As a Maori myself, thank you for showcasing my culture and our food.
Kia ora, Mike!
Indigenous born and breed here in Aotearoa, New Zealand. Me and my partner have been watching you for 5+ years! And I’ve always wondered when you’d make the trip here 🥹 I always thought that the food here will be more unique and little better than your average 😉 hehe but I’m in such awe, we are huge fans and welcome you to our beautiful land, we hope you enjoyed your stay 🫶🏽🫶🏽
I love it when communities work hard to preserve their culture.
huh? european, asian and indian culture? none of that food was "traditional maori food". lechon?(spanish brought it to the philipines, who brought it there). scotch eggs are scottish. duck confit is french. tandori chicken is indian. new zealand didnt even have ducks until between 1870 and 1930. they didnt have ducks, chickens, pigs, cows or sheep/lamb before europeans brought it. thats just the beginning. they ate rats, wild dogs, fish and each other before that.
@@samwaldorf8777 Huh? Did the words on your device not speak loud enough? You missed the part in the video where the food was purposely infused with international styles, you also missed the part where the culture was preserved in the Pā, you also missed the part where cultural performances was performed. Next time try and make a valid point with a better example.
@@samwaldorf8777we get it, you blow a gasket at the idea of Māori receiving compliments.
@@haynepapi no, i just prefer truth. they dont have "traditional food" they eat western food mostly. but hey, if it makes you feel any better you can say they invented the airplane while youre at it.
@@samwaldorf8777 the comment you responded to specifically referenced cultural preservation, not food.
So proud to be a kiwi! Always welcome back Mikey! Hit me up next time, and I’ll show you the greatest eats of New Zealand ❤
I will do that. Sometimes I am using my adjusted-bunny pseudonym but it's me.
Hard !!
@@adjusted-bunny 😂😂😂😂
Yeah brother Kai here is top tier!!
Yay I am so proud you enjoyed the sharing of our kapa haka, culture and language! So glad you enjoyed the hāngi all the fusion involved is yummy and so crazy it works so well! And all the snacks at TE PA TU is another element of our beautiful culture! Those performers are my family also, so proud of them all sharing our culture with great gusto! ❤🎉❤🎉❤🎉
Am so proud to be Maori! Thank you for kindness, respect & wonderful video!!!❤
New Zealand is at the very top of my bucket list. Someday I will make it there.
Part of me wishes he went to a backyard hangi for a true experience with the NZ people. I get being on a time crunch it's nearly impossible tho. Either way the food looked mint 😁 Cheers from Aus and hope you enjoyed the stay with our mates across the pond!!
100% agree. Best hungi I have ever had was home jobs. Don't get the same flavor in modern mass produced hungi.
Rereke nei 😂
I came on here to say something similar, but more like "that's not really a hangi"
This sure shows hāngi & other aspects of Māori cultures in a new light, especially since you highlighted that there actually multiple tribes of them in a way akin to a cultural rainshade/umbrella. The native herbs & spices sure help matters as well & are the kinds of things one would wish could get more representation
I used to play Rugby in Australia back in the 90s. It's a sport with a huge representation of Pacific Islanders. One day, some of them put on a Hangi just by digging a hole on the sidelines next to the field. It was delicious but the ground was owned by the government, not the club. If anyone in authority knew about it, they would have gone nuts.
Sounds like great fun
Up the WAHS!! ♥️💙💚
This was a great watch, thank you🙏🏽
I thoroughly enjoyed this episode of your trip in nz ❤️ Loved every bit of it 😊 Thank you so much!
Great video. Thanks . Love the show at the end !!
Always love watching your videos and watching you eat! Ty!
Welcome to Aotearoa Mike 👋 Thanks for stopping by!
What a setup, your pizza looks nothing like that in reality.
