I really enjoyed this video and would like to see more. I laughed when you talked about driving from dollar tree to hobby lobby when they are practically next door 😂! I do the same thing!!! I would like more shopping and comparisons videos from you.
I loved this style of video. Especially with Tanner interacting in the live chat. The video wasn’t drawn out with the interaction with the audience like in the lives, but we still had MGL there to answer questions live. It had a very relaxing vibe.
I'm taking up for Mamaw because when these stores first started that I can remember back in the late 70s or early 80s they were named Everything's A Dollar! Go Mamaw! Stick with it!
Yes. Definitely a difference in quality. You have been the only channel I’ve watched that’s done a true on air comparison! So now I’m wondering about all the channels I’ve heard praise the $ tree product to the utmost😳😏🥴 I’m new to the projects using the machine and equipment so don’t really want to save a dollar and have it be rubbish. I want good quality at an affordable cost for me! I’m going to browse some of your tutorials to see what tips, tricks and ideas I can learn. Appreciate the share🥰
I have a lot of the DT vinyl....I bought it before I got my Cricut for other projects. This is a good video to watch before trying on my Cricut. I actually have tried to use the DT HTV, and it didn't even stick to the mat. It had a ton of bubbles and never would smooth out. I had to scrap the whole roll because I completely ruined it from it's usefulness for other projects just trying to get it on the mat. 😢Thank you, Tanner and the MGL team, for taking the time and effort to make this video! You've saved me a lot of, what could have been, upcoming headaches! I'm disabled and don't have a lot of energy to spend on these things, so your efforts are MUCH appreciated 🥰.
Brand newbie here. Have watched you a little bit before I made my purchase. I've just used my Cricut for the 1st time last week and I had heard that Dollar Tree had vinyl, so not only did I buy Cricut brand but I also bought Dollar Tree brand to practice with. I saw how loose the letters (I cut a phrase) seemed to be the 1st time with the DT brand removable, so I tried it again a 2nd time I just burnished it after I placed it on the blue mat that came with the machine before I cut. That seemed to help a great deal. I had it set to vinyl and the default pressure. After my 3rd try and it finally came out right, I tried it on the Siser brand Glow in the dark white iron on vinyl, mirrored and it came out great! So I would say if nothing else the Dollar Tree is great to use when you are learning so you don't waste so much money on the expensive stuff I also thought I might use the DT vinyl from time to time maybe for a window cling!
Brilliant idea! I bought my cricut air 2 over a year ago but I haven’t been able to open & use it yet .. it will be my first time trying.. so , get the dollar tree brand to get some experience on is great so I don’t waste so much money on the actual brand.. thank you !!
I have not used the DT vinyl yet but I am going to try it. I make a ton of party decorations that just get thrown away after the party day so if this will work for my “disposable projects, that will save a ton of money otherwise Cricut and paper studio are my go to vinyl. Did you try the double sided tape yet? I use it all the time. Love it. Also you may want to give paper studio brand craft supplies a try. Thanks for the comparison
I absolutely adore all of your videos, but this one definitely felt so realistic, and more personal because we've all been to a point of wanting to make fun projects but not having the money to get the right materials to do so. So this video really put that into a very good perspective! I'd love to try this myself and compare, I absolutely would use the dollar store vinyl for stencils. Something quick to put down and then spray over, remove and toss, just so I'm not using up my good stuff. But as an actual product to use for my crafts that I create for my customers, it's not something I'll probably ever use. Buuuut I honestly would have never came to that conclusion without you Tanner! You're amazing, please keep these wonderful videos coming! Definitely would love to see more road trips and comparison videos!!❤🥰 Ooooh one more thing, that amazing face you made while trying to peel back the Cricut vinyl to test the stickiness, I could absolutely relate and feel that look so very much!!! I can't even say how many I've definitely given that exact same look because I couldn't peel that back easily! Love the quality but sometimes can be a little bit of a pain 😂 anyways, you rock! Thank you for being YOU!!❤🥰💕
I agree! I made my daughter a decal before she left for college.... it’s still running strong and she’s about to graduate... only thing is that the purple has faded to white... but in full sun for 4 years... who’d expect anything different.
