Never will there be a machine like Pantera again.
True statement
Wholeheartedly agree. Already bought passes for Welcome to Rockville this coming year and the Pantera reunion is one of the headliners and I can’t decide how happy I am about it.
@@joey_mck just enjoy it for what it is, we cant go back to the late 90's, dime and vinnie are gone and it sucks, however be thankful u dont live on the other side of the world like us down under metal heads
@@OzLeedsCrew Fair point and well said. Cheers dude!
@@joey_mck I like it, I don't see it as Pantera. I see it as a tribute to Pantera, and who better to play Dime's parts than one of his best friends Zakk Wylde.
Riffs, power, solos, groove, transitions both abrupt and incremental...Pantera had it all. In their heyday, they really lead the way for a rebirth of American metal.
THIS^^^^^^
It's called power groove dude...the best power groove band that ever will have been
They were definitely influenced by whatever was the thing at the time, they were once a glam band too lmao the total opposite
@@allistergraham6704 Oh I remember those days. Back then, Dimebag went by Diamond. In any case, I'd argue that once they dropped the glam pretenses, they veered more towards their own sound and less about whatever was popular at the time. And somewhere in between VDP and FBD they really came out with a unique sound.
@@johnseward2934 you sound more educated on pantera than I am, so I'll take your word for it
Rex Brown is one of the most under rated bass players...ever 🔥
Rex is a killer multi instrumentalist in general. He plays a lot of guitar on Pantera songs in parts people don't even realize and wrote his share of riffs as well
Rex is amazing and his tone in this song isn't hard to achieve at all his setup is typically very simple, there are a few tracks he does some silly tone stuff but he's pretty much got that same tone over multiple albums
💯
agreed. You'd have to be a beast to keep up with Dime and carry the groove in all the solo sections.
Rex is why I picked up bass over guitar. I dont regret it.
Pantera Slowburn!!!! They were a phenomenal band with some of the nicest and greatest guys ever!!!!
Definitely! I had backstage passes to meet Dime and Vinny, and they stayed there for 6 hours talking to everyone and doing shots with the fans. And Dime made sure everyone got a chance to talk to him and get his autograph. The sun was coming up before they left, because they made damn sure nobody left disappointed!
Really good guys, the Abbott brothers were!
I believe Meshuggah credited Pantera's tightness and energy at live concerts as a major influence for their cohesiveness when playing live.
Interesting. I love Catch 33 and Immutable
@@dan.j.boydzkreationz amazing albums
two of the best right there. /m\eshuggah are from a diff planet
Meshuggah just kills it live, freight train.
@@opart Absolute Swedish MetalGods.
Rex Brown does not get the respect he deserves. His style of Bass playing and his tone are unmatched in this genre. Gibson did a great episode of Icons with Rex on their RUclips channel. Worth the watch on your own time.
Terry Date says he's the best he's worked with!!
Agreed! The descending acoustic riff under the first solo in Cemetery Gates was his as well. "Icons: Rex Brown of Pantera" is well worth a watch
Yes! Pantera Slow Burn 😁
I know he would love their version of Planet Caravan 🤘🏽🤘🏿🤘🏼
@@hunglikeahorse---fly fuckin stellar cover, Phil has sounded amazing performing that shit lately too for those pantera shows.
What's a Slow Burn?
@@godagon97 he's done some videos where he listens to several recommended tracks by the same band. Slow burn is a bit of an odd description, but the videos are obviously longer, so I guess they feel less snappy. Dunno.
Definitely need a pantera slowburn!!!
Yes!
Mouth for war
This love
The great southern trendkill
Floods
Cemetary gates
The kids father said " I just want 5 minutes alone witht that Phil Anselmo.". Phil's lawyer replied " No you dont." Phil was not someone to mess with.
He could def hold his own lol, I wouldn't fuck with phil
•is not
Yeah Phil used to box he'd knock that old man on his ass
Phil's shadow boxing looks tight still tl this day.
My thoughts were "this guy has never seen a Pantera video"... Hahaha
Pantera slow burn!!! Please do "This Love" as one of the tracks!
Seconded.
Terry Date is such a phenomenal producer. Has/had so much influence on some of the greatest hard rock/metal albums of all time.
