A "Leak" book is a very Good Idea. Then bring in a leak expert engineer to identify current & potential leak sources; & fix all the leaks once & for all.
Luke, there are a number of picture hanging tools that allow one to hang the frame on it and then one can push the tool against the wall and it will put a small dimple into the wall that will be the place to put the nail or hook.
Good job with the picture hanging, Luke. A tip from someone who used to put at least three holes in the wall everytime I hung a frame -- you can adjust the picture height without moving the nail by untwisting the wire in the back to give it as much slack as you need to hang it lower. Good luck with the leaks!
Well at least you found that crappy leak Luke!! As for the picture hanging, you have done more than I have in my cottage and now I have to make amends there. One thing though, I think the last frame would have looked betterer on the other wall.
Old family photos have such charm. I'm glad you celebrate yours. It's good that both Luke and even more so Raymond are calm, almost laid back in the face of disaster or at least troubles. I hope you can get your leak fixed soon. About ten years ago my neighbour, but not me,fortunately had a leaky roof so I know what it's like. But he didn't have a "stately home full of art treasure" to worry about.
Great pictures. Here in the U S we have something called Command strips and hold that are used to hang artwork etc without hammer and nail and can be removed without damage to walls.
I like the large Velcro like ones.... Attach to the thing being hung. Then remove the wall side cover, eyeball location, press, and if it is slightly off, just take it off, and shift it slightly to get it straight on the wall pieces.
Again I think that this picture should be put in the cafe as well. Luke you are doing an excellent job at handling the camera and kneeling the pictures. Way to go You're awesome 💜
Julie, did you get good copies made of those coronation invitations before having them framed? If some water related catastrophe happens and the originals are destroyed, you’ll be glad for the copies. As for placing them n a bathroom, I actually like the idea. Think about it. That room probably has better lighting than most other rooms. They have the tome to see and appreciate the documents. We live in my hubby’s childhood home in California. Back in the 70’s, my in-laws had Corrie ten Boom as a house guest for several months. Then my in-laws bought another home nearby where Corrie lived for the rest of her life. She had become a member of the family by love, not blood. She passed away in 1983. The other home was sold, but my MIL decorated the guest washroom with photos of Corrie. I have kept those photos there all of these years, because I love and admire her. I never got to meet her. Hubby used to play chess with her. I met hubby shortly after her passing, but I had read her book, The Hiding Place, and it was one of the few books that made me cry. Over the years I have added to the photos in the washroom. I have added angel decorations. That will be Corrie’s washroom as long as we live there.
My Mum had several of the books of that lady. I never read them but I once saw her on TV. She said she was on the train to the death camp. They weren't told that but they sort of knew. She was 17 and smartly dressed. The train stopped at a station. It was an unscheduled stop. She pushed the door and it opened so she got off the train and walked smartly to the station exit. A young Nazi soldier was stood there. The outfit she was wearing looked a bit like a nurses dress so she walked past him in a confident manner and went to this house where they hid her. I forget the details but I remember that story she told of her serendipitous escape. How lovely that she became a part of your family.
I love the idea of a “Leak Book”. Love you both… that house is so large I think you have to walk through daily to check for any changes. Wish you the best on your repares.love all the history you both share. I really like the invitations that you have put up. Luke, you make hanging pictures easy.
Sorry about the leak. This is a very interesting video. I really enjoyed watching! Alberta's wedding picture is gorgeous! I like your idea of putting pictures in the loos. Love from Vermont
Hanging Alberta's wedding picture in the loo... I bet alot of wedding photography ended up near the crapper after a few years! Fabulous channel! Greetings from my Disneyland neighborhood here in Southern California!
Love the pictures that weee framed. I think it’s a cool idea to put the pictures in the bathrooms. I admit I always look at how a bathroom is decorated when it’s not mine. Yours is especially wonderful. Sorry about the leaks good thing the guys can run fast!
You may get the protocol police on your trail for displaying documents as highly prestigious as historic royal coronation invitations in your downstairs loo! Equally, Alberta might be happier with her wedding photo in a study or library. I used to be a professional picture framer, and a useful rule of thumb is always to use two picture hooks for any frame over 12ins wide. It is guaranteed to keep the picture perfectly level (barring earthquakes!). I'm surprised the framing shop did not supply you with proper picture hooks as these ensure that the pins (not nails) go into the wall at a slight pointing-down angle ~ a much safer way to secure framed pictures to walls.
Picture hooks can cost almost nothing but make life so much easier. Just a little hook with a hole for an angled nail or pin. There are very few wall hangings in my house that don't use them.
Hi there... 2 things 1... anything royal related is not the best place in a lou. 2 ... your other video tour of the old horse stalls to be converted into exhibition space is a great idea ... however maybe rethink the access to a WC right off the kitchen... not the kind odors you want around food. The floor plan still works if you close wall to wc on kitchen side. Love your stories. Georgia in Canada
I think Alberta’s picture is hidden down stairs. I think the invitations look good in that bathroom, would have been better to move the old picture that was there. I think the colour engraving is nicer even in the black frame so they should replace the other one. I so enjoy these vlogs.