I used the black glitter vinyl and tested on a cup I got from dollar tree, it's been a month and still on the cup (it has been soak in water for hours, hand wash with soap) and its still on there.
I just did my 1st test with dollar tree vinyl. I used me cricut joy on the regular premium vinyl setting with no issues. I did use my green mat. See if that makes a difference!
This is so cool. I've never seen anything like this before. I keep thinking, what is he going to do with this stuff. Lol! Now I know....and yes, I've been living under a rock. 😎
I agree that it does not work well on small pieces. It would tear while weeding! I bought 10 rolls but works decent on larger projects! I am a regular Dollar Tree shopper and actually love many of their items! Especially since Crafters Square has been born!
I saw another RUclipsr trying this brand of dollar store vinyl... IIRC, she had decent results with the washi tape setting bumped firm to 70 cut depth. Then she created her own “dollar shop vinyl” button si she didn’t need to remember this setting when she used this brand of vinyl. I also want to say that I LOVE LOVE LOVE what you ladies and gentlemen do in your corner of RUclips! Endless creativity, courage, inspiration and feel good vibes is what keeps us making!!!! Xxoo from NY
Tanner, I think this is your best video yet! It was real! We didn’t have to hear you do your sales pitch constantly and you seemed more genuine! Great job!! I figured $🌲 vinyl wouldn’t be great, I thought maybe for stencils.
I absolutely loved this field trip video. So real and fresh. Plus we get to see a different side of you outside of the studio. I've used the Dollar Tree vinyl and glitter vinyl and they both worked great. The only thing I don't like is that they aren't as sticky as the good vinyl. Otherwise everything cut and weeded perfectly. Thank you for this comparison video!! 💖👏👍💖👏👍💖👏👍💖
"Everything's a Dollar!" I heard Dollar Tree is going to be raising their prices soon! Also, I used the dollar tree vinyl for me classroom Bulletin boards because I didn't need it to be the best quality. I cut it on level 7. But, don't use the transfer tape. It leaves a sticky residue. ALSO, also, I made necklaces from those same glass bottles you were looking at! Dollar Tree is within walking distance of my house, so I'm there ALOT!
What transfer material do you use for bulletin boards? I do a lot of classroom doors and decorations and use Walmart contact paper but really have to to re-use it and rub it in my clothes to not tear the bulletin board paper.
I am so glad you done this comparison. I bought some DT vinyl and had so much trouble with it. I am a beginner and so at first I thought I was doing something wrong. but redone my project with Starcraft and no trouble! again Thanks!
I, too, got excited when I saw the Dollar Tree vinyl, and I brought one of each color they had (5 colors, $5 investment). Which wasn't a huge gamble. I am so glad you did this video, as I was disappointed as well, but you know the saying: "you get what you pay for".
I use the dollar tree vinyl and i actually like it buuuuuut, it needs to be cut on the washi setting on low pressure. i have the cricut explore air 2 and it does the job fantastically. i can use the glitter vinyl on my tumblers.
The dollar tree vinyl is not what I want to use for projects, but if I want a removable quick “throw away “ I may consider it. Thank you for the reviews
I can appreciate your attempt to do a comparison video of vinyl. 👍🏼I honestly have not tried EITHER vinyl in my Cricut. (I use to work in a sign shop and prefer Oracal.) The very first thing I noticed that the back of the Cricut vinyl is WHITE when you where testing the stickiness. That definitely attributes to the opacity of the color in dark colors. What concerns me is the lightfastness. With the color being printed onto the vinyl, it may not wear as well. Does it scuff and expose the white? Over time, in sunlight, does it slowly lighten?? The Crafter’s Choice vinyl is the same color all the way through; it would still show scuffs, but no white. I’d be interested in seeing a follow up video when you leave the pot out side for a month or more. (Rotating periodically of course) 🤓
I have created a custom setting when using $ tree vinyl I use a cut pressure of 145 and have no issues…. So far it has stuck to mugs great…. Used glitter on a glass doesn’t stick as well.
paper studio vinyl is a lot like dollar tree's. paper studio tends to tear while weeding. i have had many issues with cricut vinyl as well. so far siser, starcraft, and oracal are the best i've found.