Massive producer
The "sizzle" in Phil's voice...a consistent regimen of cigarettes and Jack Daniels. There will never be another Pantera. I'm not even gonna rec songs, whatever you pick for a deep dive will be an epic experience. The only other band I could say that about is the Melvins, but they will never attract the masses...whatever, just means I'll always be able to afford tickets 🤘
RIP Dimebag. And may King Buzzo live forever!!!
Nah. Phil spent a long time mastering Judas Priest vocals as well as others and figured out techniques no one else has.
Phil's current voice caused by drugs and alcohol. Not the Pantera days. That was all technique, skill, and genetics.
Agreed. King Buzzo for the win!
Please Pantera Slow Burn!!!!! All Right!!!!
Pantera Slow Burn!
PANTERA SLO BURN!!!!!!!!!!!
Pantera slow burn!!!
the music video is the epitome of heavy metal perfection.
Pantera Slow Burn! ..Lol, might even need 2 Pantera slow burns. 😜🤘
this album is a master class in metal.. definitely worth a slow burn!! the groove in Shedding Skin is soooo good! this was great, thank you
FLOODS, FLOODS,FLOODS
Floods yes!
@@der_pinguin44 +1
Pantera definitely were inspired by Sabbath. The groove metal thing is an offshoot of ZZ Top, Mountain and Thin Lizzy - bands that folks probably wouldn't put in the same wheelhouse as bands like Pantera but the influence is definitely there
I wouldn't call groove metal an offshoot of that style (it's much more a thrash offshoot, imo), but those bands were definitely a major influence
EVH is Dimebag's idol and biggest musical influence.
The magic in Dime's fingers was all southern blues rock feel, with a touch of EVH in there too.
Groove metal…ZZ TOP? THIN LIZZY not MOUNTAIN are merely. WOW!
Absolutely! Riff and groove -wise they were way closer to zz top or zeppelin than, say, Slayer or anything like that. I even recall Jeff Hanneman saying he's not a big Pantera fan because it's "too bluesy" haha
Oh I'm first on this one! Lol. Pantera was big in my metal upbringing 🤘🤙
Dime played Randall solid state amps for most of his career. He actually had a signature model called Warhead. He only switched to Krank hybrid tube/solid state at the end while in Damage Plan. I used to love the tone I got from my Randall, but it was just too quiet to compete with our other guitarist's Peavey 5150+.
And the Randall combos would scream just as much as a stack, worked in a music store and we got some in and it was better than the Marshall combos we had.
I think he used tube on Reinventing The Steel
@@Ebastine Nope, it was a Randall Warhead, solid state
@@Ebastine Dime only played solid state when in Pantera.
Edit: just saw someone else answered your
Rocked a 5150 in my heyday. Was a nice blend of nasty with the follow through of a tube amp. The Zao guitarist Scott talked me into the 5150.
So many of the RUclips channels I follow have Pantera content lately, I'm loving it. They're one of the most influential bands in modern metal IMO.
Of course everyone has Pantera content atm. They're "touring" for the first time in 20+ years
They are THE MOST influential, cemetery gates pretty much invented metal core and they created groove metal
@@isopropyltoxicity *cemetery gates pretty much invented metal core*
Very interesting take. I've not heard or considered that. I'm not so sure I can agree, but I can't say I disagree either because I don't know. Just an interesting perspective you brought up! One thing is for certain, any time Numbered Days by Killswitch Engage comes on, for some reason I always think it's a Pantera song.
Bought this album the night it dropped (@ midnight) my copy was only on the shelf for literally one second. Employee put in the shelf and I was standing there to snatch it up.
Love Pantera , seen them numerous times.
I’m quite sure the reason for the sudden interest being show for Pantera is due to Phil and Rex (singer and bassist) are touring as Pantera again!
With Zack Wilde attempting to fill Dimes shoes(no haters, I love Zack but…. )
And Charlie Benante from Anthrax in Vinnes place behind the kit.
And I don’t think many would have an issue with a
PANTERA
SLOW BURN!!!!