I like the choices of where you hung the pictures. I always try to place hand colored prints away from direct sunlight because I have had them fade over time. Nice work!
WhenI have leaks in my old house (constantly), I use one of those big plastic storage bins, but I place it on a (baking) cooling rack on the floor, so that my oak floors underneath can dry out, too. I set up a fan on low in the room to speed drying. First, of course, move artwork and furniture out of the area until you’re sure the leak is fixed and the area is dry. A leak diary is a good idea.
Those toilets are likely to be ones built for the staff, originally outside, could've even been laundry facilities converted to accommodate staff updated needs.
It is interesting looking at the two invitations how ornate King George's is and how simple Queen Elizabeth's. Agree Julie, I also think those invitations are amazing and glad to see them framed and enjoyed. The leak book would be a cool history archive. And can also be a bit of fun, maybe make a ranking/scale to rate the leaks.
Thanks for putting my cousin Alberta in the out house! When I come to the manor! I get to see her while taking a crap! Just like the Queen! Not a good deal cousins, Hemenway Stanhope and Alberta from America!
If you want to leach more moister from spills and leak invest in a quantity of baking soda and lay on some where the moister has sit. If it is in a carpet or rug cover the sodium bicarbonate with a towel so that people will not spread it all over. Leave it be overnight then vacuum it up and you will find that the moisture has been removed by the suction of the bicarbonate of soda. It will also lift dirt and color.
Hip hip hurray for cheerleaders! You guys are so much fun. I’m glad that you can laugh, even though it seems to be one thing after the other with maintaining such an old though beautiful estate!
Baking soda is a very good tool to absorb moisture. In the days of hand driven lawn mowers in Los Angeles 1960s suburban housing tracts it would remove the odor of petrol that spelt from the tin onto the car carpet. In fact I would later show my parents how you could remove the coloring of coca cola from car upholstery that inevietably the grandkids would spill in granddad's car. I would use the stuff to take up party mishaps of wine and alcohol. I would even use it on spilt liquids on unvarnished floor planking stopping it from warping. Just remember to cover it with toweling so that the grit is not dragged through the house. All you have to do is pour the baking soda onto the area until it dos not draw up more moisture. Then as it dries out you can swee it up and let it dry out for further use or vacuum it up. It helps reduce the bleeding of dyes in rugs that have not been sufficiently washed out before weaving.
In norway we have the tradition to have pictures of the royals on the loo wall, ( outhouses) in the old days they used papers and magazines as loo paper, but they couldnt possibly wipe their behind with Royal portraits, so they pinned them to the wall, so that is how the tradition started.
Well, Luke & Julie - you do have an interesting technique for hanging pictures, but I'm sure your decorator would have a thing or two to say about it. I just can't enumerate best practices in arranging/hanging art on walls (many rules were broken) ...next time, please ask for assistance! BTW - you're both adorable and hilarious! 😘😂
I get the juxtaposition humor. But, I would not be able to hang those precious, exclusive objects in a loo. As an American, perhaps I am too respectful of history, ancestry?
I was thinking that the coat of arms that was gold-framed could go in Luke's or Julie's office. That is where I put all of our family historical certificates.
It's wonderful how much you can find on the Internet. I was very disappointed a few years ago when I found my Great Uncle Frank's First World War medals...a week after they had been sold. He was killed in France in 1917. Personally I would have hung the pictures differently. I would have a dedicated "history wall" where I'd "gallery hang" interesting items, with each item's backstory. I much prefer things "gallery hung" as people will just glance at a single item, unless it is very special, but en masse several ordeinary items get people pausing to look. I suppose, though, that I "gallery hang" because of the amount of items I have to display on the wall; in my sitting room alone there are 32 at the moment, and 52 on the stairs.
If you all are serious about feedback about where to hang the coronation invitations: find another spot that's not near a toilet. Seems rather irreverent to put those in the loo.
Hi, That water can damaged paintings ! Some of that water can contain acids like bleech, chalk or other things from that ceiling. Beside the badly painted hands it can get another problem to the painting. 😅 Maybe store it at a safe place. 🤗
hhmmm... the coat of arms should have been put in between the mirrors as center. Maybe make the bathtub with the framed coat of arms as the "centerline" or "focal point" of the wall. Put a decorative rug on the tub as well
My favorite book series's main character owns a country house in which he hung a Holbein of Margaret More in a loo. Everyone in the fandom finds this absolutely funny and empathizes with the character who was shocked over a painting of major import in a loo. Now that I see your collection of loo art, I understand the main character's position. 😂
A "Leak" book is a very Good Idea.
Then bring in a leak expert engineer to identify current & potential leak sources; & fix all the leaks once & for all.
Hanging them in bathrooms is very fun. My father had a friend that hung his PhD in the bathroom so that way he'd know people would read it LOL
Oh Dear, it's the Thomas crapper causing the leak!! The crapper leak 🤣 I love Luke's attitude.
I bout spewed my coffee at that one!
Good job, handyman Luke! Teamwork at Mapperton is A+. 😊👋🏼🇺🇸
Luke, there are a number of picture hanging tools that allow one to hang the frame on it and then one can push the tool against the wall and it will put a small dimple into the wall that will be the place to put the nail or hook.

