I love it but if you're gonna break down songs like this you should talk about the specific music theory that applies to the note choices relative to these riffs, or how some of the key changes work, and the dynamics of the rhythm, like time signature changes, transitions, or tempo changes. These are masterpieces for a reason, just talk about a small percentage of the genius of the composition itself atleast.

Marty Friedman was unleashed like hell, every tune is a monster, and the phrasing from the guitars and the vocals is amazing!!! Would love to see you do some Nile!!! Maybe Those Who The Gods Detest?? Truly a masterpiece. I never tire of reactions, breakdowns or anyone making videos on it. This is first time I recall someone mentioning the bass though. Would love to see more videos on Megadeth.👍
The rythm parts behind the Marty's solos is really interesting from a composition stand point. The suspended chords Dave uses are really cool sounding. Marty's solos are so amazing that it overshadows the rythm parts. The fact that he goes E minor to the relative G major and uses the Bb SUS 2 and the chromatic run from e back up to G is brilliant. All minor 3rds apart with cool chord voicings. It's just not talked about enough

Not sure if the band Erra is on the scrolls of your journey, but I'd absolutely love love to see you tackle a few of their tracks. Starting off I'd have to recommend starting with The Hypnotist. Jesse is the mad lad that's somehow playing the crazy tapping riffs while singing all the clean vocals at the same time. After you do The Hypnotist there's a couple on their new self titled album you have to hear too. One is called Scorpion Hymn, and the other is called Memory Fiction. Love these guys pushing new ground for progressive metalcore! Aloha and awwwright!
fastest ive clicked yet lmao love the comments on their nuanced style of play i love that too and it was for sure inspiring to many people, would love to see you take a look at Tremonti - Marching in Time btw because it has a great song structure that id love to hear you pick apart
Good to see you do this track, it's one of Megadeth's essentials! Just a FYI, the version of this song you're listening to is, I believe, the somewhat divisive 2004 remaster where Dave re-recorded the vocals or something, so it does sound noticeably different and more 'modern' than the 1990 original.
Megadeth!! Great song great band, especially live! froma Fellow Aries 3-22, I recently purchased the AKG 240's and absolutely love them! Keep rocking the videos! Aloha!
Rust really is one of, if not their best albums for sure. Holy Wars, IMO, easily the best song they ever recorded and is top 3 metal tracks ever. Anyone that want to know what metal is…play them Holy Wars.
I believe this is the remastered version (given the cringy, more pronounced vocal overdubs at places like 5:57) which actually sounds worse to me than the original because it features re-recorded vocals if I'm not mistaken. anyway thanks Geebz!
It is the remastered version which doesn’t have the same crisp vocals and guitar work. They tried to clean up the voice and drums and bass and messed the overall quality of the song up. Still sounds good just doesn’t hit the same as the original or vinyl versions
Definitely hate what they did in most of the remasters, the best compliment I've heard is that some of them 'aren't necessarily worse than the originals by much'. The worst part is you can't get any of the originals on streaming services
I think Dave’s vocal just works really well with the instrumentals in Megadeth songs. It doesn’t really matter so much about whether or not he’s considered a good singer.
I really like your enthusiasm when you speak. I might check your other channel just to expand my musical taste..I am mostly metal, jazz and proge fan. Not so much for K-Pop etc but I consider checking just because your enthusiasm(what is other word for enthusiasm in English. I said that earlier and I dont want to use same word multiple times(English is not my native language))
Dave’s voice certainly is a love/hate thing, but he was a big Alice Cooper fan. Keep that in mind and you’ll hear it, he puts drama into it in a very similar way
I hear so much Megadeth influence in the metal music of that last 15-20 years, more so than any of the other members of the big 4 and I feel a lot of that has to do with composition and diversity within the song writing. Also thank you Geebz for pointing out how good Dave's voice really is, I really don't think people realize how good of a vocalist Dave was and you could really tell he put in work to improve after Killing is My Business.
My MEgadeth journey started with Countdown To Extinction that I absolutley love! Somehow I didn't listen to this album until many years later. Killer song and album!