I also like oracal best. Cricut is nice but a bit over rated and so expensive for not much product especially when some projects you end up wasting so much vinyl
I have the Explore machine and cut the DT vinyl on the washi sheet, lightest pressure setting and it works well for me. It can't cut small details well but otherwise I have great luck. I find it works best for things that I am going to seal, such as key fobs with resin or use modge podge or a poly coat over the top. I Love the irredescent one.
I use the dollar tree vinyl and hand cut my unique designs. As an artist who creates her own designs and uses hand tools, the dollar tree vinyl is great. I especially love the elegance of the glitter vinyl. Thank you dollar tree! Btw: I was given the cricut joy as a gift. One try and I knew it wasn’t for me -cricut joy was returned -the freedom to make each piece unique just wasn’t there. The dollar tree transfer paper was too thin -I bought Duck adhesive shelf liner from walmart -It works best. Good luck
I used the Dollar Tree vinyl and was very disappointed! I didn’t think to use the same setting (washi) as you and gave up! Thanks so much for the info! I have a few rolls and i think it will be good for kid’s school projects and putting their names on things in the summer. Thanks! 🔔
@@selesafaye4686 Hi Faye; In the Material Settings, I change it to 70 used Less Pressure and I used the Blue Mat. Hope this helps. I used my Maker Machine.
I used the “Paper” setting on my air 2 machine with dollar tree glitter and it worked perfectly. Now to find a transfer tape that works great with dollar tree vinyl
i use a previously used piece of transfer tape. If I dont have any, I use 2 drops of soap and rub it on there. Then just rinse it off. Once it dries, I use it. It is a LOT less tacky.
Ooooh, I’m not loving the Dollar Tree vinyl. As a “baby designer”, I am still trying to learn how to cut, place, and weed good vinyl. I’d probably have a heart attack with the DT vinyl. Lol! I make tumblers, so every detail matters. *HOWEVER* if I was doing a craft (maybe a farm style tray, or planter) where a lighter color could be used under the DT vinyl, I might be more willing to use it. For now, I’ll stick with the better brands. Thank you so much for doing this comparison tutorial. I greatly appreciate it! Also, you have earned a new subscriber! 🥰
I'm totally ignorant about cricut, i just stumbled on this video. You did a really great job. I really like that you kept trying with the cheaper brand and made it work and that we got to see you have a hard time starting the corner on the thicker one. That's a problem with all kinds of crafts!
Thank you, Tanner, for the thorough comparison! I’ve seen many video comparisons and they only do simple cuts like circles or hearts. But the majority of our projects obviously require lettering and intricate cuts, so I don’t think their test was a true indicator of what we would experience in most of our projects! Your excitement in Dollar Tree and Hobby Lobby is definitely relatable, lol! I also had the same reaction the first time I ran my DT glitter vinyl through my Cricut and cancelled the cut many times. Is there a similar transfer tape that is clear and not too tacky? I guess this is white. I’m looking for something like that but clear so I can still see the design and transfer on bulletin board paper without it ripping the paper when I peel the transfer tape. Thank you!
I use the dollar tree vinyl for a lot for labeling totes and for cheap projects with my 5c year old granddaughter. Plus it does work really well for a inexpensive template when I'm etching glass. I make sure the edges are all sealed and I save a ton of money on throw away templates!
So I love the dollar store vinyl in the right setting! I test cut, it’s awesome! I can see if I like my design and if it’ll go together. It’s even more awesome with the kids! They can use the vinyl and make tags pictures cards for friends…all the things that we wouldn’t have let them use our premium vinyl to make. Would I sell anything with it%? Absolutely not! I’m excited to try stencils and some mixed media applications. I also just got some glitter, my thought in store I’d that on like tags or card the glitter from cricut it just too thick, will this work better if it is thinner? I’m going to try and find out. I also use pretty chunky cuts like a Christmas tree without scroll work. Just my thoughts others might totally disagree. 😀
Im new to vinyl projects and this has been great for practice before I cut. I also have used it on glass blocks for an emergency last min gift and it honestly looked great. I HATE rolls as a newbie tho. Wish they just sold it in sheets.
Loved the road trip to the stores in this video. Dollar Tree also sells leather for cutting machine. It is very thin vinyl and I’ve tried the vinyl but not the leather. Had to use a light pressure cutting on it. But it worked well. I got the dollar tree vinyl to try as a stencil. Worked well for that.
