy being Kristy envious of Julia and having a crush on Rory and Julia (who is more obviously attractive) feeling superior to Kirsty, but at the same time oddly threatened because Kristy is young enough that she still might get better looking with age while Julia is already starting to fade.

I don't think the sexual comments detract from the story at all. Sex is a huge driving force for Frank. It's what drove him to defile his brother's wife (because he could). It's what drove him to seek out the box (for even greater pleasures than life had to offer him bc he'd tried all of those and wanted something new). It's part of his manipulative nature. He's a Ted Bundy kinda guy, a psychotic sexual sadist. It's his primary motivation and drive. To me it only makes sense that it plays a bigger role. I thought that was what was missing from the first one. That missing honesty which was merely hinted at made him feel a little two dimensional. I think that's why Claire Higgins stole the show as Julia in the first movie. She felt very three dimensional as a character, and she was played perfectly. Adding his perverse sexual nature will truly bring out the level of Frank's villainy and elevate the character into one of the most twisted monsters of horror, as Frank was meant to be. Hopefully they'd be able to find an actor who can make sure Julia rises to that level again as well. As an utterly villainous duo, Frank and Julia could be a powerful force for a new film. This is just my opinion though, and I know witnessing that level of violent, criminal sexuality can be overly disturbing to others so I definitely understand those who would disagree with me.

Frank Cotton was as Sean Chapman in his interviews on 1987 & 1989 films before Frank opened the box then went to Hell he was sleazy etc but having sex with married woman or bride to be does not make a person evil (billions of people every day are having adulterous sex & married women having cuckold sex etc) but film never makes it 100% clear if Frank violated Kirsty in her earlier years? but after Frank escaped from Hell with Larry's blood cut help & Julia luring men to their deaths for Frank then Frank becomes in your face evil=so obvious. My guess is that Frank realized he went to Hell after his 1st death he was damned not wanted by heaven or God so he said what the hell? & as Kirsty is older plus pretty etc he was going to try sex with her this was pushed further in 1989 Hellbound a 2nd time when Frank was in his Hell of being cock teased by female ghosts who won t satisfy his lust.

Don’t like this to much. I really think the movie was fine, for a remake I would drop Kirstys boy friend who was fucking pointless. The weird bum provided some creeps during the slow parts. I assume he was some kind of avatar of the engineer. He could get booted to. Other than that while I agree with Clive cutting the intro to the cenobites from the beginning for surprise factor, with the cat out of the bag now, extending the intro to be more like the book works for me. I do like how the movie, like the book skips franks torture but I do like how the movie shows the aftermath. Better effects could increase the value of the gore here as well as franks final end

Hellraiser has not stood the test of time. The first one was good and they should have stopped there. The story had been told and told well. The setting and effects worked for the time. I can watch the original now and appreciate the damp, dark setting and tone of the movie. Every sequel has been a step down in every way imaginable. The plot of Hellraiser 2 is just laughable and the effects actually got worse. The rest have been nothing more than sad attempts to revive the spark of the first movie. Oddly enough, there is a great horror movie called The Void that comes muuuch closer to showing what the labyrinth and leviathan from Hellraiser 2 should have looked like.

This is NOT an improvement on the original. Why do we need a MORE evil Frank? The original Frank (from the movie) was a much more relatable character.
He starts out as your basic adventurous hedonist that is determined to find the "ultimate action". He is a self centered, arrogant guy that has limited impulse control. Possessing enormous amounts of physical charisma enables him to strut around like a peacock at his brothers wedding, thus banging the bride.... Is he EVIL or just an average guy with below average character.... and... perverted appetites.
But then he ends up in HELL... and finds a way to escape! WOW! What would that do to a guy like him?
Now we got "survivor Frank"... thus "predator Frank"... "user Frank".... actually ..."desperate Frank".
I think the original version is better because this more relatable character can enable you to see through his eyes. We all have character failings and destructive appetites... Frank isn't totally alien.
Super evil Frank changes the story into a christian morality tale. Frank is sooo evil that god couldn't wait for Frank to die (then send him to Hell), he allowed the devil to trick him into going there early....
    the end.

He's pretty shitty in both the movie and the originally novella.
You do have a good point that he's too in-your-face evil which makes him less of a realistic psychopath (the type that most people have encountered at least once) and more like Ted Bundy without the facade.

    • @pheresy1367
      @pheresy1367 5 лет назад +1

@@libertatemadvocatus1797 After writing my comment, I watched a youtube interview with the actor that played (the intact) Frank Cotton. He described how he collaborated with Clive Barker in creating the character of Frank as being NOT evil at all. Just very passionate and wanting to explore the edges and limits of life itself. Very curious, hedonistic and fearless in his pursuit of knowledge and pleasure.
Remember that he seduced Julia... he didn't abduct, rape, torture and kill her... at least he didn't before escaping Hell (like Bundy would have done.
This is a character that was created by a YOUNG Clive Barker. It's an aspect of himself, as stated by "Frank" in the interview. The much older (more experienced) Clive sees Frank as totally EVIL.
The whole movie was about blurring the lines between good and evil...and pleasure and pain. That's what made it interesting to me.
I'm an old guy myself.(62).. I can understand why Clive would want to re-interpret this character, even though I don't approve of it.. :)

    • @libertatemadvocatus1797
      @libertatemadvocatus1797 5 лет назад +1

I am not saying that you're wrong about what the actor and Clive Barker intended for the movie; the movie and the novella are very different in a lot of way.
That being said, Frank is a shitty person in both the book and movie. Yeah, maybe Frank with skin isn't portrayed as boo-hiss evil, but he certainly is sleazy.
In the book, it makes it clear that he only cares about himself and spends his entire life seeking pleasure and new experiences. It also mentions that he also occasionally smuggles heroin* to make ends meet.
And psychopaths don't go around snarling and putting their most evil actions for public display. Look at organized serial killers for example, people like Ted Bundy or John Wayne Gacy or Jeffrey Dahmer and other examples. They were perfectly able to blend in and often charmed their victims to their death. The vast majority of people who knew them described them as normal or maybe somewhat troubled, but rarely outwardly dangerous or disturbed.
It's hard for anyone to see Frank as anything but evil. Amoral at best and outright malignant at worst. It should be noted that Frank and Julia are the real villains of both the original story and movie.
*I believe that drugs should be legal and I don't think that this makes someone evil, but it definitely shows an unseemly side that goes beyond just getting laid.

    • @pheresy1367
      @pheresy1367 5 лет назад

@@libertatemadvocatus1797 Heh heh... not going to argue with you. My first viewing of the first movie definitely told me that Frank was a bad dude... and a young version of me have admired guys like him... as long as he didn't do anything bad to ME. Now that I've had much experience with the "Franks" of the world, I can identify them immediately for the evil they (potentially) bring. I keep them far away as possible.
I imagine Clive has learned to do the same. Also... age teaches you that giving to the ones in your life, is far better than whatever "wonderful stuff" you grab for yourself.... hopefully you manage to learn that lesson.
I personally still believe that the story of Hellraiser is a stronger one, where the characters like Julia and Frank don't start out as "Evil" people, but evolve into what they became because of how their choices have aligned with their latent amoral personality traits.
