- MEETING AN AMERICAN ARISTOCRAT IN ENGLAND: Find out where the sandwich was invented (Part 1)// Last weekend we had the HUGE honour to visit Julie Montagu also known als Lady Hinchingbrooke (many of you might know her from Ladies of London) and explore stunning Mapperton House & Gardens in Dorset. The sandwich was invented right here by the Earl of Sandwich! We spent the weekend at the beautiful Garden Cottage (stay tuned for the next video) on the estate and didn't want to leave.
Mapperton House & Gardens - 'the Nation's Finest Manor House' is home to the Earl and Countess of Sandwich and now run by Julie and Luke Montagu, Viscountess & Viscount of Hinchingbrooke. This is the place where the sandwich was invented! Julie Montagu is American and married into the British Aristocracy in 2004. She has her own RUclips channel 'Julie Montagu' where she teaches yoga and shares so much more like her love for vintage etc. You should definitely also check out Julie's & Luke's RUclips channel 'Mapperton Live' which gives you an amazing insight into the challenges of running an English country estate.
We can't thank Julie & Luke enough for having taken the time to show us around the house, letting us explore the romantic sunken gardens and for just being amazing people!

We are LOVING this!!!! Thank you for visiting! And can't wait for you to come back again. xx Julie and Luke
I think Mapperton is safe in the care of Julie Montagu. She has totally brought into the estate, its history and the local area, having lived in the UK for twenty years. I love her American enthusiasm and energy, a delightful person.
An American woman has fallen in love with a man and taken on their estate with enthusiasm. She's a treasure.
My dear Kirsten and Joerg. While we spent the last year watching RUclips, Netflix, Amazon prime ... I’ve always found my way back to you. Please, please keep going. Our world absolutely needs your relaxing and sweet content. As a homebody here in Minneapolis MN, I will always appreciate you both and enjoy those journeys you take us on. Much love to you both.
Her enthusiasm for the history and preserving the house is wonderful. They are so lucky to have her.
Joerg - Your camera work was fantastic.
Lovely, and a better host than Julie Montagu you could not find.
I remember Julie from Ladies of London and have always admired her resilience and her wonderful get-up-and-go attitude. Mapperton is truly beautiful and I can't imagine that it would be in better hands. A lovely video, Kirsten and Joerg 💕
I commented a while back to Julie that she should contact you guy’s and she did! Two of my favorite channels together, what a treat!
Oh my word !! Kirsten and Joerg you've excelled yourselves this time ! What a fascinating and interesting video,so much to remember . I love viewing these old houses and do often wonder about the cost of keeping them in order . I always make sure that I have a good look around the kitchens and laundry rooms and imagine cooking in them for all the household and washing all the laundry without any washing machines . A lifetime of hard work for the staff !. That lady is a very nice person too . I don't know how you managed to pull that interview off but well done ,it was very interesting . Looking forward to seeing the gardens next . Bless you both xx
💋Thank you for going to Mapperton! I can’t recommend Julie’s two channels enough! They are great. She also does Yoga for anyone that is interested. I adore her and I am not too far from where Julie is from here in the U.S. It is so true when you said if anyone loves your channel they will love hers. Blessings to you both. ~Love&Light💖Carli
What a pleasant surprise to see two of my favorite channels together! It's surreal to see all of you in the same place, at the same time, so wonderful! I appreciate that Julie gives a lot of recognition to and showcases the employees on staff who keep the house and grounds in working condition.
I so appreciate Julie giving us a tour of her home and being so candid about what it really takes to keep up an estate such as this. Love how genuine she is. What a stunningly beautiful home and tour. Thank you!
Joerg really hitting it outta the park with those fantastic drone shots! Very nice video didn’t expect this collab :)
Perhaps Julie could partner with a museum for the restoration? Y’all could film it!
Thank you all so much for a lovely tour! It was delightful.
A wonderfully interesting video Kirsten and Joerg. Well done! The Viscountess is utterly charming.
Such a beautiful manor house. How special that you ( and your followers) got a personal guided tour. Another lovely day with the two of you. Thank you!
What an awesome video! It’s so nice to see these beautiful houses being looked after by people who genuinely care about England’s beautiful past, I am glad Julie is one of their guardians, very enthusiastic, dedicated and she should be so proud, it’s just gorgeous!! Thanks Julie, Kirsten and Joerg for letting us all take a little peek! Cheers from bluesky country BC, Canada.
I LOVED this video. The historical angle was absolutely amazing as I get excited about any and all British history, but Julie was so enthusiastic, warm, and genuine. I felt as though I was meeting up with an old friend. :) I immediately subscribed to her YT channel and followed on IG. Everything was lovely (and the drone footage was breathtaking), and I know you enjoyed your visit! Delightful! I can't wait to see the next video.