Hell yes! An undisputed thrash classic. I'm once again going to push for a reaction to Wilderun, and I'll probably keep bringing it up until it happens. :D "Far From Where Dreams Unfurl', and probably the lead-in track 'Scentless Core (Budding)' as well to get the full effect. (You could probably throw in 'Scentless Core (Fading)' to get the full suite.) DOOOOO IIIIIIIIT
I remember going to Metal for Melbourne in Banana Alley to get this album the day of release. Catching the train home to listen to it took a fucking life time. Best Thrash album of all time
I gotta say that this is my very first time hearing a Megadeth song. Pretty impressed I must admit. This sounds phenomenal for a song 30 years or so old. Production is tip top. I dunno why I never listened to Megadeth. I guess hearing Metallica on the radio at 13 years old was about as "metal" as I got, well, until I heard Death's "Human" album a few years after. That changed EVERYTHING for me. But this song has me curious to hear this album, as some people here are saying it's their best. 🤙🏼 🤘🏻
Megadeth is one of the greatest metal bands of all time, across all sub-genres, mostly fueled by Mustaine's neverending need to be bigger and better than Metallica in every single facet. More speed, more technical prowess, more in your face energy. Even their 90s stuff (which also sucks) is more intense than Metallica, almost like he's trying to prove he's more metal. Is it childish? Yea, but it's a helluva motivator...
@@mpk33 lol. Yea, exactly. It's also interesting (at least to me) how much Kill'em All sounds like a Megadeth album. So, once you've given their 80s output a listen or two, go back and listen to that first Metallica album and tell me with a straight face that Mustaine didn't write at least half of it. But yet Lars and James talk like Mustaine was nothing but a drain and problem the whole time. Lol. Kirk is only in the band because Lars and James needed someone controllable that had zero ambition that would not challenge them anymore. It's all right their on that first Metallica album between the lines.
@@jasonGamesMaster I've never really been a fan of theirs tbh. Music's pretty good, but I've never really stanned them. I like And Justice For All... & heard the Black album to death as a teen in the early 90s, but I don't consider them a band I like like, despite their legend status. What other people consider their greatest metal band of all time (Metallica/Megadeth/Slayer/Sabbath etc.) for me is Meshuggah. They've been blowing my mind ever since I first heard them in '96. The first proper metal band I heard to me was Death in around '94. I was still into alternative & grunge at that time. I think the heaviest gateway band into death metal for me was Fear Factory. Demanufacture is still one of my fave metal albums of all time.
@@mpk33 Demanufacture is fucking gold. I'm just a bit younger than you from the sound of it. Raised on a steady stream of classic rock like Zeppelin, Deep Purple, and Black Sabbath (thanks mom and dad). I got into metal more proper with Metallica and for a few years they were the pinnacle. I do suggest you check out Kill'em All, Ride the Lightning, and Master of Puppets... if only to see how far they fell. My first real metal bands were At The Gates and In Flames, both of which I found thanks to Napster (lol) and remembering the names on kickass tshirts from the mall lol. After In Flames betrayed me lol I dug more into death metal like Amon Amarth and bands like Animals as Leaders. Current faces are probably Ne Obliviscaris and Amorphis. As you can possibly see, i like a little melody in my metal, lol. Anyway, enjoy diving into thrash!
Wow, you're right, this remastered version is tight and punchy. And good as this sounds, I think I still prefer the original. Also, 9:08, that part you're talking about, the main riff that starts after "messenger of God." -->(7:04 - 7:12)
Great vid man. As a huge Megadeth fan, I think Holy Wars is one of the best opening tracks on an album, and Rust In Peace as a whole is a pure metal masterpiece!!! I believe it is the the best thrash album ever created.
The rhythm section could play jazz, give them stimulants and front them with a machine in Mustaine who had insane focus and drive and this is what you get, deadly!
@@serpentinefire921 There's good info in Dave's autobiography. I know Chris Poland and Gar Samuelson were both jazz musicians who were out of work when they joined Megadeth. Metal was getting really popular, so they redirected their skills that way. I've seen Rick Beato talk about Marty's style as "gypsy jazz" in his What Makes This Song Great: Megadeth episode (he toured with them as a supporting act and would play daily with Marty on Megadeth's tour bus). Can't remember too clearly about Nick, but I'm sure there's some info in the book, and as for Jr., I don't think he had jazz training, he was/is just really good.