As a beginner and a grandma , you can use this vinyl to practice and it may take a bit of extra work but will not break the bank to use , also for using with the grandkids who want to make things as well , they like simple , like shapes , their name etc , looks like it would be good for that , again it would be a cheaper way to be able to do more project with the kids .
I started watching because I was curious as to why this was recommended this in the suggested below one of my school's major event livestreams, I'm still here because of the way he says vinyl, I just love it
Thank you for this video! I was excited to see the vinyl at the dollar tree also and bought 4 glitter rolls. My first attempt was horrible and I haven't tried again. Now I can try it on the washi setting and see how it goes.
I have put dollar tree vinyl on some glass jars i had and the family has used them several times and they've also been washed in the dishwasher several times. So far so good! I couldn't believe it, lol!
I finally found some at a dollar tree, I tried to cut out similar shape letters with "less" pressure and the same happened, but I tried it out with a bigger shape and it worked out fine
Yes!!! I love it because it's so thin and easy to weed although it may take some serious burnishing but it's great! I didn't think we had any Vinyl in our Dollar stores but my daughter went to a store and found some ..I love it because it so cheap!
I have found if you use the yellow tip blade and less pressure it cuts very well. But it is still a thinner product. I would recommend it for crafts not cups or fabric
Great comparison demo! Although I would love to save money on my vinyl the Dollar Tree vinyl is just too difficult to work with and the quality just isn't there. I don't sell my stuff but I do give away as gifts so this would be a pass for me. However if I needed to do a quick project I'm not saying I wouldn't try it. Thanks!
Thank you for the comparison video actually just bought some Dollar Tree vinyl the other day cuz I just started with the crafting thing. I used it on Dollar Tree wood plaques and it was good for that. I appreciate all your videos they've been very helpful
Please compare Paper Studio Iron-On. I use it almost exclusively at this point, but would love to know how it compares to Cricut, 123 vinyl, etc. Thank you!
I had the same issues with the dollar tree vinyl👍 Thanks for confirming it wasn't just me 😊 having issues. I do, however, recommend it for larger font and for projects that are temporary, this way you don't overspend on a project that isn't meant to last long (Example: Changing a name or date on a poster/sign👍) I love watching your videos too! Thanks for the Cricut hacks, they are greatly appreciated! 😊👍👍
I was looking forward to the glitter vinyl! It's what I was so excited for it. I havn't tried the dollar tree yet but I did buy it tho. I agree I wouldn't use it for anything I was selling or giving, but for seasonal decor at home that I switch often, or labels in my craft room, I'm hoping it works 🙏 thank you tanner for making this video tho. Over a year now and this is the 1st side by side comparison I have seen!
Just found your channel. I shop at DT all the time and I know there's some great buys there plus some things that just waste a dollar. I can't afford a cricuit just yet but definitely want one. I love videos that test DT products...TFS. I have used DT vinyl as a contact paper to cover MDF items. It will bubble and it is thin and will tear easily but I have been able to work around those things. Nobody should expect something that only costs $1 to greatly compare to higher quality items. Already subscribed to your channel!!!
I have the explore air 2 & I have found the Best setting for $tree vinyl is "Window Cling". I did a very intricate flower cut and it worked pretty well . Hope this helps.
Love that idea. 👍🏼 I am definitely trying ‘window cling’. Makes sense, since window cling is also a less sticky material.

Thank you!
I use the washi tape setting. Works pretty darn well!
I love you Tanner! I rewinded the video just to see your face when you were peeling the vinyl off the backing. 😂😂😂
Haha!
I loved this style of video. Especially with Tanner interacting in the live chat. The video wasn’t drawn out with the interaction with the audience like in the lives, but we still had MGL there to answer questions live. It had a very relaxing vibe.
Yay!
I'm taking up for Mamaw because when these stores first started that I can remember back in the late 70s or early 80s they were named Everything's A Dollar!
Go Mamaw! Stick with it!
So exciting, have so much fun getting crafty!
Tanner, this was a great comparison demo. I especially enjoyed the fact that you weren't talking over loud music. Good job!