Every pizza hutt we hit up is like that @Petah5
Kia Ora Mike! Seeing you finally come to New Zealand after watching your content for years on this Channel and your other Channel, I was so Happy. I hope you come back and explore New Zealand a bit more for what it has to offer. I've always watched you while I eat which inspires me to go out and explore more adventurous cuisines to try out. I hope to try a lot of the places you have been to on your travels. Thanks for coming and exploring our Culture here in New Zealand
Why am I not surprised that Pizza Hut elsewhere is better than what we have in the US? That rib joint looked good also, but that Maori experience looked positively amazing! Creative menu, it looks like, too. Most "fusion" cuisine comes off as trying too hard, to me, but it seems that this particular chef put a lot of thought and effort into this particular menu. So cool that you shared the haka with us at the end, too!
Don’t worry the Pizza Hut here in Nz is shit also 😂
Pizza Hut here in New Zealand is disgusting 🤮 seriously 😂I wanna go to that rib crib though 🤤
Thank you for the respect you have shown my country
🩷 Welcome to New Zealand Mikey!
My partner and I were wondering if you'd be coming here after seeing you in Australia.
It's so cool that you're here, those people who crossed paths with you are so lucky and they I hope they know how much of a legend you are. Hopefully you'll come down to Christchurch. Either way we really hope you enjoy your time in our beautiful country. ☺️
Can you say wow what a beautiful and wonderful way to learn about other cultures and the food oh my goodness I'm so glad you had a good time ❤️
Have been a fan of urz for a few years and the joy i experienced when I seen the caption str8 away I shared..love love love u

You came to New Zealand!! 🎉 Amazing. Those ribs look incredible ❤
this brings me so much joy we used to have a hāngī at our primary school
Love it! Kiwi proud ❤❤
Yayyyyy Mike. Love that we gave you an experience to remember ❤
Just visited New Zealand in January but we completely skipped Auckland to focus on seeing the scenic parts of the country. Was in Rotorua, got the tour at Te Puia but skipped the Haka and dinner due to time but glad to see what we missed.
Good choice skipping Auckland
Yea I feel like Mike didn't do his due diligence here, going to NZ and spending time in Auckland is like going to Japan and not visiting Osaka or Tokyo, except even worse.
From a food perspective my time in Auckland was better than the other places I visited throughout North Island. But from an overall enjoyment perspective I enjoyed driving around North Island more. I wish I had time to visit South Island.
Good choice to skip Auckland, cause there’s nothing there but traffic 🤣🤣.
I glad you enjoyed our lovely food, I need hangi now
I love that you came to NZ😍🙌 been watching you for a few years now and always wanted to see you come to my country
Even before he takes his first bite, I know for a fact he will find whatever he eats UUHHHH-mazing, sweet and juicy with tons of umami! 😋😂
That's because he only reviews the places he likes. He doesn't review restaurants has not enjoyed. He knows that many people listen to what he says and a bad review would sink an establishment. He doesn't want to put anyone out of business. Chain restaurants are different. He can't disrupt their business.
Rotorua . . . aka Rottenrua, yup, been there, done that.. Loved it. Great vid.
Omg love the Rib Crib
So happy you came to New Zealand Mikey
New Zealand is a whole country I don’t know much about. Looks like they have some unique cuisine.
We got everything Here. Super diverse
If you head down to Wellington, give Te Papa (our national museum a visit.
Also, "Sweet mothers kitchen" in wellington does an amazing Eggs Herbert if you wish to have a filling breakfast/Brunch.
Love sweet mothers kitchen :)
Sweet Mothers was literally the first place I ate when I arrived in New Zealand! had an amazing epic breakfast there 😋
Hopefully you enjoyed your visit to NZ . Nothing but respect to you buddy and thanks for showing beautiful Aotearoa to the World 🫡

Everything he puts in his mouth is "SOME OF THE BEST TASTING ____ YOULL EVER HAVE"
That's hot
As a New Zealander, it kind of makes me wonder...."How bad must food be in the US if our "average" is supposedly amazing?"
The best pizza I had, was a thin-crusted vegetarian pizza, I'm not even vegetarian!!
Mikey hit me up next time you come to
NZ I’ll show you nz eats and the far north !
Never had a good boiled/simmered rib (seasoned or not), but would be willing to try that!. Still doesn't look as good as our slow wood smoked ribs thought lol! Great vid and thank you Mike!