I do hope the leaks are easily fixed. Happy the items have been framed and have places to call home!
Well at least you found that crappy leak Luke!! As for the picture hanging, you have done more than I have in my cottage and now I have to make amends there.
One thing though, I think the last frame would have looked betterer on the other wall.

Hopefully you’ll be able to fix the leaks and damage easily.
Oh my, to have such a lovely bath. How wonderful.
Great pictures. Here in the U S we have something called Command strips and hold that are used to hang artwork etc without hammer and nail and can be removed without damage to walls.
My mother's maiden name is Baguhn. So close to your last name!
we do have the same in the UK 😅
Unfortunately, they do not always hold over time.
@@luiginayerino592 and they can damage your walls. I've had them take paint off. I'm in Australia.
I like the large Velcro like ones.... Attach to the thing being hung. Then remove the wall side cover, eyeball location, press, and if it is slightly off, just take it off, and shift it slightly to get it straight on the wall pieces.

Greetings from Sarasota Florida
NO, not the loos! 😫

Like a lot of weddings end up in the crapper.😆
Picture hanging well done. Hope the leak gets fixed quickly. Luke, what happened to your leg? Hope you’re not in pain.
Love the pictures that weee framed. I think it’s a cool idea to put the pictures in the bathrooms. I admit I always look at how a bathroom is decorated when it’s not mine. Yours is especially wonderful. Sorry about the leaks good thing the guys can run fast!
You both are awesome, love love love this day in the life go along....brilliant!!💚💙💚💙💚🌷🌷🌷🌷🌷
It really seems that every pipe should be traced and replaced, with the most important rooms and ceilings protected first.

Love it, I hang pictures the same way my husband hates it!
Not sure about a Coronation being in the loo
I think Alberta’s picture is hidden down stairs. I think the invitations look good in that bathroom, would have been better to move the old picture that was there. I think the colour engraving is nicer even in the black frame so they should replace the other one. I so enjoy these vlogs.
Love his hanging technique!
I hope I'm not being uncharitable when I suggest that perhaps ancient waterworks should be only for display and then there might be fewer leaks.
I like the choices of where you hung the pictures. I always try to place hand colored prints away from direct sunlight because I have had them fade over time. Nice work!
I love the colored Coat of Arms! Beautiful ❤️
Thank Goodness for Raymond.‼️😬
I believe those invitations should be seen by visitors , so where you found them ! It's too important to be in a loo, my humble opinion of course.
WhenI have leaks in my old house (constantly), I use one of those big plastic storage bins, but I place it on a (baking) cooling rack on the floor, so that my oak floors underneath can dry out, too. 6:00 those looks like very reliable plumbers.
Raymond is the leak detective. Also the hung and hanged explanation was interesting 🧐
Please, don't put the invitation on the loo 🙏🏻
It is interesting looking at the two invitations how ornate King George's is and how simple Queen Elizabeth's. Agree Julie, I also think those invitations are amazing and glad to see them framed and enjoyed. The leak book would be a cool history archive. I luv the picture frame on top of one another