Awwwright !!!🤙
LMAO as bad ass as Zakk is, there was no way he was not going to get a lot of doubters shitting on him, even if he sounded identical to Dime, there are fans who are just so protective of Dimebag's legacy, Zakk was always going to get shit on for taking this gig. I actually have loved Zakk's "Pantera" performances so far from clips I've heard, but I've seen a lot of bitching by others..
They should not call it Pantera. If they want to call it a tribute or whatever, fine, but to pretend it is Pantera without the Abbott brothers is a travesty and they should be ashamed.
@@Gary_M You're entitled to that opinion but I just don't see the harm in the reunion/tribute tour under the name Pantera. It IS a reunion for Phil and Rex, and it's also a tribute to the Abbott Bros. Like what exactly is it taking away from their legacy for them to use the name? Do you not see how much of a tragedy it would have been for this not to happen? This is reviving Pantera/Dime/Vinnie's legacy. Pantera was becoming forgotten in the metal community, with no new fans being gained. Now TONS of new Pantera fans are being created with these shows and the clips on youtube. People who had never listened to Pantera before are now buying the albums, again, reviving Dime and Vinnie's legacy.
@@williamcozart8158 That's BS it's nothing but a cynical, greedy money grab and it is extremely obvious.
@@Gary_M so are you denying that a whole shitload of new Pantera fans are being created by this tribute/reunion?
Damn do I miss Vinnie and Dimebag 🤘🏼🤘🏿🤘🏽
Same.
@Dance Walker Tarot for two people I have never personally met, they both had such a HUGE influence on who I am today!!
@@hunglikeahorse---fly Me too. No lie. I found a lot of self empowerment through their music. (Best live shows I've ever seen too.)
The new lineup is just not good enough tbh. Zack Wylde sounded sloppy like Kirk Hammett does now, the drumming wasn't tight enough and Anselmo had the audience singing nearly half the lyrics, and sounded his age. Not up to task. The old band were supreme.
@@dan.j.boydzkreationz With ALL do respect to those guys as artists, I could never. I already know I'd probably just walk out. How the fuck you gunna Dimebag? Lol. Only Dimebag can Dimebag. Same with his brother.
What a groove 🔥🤘🏻
MERCYFUL FATE - A Dangerous Meeting!
Pantera slow-burn!!!
PANTERA SLOWBURN!!!!!!🤘😈🤘
Far Beyond Driven is such a dark record with nothing but awesome tracks.
Lots of groove and badass riffs right until Planet Caravan (Black Sabbath) closes off another great Pantera-chapter!
Another solid breakdown Geebz!
Yeah, Far Beyond Driven is probably my favorite overall Pantera album. So many fucking gnarly tunes packed into one album
The concert I seen at the Blockbuster Pavillion in NC in support of this album was intense and insane. Never meet such an awesome group with a lot of heart.
YES ✓YES ✓ Pantera Slow burn!!! 💯
fu**ing hostile is a musthave)
Terry Date produced some of the best albums of the '80's and 90's, including this one. In fact, he produced every single Pantera album.
Pantera Slow Burn!!!
Floods needs to be in your slow burn it was voted one of the greatest guitar solos of all time.
I agree a slow burn of Pantera would be awesome. I recommend
CEMETERY GATES (full version)
MOUTH FOR WAR
SLAUGHTERED
FLOODS
GODDAMN ELECTRIC
Goddamn electric is Mad underrated.
Vinnie flipping the beat upside down is one of my favorite things of this song - I'm glad to see it grab someone else for the first time.
Yay! Pantera! I hope you do a tune from The Great Southern Trendkill. How about the title track or 13 Steps to Nowhere?
Pantera slow burn??? YES PLEASE!!!!
Maybe the demand is coming because we just passed the anniversary of Dimebag's onstage murder? Definitely recommend any Pantera tracks, and a Slow Burn would be amazing for many reasons.🤘
As far as I know, Dime always used Randall Solid State heads. Terry Date produced Pantera along with the drummer, Vinnie Paul.
I was introduced to Pantera in 1992 by a metal head in my art class and I will never forget the first time I heard "Mouth for War".
They were like nothing out there at the time. Shaped a lot of our musical tastes for a lifetime.
@@zachscott4867 well, until the Triple Rectifier came along and dominated the scene for a decade or so.
Merry Christmas 🎄... Can't go wrong with Pantera. So many great songs, great live band and a cool guys when I met them.
