    Tanner - I have discovered that I can take my dirty mat to the kitchen sink put a few drops of Dawn dish soap on it & rub it around the my fingertips - no scraping needed if there is more heavier area needing cleaning I just add a couple more drops of dawn. I lightly rub with my fingertips for a few seconds , rinse them off . Time maybe 1 to 2 minutes max, let them dry then they are perfectly sticky & ready to use or put the clear cover back on to store for next project. It works great.

    I’ve done this and even if my mats lost the sticky it was easy to put the sticky back on,... but also for people wanting to save money, Cricut’s are plotters, 12x12 plotter mats are cheap on amazon for sets of 4- they are labeled too for cricut or silhouette, I’ve used many off brands and was happy and saved money on mats. I never throw mats out, I never have a problem, so passing it on so you too can save aNd be happy with your plotter tools.

    I found that using SCOTCH BRITE 50% STICKIER lint roller sheets work the best. I take the roll off the handle and just roll it over the mat by hand. You can use the cheapo ones from the dollar store, but you get what you pay for. Don't forget to clean the clear plastic protective sheet too...it gets mucky also.

    I was told by a woman who runs a Cricut group that the company informed her that using Totally Awesome, and other cleaners, could void the Maker’s warranty. I did want to risk this, but finally decided to try cleaning the mat like so many others do. I was able to scrape away build up immediately using the large Cricut scraper. Some of the mat also came up, but not in large areas. This is with the blue mat. The mat became sticky again once dry. It is not as sticky as it previously was, though it still holds down the vinyl in most areas. Once the stick is gone I am going to try spraying the mat with adhesive spray, as many have suggested. For now I will use painter’s tape when needed before opening and using another mat.

    I have the newer fabric grip mats and I was worried to do this after reading some comments. But it actually worked great. I did it in the sink: spray, run water, light circles with a veggie cleaning brush from the dollar store. It all came right off... I tried just dish soap and warm water previously and it did hardly anything. I use the mats for felt and the stickiness that remained isn’t as it was brand new, but significantly better than the Cricut recommended method. I’m psyched!

    I love Awesome cleaner, especially the price, but it's meant to be diluted. At full strength it removes spray paint from Michaels store shelves, which is how I learned about it in the first place. As another person commented, Awesome is meant to be diluted 10:1 for general use; I never need it more concentrated than 4:1 even for the worst mess.

    I just got my Cricut Maker about 2 weeks ago and absolutely love it. However buying new mats is not my top priority as I have 4 boys 11 and under and they need a lot of stuff. So I went to the dollar tree and got the LA's Totally Awesome and tried it (for all those complaining why complain when you would have had to buy a new mat if you didn't try it anyway) and IT WORKED GREAT. My mat is still drying all the way but almost everything came off of it and you can already tell it is still sticky. I didn't leave it on for 10 mins though i only left it on for 8. I also bought some Aleene's Tacky glue just incase the sticky part had come off so I have that for future use if i ever need it. Thank You thank you thank you and i will be watching more of your videos.

    • @jlowe62009

    I just wanna say that Awesome is really awesome. Grease comes off of anything you spray it on so easily. I use it around my whole kitchen. It's amazing. Knowing this scares me because I know how strong it is, so I'd be afraid to ruin my mat. Some of the temperature numbers on my kitchen knobs came off after spraying them with Awesome

    This stuff works on almost everything. 2 years ago we were told about it, when a friend noticed paint splatter on the side of our truck. we used a little of it on there and it came off with out damaging the paint. I swear I need to invest in stock on that company.

    Unless you want to risk having a mat that no longer has any stick at all I would highly advise AGAINST using Awesome or any other chemical cleaner on any of the newer mats that do not have the flower pattern on them. That cleaner is meant to be diluted at like 10-1. Never meant to be used full strength. All you should ever need is lukewarm water and a few drops of dish soap. I have seen dozens of ruined mats where Awesome was used as a cleaner.

    Guys, I tried this and sadly it took the numbers and lines off my mat. I left it on for about 7 minuets and it did clean them and they were sticky after they dried! I don't recommend this. Next time I will try dish soap and water.

    Ok, so I followed your instructions for cleaning the mat and the blue material was coming off while I was scraping it. I tried to scrape it lightly and it was still coming off so I rinse it and lightly wiped it with my finger because even that was making the blue material come off. However, my mat is a bit cleaner now. I'm currently waiting for an hour now to see if it is still sticky. I'm curious, did any of your blue material come off while scraping it? Please be honest.

    Do you think it cleans the mat but messes with the sticky is why they say don't do this or because they maybe want to just buy a new mat because it can mess up the cricut machine in anyway

    • @MakersGonnaLearn
      @MakersGonnaLearn  4 года назад

      It cannot mess up the machine, and I think the biggest reason is that most people apply too much pressure when scraping, which removes layers of adhesive. It requires a light touch to clean the debris off the mat without removing adhesive. It's tricky!

    I see lots of mixed comments. Before I try, was the awesome diluted with water or just straight? Thanks for any responses. 🙂

    • @MakersGonnaLearn
      @MakersGonnaLearn  4 года назад +1

      It was straight! :) No dilution. Just don't let it set on the mats too long, and don't scrape too hard!

    • @MakersGonnaLearn
      @MakersGonnaLearn  3 года назад +1

      Nope. We have complete success with this method. The only reason adhesive would come off is if the person doing this scraped too hard. Hope this helps!

    I used this method and Strong Grip one Light Grip and it worked ok. Got a lot of crud off the mat. Went to do my second Light Grip and two Standard Grips and the May itself started scraping off. Green and blue came right off! Any idea why? Or is there a better way of doing this without destroying my mats?

  • @kevinasantiago8799

    Why do they (cricut) do not recommend crafters to clean the mats? Do they want you to not get more use out of them? They are not cheap. So how do they expect crafters to keep them clean?

    • @MakersGonnaLearn
      @MakersGonnaLearn  4 года назад

      It's simple. Companies want you to buy more of their product! So when your mats become less sticky, they tell you not to clean them, and to just buy more. But we get several more weeks out of them by cleaning them! :)

    Stripped the color off of my mat and I didn’t even scrape the mat. I know this cleaner is powerful and is recommended to dilute it but that was not mentioned in this video. 3 Mats ruined.
