I thought both of you were younger. Never would have guessed that you were married 20 years with 4 children. And you've managed to keep your sense of humor. Wonderful!
“And you’ve managed to keep your sense of humor” makes it seem like they’re 80 lol
@@brie3679 a sense of humour is valuable from the day the couple meets.
23:29 23:32 23:35 :33
I love that you have four children🎉🎉🎉🎉
I think the eldest two are from a previous relationship of Julie's. She was a single mom and I can imagine she had huge energy to both work and have 2 kids.
I look at the presenters, and think, they are a cuuuute couple! 🌷🌷🌷
Lampshades askew, corner of the carpet folded over...LOVED it! Obviously a well-loved and lived in home.
I thought only I could have noticed the rug. I want to flip the corner of the rug over so badly. 😂 my home is a mess and should tend it first 😂
I particularly love the red blinking light on the phone...lol
I love the chemistry between you two and the fact that you seem so down-to-earth. Best regards to you from a romanian baronesse!
Ooh how wonderful a Romanian baroness, ominously thrum and have been looking at buying a second home in Romania x
@@TheNoviceHomeCook That's a good idea. Romania has so much unspoiled nature and beautiful little villages. As a general rule I would advise you to search a home only in these countys: Cluj, Bistrita, Salaj, Maramures, Sibiu, Alba or Brasov.
In Romania too? How on Earth have you managed to keep your estates after the Russians came through? What is the situation with regards to the current state of Romanian aristocratic society today? I imagine it must be markedly different to Western Europe given the different histories. I would love to hear more on this from you.
@@hugejackedman7423 Manors, lands, everything was taken away from aristocracy, royals included, but after the fall of communism certain laws were passed in parliament allowing families to receive through court order what was rightfully theirs. Some families fled Romania back in the 1940s and never returned but many returned or didn't flee at all. Most of them renovated their manors/castles and some turned them into museums or event locations.
I absolutely love Mapperton, but especially you two; that you both are in charge of it. You are a delightful couple, and completely natural, and honest. There are people who try to be funny, but you two are just NATURALLY funny. Also, very informative in an equally natural, relatable way. And of course the same can be said about Luke's parent's, who are treasures as well. Luke, yes I can imagine how you must've felt contemplating taking on Mapperton and it's many challenges; however, you struck gold with marrying Julie. The ideal partner for you personally, as well as being your co-partner in all things Mapperton. Lots of love to you both. Thanks for your wonderful Mapperton channels. Yes, it's ALL so very exciting❤😊
My thoughts, exactly! Well done, Luke and Julie!
Couldn’t have said it better myself!!
Love you two guys you are extremely inspiring 💕
100% agree. Luke you are a lucky man.
Hear, hear!
Luke, what a thoughtful husband you are! @24:57, you pause the whole thing to give credit to your lovely wife. Well done, you... setting an example to all husbands.
Luke's callout to Julie was so sweet. Interesting how Alberta brought an infusion of money when it was needed and Julie brought an infusion of ideas and energy. A house like this is an enormous responsibility - so easy for it to become a burden - and you two seem the perfect team to meet its unrelenting demands in a fast changing world. Lucky Mapperton!
Luke & Julie are the sweetest couple! I'm an old lady in Arizona who wishes she could have visited England.
How very honest Luke was throughout the questions.
I never comment, but I would like to acknowledge what a lovely couple you are and how beautifully you are managing the Herculean task of running a historic estate with a modern family.
Americans watch Downton Abbey, and all sorts of beautiful Period Dramas and imagine life as it was - even though many of us know how WWI and WWII changed everything from the way The Aristocracy lived to where they lived.
But, as an Anglophile, I would love to see as many historic homes, churches and Abbey’s restored as possible!
Love 💗 you guys!
Most UK churches are maintained. Mapperton church is unusual because it does not have a village or town to help sustain it. The Church of England has 16000 churches and 44 cathedrals, many of which are very old and very large. The church in my town was built around 1486.
And the church in the next town has an amazing set of medieval glass which dates from 1500 to 1517. Mapperton has some medieval glass too. It is quite mind boggling to think of 500 year old glass.
@@Digeroo123 Thank you so much for this information about the Churches ⛪️.🥰
Greatly appreciate that he stopped the ending to thank Julie.
What attracted my spouse and I to the Smithsonian show was that Julie married in and went all in, doing anything to support the history of her new family. And much more I could say but mostly. Just a beautiful couple, lovely history. Thank you for continuing to share. ❤️
Well said! Two beautiful people inside & out.❤
The early tours with Julie, the Earl and the Countess are my favourite!
Mine as well.
So impressed with both of you. Luke for accepting his family responsibility and Julie for joining him. Was this expectation something explained to you Julie, when you got serious about Luke? How are your children feeling about the responsibility being passed onto to them one day?
Good questions!
And as you were a young man and knew you had this responsibility coming, how did that affect who you dated? Was it in the back of your mind that whomever you married had to be up to the future challenge of running the estate?
Great questions. Would love to hear the answers.
Yes, good questions!