I've never seen someone say dimebag was a dick, I've heard peeps call Phil a dick but dime loved the fans man so did vinnie
That groove of Vinnie! Like he's afloat in everything he does!

Love your reactions my friend.
13 steps to nowhere, in my opinion is the best song they have. The intro alone is BOSS.
The album and the mood on it is great
Yes, Dimebag used mostly solid state Randalls, but got his own signature Krank tubehead right before his death.
Album was written and recorded in two weeks and was the number one album on the album charts.
I love your content man, and I love that you’re getting into PanterA! Just a thought on my part, if you dig deeper into Pantera. I suggest dabbling a little bit into each album. They were so diverse from album to album - style progression and engineering both. I’ve followed and watched your content for some time, and I really think you would love/ enjoy their progression over the years. 🤘🤙😎
Anyway, my humble suggestion if you choose to explore more Pantera (please do! haha).. Just some pick and choose options for songs from each album..
Take one step back from Far Beyond Driven, and check out:
Vulgar Display of Power (between albums Cowboys From Hell, and Far Beyond Driven)-
• A New Level
• By Demons be Driven
Then jump forward to The Great Southern Trendkill-
• Drag the Waters (stellar engineering)
• Floods (A MUST)
• 13 Steps to Nowhere
• Underground in America
Reinventing The Steel-
• Revolution Is My Name
• It Makes Them Disappear
Just some humble thoughts from a long time PanterA fan. I think you would enjoy all the diversity within this one band alone.
DEFINITELY NEED A SLOWBURN!
Getcha pull!
Have known this track for years and only just consciously noticed the little drum trick and the bass during the solo as you pointed them out, thank you 😁
And hell yeah to Pantera slowburn!
Pantera reinvited themselves and became a legend. Never too late for all of us to start over and try something new.
Pantera slow burn!!! 100% into that idea - one of my favorite bands regardless of genre. As far as metal goes, definitely #1.
LOL , This will be good!!
Hell yeah, what a great track. Great job Geebz.
Pantera Slo Burn for sure!! Primal Concrete Sledge, This Love, Domination...so many great ones to choose from. I knew you'd love Rex and his bass sound! The world of metal would be a different landscape without Dime. One of the best that ever was.....❤️
i love primal concrete, such a cool vibe to that song, also the outro to medicine man is so cool!
You have to be one of the first people to give Rex Brown an acknowledgement on the solo of this song.. he always jammed/grooved and more people need to acknowledge that!
Pantera really had it all. They created grove metal. You hear that swing they have highlighting their southern musical influences.
Floods! Glad to see so many requests for it, I didn't realize so many people felt the same.
Pantera booiiii!! Getcha pull!! 🤘🏻🤘🏻
Good metal morning from New England... Yes Dime used solid state RANDALL AMPS....Some Pantera to start my day doesn't get any better...Good times and good vibes...GEBBZ I Left A COMMENT IN THE COMMUNITY TAB ABOUT STONED JESUS HAVING DROPPED A NEW SONG A FEW MONTHS AGO... YOU SHOULD CHECK IT OUT BRO...IF YOU LIKED THE PRODUCTION AND PLAYING ON I AM THE MOUNTAIN you'll definitely dig this... Peace...
By the Gods, I can see you in the moment, "reading" all the sounds you hear. You help justify what we fans have felt since day one. Thank you.
One of the top 5 metal bands ever; period.
Good call on Black Sabbath! They cover Planet Caravan on this album, I highly recommend it! This has always been my favorite Pantera album, I have it signed by the entire band from meeting them back in the day!
Darrell "Dimebag" Abbott is the reason I picked up a guitar. I first learned about metal back in like 1991 when my best friend at the time played me his brothers copy of Master of Puppets. Battery came on and my little mind was blown. Fast forward to 1999, freshman in highschool, I meet a bunch of new friends one of whom plays far beyond drive for me. It was just as life altering as master of puppets for me. The tones. The squeals (harmonics), the blues influence, it had things I didnt know exsisted. Far Beyond Drive is one of my favorite albums of all time and Dimebags death hit me so damn hard. RIP you guitar god
This was the first track I ever heard of what became my favorite band. Great vid!