The Hobby Lobby Paper Studio vinyl is amazing! I used the leopard print (gold and silver) HTV to make sweatshirts and they were amazing!
Yes. Definitely a difference in quality.
You have been the only channel I’ve watched that’s done a true on air comparison!
So now I’m wondering about all the channels I’ve heard praise the $ tree product to the utmost😳😏🥴
I’m new to the projects using the machine and equipment so don’t really want to save a dollar and have it be rubbish. I want good quality at an affordable cost for me!
I’m going to browse some of your tutorials to see what tips, tricks and ideas I can learn.
Appreciate the share🥰
I loved this video. You seem so relaxed! It was wonderful to hang out with you like this!
So glad!
Thank you. I got Cricut maker before Covid and still haven’t used it. I’ll go to Dollar Tree and get some practice supplies.
You’re adorable taking your Mamaw shopping, no matter the place. She’s blessed!
Definitely would love to see more road trips and comparison videos!!❤🥰
Ooooh one more thing, that amazing face you made while trying to peel back the Cricut vinyl to test the stickiness, I could absolutely relate and feel that look so very much!!! I can't even say how many I've definitely given that exact same look because I couldn't peel that back easily! Love the quality but sometimes can be a little bit of a pain 😂 anyways, you rock! Thank you for being YOU!!❤🥰💕
Paper studio works perfect and cost less. I work at hobby lobby. Love it
I agree! I made my daughter a decal before she left for college.... it’s still running strong and she’s about to graduate... only thing is that the purple has faded to white... but in full sun for 4 years... who’d expect anything different.
Yes please! More comparisons. It's great to know as much as possible about all of the available products.
Yes!!!
I used the black glitter vinyl and tested on a cup I got from dollar tree, it's been a month and still on the cup (it has been soak in water for hours, hand wash with soap) and its still on there.
And what settings did you use?
what settings did you use?
I loved this more “real” video. More focus on the demonstration. Loved the shopping.
So glad, thanks!
Thank you so much for your note! So sweet!
💖👏👍💖👏👍💖👏👍💖
So glad you loved it!
Some of our Dollar Trees already have an aisle with $5 and $10 items. So, the change is taking place.
They are still primarily $1 store, and have added an aisle of $3 and $5 items.
They currently have items marked $1.25 and $1.50. I saw it in person before I read the article stating they were going to start doing it
@@margaretkeenan2527 same in NC & SC
I am so glad you done this comparison. I bought some DT vinyl and had so much trouble with it. I am a beginner and so at first I thought I was doing something wrong. but redone my project with Starcraft and no trouble! again Thanks!
You're welcome!
The dollar tree vinyl is not what I want to use for projects, but if I want a removable quick “throw away “
I may consider it. Thank you for the reviews
Any time!
Have you tried warming the glass first as it helps the stickiness be a bit more tacky so it will stick on. It’s worked for me with DT glitter vinyl
paper studio vinyl is a lot like dollar tree's. paper studio tends to tear while weeding. i have had many issues with cricut vinyl as well. so far siser, starcraft, and oracal are the best i've found.
Thanks for sharing!
Agreed. The paper studio HTV (Iron On) is great though.
Ditto Kim!
I also like oracal best. Cricut is nice but a bit over rated and so expensive for not much product especially when some projects you end up wasting so much vinyl
I admire all of you. I cannot figure out my Cricuit Joy so didn’t see any reason to buy a Cricuit for so much money. Fun to watch what you can make.
Thank you!
Thanks for showing the comparison now would like to see the hobby lobby brand vs Cricut
You're welcome!
Omgoodness making cry Sir. You treasure your Mamaw, I can tell.
I miss mine Soooooo much.
Good to know!
Washi tape setting cuts just fine... made my Christmas decor wit it and I love it
I use the dollar tree vinyl and hand cut my unique designs.
Good luck
simple answer to your last question(s). yes... i LOVED the road trip and comparison theme. MORE PLEASE
Great video. You just saved us a lot of frustration and money. Definitely more videos of this type would be awesome.
Thanks for watching!