I love the difference between American & British.... I adore their interactions. Thank you for posting
Fore me, I am totally subscribed, and locked in. As soon as we can fly to England/UK we will pay y’all a visit.
Love this! I'm not even sure what Virtual Reality is, but sign me up for a headset if I can "walk" around Mapperton! Can you make it a murder-mystery type of interactive game? Like Clue? "The Viscountess Did It! with a Pressure-washer, in the Drawing Room!"
I think Meta-Mapperton is actually a really interesting idea. With the technology right now, it would be limited to "walking" all over the estate, but as the technology develops and becomes more tactically immersive, you could include things like virtual weddings, were people get married virtually. This would be especially welcome for people who have family and friends all over the world--they could all attend, even great-granddad who lives in that small town in the mountains, and could never have attended otherwise. :) VERY neat Luke!
When I was growing up, my aunt was a good friend of an Earl. Tragically his eldest son died fairly young and because of primogeniture the estate was lined up to pass to the grandson. My aunt's friend passed a few years ago and I couldn't help but feel a bit sorry for this young man who had the running of the estate put onto his shoulders at such a young age. He didn't get a chance to enjoy that part of life where he could just be himself before taking on the running of the house. Of course he's lucky to have grown up in a privileged position, but there are significant down sides in that he couldn't just go have a career of his own, the estate is like a boat anchor on him that way
It is so nice for Luke to give credit to Julie for the wonderful job she has done to make this channel so popular--I don’t think it would have been so successful without her great enthusiasm and her happy disposition. You both together are a fabulous team. I love watching your videos and I wish you all the best.
I'm really taken by how down-to-earth, likable and relatable you two are, with grace, dignity, decency, warmth, and humor yo spare. It's funny when one considers how snobby a run of the mill, upper-middle-class person can be.
I think you are both brilliant and complement each other so well. You’ve navigated a daunting reality that is Mapperton with grace, humor and creativity. And I find your marriage refreshing. Two people who have a full and loving life together..and interesting, stimulating and fulfilling lives separately. Cheers to both of you ❤️
We love Julie because she’s authentic & open & kind & funny & vivacious!!!!
You both lift people's spirits. Thank you for opening up your lives on you tube. Congratulations for keeping your estate going and surviving for your next generation.
Thank you for sharing your interviews and stories about your lovely home and it’s history. For this American who loves all things British it has been such a joy watching ya’ll.
You two are the best thing that happened to Mapperton, putting this historical home on the global radar and map through social media. Your different backgrounds blend so well to Mapperton's promotion, evolution, and improvement for all to enjoy. Thanks so much for sharing all this with us online.
Love their honesty. It is important to face the reality on the 21st century.
I love Luke’s humor and fear of what you might ask. 😂
Such precious and lovely humans. I adore you both. Please carry on. So earthy and humble and sweet and humorous!! 😂
Great questions and conversation! I am thankful that there is NO background 🎼 music! 🎵 💙🙏
I just love watching the banter you two have. I have told my husband that if we are fortunate enough to visit the UK we will be visiting your estate. Hopefully we will be lucky and run into the pair of you. 😊
Your husband is a spitting image of the movie actor,Tim Robbins.
Well, I don't care how you do it but keeping Mapperton alive is important. It tickles me that Julie is an American (as I am) and through her and Luke I get to experience this unique connection to Great Britain.
Second comment: the rewilding project is extremely exciting, and something that has been dear to my heart here in the US since the late 1990s, when I launched a national magazine called Wild Garden, which helped people understand how to repopulate and re-landscape their properties with native plants that support wildlife. Kudos to you for this project, and I hope other manor houses in the UK will follow suit!
How nice of Luke to acknowledge Julie's impact. What a great combo of skills, talents and passions. Best wishes for even more plans to succeed and dreams to come to life. Joy to you and yours.
Please just watch and enjoy instead of looking for negative areas. You all must be perfect. This is a wonderful natural family.
You both make me laugh and remind me of my husband and myself. Love the history and reminding each of us that no matter our home size we are all the same.
I love Luke’s idea of connecting with nature. That is exactly what I imagine a county house life to be! Honestly who could imagine any better country lodging!
That's a piece that previously might have been overlooked (amid 20th century promos of tours/cafe etc.) and I'm delighted to hear Luke and the historian of Mapperton wanting to give exposure to nature such prominence in the estate's future. I'm most definitely following the rewilding process. (We're doing a small bit of it on our suburban lot.) Here's hoping this concept stays on trend as long as the manor house tours have done.
Can you ask a version of these questions to your parents as well, please? Would be interesting to hear their responses too.
Luke and Julie, great talk, thank you for showing this and welcoming us into your life.
There IS a sort of poignant undercurrent that the house isn't "lived in the same way it was lived in before." But, glad it's still alive. Thank you for your work!
And the historical context of why Britain in general was doing quite well during the Edwardian Period.
You are both brave and darlings! Thank you for doing this show. I love the music behind the scenes. Good work!
Love this channel so much!! I enjoy every episode. It's so fascinating. I live in America where our heritage is not as "old" as Mapperton. Thanks so much for sharing all the things with us!