Pantera is amazing AF
I’d strongly suggest checking out some tracks from 101 proof (live album). “Suicide note 2” is the epitome of a tight band, but maybe not as groovy/listener friendly.
That was the first Pantera CD I bought. I had heard some stuff, mostly Cemetary Gates and a couple MTV vids, I think Broken This Love and Walk, but the live 101 Proof versions were the first I heard aside from those, and it is still the best "live" record I have ever heard. I mean it's not technically live, they tracked all the instruments like they would do in a studio and used the best takes from each instrument from a bunch of different live shows and blended them together to get the best performances mixed together like an album. Something like that..
Something from The great southern trendkill
Thanks
Favorite Pantera song and a friggin awesome video!
Let’s just take a minute to appreciate Terry Date who put all this energy and anger to tape. Defo a huge part of the Pantera sound. SLO burn for sure though. That’s a given 😜🙌👏👏👏🤘
Yes Terry date was a monster of a producer including Metal Church,Soundgarden, Dream Theater, OverKill, Prong, along with Pantera! What an incredible searing sound he created for Pantera...... Definitely Slow burn!
"I ask you please just give us..." - This part gets me riled up the most.
I love how clear the guitar tones are.
About time, gramps Geebz!
You absolutely nail it each time out. Fun to watch someone who can live in a song simply because they understand music, arrangements and engineering.
I’m so happy that you loved the groove section just before the breakdown and solo. Just a little play on the pre-verse lead in riff, and then Dimebag, Rex, Vinnie Paul turn it in to bad-ass groove. I love Vinnie Paul just wrappin’ on the ride bell. As a 17 year old musician back in the mid 90s, I always wanted that section to be longer. But now as an adult musician (is 45 considered an adult…???😂), with many years of playing, listening and touring, and blah blah blah, that section is absolutely perfect. Not a minute less, not a minute more.
Bro, you gotta check out The Floods by Pantera next time. It's Dimebag Darrell's masterpiece. The solo will make your eyes tear up, knowing what happened to Dime!
Hey brother, what did I win? How do I get it?
Dimes masterpiece was the sleep on cowboys! Dime had many unreal solos that's what made him a legend. 10s is also epic.
One of the most iconic metal albums of all time and peak Pantera. They still made some good music after this but it was obvious that the drugs were really taking a toll on the band. The production on the next album was notably worse as well.
Vinnie and Dime were riff and breakdown masters. They just knew how to best compliment each other
if you like the slow stompy style i recommend cannibal corpse - from skin to liquid. deathmetal is what catapulted me from just playing guitar into full on musicianship, playing in bigbands, being a teacher and so on.
Great tunes plenty of them
Absolutely love that Terry Date production & that heavy but gooey bass tone from that era.
Please give us that slow burn Pantera!
You got plenty of fades in underground metal today! Awesome as always Geebz.
yeah dimebag played through randall solid state amps because he liked how the gain sounded. floods by pantera is one masterpiece.
Far Beyond Driven is my favorite album from Pantera. Not one bad track
Grazie.
Thanks!
As a Pantera fan since 1994 (this album hooked me), I gotta be different than all the other commenters here and recommend Pantera's awesome cover of "Planet Caravan".
epic track is online)
PANTERA SLOW BURN!!! Merry Christmas to you and yours, Geebz.
This is groove metal, at its finest. This track always makes me think of HELMET, with the staccato, start/stop feel. Rex Brown is underrated. He had to hold it down, while Dime was shredding solos. Yes, Dime used solid state Randalls. I've never understood the hate for solid state amps. I like mine just fine, and there's no tubes to worry about. About the back story; I don't think anyone in their right mind wants 5 minutes alone with Phil. Talk about an intimidating figure. 🤙🏼
This track just sounds really good
🤘PANTERA SLOW BURN for sure!!!😅 love that sound! Aaaawriiight! 😎
Keep doing Pantera songs Geebz!!!
The track Immortally Insane is seriously underrated in the Pantera catalog.
CFH 🤘
Old school plenty of good tunes enjoy
Rex really shines on this song.
HEELLL'S YES! PANFUCKINTERA! Slowburn!!!
More Pantera Please 🙏 thanks 😊