I'm not convinced by Luke's picture hanging technique. Hammering a nail into the wall? No no no. You should of got Raymond to do it! 😂
Not sure I would have put the invite in the bathroom. But, to each their own
Fingers crossed the leak is fixed properly. I am not sure the invitations belong in a loo 🤭 but is up to you x
Yes looking at the invitations while sitting would be great.
Strange that in a house that big you don't have a radio system when working on different levels to communicate or just in general across the estate
The gardeners do! As they are often the furthest away!
Hip hip hurray for cheerleaders! You guys are so much fun. I’m glad that you can laugh, even though it seems to be one thing after the other with maintaining such an old though beautiful estate!
I hope you were able to fix the leak.
Why on earth would you put such cool pictures in a bathroom? Odd.
Everybody's gotta GO, so, off to the loo
Leakerton.

Yes, swap! Hi from Australia 🇦🇺
I like the way you hang prints Luke..I do it the same way 🙂
If the wall is plaster, don’t use a hammer and nail, you could bring down half a wall. Use a drill for a pilot hole into the lath, then a screw.
Your Grandma Albertor’s pic not only captured the last Emperor china, It has the last Empress too!!
You are right, Luke. It's "hanged" when it's people and "hung" for everything else. I taught English for 34 years and learned a lot.
Yes,take down the one painting and put up the Coronations ones.
The last Emperor of China, that's an awesome find and family story!
In norway we have the tradition to have pictures of the royals on the loo wall, ( outhouses) in the old days they used papers and magazines as loo paper, but they couldnt possibly wipe their behind with Royal portraits, so they pinned them to the wall, so that is how the tradition started.

I love the “curiosities” in the loo …
17:27 "They told me you was hung." "And they was right!" - from Blazing Saddles
They need a big bucket !
I get the juxtaposition humor. But, I would not be able to hang those precious, exclusive objects in a loo. As an American, perhaps I am too respectful of history, ancestry?
Top of the frame and top of the door opening to line up 😂😆
hanging a painting on a wirror or chain or ribbon will not fall if you hit it by mistake when passing by in a small area
Hahaha….Glad to see I’m not the only one to create Swiss cheese walls!
Coronation papars? Wouldnt they go with the coronation robes/crowns exhibit?
I was thinking that the coat of arms that was gold-framed could go in Luke's or Julie's office. That is where I put all of our family historical certificates.
The “crapper!” 😂😂🤣

That would probably be like the main staircase at Mapperton where lot's of very interesting pictures are hung!
Loos are the best places to hang such things. Visitors find them fascinating!
If you all are serious about feedback about where to hang the coronation invitations: find another spot that's not near a toilet. Seems rather irreverent to put those in the loo.
Yes, it’s gives one something to read! ❤️ 🚽 Nice job guys!
You not only have the last Emperor of China Puyi and his Empress consort Wanrong (Xuantong Empress).
I guess it's bad when your boss meets you in the driveway, first thing.
I think it’s funny that they talk about where to hang the pictures and then when Luke goes to do it, he changes the locations. 😂
Why not put the crest photo in between the two mirrors?
Kudos on episode 50
Hi,
That water can damaged paintings !
Some of that water can contain acids like bleech, chalk or other things from that ceiling.
Beside the badly painted hands it can get another problem to the painting. 😅
Maybe store it at a safe place. 🤗
I haven't heard Thunderbox since I was a child!
I do have to wonder what HM would think of the invite in the loo.
I think those beautiful and historic pictures need to be hung in places other than cloakrooms and loos!
You poor petals, what an endless round of leaks.
Its revenge for calling his hands fish-like. He was like I'll show them!
The other wall would be so much better.
It seems like putting coronation invites in a bathroom is not proper
Did you shut the water off?
Leaks are a nightmare
those pics should be in important public places. Myth Busters showed that fecal matter travelled onto surfaces even when the lids are closed.
Crapper leak!!!! Well said.
hhmmm... the coat of arms should have been put in between the mirrors as center. Maybe make the bathtub with the framed coat of arms as the "centerline" or "focal point" of the wall. Put a decorative rug on the tub as well

OMG why can't everybody hang pictures like you! They make it so complicated and send up looking awful. Good show 👏
That is good right there
You’re putting the American Countess in the toilet!???? Poor Alberta!