Although I can't afford to be on Patrion for you,I do enjoy your channels. By the channels now being on RUclips. Just think of how many people in many countries might come in person to visit the U.K. whereas they wouldn't have thought to go for vacation/holiday.
Love Luke’s love for Julie and recognition for all her dedication and hard work
You two are so blessed to have each other & we all are blessed to watch you two together!🥰
Are you looking forward to passing Mapperton on to your children or do you worry about giving them that same sense of daunting eventual redirection of whatever they had in mind for their lives. OR do any of them stand out as eagerly looking forward to carrying on with their own visions? You both are doing a fabulous job of it and I can't help thinking how your "prior lives" and interests were better preparation for Mapperton than you might have imagined.
Love this interaction of July and Luke, it will be nice to know how was for Luke growing up and meeting other people with historical manor, houses. Both are doing a geeat job.
I think Downton Abbey success put a new slant on aristrcratic homes and management. Every estate owner would hope for a Julian Fellowes to drop a filming contract on their front stoop. The work you two are doing in the PR end is brilliant. You are keeping the dream alive.
Hi! I love these “extras”🤗
Awesome, loved this. You both are amazing , talented human beings. 🌷
I subscribed, of course. I am a Dutch woman and love our European Heritage/history. 👍😍🤩❤It needs to be preserved. As I said I am Dutch, and we have our own wonderful Kingdom, "the Royal Kingdom of The Netherlands"' . You are doing a wonderful job you are doing Julie. This is one of the video clips I will follow till it is over. Getting your drive will be for years to come hopefully. Your videos are entertaining, educating, informative and so so much more. Love you and your courage and determination to go forward and take us, your dedicated followers, along the ride. Thank you so much. 🙏
Lol, you guys crack me up. It’s clear your married with the back & forth, love it! I just stumbled across your vlogs when RUclips recommended it, I’ve been hooked ever since. By doing these vlogs your making yourselves & the estate relatable, a huge thumbs up. Cheers from across the pond in California, Kirk
I love your honesty and transparency! Tell us how you are gradually breaking in the next generation for 25 years from now!
I'm so glad that you're doing what you're doing and that you're letting us journey with you and enjoy mapperton.
A very honest look into the responsibilities of running Mapperton from both of your perspectives. I enjoyed the fire in the background too!
Roflol! I knew as soon as Julie said in the beginning that she was going to reel Luke back in, that it would be funny lol. 😁
I have to say, I was one of those in the beginning that just loved the tours and historical information that Luke's parents provided.
So glad we got another video of the two of you. Julie is super high energy, yes, but you can’t downplay the joy of Luke and his energy. Love seeing you guys making. Ideas and spending time together!
YES, rewilding ! Gorgeous ! Absolutely the way to go and get that nature and wildlife back and have people participate in it and enjoy it. This is so inspiring and important. Love it.
Amazing how alike this couple are, very similar personalities. ❤
Watching you both brings me up to speed on life where you are far better than reading the general news. I enjoy RUclips for just this reason. You've got fantastic stories and I love what you are doing in your home. Being a fellow American with less history than what you have in your family it's just why I travel, to learn about other places and learn about history, but get personal stories. This channel fulfills that interest. :) Thank you for sharing. Great questions! :)
I respect you guys so much. You all work so hard, and you do it for the right reasons.
Excellent episode. Luke has such a nice way to answer questions that actually answers the question, him explaining lively with knowledge.
You can see his keen mind at work in the way he organizes his thoughts in such an eloquent, erudite manner.
Congratulations on making such a success on RUclips. If it weren't for the pandemic and RUclips, we would not have known anything about Mapperton. Because of that, while my family is visiting the Uk in June, we are eager to come to Mapperton and hopefully meet you guys. We will be there on the 9th of June all the way from Australia 🇦🇺. Hope very much to meet you guys in person. Cheers from Aus, and keep up the great work.
I loved this conversation! Thank you!
I so love your channels, I enjoy history of your country home. The re-wilding sounds very exciting too. I hope to treat myself next month with the Mapperton book lol. Here in Michigan we have Back to Nature Farms, there was one I pass on the way to the horse barn. ❤️🇺🇸
Hi Tammy.❤
Wonderful information, keep it coming!!
Well done the pair of you. You have come a long way from only two years ago.

Really interesting conversation. I love earing both of you 💓
Love it! This is exactly the type of video I love to see from RUclips channel creators. Thank you. 🥰
❤watching the two of you interacting!!!
If I may, during the Regency, Georgian and Victorian era, I believe grand estate tours were not so uncommon among the gentry at the very least. Those tours almost always included a general view of the 'open' rooms of the house, but it also frequently included a 'must see' garden and wilderness tour of the visited estate.
(At the very least, I think so- Wasn't there)
You are both doing a brilliant job. 👍👍
Two walking hugs!! Love this.
I've subscribed! Great channel and very informative.
So interesting! Thanks for this content - happy to subscribe!
this was such a sweet show, you both let us into your personal lives and it was really nice, thank you