I used the Dollar Tree vinyl and was very disappointed! I didn’t think to use the same setting (washi) as you and gave up! Thanks so much for the info! I have a few rolls and i think it will be good for kid’s school projects and putting their names on things in the summer. Thanks! 🔔
Right, it is Dollar Tree Vinyl. However, I love it. I had to play around with the settings to get that perfect cut. The pressure is the key.
What settings did you end up going with ?
@@selesafaye4686 Hi Faye; In the Material Settings, I change it to 70 used Less Pressure and I used the Blue Mat. Hope this helps. I used my Maker Machine.
@@SimplyAnnieB Thank you
Tanner, I love when you visit dollar tree and do some shopping. I think you should do more of these videos!
I used the “Paper” setting on my air 2 machine with dollar tree glitter and it worked perfectly. Now to find a transfer tape that works great with dollar tree vinyl
I've used painters tape and works well
I found some clear contact paper at the dollar store. I haven't tried it yet but it's worth a shot!
@@raynabennett3453 I use that one all the time, works great!
Maybe masking tape? It works for me
i use a previously used piece of transfer tape. If I dont have any, I use 2 drops of soap and rub it on there. Then just rinse it off. Once it dries, I use it. It is a LOT less tacky.
I have a older cricut expression and my knife had a hard time cutting the glitter but my sister loved what l sent her lol
You are so welcome!
You are a good communicator. Who cares about cardboard in center? You get what you pay for! Thank you for your experiment! .
I appreciate that!
You should have gotten the paper studio too to compare all three!!! lol
What setting do you use
what settings do you use ?
I absolutely love your smile 😂 especially when you get super excited! It’s priceless!
Thank you!❤
Im new to vinyl projects and this has been great for practice before I cut.
Oh wow!
That’s a great idea ❤❤❤❤
This happened to me. I changed the pressure setting and worked like a charm.
This was great! I’d love to see more “how to figure it out” aka troubleshooting videos.
It definitely showed me I need to take more deep breaths and calm myself as I problem solve, lol!
Oh wow!
I would think the cheap stuff would be great for stencils or on something you’re going to epoxy over.
Loved the shopping trip and the trial and error!! Super fun super easy to learn from!
I have found if you use the yellow tip blade and less pressure it cuts very well. But it is still a thinner product. I would recommend it for crafts not cups or fabric
Use it for painting stencils as they do at the craft places. So paper back transfer works....
Thanks!
I used washi setting & love it!
Thank you for the comparison video actually just bought some Dollar Tree vinyl the other day cuz I just started with the crafting thing. I used it on Dollar Tree wood plaques and it was good for that. I appreciate all your videos they've been very helpful
So glad!
Great video! I use this vinyl all the time but I will tell you it works really good on the everyday vinyl setting as well!
the black and glitter has worked great
I love Paper Studio brand works a whole lot better then Cricut brand and it’s a lot cheaper
I am going to try it with the washi tape setting to try my project again
Please compare Paper Studio Iron-On. I use it almost exclusively at this point, but would love to know how it compares to Cricut, 123 vinyl, etc. Thank you!
Love going to Dollar Tree & Hobby Lobby With You Tanner!
Keep this kind of video comparison coming. 🤩🤩🤩
I love it. No issues for my projects!
So glad!
I love this style of video from you! So different than so much of what MGL has published in recent months. Thanks for it!
You're welcome!
I totally used the $ Tree vinyl and had to change my settings. It works perfectly fine after that!
What setting did you use?
@@rnguyen2516 I used the premium setting, less pressure and the green mat.
I use a silhouette cameo so different settings than the cricut...
Just used some today. Worked fine.
I just used the silver glitter vinyl from DT and oh boy was it stressfullll, lols. For my sanity I will just pay more for something that works :)
I agree. For small cuts I can not for the life of me find a setting that works
I had the same issues with the dollar tree vinyl👍 Thanks for confirming it wasn't just me 😊 having issues.
I do, however, recommend it for larger font and for projects that are temporary, this way you don't overspend on a project that isn't meant to last long (Example: Changing a name or date on a poster/sign👍)
I love watching your videos too! Thanks for the Cricut hacks, they are greatly appreciated! 😊👍👍
Generally, you get what you pay for. If you want something that lasts, but you want to spend less, wait for sales!
I agree with you.
That exacto knife/blades work great!! Went back and bought another on!!!
Awesome!