I kinda missed the Megadeth era because of work and raising a family. I knew all about the Metallica exit and heard a few popular Megadeth hits but......This was my first time hearing this banger! As a musician of 55yrs of various instruments I'm blown away at the drive of this tune. As Geebz was letting on. This tune has a TON of swirling embers in the fire! Had the pleasure of seeing this lineup quite a few times. Incredible live band!!
They start a summer tour next week co headlining with Lamb of God and supported by Hatebreed, Trivium and In flames.
How did I miss this!?? Such a great album. Such a great song.
Aloha!
Rust in Peace album is easily top three of all time for me.
Yes, cringey effects on vocals, lyric changes in Five Magics and a very weird mix on the drums.
The original mix is orders of magnitude better.
Yeah. Remastered version is horrible.
It is the remastered version which doesn’t have the same crisp vocals and guitar work. They tried to clean up the voice and drums and bass and messed the overall quality of the song up. Still sounds good just doesn’t hit the same as the original or vinyl versions
Absolutely the remaster. Wish geebs would have listened to the original. I have the cd that I ripped to make sure I always have it on hand.
It works with the music. Especially the first 4 albums
I'm so interested to hear his evaluation of this song. Tons of musical depth
Scott Ian from Anthrax says Megadeth is a jazz band that went thrash .
This album is one of my holy grails to get on vinyl, Hanger 18 and Holy Wars are absolutely killer tracks.
Keep that in mind and you’ll hear it, he puts drama into it in a very similar way
I love Dave's voice, it suits the music. His voice is like music to my ears.
This was the first song i played in the jukebox when entered the local bar for years. Miss the bar..
I hear so much Megadeth influence in the metal music of that last 15-20 years, more so than any of the other members of the big 4 and I feel a lot of that has to do with composition and diversity within the song writing.
Also thank you Geebz for pointing out how good Dave's voice really is, I really don't think people realize how good of a vocalist Dave was and you could really tell he put in work to improve after Killing is My Business.
wow cool to see the sun show itself right in the middle of this video.... love your vids man
PANTERA!! Please.🤘
My MEgadeth journey started with Countdown To Extinction that I absolutley love! Somehow I didn't listen to this album until many years later. Killer song and album!
Jelusick - Healer
Dino Jelusick is a new member of Whitesnake.
You won't regret it !
Loving the channel 🧡
Been listening to "Rust In Piece" all day. Get home and see this!!!
I love this song. One of first that I learned to play when I got my first electric guitar.
R.I.P Nick Menza you were the backbeat to so many metal anthems
Wilderun definitely needs more popularity. All their albums are masterpieces.
@@gabolujan That's the truth. The toughest part is picking just one of their songs to react to!
Truly a pinnacle album for them. Mind freaking blowing !
@@jasonGamesMaster I guess you would too if you had millons of people laughing & saying how you suck since the 80s...
I believe it is the the best thrash album ever created.
the riff after the solo is one of the most badass riffs to ever exist
The rhythm section could play jazz, give them stimulants and front them with a machine in Mustaine who had insane focus and drive and this is what you get, deadly!
Whered you get that? I know nick had some jazz drummers as idols but ive never heard of either of them being jazz trained
@@siskovich daves book got it
Deadly
Been listening to that song since high school in the 90s…
"This has been a non stop riff machine gun" ... but wait there's MORE
Need a reaction to their debut album
Usually hate remasters but the latest remaster of KIMB really shows just how amazing the band was from the jump
one of the best metal songs ever. Lyrics and musically. lyrics still hold today
I'm not sure if even Dave knew what was going on when he recorded this. The precision of cadence's and attacks he sneaks in during the solo's and change-ups is amazing! I'll buy this one and stick it on the playlist for sure.
A masterpiece, R.I.P. Mr. Nick Menza...
How didn't t you go into metal after hearing this is beyond me
'Sound track of my life band' :) The first time I heard this song it was on a cassette, being played in a dumpster with some friends skipping study hall :)
Hell yeah! New album soon! 😎
Idk if you do mashups, but I'd love to see what you think of "Eminence of Holy Wars and Creeping Death" by Bill McClintock

Love ya geebz ✌
As a veteran thrash metal guitarist, I have found practicing metal on an acoustic guitar gave me more stamina when in band practice or playing live.
Brother it is so good hey. Keep the pace up!
thanks yes the bass/drums only version is very good
